Cpu tweaks - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

What is the best app out there for tweaking cpu and stuff? Tegrak, extweaks, setcpu or what?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

I've used antutu CPU master in the past but nowadays the ROMs I use have that function built in so there's no need for a 3rd party app. Anyway, I liked antutu bcuz u can tweak the scheduler as well as the CPU and governor.

Extweaks is pretty good. No-frills gets the basic job done.
Tappin' Typin'

Well. Depending on what ROM I'm running. I use the following
SetCPU
Voltage Control
Pimp my CPU
Tegrak Ultimate
ExTweaks
Out of all of them. ExTweaks has the most options but it is kernel specific. For just undervolting and adjusting the clock speed and governor and such I personally use SetCPU if the kernel supports undervolting and if it doesn't I use Tegrak Ultimate.

I can't get setcpu to work on stock. Causes my phone to reboot as soon as it goes to sleep. I overclock while in sleep mode but nothing crazy.

Tegrak Ultimate gets my vote.

I've used tegrak, setcpu, and voltage control. I like the voltage control interface better.

Tegrak!!!! Lol

I use no frills

Cm7 overclocking???

Is there a kernel I can flash that will allow me to overclock past 1113 for cm7? I'm not worried about battery,HDMI or wimax. Thanks in advance.
Sent from my home phone.
Also do I use the set CPU app or the one built into cm7?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I am using SavagedZen (first link), and can overclock to 1190, which is about the highest I have seen for overclocking, the other kernel that is fairly popular for CM7 is Tiamat (second link) and I believe that they support overclocking also (not sure how much though).
If you are using a smartass governor, you will want to use the built in overclocking feature of CM7, but you will probably need SetCPU and profiles for the other governors

SetCPU Issues

I'm having problems with the so called "sleep of death".
I make all my profiles and leave the defaults for conservative. Minimum is set to 200mhz and max for screen off is 600.
It seems like no matter what I set the clocks to my phone never wakes up from sleep. I have to pull the battery to turn it back on.
Running SFR1.1.1.

Edit
Is it the screen off profile?
If you're using the included kernel for SRF 1.1.1 don't use a screen off profile, set it to conservative, and minimum cpu at 200mhz. It should be fine with those settings.
Its on the first page of the SRF thread.

Switch to paid version of Voltage Control. It's optimized for us now.
Having issues with setcpu freezing up my phone even with no profiles.
If voltage control is optimized for epics I may buy it. Underclocking really boosts battery life.

All profiles were set to conservative, yes.

What was your lowest freq set to? Some phones don't like 200 at all
Sent from my armed and operational battle station.
Wasn't Conservative deemed buggy for the Epic? And ondemand was the better option?
The new twilight kernel, which is included in SRF 1.1.1 is fine with conservative.
There is a free version of voltage control too. Uninstall set cpu and try that first and see how that works for you... if that doesn't help, maybe you should flash a different kernel.

Yup. I believe this is posted a few times on the ACS thread. Go with Genocide or Vision. Now on demand will drop below 200 even if its set at your minimum but may very well still work.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thbought there were also problems by using profiles at all.
Have you tried getting rid of the profiles? (After backing them up, of course)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I use the Vision kernel with SetCPU to ondemand with NO issues at all I had profiles enabled at one point but it seemed redundant because I had it set to ondemand. If you have it set to anything other than ondemand then I can see using profiles.

[Q] What is the best Governor and I/O scheduler for Voltage Control?

I did do some searching on Google and didn't come up with much specifically for the Epic.
But what I wondered is, what is the best Governor and I/O scheduler for the following conditions:
1. Performance
2. Battery Life
Well if you want performance and battery life you should OC but run it conservative, I use the sio I/O scheduler I have tried them all and like this the best.

Besides voltage control, is there an I/O scheduler apps on the market.

I think no frills CPU control works
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
To my knowledge, apps that allow changing of io schedulers, are only doing so for the sdcard.
This applies at minimum to No-frills, as I've looked at it's open source code.
You would want to use an init.d script (or similar) to set them for all partitions (or the ones you want that scheduler to run on anyways).
If anyone knows of a specific app that will change more than just the sdcard's scheduler, please let us all know.
=]
Well I wasn't thinking I could have OC and battery life, so I figured it was more one or the other.

CPU apps

I'm having trouble finding a CPU app that works perfectly with this phone. I've tried setcpu, CPU master, system tuner, and nstools. What's everyone using to oc this thing?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Depends on which rom your running but in general...you should use none. Most roms already uv and oc and if u use an app it'll butt heads.

My issue is that it seems like my phone is skipping steps all over the place. I'm using cpuspy and the usage jumps between Max/min clocks. I'm kinda not digging that. Its the same with every rom i flash.

That's not an issue with your cpu app. It has to do with your governor (the thing that controls how your CPU scales). Most ROMs come with ondemand by default which pretty much does exactly that, which is jump from min to max as needed. If you want something that scales more, you should look at conservative (for better battery life) or lagfree/interactive (for better performance). Lagfree/interactive are only available on select kernels though (whereas conservative is almost universally available). Streamline definitely has them and I think synergy does too.
Also CPU apps don't butt heads with the ROM/kernel default settings, it just overrides the default settings.
Yea I figured that but this is the first phone I've had where on demand performs that way. I've had a nexus s, epic 4g, evo, and a g2 and they all scaled across the steps ondemand. Ondemand on this phone works like the min/max governor. But your right conservative scales across the steps well. Just a bit choppier. About to install nstools and mess with the threshholds and whatnot.

Gpu overclock

Hello
I'm currently using a note2core asylum kernel which supports both cpu and gpu overclocking. My question is, how do I go about overclocking the gpu? Any help will be appreciated.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Don't need that overclock note 2 is an excellent phone more than a phone...my oppinion
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I know. Its all for.research purposes anyway
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure if note2core supports stweak but that's the app you need to over clock. There are other but I prefer this one. It will give you a maximum slide to 1800mhz and also tons of other features such as adjusting charging amp, under volting including for the gpu as well. There's not much to know about over clocking as its pretty straight forward but you can change the xpu governor and the number of cores you want activated and how you want them to activate based on your usage. Under volting will help with both temperature and battery life although I find the changes almost insignificant, but you should try it out. If you want to undervolt start with around - 25mv.

You are talking about cpu not gpu
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Okay it's not that different. Just over clock it and undervolt at the same time to - 25mv and then download an app called stabilitytest from play store. Run it for 10minutes and see if you get any error. If not then further lower the voltage to - 50mv. But usually - 25 is good. I noticed that anything higher clocks peed than 5xxmhz starts causing error and graphic glitches.

Tried it. Note2core not supported
