just download and extract the zip file then using some kinda root explorer put the 65DisableKeyBacklight file into system/etc/init.d folder and change permissions to the same as the other files in init.d then reboot
I've used that when I was on Oxygen Rom. Lol

Permissions
Thx for posting this.
Since this is not an app, how do I change its permissions? Do I really have to?
I put the file where it needs to be, and wait for response before i reboot.
I am rooted and all that. Also, I run Nick's phone based on oxigen ROM, have terminal emulator installed (if there is a way to do it in terminal it would be best)
Thanks for (hopefully) quick response
changing permissions is easy using root explorer or simular, extract the zip file and then put the 65disablebacklight file in the init.d folder, then just press and hold on the file and a menu will pop up and choose permissions and change them like posted above then reboot

Great, worked with free - root browser lite. Thank you
Edit: works as is on Paranoid Android 2.54 JB (4.1.2), don't even need to set permissions
Thanks OP!
Well, it works until you change the screen brightness then they light back up again.
I've checked the event/trigger file and can't see anything which would trigger this to capture/write 0 over...any thoughts?

i never used it because of battery life, i just think the lights r pointless and having a pvt1 device known for overheating then having the lights off has to reduce some heat, not much i know, but has to help because all the desire's hardware is at the bottom and when charging the bottom heats up a lot. so it might of helped, might not, who knows. my desire got fried in the end anyway so didnt help me much lol

Doubt anyone has done the direct comparison measurements lol
Improvement will be minimal. The backlights use barely anything compared to the screen etc.
I use the mod because the lights are just unnecessary. They're physical buttons so I can feel where they are

Yea, i completely agree with the fact that they are unnecessary. I use 4+ roms with the navbar always on, so i never even use the hardware keys, plus my case covers them up anyways. I'll try this out when i have some time, thanks.

It's great that we have found a way to wake the phone using different buttons but i really still would like trackpad to wake the phone. It does work in amskgh's cyanogen mod port. Is there a way of finding out how or what exactly allows it and porting it over to any rom?
There is a specific file related to that, it's mentioned somewhere here, maybe if you compare it to cyanogen's one..
For some reason, TrackballWake isn't available as a standalone mod. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645481

As I said, it is for CM. (you don't need it as it is integrated in CM ROM already). On other ROMs you will probably end with endless boot. Needs work.

Ahh, endless boot. Maybe next time it's better for me to wait for a reply, I can confirm that it ends with an endless boot if you have a Desire
Just a thought, the trackpad is used to take a picture when pressed, if you kind find the key reference in the camera app, can that then be translated back to be used to wake the phone. Use the reference in the same bravo-keypad.kl file?
The trackpad sends BUTTON_MOUSE form the kernel, maybe that helps.
Then guess add a line to the bravo-keypad.ll file with that and the correct number, wonder if it the same as the N1.

I'd love to test this but using cyanogen already. Maybe someone else can test?
Tried editing the bravo=keypad.kl with a few different numbers and BUTTON_MOUSE, but no joy as yet.

Nope, didn't work. With that setup it even ignores power button for both sleep and wake...
I don't think we can achieve this in bravo-keypad.kl...
Is the cyanogen rom so different that we can't compare and find out whhat makes it work? I don't think it is the bravo keypad file in that.
Yep, framework is entirely different on CM....
Want to get SGS3 touch tones, water unlock and lock sounds, and make the menu and back buttons have a water like effect like the SGS3??
Well you came to the right place, here I am going to teach you how to get those with a simple tut, read on:
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if your phone get bricked, bootlooped, unable to start etc. You take the risk to provide this modifications to your phone. Remember that you are messing with the system root partition, one small mistake might get you into serious trouble, sometimes unfix-a-ble. 99.99% success rate so proceed at your own risk. Remember to do a nandroid backup through CWM or backup the sound files if you do not want the sounds anymore, avoid losing your data if you made a mistake or find the water sounds too annoying .
:: REQUIREMENTS ::
a rooted Galaxy W
Solid Explorer, Root Explorer, ES File Manager or any that can have access to the system files
a computer to download the sound files
patience:angel:
:: LET"S GET STARTED ::
Download the files provided below and transfer them to the root of your SD card
Open up your file explorer(in this case Solid Explorer for me)
Click "Jump", "Device", "System root"
Scroll down untill you see the system folder
Select the folder and then locate the media folder inside and later select it
Select "audio" then "ui"
Backup the sound files in your system by COPYING "Lock.ogg","S_HW_Touch.ogg","TW_Touch.ogg","TW_Unlock_Glass.ogg" into your SD Card and then deleting them accordingly
Locate where you put the downloaded sounds and then copy and paste them into the same place which is system/media/audio/ui
Exit Solid Explorer and do a REBOOT(recommended)
Enjoy the sound of the SGS3
:: DOWNLOADS ::
Lock.ogg: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?aue7ouj4wsjiixh
S_HW_Touch.ogg: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bj9me3e8ygzqdhi
TW_Touch.ogg: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?3fji29354cd4n2z
Update:
Special thanks to @yihao96 for finding a workaround for the sounds to be possible in cm9:
For cm9 user,
Download Lock.ogg and put in /system/media/audio/ui to replace the lock screen sound.
For unlock screen sound, rename Lock.ogg to Unlock.ogg and replace it in the same folder.
Download S_HW_Touch.ogg and rename it to Effect_Tick.ogg then replace the Effect_Tick.ogg in the same folder.

Hello,
thanks you very much but
1.TW_Unlock_G"r"ass.ogg must be rename to TW_Unlock_G"l"ass
2.DL for TW_Touch.ogg ist the same file as S_HW_Touch.ogg (fix it)
3. The first both files are the same as the both TW files.Maybe is that right
Thanks.
Best regards

Edit:
What are the both files
Lock.ogg and TW_Unlock_Glass.ogg for.
After replace all 4 files there is the difference only when i touch the screen ....
I use Stock Lock screen no Go locker or something else is it just cause that?
well firstly i thank you for telling me about renaming the 'r' to 'l' my mistake for it.will also fix the links. the lock .ogg file is for the lock sound when you lock the phone and the tw glass .ogg is for the water like effect sound. if you dont want it, just put back the original sound clip that you backup into the location again. is it working for you?

sorry my friend. but ics has a different sound layout as in gb touchwiz. i'm not that familiar with the system layout for cm9 so i guess none of those sounds work for it. however, there is one which is the Lock.ogg sound which MAY be able to changed as cm9 has that sound, so i will say if u are taking a risk against it, always make sure u have a backup either the sounds or a nandroid. hope this helps and i wish someone would prove me wrong on this.
here's what u gonna do:
1. download that Lock.ogg file and transfer it to your phone.
2. have a backup of the stock "Lock.ogg" in cm9 or have a nandroid backup ready just in case.
3. replace the downloaded "Lock.ogg" in the system/media/ui place and reboot.
hoping it would work to prove me wrong.remeber to do a backup(i may sound a lil pesky here because of me keep on urging you to do a backup but believe me its for the best for you, though ur phone wont get bricked for changing sound files.

I have just rooted my "new" wildfire s with cm-7-20120717-UNOFFICIAL-marvel.zip, everything works fine except gps with tracking apps (I use Sport Traker). When Gps and Sport Tracker works together the phone reboot (I have no idea when and why). I have already searched on internet and in this forum but the only track about this problem is that one:
LapakCZ said:
Hello, I use this ROM for some time as daily use. I found little problem, but I'm not sure, if it's rom-related, so I don't want to post it as bug yet. Reason why I write is maybe to find someone with same problem, so we can maybe compare apps we use etc. and find where to look now. Also any other ideas are apreciated of course.
So the thing is, that aprox. once in two or three days, phone just restart itself when I'm carying it in my pocket and don't actively use it. It happens especialy when I have app sports-tracker running (app which records GPS track etc.), but not everytime (I guess something like 1 of 4 times). It happens when phone is in my pocket, so I can't tell exactly whats happening in there, I just find phone restarted and questioning for pin (with all previously running apps closed, so I'm pretty sure, that it really restart itself).
But few times, it also happens without any background app usage. With running sports-tracker it's just more often, but it's not a rule.
It's quite hard to lagcat it or anything, because I can't find a way, how to call this error on purpose. Also, only pattern I see there is, that it's more likely to happen with sports-tracker running, but as I said, It's just more likely, definitely not a rule.
I would apriciate any ideas, at least where to look next, or what to try, to find out more, about this...

Make sure that your file explorer is setting the /system folder as writable. Even if you have access to root folder of your phone, the /system folder is usually read only. Goes without saying you need root access to your device.

This post intrigued me so I tried it myself... I wanted to change the obnoxious "boop" to the tick from an aosp JB ROM and I found that All 3 of these files must be changed or else you'll still get that dang "boop":
/system/media/audio/ui/Effect_Tick.ogg (Actually, I really don't think this is necessary because I accidentally deleted this file entirely without replacement and have still achieved the same results, but if it makes you feel comfortable...)
PLUS
/system/media/audio/ui/S_HW_Touch.ogg (This is the sound for the "back" and "menu" keys on the bottom of the phone)
AND ALSO
/system/media/audio/ui/TW_Touch.ogg (This is the MAIN file that changes the sound on every touch made on the touchscreen)
Hope this helps!
And oh yeah... DEFINITELY make sure you're using a root-capable file explorer with "/System/" mounted as RW and make sure permissions are set to "rw-r-r" when you're done. And reboot for new sounds to take effect.

I'm sure the keyboard has one too. So there may be a ton of files lol. I always disable keytones and what not as soon as I touch an electronic device. They drive me nuts. It'd be a fun prank to replace the bloop with the camera click tho

I was tinkering around in the sounds and found out that this works really easy.
Unfortunately the effects are not immediately noticible, it requires a reboot to have the system sounds replaced.
Also another big thing is that if you want to keep your phones original sounds just rename the file TW_Touch.ogg.off or .Bak all you need to do is add something to the end that makes the file null by the phone and it can always be changed back to reinstate the stock sound

Hi,
Just a little trick for those who want the "capacitive" buttons always on (maybe not very battery friendly but...) Remember someone asked this a few weeks ago somewhere...
Obviously you need root and init.d support... You can also edit directly the brightness file in /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness but the modification will not survive after a reboot so you need to use an init.d script to load the modified value at each boot.
Put the init.d script below in /system/etc/init.d set the permissions to rwxrwxrwx, reboot, done
Here's the script: http://www.multiupload.nl/SMQWQQVBTJ
If you want to return back to stock: rename the init.d script with the .back extension or delete it.
If you want to set the "capacitive" buttons always off you need to edit the value, open the init.d script with notepad++ (on PC) or with a file explorer directly on your phone and set the value to "0" instead of "255", save, reboot, done.
Hoping that it will be useful,
Won't be using but thanks anyways, one question though, when do the HTC one buttons come on and off normally? They seem to have no specific interval

Hi,
No worries , it works with the ambiant light so with the sensor (light->off / night->on), even if the auto brightness is on or off the capacitive buttons vary in brightness so this part is independant...
After that I'm not a dev, the only solution I found is to modifie the value by the user in one file. Maybe it's set in the framework, or kernel? i don't realy know. The auto brightness values can be changed with a modified framework-res.apk, maybe it's the same thing for the capacitive buttons . In any case I have not the knowledge and skills for this part about the "automatic" dimming...
Capacitive button in Play works well and less cumbersome. Am using it with Pie. Automatic dimming would be cool though Thanks for looking into this.

Hi,
Sorry but I don't know what you mean... or you mean a kind of greater "light graduation", not on or off like stock, at least it looks like this for me (for example some values like 0 / 100 / 200 / 255), depending of the ambient light?
Like I said, for this I have not the knowledge, maybe a dev can take a look . In any case I don't think you will see a big difference between 100 and 255 for example...
And in the path /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/ there is nothing related to the graduation, it's in the framework stuff I think...

This app now officially supports the HTC One in the latest beta version. I'm the developer of the app and I'd love to hear feedback from HTC One owners to know if it really works (since I don't have a device of my own to test on). See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402153. Thanks!

Thanks I've just tested it. It has 3 settings right? Seems to be working well. It would be cool though to have an auto brightness feature.

Yep, it has 3 settings. Thanks for the idea about auto-brightness. You are definitely not the first person to pose that idea!
