Only 5.8.4.5 supports extSD so flash one of these recoveries...
I forgot to mention the card needs to be FAT32 not exFAT

TWRP also supports the external SD card.

When can we expect to see a working CWM kernel that doesn't require an SD Card to to backup, install zips and usb mounting? Some kernels have some of these features but lack others. Don't really see the point in buying an sd card since this phone has 16gb alread.
Which CWM version are you using?
The latest 5.0.2.7
I am using Stock pulled kernel with CWM and i am able to backup to internal usb storage as i dont have a sdcard. What rom/kernel you using?

CWM functions just fine the way it is. simply put it is safer to use external storage for backups. (that would be the point in buying an sd card even though the phone has 16gb already).
you can flash .zips from internal i do it all the time.
ok for some reason all the roms i put on my external sd card isnt showing when i go into cwm but i take out my sd card and put it in my computer the roms are there. How do i fix this?
Just put any ROM your going to flash on your INTERNAL SD and all should be well

is my phone not reading my SD CARD?
In cwm, go to mounts and mount external SD card.

When you go to "install from sd card" are you seeing two options(should be first and last) for install from card or install from phone storage? I ask because there are two different CWMs out there.
What he means is that the new versions of cw would not support External SD even when u try to mount then.
For flashing Rom I recommend internal SD if that's what you are trying to do.
CW Touch 5.8.4.9. No ExSd
Last time just to see the difference I flash back to 5.8.4.6 and it those show both sd with out the need to mount then.
Hope this help

So, I have a 64gb SanDisk SD card formatted in exFAT format.
When I boot into recovery mode in CWM, it does not show an external SD card.
I even went as far as trying to manually mount the SD card... but when I tried, it said that the SD card was not mountable.
Is there any way to fix this... to make it be recognized in CWM recovery mode?
Format card to fat32. Don't think cwm can read exfat

Yup! exFAT was the culprit!
I formatted to fat32 and now CWM recovery can mount the SD card.
FYI, if it helps anyone else that comes across this same issue... it took me a while to find a good program to format my card...
I found one that someone created that worked like a charm!

The simple answer is Yes . Install PhilZ Touch 4 Recovery 4.88.5. All credit goes to PhilZ and all CWM folks :good:
PhilZ Touch 4 Recovery 4.88.5 based on CWM 6.0.2.9 will support both ext4 and exFAT filesystem under recovery mode.

Ok first of all I'm using dandroids latest rom and I recently installed the latest version of TWRP because Clockworkmod would not work with exfat and I read that TWRP would. So when I tried to do a backup with TWRP to my 64gb microsd card, it detected my external sd card as /storage/emulated/0 when it should really be /storage/extsdcard. Because it detected the wrong path it made a backup on my internal drive. When I use TWRP's file manager, I can navigate to the external sd path just fine and see all my files on my micro sdcard. When I click on the internal sd card button within the file manager the path shows simply sdcard. When I click on the externalsd button it shows /storage/emulated/0. How can I point the external sd to /storage/extsdcard instead of /storage/emulated/0?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok so I guess when I boot into recovery, I can choose the external sd card but not straight from the app icon. Its weird, but it works. I just have to boot to recovery first.
What App are you referring to ?
Try Nandroid manager to mange your Backups.

TWRP is what I was talking about. works great from recovery but not so much from within android. Maybe its just the Rom I'm running or something. I was more concerned with pointing recovery at my micro sd location where my nandroid backups are saved.
Can you Re-flash latest TWRP version for your Device ?
