SD card is not recognized in CWM recovery mode? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So, I have a 64gb SanDisk SD card formatted in exFAT format.
When I boot into recovery mode in CWM, it does not show an external SD card.
I even went as far as trying to manually mount the SD card... but when I tried, it said that the SD card was not mountable.
Is there any way to fix this... to make it be recognized in CWM recovery mode?

Yup! exFAT was the culprit!
I formatted to fat32 and now CWM recovery can mount the SD card.
FYI, if it helps anyone else that comes across this same issue... it took me a while to find a good program to format my card...
I found one that someone created that worked like a charm!

The simple answer is Yes . Install PhilZ Touch 4 Recovery 4.88.5. All credit goes to PhilZ and all CWM folks :good:
PhilZ Touch 4 Recovery 4.88.5 based on CWM 6.0.2.9 will support both ext4 and exFAT filesystem under recovery mode.

Restore SD card after partition

Hi, I format my sd card(his original size 8GB) and made a partition through cwm (1024MB).
Now I need this sd card for another use...
How I restore it to original size?
Thanks.
format
Insert the card into your laptop and then boot a Windows CD-DVD and then format, I have done so.

Can you use another SD in your phone? If not, probably you have a USB-brick. Take a look in the forum for how to resolve it.
I tried.Nope.
I'll read this:[USB-BRICK] All you need to know about USB-Bricks
Does this manual work with HD2 device?

Thanks.
Can't you just partition/format it using CWM? I use Amon Ra so I'm not sure about CWM. In Amon Ra, I can select a partition size of 0 for the ext partition and Amon Ra automatically partitions/formats the entire card to FAT32.

Only 5.8.4.5 supports extSD so flash one of these recoveries...
I forgot to mention the card needs to be FAT32 not exFAT

TWRP also supports the external SD card.

CWM instead of TWRP

I have a 64GB sdcard that TWRP won't recognize. What is the easiest way to transition to CWM?
Same here. ..I was wondering the same thing

Just format the card to Fat32. I used a program called fat32format. Took 2 minutes and was very easy. My card is still super fast and I havent had any issues. I used CWM on my evo, but TWRP is now my preferred recovery.

I am still curious why there is no CWM thread for the sprint note II? anyone know why?

I think this will delete all of your data on your card if you reformat to fat32. My 64gb sd card was already formatted to fat32 and I changed it to exfat because I thought it is supposed to be better for 64gb cards. So I copied all 48gb of info on my computer, formatted to exfat then copied my data back on my card. This took almost 3 hours to transfer all of the data back to my card. It was a slooooow process. Now I have TWRP recovery and now I find out that you cant even flash roms from your extsdcard! So if I reformat back to fat32, will it delete everything, and will I have to go through that slow process again?

CWM + My EXT SD CARD = No Fun

Well I have a new version of CWM Mod, and apparently when you format the sd-card, it no longer formats the inner sd card but your external sd card. I was really pissed as I lost all my data I had saved, but it also managed to screw up my sd card. Neither of my computers recognize my SD Card and I have no idea how I can go about restoring it. My phone can detect the sd card but it will say its corrupt randomly. So I'm guessing CWM formatted the card in a really screwed up way. Any suggestions brahs?
I'll even try to mount the sd card on CWM but it wont be able to mount it. It's a shame to waste a 32 gig sd card like this
Have you tried to format through the phone storage? Menu/settings/storage/format

Only gives me the option to mount or unmount the SD card
How old is the SD card? This phone is know for eating up the 32 GB cards. I had one for less than 3 weeks and it did the same. I use trwp but there is a thread about cards and our misfortunes with the 32 GB.

Make sure you card is not in exfat. CWM will not read cards in exfat, I had the same problem. If it is you are going to need to format it to fat 32. Most 32gigs sd cards and higher come in exfat now. You are most likey going to have to do it on the computer also it cant be done from CWM.

Yes but my computer won't even detect the SD Card. It was fine and dandy up until yesterday when I hit format on CWM on the SD Card thinking I was formatting the internal storage (since it's labelled /sdcard) but it formatted the actual SD. Windows won't detect my Micro SD and neither will my Mac. However if I put the SD card into my phone and connect via USB, it shows up.

You pressed format /sdcard, and it formatted your extsd? That's a pretty serious bug, so thanks for the heads up. What version of CWM are you running?
Op. I did the same thing a long time ago. I have gotten into the habbit of removing the sd card when I am formatting with a custom recovery. I also back up the sd to my pc and reformat the sd when changing roms. A bit off topic but I also wipe system before flashing a new rom. So far I have avoided many of the issues mentioned day after day. Maybe I am lucky but my wierd habits have been successful so far.

Did you manage to fix the problem though? Not to be rude but I'm looking for solutions towards this specific situation, not advice on what to do next time :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

5.8 something. It's weird because it allows for both internal and external SD use. When you backup the first open is to save to external then its internal. First version of CWM i've ever used with such an option.
For anyone wondering about a solution, I used an android 2.3 device which actually has a format option for the SD card and now my computers recognize it again. Life is good

I format my SD card to NTFS, after that I need to install a new ROM from my SD card, however when I went into the Recovery, it said that 'Can't mount sdcard', how can solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

try another sd or reflash recovery .
It must be FAT32 it should do the job, ROM installing doesn't require NTFS, my card is FAT32 and i'm flashing into any ROM i want, i admit that it took me days to figure everything out for sucessfully booting ROM flashing.
