I believe you do flash it just like any other rom, make sure to do a nandroid. I haven't done it yet though so wait for someone more experienced to reply. Gapps is google apps, CM is not allowed to package google apps with their rom.
Yay!!!!!!!!!
Nandroid, wipe SYSTEM, Factory reset, cache, dalvik cache and flash

I'm currently running cm7 rc3. Do I need to wipe cache and data if I'm upgrading to cm7 rc4?

I did a flash over, didn't wipe anything. No problems as of yet.

Its usually a good idea to at least wipe cache and dalvik. Shouldn't have to worry about data unless you are having problems.

Wipe cache and advanced>dalvik. Then apply the CM.zip, then GApps, zip if you use those, and then any custom kernel that you use.
Doing a backup beforehand is always recommended

Same thing here, no problems yet.
Rule of thumb is to just wipe the cache/dalvik if your updating to the same ROM, just a new update. It's really only when your cross-flashing a different ROM where you need to do a wipe data/factory reset.
I flashed AOKP milestone 5, I was coming from M4. I backed up SMS, pics, music and synced to Google for contacts in anticipation that when I wipe/reset I'd lose everything...
Flashed m5 and gapps after wiping and when I rebooted Android started to upgrade them it said something about apps and went configuring apps 1/138 and so on until it was done.
I was booted back into exactly what I had before same settings, apps, music. I went to about screen and I'm on M5 and 4.04
Did something go wrong ? Should I of had to get all my stuff back? Did I do a dirty flash somehow?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you didn't wipe it properly if it is working good no need to now but if you have problems then you should wipe and reflash.

Did you wipe all 3 areas? And how many times did you wipe?

I went into recovery and did wipe/data reset

Any extra input on this? Shall I reflash, I've been going for a few hours now and haven't noticed any problems but I want to be on the safe side

Check the Android revolution thread for the super wipe zip. Flash that then re flash m5.

You are good. It was rebuilding dalvik cache from you wipe before the installation.
So any reason that when I wiped, it well, didn't wipe? I only did data/factory reset in the recovery menu.

You didn't wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Factory/data wipe formats cache & data.
I wiped, cache, dalvik cache and data/factory reset then flashed AOKP M5 and Gapps again. When i got rebooted, its the same thing.. all my music is there, pics, sms, contacts, apps.
Why wont the phone let me wipe and install a rom fresh?
Is it because im already coming for aokp m4?
It is something to do with Clockwork mod?
Please help.
Try that super wipe lite zip mention earlier or go into the mounts section and format data, cache and system. Then wipe dalvik. Flash rom & gapps again.

i had this problem before when doing factory reset from cwm. i just use fastboot to flash stock 4.0.4 then use cwm to flash aokp.
1) wipe data/factory reset
2) wipe /system (if you don't wipe this partition it leaves settings and files from the previous rom that could prove problematic)
3) wipe dalvik
4) flash rom
5) flash gapps
if installing a kernel after wards
6) wipe dalvik (again)
7) flash kernel
The music and pics should matter unless your wiping the sd card in recovery the SMS should have been gone after a wipe though

Yeah the SMS is still there.. idk what to do its not like the phone doesn't work or anything but its weird that I can't wipe and start clean I'll prolly have to unroot/ lock the boot loader and start all over. If anyone else has any input, please share

OK, I know that you are supposed to wipe every time you flash a new rom. I am on CM9 Stable. I want to update to CM9.1. I think i need to wipe. But considering CM9.1 is an "update" I might not. So If I don't, then it'll save me so much time. But if I need to then OK. I don't want to have to wipe even though I didn't have to. So do I have to wipe when flashing to CM9.1 even though I'm on CM9?

No need to wipe, coming from Cm9 you're good to flash away. You will want to wipe cache/dalvik though afterwards if you get a boot loop.

I used twrp, factory reset, wipe system, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, flash 9.1, flash gapps. Prosper.
I accidentally deleted the download file on my phone from titanium backup now i cant go on android market plus also whenn i start up my phone i get something like a gapp error
Deleting the download folder shouldn't effect the ability to open/use the play store.
The only thing I could think of that should fix the issue, is to do a full wipe and eflash the ROM (and gapps if required for the ROM you are using).

Or try to just reflash gapps first.

I think he deleted the download apk which is an essential system component. If reflashing gapp doesn't work, I would suggest reflashing the ROM.

Reflash the rom wothout wiping, then flash gapps. It won't delete anything of yours

i have stockorama...I'm sorry I'm new to this so I would have to go into the zip and find the gapp folder then flash it???
The ROM and gapps are two separate zips. Flash the ROM first, then gapps package.

There are no gapps zip for touchwiz ROMs, the apps are already included in the ROM.
Do a full wipe and reflash the ROM.
You could just wipe cache and dalvik cache, but I would recommend just doing a full wipe and starting over to avoid further issues.

+1 didn't think about it being a two ROM. Been on aosp for so long. Lil. Yeah always nice to start fresh and clean, especially after something goes awry.

none of that worked =( luckily i had a backup of my phone before stockorama but now when n i try to readd stockorama doesnt work or if i do get it to work google play store doesnt work =(
also it just reboots into recovery each time but also during the installer it doesnt download any google apps
Touchwiz comes with the playstore and other samsung apps. You flash gapps when you are using an aosp based rom like jellybean. If reflashing the Stockoroma rom does not help my only suggestion is to download stock rom and firmware and then from there reflash the Stockorama rom. I'm pretty sure there is an easier solution to this but that is what I would try.
Hey guys so I'm pretty new to rooting and flashing roms and yesterday I flashed the Liquidsmooth rom onto my phone now there is an update and its not like CM where you can update through settings I was wondering how you would go about updating a rom. Thanks in advance.
Download it from the main thread, or maybe with goomanager, and flash it in recovery

Are you supposed to factory restore or wipe cache? Do you just flash on top of previous rom?
Depends if the dev states a full wipe is needed.. If not then just wipe system, cache & dalvik, and flash
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the info you wouldn't happen to know if the Liquidsmooth rom requires cache or total wipe would you?
Just do a system wipe, if you have issues do a full wipe
