Callers hearing echo of themselves when calling me Galaxy S3 CM10 Nightly - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

On the recent nightlies of CM10, people who called me said they were hearing an echo of themselves as they spoke. I reverted back to CM 10 form 08/15/12 and it has gone away. I was using CM 10 nightly from 08/24/12. Has any one else experienced this? I did also turn off the voice suppression but it still continued creating the echo. Do someone have a solution to this?

This is a universal issue. I'm on Verizon and there is lots of talk about this going on.. No fix yet. Seems to affect the builds after the first couple. Some have it some don't. Mine.. Comes and goes.. Annoys the mess out of my wife when I call her. Cyanogen stated back on 8/20 that he had a patch coming, but at this point nothing yet..

Some people are stating that the echo is probably a result of a defective phone. I really don't think so. If I flash cm 10 08/15 there is no echo, any latter rom gives me echo. I think it is some software glitch. someone needs to check what changed from cm 10 08/15 to the next update, which was cm10 08/18.

The 8/31 nightly has a fix. The S3 has an audio canceling chip it uses to detect yourself and cancel out so the echo isn't heard. It is currently not supported but they added support in the 8/31 build which should fix this issue.

I see that on the cm10-log. I can't wait till 08/31!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I'm on stock rooted. It happens once in awhile. It has to do with cdma...not the phone. People on verizon will attest to this.

I can confirm this was fixed in nightly 31.

Problem still present on my tmobile s3 even with factor reset and 8/31 flash stock kernel :/

i too can confirmed this was fixed in 8/31 nightly. also, OP, why didn't you just search the cm10 thread for "echo" instead of starting a new thread about something that's already discussed in detail in the cm10 thread?

I did search for one but did not find one so I decided to just create one. Apologies if I stepped on anybody's toes.

This is not just on the S3. The S2 have this issue too. And not just the European version but all of em. Is the way Samsuck ****s with their phones.

[PATCH] ICS Call echo FIX + [potential] car dock audio fix (Update II - 04/30/12)

FOR AT&T LEAK BASED ROMS ONLY. NOT FOR CM9 or gingerbread!!!
Hi all,
No more call echo
This fix uses the proper T989 audio parameters so noise suppression actually works like it should (car dock should work too in theory). On top of that is Samsung Diamond Voice Engine which really makes calls sound great.
It fixes the issue at the core, within the audio libraries. The audio paramaters and noise cancelling routines now work as they should.
UPDATED
I think I finally fixed this f$cking issue once and for all. For real this time. Try out the newest update I have attached to this post (Diamonds.zip)
This patch is a breed of libraries from the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Blaze. It took me a very long time to put it together. But with a lot of work and hex digging I found the perfect combination.
I don't even think T-Mobile's ROM is going to sound this good
You might still have to turn down your volume a notch if you have a troublesome case, but I am going to make a bold statement and say that this should fix the problem for a 90% portion of you
Also--by its nature--this newest patch should fix the car dock audio problems. I can't test it to confirm. Please let me know if it does.
Report back with results!
Devs you are free to use. Credit is all I ask I spent lots of time on this and not enough time working on a project due tomorrow >_<
To the kind folks that donated to me in the past few days. thank you and I will thank you personally and address my PMs too. Been on and off the grid because of finals.
Cheers
Yaldak

Dear sweet baby jesus yes!! DLing, gunna see what happens! ur the effin man, seriously.
I've made two phone calls yaldak and asked if they here an echo. They both said no..
1st call was w/ case
2nd call was w/o case
Before it was hit and miss for me some ppl would complain if echoing bothers were not..
So far so good brother
Edit 1 : have not had an oppurtunity to test compass.

Did 4 test calls myself. All reported no echo.

I know people keep saying he fixed it, but if he did. I would expect he would have released it. Unless he is doing the community a disservice and trying to squander the fix for him self only for glory or what ever other reasoning.
Also to the OP. What do the display firmware in /etc have to do with the audio echo? and i understand you're trying to fix the compass so is that why the sensors lib is in there?
Based on his new ROM being a beta I think TDJ is testing a fix same as Yaldak.
Hopefully they both work.

The approach used in the Darkside ROM is different. I did a library comparison to verify it.
While the approach should work because it appears to reverse the noise redcution switch (hence why the TDJ says to keep it on), this approach fixes the problem at its core--audio library side. Noise reduction will work exactly as it did in Gingerbread. Some people in that thread are still reporting the call echo issue because the audio paramters are off in all of the Skyrocket-based roms.
A LOT of work and experimenting was done to narrow it down to this one stupid file.

There is no display firmware. That's sensor firmware. This is preliminary work toward fixing the compass, as such it is a work in progress. It's not a beautified patch just yet

I had echo before and using NexusMod.
Made calls to a POTS, VOIP, and another cell phone.
These people had complained about the echo before and report these calls sounded fine.
Thanks and great work.
Hey Yaldak,
I'll test this out on RomChicago tonight, which is based on your base.
As far as the compass goes, I didn't even realize there was an issue with it until now. I'll check the parts bin to see what works.
This is why I use your bases, because you da man.

Darkside's ROM has another approach to this issue....so that is probably why.
It is also likely that--since you had the issue with gingerbread--your phone might be defective. My GB audio was crystal clear.
I'm up to 8 phone calls (2 incoming 6 out) in which the recipients reported no issue.
Is it difficult to apply this? Just asking cuz I never applied a patch. Switching roms, navigating thru root explorer, etc no problem.. but I don't want anyone wasting time explaining it if its something you believe is too complicated to do so. I'd just love to have call echo fixed so people stop telling me about something I already know. Never had call echo on GB. (I have tried the search but with how many posts there are with 'how to' and 'patch' in them its quite difficult and easier to ask)

[Q] can't play voice mail from call log anymore!!

I have Verizon GN rooted with latest CM9
set my google voice mail instead of carrier voice mail to play it from call log. Everything was working very well for couple months. However, few days ago stops working. It will show that I have a new voice mail in the call log, and it will show me from whom, but when i open it and hit play it will kick me out back to call log and wont play it!!!!
I was thinking maybe a bug from CM9!!! Can anyone check that for me on his device and confirm it?
I was searching for that problem before I decided to post this, but all what I find is about Sprint and I know it is something different from this one.
Regards,
Bassil
Its either only me, or no one uses google voice for the voice mail from call log except me
I'm having the same problem all of a sudden. I wonder if it's a new bug introduced in CM9 because it works on my old builds on my Nexus One but doesn't work on the Galaxy Nexus or my HTC One X running CM9.
My Google-fu indicates that it might be a codec error, but I don't see any recent changes that would account for this.
sassafras
It looks like it is crashing trying to load the variablespeed playback lib.
Still don't see any change in the CM9 repos that would cause this problem.

Exactly, this what is happening to me!!! It wasn't like this with the older versions of CM9. I guess either from the new builds or from Verizon disabled it!!!

I don't think it's carrier side. I think it's a bug new since a recent build of CM9
I think it's from the Android build 4.0.4, not from cm9 because I changed from cm9 to another rom with same android 4.0.4 and having same problem.

Which ROM? Are you sure it doesn't use the CM9 codebase?
sassafras
I've been told that Google voice replay from the dialer will fail on any linaro build. I think, but could be wrong, that the latest CM9 and AOKP both are now linaro. I'm using stock 4.0.4 and it works fine.
I experienced the same exact issue, also some m3 files wouldn't play.
I was running latest BlackIce which is cm9 based. Just flashed it Monday, reverted back to my nandroid and everything started working correctly. It must be something with the latest updates made on CM9.

AOKP
I switched to an old build by CM9, and now its working
I was already backed up. So I just restored. It was bulid 5/20
Pretty safe to say it's a CM9 bug, but still no idea what is actually causing it.

[Q] After 10.1-20130226 - Nightly Hercules phone call problems.

Hey Guys,
I've been reading of a forum to this problem I've been having with any Cyannogenmod after 10.1-20130226. There seems to be this problem where when I make or receive a call, I can't hear anything but the other party can hear me talking. I've kept updating to newer and newer versions only to figure out all of them have this problem, and that the last working one is the 10.1-20130226 version. Is there something the devs messed up on?
This is of course for the SGH II T989.
And here's the link with other people with the same problem:
This is on the forum for cyannogen mod. copy and paste it into the forums.
topic/69560-101-20130302-nightly-phone-calling-is-broken/
If anyone knows a solution to this, that will be great, otherwise I have to stick with this version till the newest update fixes that problem.

[Q] Re: [ROM] [AOKP-MR2] [4.3] [NIGHTLIES] [LINARO] [10/2] shawn157's Optimized AOKP

I'm not able to post directly to the developer thread, and I thought that would be the appropriate course of action considering how narrow this problem is, but I guess it isn't? I'm not sure of the etiquette here, so I apologise for being awkward.
I've installed the latest nightly (2013/10/02) for Shawn157's AOKP build because apparently AOKP just isn't going to develop for my phone despite it being really dang new still. Everything is working on par with everyone else except for one odd thing; my phone won't receive or transmit audio during a phone call. I get or make a phone call and there's no sound coming out, and the person on the other end can't hear me either.
I'd be happy to dump/log/paste whatever you need. Thanks in advance for the help!
Usually you should try troubleshooting the issue yourself, if you still can't figure it out, then ask.
Have you tried a different 4.3 ROM?
Have you tried flashing a 4.2.2 ROM?
Have you tried flashing a 4.1.2 touchwiz ROM?
Have you tried returning to stock?
If yes to all and your still experiencing the issue, then its a hardware issue and you'll either have to fix it yourself or send it in for repair.

AOKP team tweeted that there were some issues on the d2 devices (Galaxy S 3) which prevent them from building 4.3 nightlies. Shawn's build is also pulled directly from AOKP source so issues that AOKP team hasn't fixed will still be there. Anyway, I'm still rocking 4.2.2 build until AOKP fixes those issues. When playing around with new ROM, I do not reinstall all apps until I use the new ROM for a little while to see if there are critical issues. Saves me time of restoring all apps.

Known ROMs with working phone mic?

Are there any known 4.3 or 4.4 ROMs with working phone mic?
I've used CM 10.2 Stable (4.3) and Carbon Rom (4.4.2). Both work great, the only issue is that the headset is not usable for calls (low mic output). My solution for now is using the earbud/mic, but I'm curious to know if anyone has made progress on this. Aside from this, the various ROMs are near perfect for my needs.
I'm not very knowledgeable on the details of writing ROMs, but would any type of source code release from LG help developers solve this? Curious to know what the main hurdles are for the devs and what tools they need.
Thanks.
Wish I could tell ya but I don't have a headset with a mic. I'd say give AICP a try since it uses AOKP sources instead of CM. Might give ya a better outcome.

Still no luck on a solid working phone microphone (low volume on other end). And the search continues.
Now that mid March has come around, has anyone had any good luck with a working in call microphone?
I was previously using several 4.4.2 Builds however, the need for a working phone mic was too critical for daily usage.
I'm using a 4.3 build (Slim Bean) which I believe is the only one with a working phone. The build is an unofficial beta and the only real issues are lack of microSD function, FC on Google Drive, and a few freezes here and there. Overall it's usable for my needs but would like to get back onto 4.4.2 granted the phone mic works.
Any suggestions/advice would be great. Thanks!

Here is a manual fix for the in call mic from JustinNL on XDA:
Step 1:
download a "build.prop editor app", I used: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
Step 2:
Modify these 2 specs in the build prop editor
persist.audio.handset.mic.type=digital --> replace digital with analog
persist.audio.dualmic.config=endfire -- replace endfire with false
Since i changed it i haven't had any complaints so far but flashing to new nightly makes it revert again, keep that in mind."
Been working great for myself and others.
