[Q] Alternative widgets? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I been playing with Dualboot with FreeSG3 and CM10. The problem I find with any of these UI is the lack of Sense type widgets and features.
1. I have not a 1 height clock like I used for Sense
2. No Favorite Contact Widget like there is in Sense.
3. No good animated weather like Sense.
4. Ability to flip clock up and out of the way like Sense
5. No easy method to choose a screen as in Sense I press home button and it will than show me the pages and I can select one but with this I have to try to click on a small dot to change screen and than hope I'm selecting the right one as I have no thumbnail view for it.
I miss features of Sense I think the ultimate phone would be the Samsung Galaxy S3 with hybrid Sense/Touchwiz on it.. It has the memory to handle sense while the EVO LTE suffers from lack of RAM in the phone but the great background features of Touchwiz.
So anyone know any widgets or apps that can help emulate some of these features?

is this possible. i really hate it and i don't want to go htc senseless because i love it and so easy to use. any way to remove it?
i agree. is it anyway to get the slide bar like on hd2 that would be cool.

You could just use a different launcher... You'll lose the Sense widgets but other elements of Sense (FB integration in contacts, etc) will remain. I've gotta say I'm not terribly fond of HTC's launcher so far, buncha wasted space on the bottom bar and the layout makes very little sense (why do I need a permanent button to add additional shortcuts to my screens?).
Widget apps like Beatiful Widgets and Pure Calendar can easily replace most of the HTC Widgets... I'll probably go thru all of HTC's Widgets tomorrow to see if there's any I'll miss before trying out a different launcher. My 2 cents...
Give Helix launcher from the market a try. It keeps a sticky row of your most used apps at the bottom. Very handy. It also turn landscape.

[Q] Mixing Samsung Touchwiz and HTC Sense

Hi all!
Is it possible to make a ROM that contains something from Sense and something from Touchwiz?
I really like the way Samsung does with the icon in the menu, by swiping to right and not a long list that goes down, like HTC does. And the four icons Samsung has at the bottom looks nicer and more useful, that HTC's bottombar.
But I like Sense better overall, that's why I'm wondering if it's possible for me to get a rom with Sense but also with the four bottom icons and the swiping to rinht in the menu (I mean where all of the apps are).
PS! I also like how the dropmenu looks like in Samsung and that you can delete and add as many homescreens as you want.
If you really want the side swipping application screen, just install ADW Launcher
Not a usefull answer guy. He want Sense!
I think in future there will be a modified Sense Version like Launcher Pro for now the only way is to develope it
Or try the rom from ephumuris [ROM] Gefrost Galaxy S Style A2SD, Touchwiz, Music mod

But isen't that a ROM just with Touchwiz and not Sense?
Best you can do atm is install the Samsung Galaxy launcher on top of a Sense rom. Then you will have all the good sense apps (mail, browser, gallery).

Yeah but none of the widgets. However there are a lot of good replacements. That is the best solution for this guys problem though.
I have the same "problem" ...
I want the coloured square background behind the icons in appdrawer.
I started mixing up files from touchwiz.apk and rosie.apk, but first try results in no sense available anymore
I will continue mixing until I get a result!
Someone knows which files are for the appdrawer in the apk???

[Q] What is Rosie? Is it just a theme?

Sorry, newb question. What does Rosie mean and why would I want to try different versions? Droid INc, SR 3.3.2, 2.15 radio, stock kernel. I've looked at screenshots of different rosie versions, but it just looks like minor appearance and launcher changes. Isn't that sort of what I get with a new rom anyhow?
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the launcher that appears at the bottom of the screen, above the home/menu/back/search buttons - opinions vary on her extent, but nominally that's who she is.
So then what's the big deal with Rosie if launcher pro makes that so easy?

If you modify Rosie, you can tweak the default Sense launcher to look the way you want, AND stilll have access to the HTC widgets.

I guess I'm still confused, as you can still change the launcher and still have access to htc widgets without modifying rosie. Is it a theme? Is is a full Sense UI replacement? I'm just not grasping it.
From all I've gathered through this community, Rosie is like a theme on steroids - HTC uses it as a key piece of branding across nearly all their devices. In addition to being the main user interface in terms of widgets, buttons, launcher, etc it also includes an number of hooks and tweaks into core Android itself designed to make the experience more friendly for non-geek users (no insult implied!).
There are two main camps when it comes to Rosie - some dislike it since it adds bulk to the simplicity of vanilla Android, while some others love it for it's prettier user experience and all its widgets. I personally am in the former camp and have learned to love AOSP vanilla.

Actually, you can't. If you change the launcher to something like Launcher Pro (which I <3), you can't use the stock HTC Widgets for FriendStream, Mail or more popularly that beautiful 4x2 Weather+Clock. Granted, if you buy Launcher Pro Plus you can get very similar social widgets, and if want that clock Beautiful Widgets is the way to go if you ditch Rosie for LPP.
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the black bar at the bottom of your homescreen. She gives you access to your app drawer, dialer and settings - and if you take her away, she takes the HTC Widgets with her. However, all other HTC Sense UI elements, such as the lockscreen or the black status bar all stay in place.
Rosie is just the launcher. She is in charge of your homescreens.
As previously mentioned, the reason people modify her is they don't want to lose the HTC Widgets for whatever reason (too cheap for LPP + BW?), but they want to have a custom look or replace the settings option with say the browser.
That clear it up?

Absolutely. Thank you! The term Rosie didn't come up on any Android glossaries I found online. You should submit your description...
On a side note, I was a devout BB user for years and I feel like a kid again learning this whole new OS from scratch. I was as deep into BB as many of you are in Android, so just making the change was a huge leap. Some people close to me think I'm obsessed with technology, but for me it's what I find interesting and fun and challenging.

launcher pro and ADW launchers in HTC Wildfire

Hi
I am owning a HTC WIldfire with Froyo (official update)
Recently I heard about launcher pro apk. I have seen the screen shots(googling) and I find it very cool by the looks and setups...
My questions are :
1. How much advanced is launcher pro over HTC Sence launcher ?
2. Does installing launcher pro throws away HTC Sence for the rest of my phones life ???
3. Any disadvantages of launcher pro - like sluggish, slow etc
4. How many home screens does it provide ?
... and all info on launcher pro if you guys can give me.....
1. Far more advanced. They are a lot more customizable than the Stock Sense launcher
2. No, You can always switch back, besides, you will only lose the Sense Launcher. Sense goes far beyond it's launcher, but, you WILL lose the ability to use any Sense based Widget.
3. No, actually, its the opposite. Its lightning quick. Scrolling between homescreens, scrolling the app drawer with the 3D effect - Its instantaneous. So much so that my friend with a Stock Desire said my phone feels smoother.
4. Configurable from 1,3,5,7

While using launcher pro as a home screen launcher, you will not be able to use any sense widgets like Calendar, Weather Clock, etc.
Launcher Pro PLUS (paid) comes with it`s own widgets that replicate sense look and feel (minus the weather widget, that`s another debate.)
You can go back to Sense at anytime and use the sense widgets. Nothing is lost.

The Wildfire Apps and Themes Section should be a good place to start. But, do remember to check out the main Android Themes Section as well.

There is an app called "HD Wallpapers" (by srsdev). It is available in market as a free version.
It has lots and lots of categorised cool wallpapers. But it requires mobile data connection to download the wallpapers. And once u open a wallpaper image, it will be stored as a cache data on memory card. That means u donot need to have internet connection to open the image for the 2nd time , and also for setting it as a wallpaper.
And the best thing is it even has the option to save ur cool wallpapers to sdcard. The saved path will be sdcard/Wallpapers/My Wallpapers/
[And wallpapers will not be specific for wildfire. They are just images. There will be live wallpapers also which are also not specific for wildfire. Don't mind if u know that.]
Can anybody tell wich is better in your opinion, ADW or launcherpro?
Hi All
I installed Launcher Pro... let me tell you it has thrown out all my doubts !!!

note : I tried the gtab simi clock.. but I dont know if I went wrong with its settings..when i add the clock widget to my home screen that place blacks out ! means not showing the clock even though I set the time and other stuffs...

Thats gr8 to know... I will try it out..yeah I know that live wallpaper will not work with Wildfire until you have rooted it. By the way I used the links provided by '3xeno' to get some wallpapers..those are really good looking...
Also I read in that thread that using .png files gives more stylish view of a picture than .jpeg is that true ?
Format by itself doesn't make any difference. For the Clock and Weather Widget, Google for Fancy Widget 1.3.0. It's a replica of the HTC Widget, but was removed from the market for violating HTC's copyrights, but, it can still be found on many sites. (The market has the new version of Fancy Widget, but, it obviously doesn't look like HTC's, but, the Pro version (Paid) has a skin which looks like one)

I tried to set the Sim clock again... what is width of left side in pixels.. default is 120.. but when i use it as 120 itself.. the place where it is suppose to show the time blacks out and it only displays 15 and black colur ends there... where it is supposed to show as 15|28 - which is the current time in 24 hour !
Use 50. 120 will start the display of the clock from the centre of the screen.
Regarding choosing between launcher pro and adw launcher, its actually the users choice.
There is a lot of difference in performance between htc sense and launcher pro. But there is little/no difference between launcher pro and adw launcher. And also it depends whether u have the full versions of them. I don't know much about adw full version. But launcher pro full version (called launcher pro plus or LPP) unlocks the widgets of it (u can see the widget list even from the free version). And LPP has features of scrollable and resizable widgets. That means u can have any widget to be displayed from 1x1 to 4x4. In my opinion , i choose launcher pro. The adw launcher gives me a little delay while opening the app drawer menu. But it is very necessary to rule out htc sense if u r looking for performance. And one more thing, for persons (who can root their phones) interested in increasing the performance, it is better to choose AOSP roms because JIT compiler, a performance optimizer from froyo cannot be enabled in sense roms and also certainly htc sense is absent in AOSP roms. [some of the reasons why i want rooting is --- to rule out the htc sense, enable JIT compiler, tethering options (root-only apps), overclocking, live wallpapers and of course gingerbread custom roms.]
And regarding weather and clock widget, i will make a note of 3 apps, and the lite versions of all these three are available in market presently.
---"Animated Weather" (by Mobilityflow Arts). If u r looking for a widget which looks like htc one, then this is ur option. Not 100% identical to htc, but it almost looks like htc one. I don't know about the features of the lite and full versions of this. Just noting this to tell u that this (even the lite version) looks more similar to the htc one.
---"Beautiful Widgets" (by LevelUp Studio) . A word of caution for this in the market. "THIS LITE VERSION IS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET ONLY FOR A LIMITED PERIOD". So, hurry for this cool widget. A very nice and preferable one. It even has free version of additional "BW Animation Pack". Install the animation pack also. It shows cool 3D weather animations right after u unlock ur screen (and they will be shown everywhere, not only on the homescreen). Here in this u can have animation effects on lite version also. The lite version somewhat attempts to look like htc one, it even has download option for few skins. Sorry i don't know the features of the present full version of this.
---"Fancy Widget" (by Android Does) . This one is also good. The lite version doesn't show animations. The full version unlocks animation and other features. For making it look like htc one, go to Appearance Settings/Widget style -- and set it to flip clock (sorry this option is available in full version only). The animation effects in full version are excellent. Even there are sound effects. Same here, the animation effects are triggered right after u unlock the screen (and they will be shown everywhere, not only on the homescreen). Im using full version of this and i feel like having live wallpapers on stock froyo (specially when it rains). But the animation stops just after u touch the screen after unlock. The full version of this supports downloading skins with which u can increase the way it looks like htc (i expect the full versions of all the three support downloading skins). And merely changing the skin will not make it look like htc, that flip clock option also contributes.
NOTE: I have checked the above 3 widgets with launcher pro only. And finally what i suggest u is to make a google search. The above information might be obsolete. And U can really rediscover a lot of things on searching. So always consider to search for things.

Why is HTC Sense 3.0 better than GO Launcher?

I've got a rooted and deodexed Inc2 running Virtuous Unitity 2.39. Ihave the HTC Sense 3.0 it comes with as well as GO Launcher...and have Home Switcher App to change from one to the other.
It seems to me that having the 5 button selection bar on the bottom (that can be swiped and added to unlimited times) is so much more efficient use of space and provides better choice that it removes any rationale to have anything like HTC Sense with it's standard three choices (and only two which are really used much).
What am I missing? Why can't others have the great lower selection choices of GO Launcher (is it correct calling this the Rosie bar?)? What does the HTC Sense give me that is more functional and useable?
The VU2.3.9 runs fine and was a clean and easy install.
If you change the launcher from Sense to something else, don't you lose the other Sense add-ons like the Weather Widget, Lock Screen and Themes?
You do lose the sense Widgets but like go and launcher pro they have built in Widgets. The lockscreen is an additional apk. Themes will stick as far as status bar goes. Also launcher pro, adw, and go launcher have downloadable themes.

The only reason I use Sense 3.0 is for the gadgets and the purdy interface, I would have switch to something else like the gingervanilla, other AOSP or RMK debloated stock rom if I were to use Go launcher.
You do lose some Sense widgets, but the lockout screen stays tied to Sense. For example, I have the weather on the lockout screen, but even when I switch to GO, the lockout screen after has the fancy weather animation.
I get a "sense" that there is not really a reason to deal with the HTC Sense launcher other than looks, but if I am wrong, let me know where.
I do know that I love having the 5 button rosie which I can spin to more 5 button rosies at the bottom. Much better use of screen real estate.
Sense is nice and its all preference

I didn't like the sense-like Widgets. They didn't have the same feel as the real thing. But I do still prefer LP to anything else including Sense (most of the time)

I think that is a loaded question. My thinking is Sense is for people that like Sense and AOSP roms are for people that don't care for it. I'm just trying to make things simple.
IMO, sense feels more professional, while anything else is for enthusiasts. And the Widgets in lpp are cool and all, but really they are a joke compared to the sense Widgets. And the intergration is nice too, something aosp hasn't done yet.

I actually don't care for the Sense widgets or the Rosie launcher at all. I use the Pure Messenger widget from the Market, and while it's not as pretty as a Sense widget, it combines e-mail, text/sms messages, phone calls, facebook and twitter into a single messaging widget as opposed to Sense's separate widgets for each.
As for the launcher, I just can't justify dedicating the whole bottom of the screen to 2 buttons - the app drawer and the phone button. The customize button is stupid, once you have the phone set up the way you like, that button is largely useless.
Of course, these are just my opinions, but to me, Sense is far from superior/more professional than anything else.
The Clock with weather is the main reason most stick to Sense, it has a cleaned look/feel that add to the homescreen. I personally can't do AOSP I miss the weather clock from sense until I switch back, I love unlocking my phone to a new animation

Fancy widget pro is better than the sense clock, you can get the senseclock, plus tons of different themed clocks, that is what i use. I like the sense photo album widget, which is pretty much the only widget that doesn't have a replacement app. I can't say i enjoy sense when very much and i usually run an AOSP rom (omfgb currently) but have a couple nice sense rom backups on my phone for when I'm itching to use sense.
