What's your thoughts - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Anyone upgrade to this from a gnex?
Is this like owning an s4 equipped galaxy nexus?
I can't decide between this and evo4glte (will probably go with the lg s4pro phone instead idk...), what's the difference hardware wise between this and the gnex? The evo4gllte seems like a huge upgrade for me but I like the galaxy s series..
Edit: Let me verify if the only real difference between this and the gnex is the chipset and cameras, I might upgrade to that instead since it'll be like owning the s3 in my own little world but half priced

there are a million thread about this bro. just do a search on here or google

s4 is a big step up and touchwiz has nice features that gnex won't have. The camera is way better on this phone . I thought duel core was duel core not i was wrong this phone flys stock.

Except that's a prototype with a generic case to hide what the real phone will look like. Whether or not that's the GS3 or another variant is still up in the air but what's for sure...is no retail phone will look exactly like that.

Hey guys. I bet you have heard this question a million times, but I am looking at purchasing a new phone. I currently have a Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1.1 which I'm going to give my girlfriend...
I am debating on buying another Galaxy Nexus (which is AU$429 brand new) or a Quad-Core SGS3 (which I found for AU$633 for 16GB model, brand new)
I know it comes down to pure Android vs Touchwiz and Dual Core vs Quad Core. As far as I can see, there is no real need for a quad core phone just yet.. unless someone can point out why a quad core phone is better?
If money was no object.. which phone would you choose and why?
I plan on purchasing one tomorrow. Please help me decide.

I also recently had to choose between the HTC One X, SGS3 and Galaxy Nexus, when I heard about Jellybean I chose the Nexus. I tried both and I personally prefer the pure android interface over HTC Sense (which IMO is way better than TouchWiz), also the Jelly Bean update makes it feel quicker than (or a quick as) the One X/SGS3
The downfall of choosing the Galaxy Nexus is that a number of high end HD games on the Play Store require a quad core processor (specifically Tegra 3), however I rarely seriously game on my phone other than playing the occasional Angry Birds-esque games, which run just fine.
Also, the SGS3 has a MicroSD slot meaning memory is not limited, and there is also a 64GB version (according to http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php).
The only place where a quad core processor offers more than a dual core is in benchmarks and gaming. Make your choice according to what is more important for you.
I chose the Galaxy Nexus over the HTC One X/SGS3
EDIT: The SGS3 also has a better camera and bigger screen (same technology though, but it has less DPI)
GNex is great. SgsIII is crap. Have fun.

S3 community vs upcoming Note II

T Mobile community seems dead. I don't know if it's just me but where are all the developers? The Note II is coming out soon. I have a feeling everyone is going to jump on that.
So forum... Should i stick with the S3 or hold out and wait for the Note II.
Note II has a quadcore vs the S3 having a dual core..
will i notice a difference between the two performance wise?

I would not get a phone with an Exynos processor after what codeworkx said about it, but that's just me.
Also, not sure how many ROMs you are looking for. There's a bunch of TouchWiz, there's CM10, AOKP, MIUI (still WIP), and some other AOSP-derived ROMs.
Thats what they said when att got note I. Go check the note I development and you will see how vivid it is +devs are waiting the release of stable jellybean. And idk what you mean by dead, we got every possible rom that exists around xda community. If you are a flash addict then that is your problem. But the best kernel dev has a galaxy s3(faux) + we got cyanogen also. As it regard touchwiz there is not much to dev about it cuz sammy did really well. Reread your post. You said that the s3 dev community is dead. And keep in mind that note 2 grabs only the attention of maybe 20% of the buyers cuz most of them do not like something that is that huge. Plus do some research. Its processor is old technology uses a9. When a15 comes out then yes you can call it an upgrade.

No way I would get a Note. Way to big and I have big hands. Just no reason for it.
When buying my S3, rep had what I thought was a tablet streaming music off it. He said it was the Note 1 and sat it down next to the S3 and I was like I am amazed at how many people use this as a phone. He told me he never uses it as a phone, rather an entertainment device. Had an Apple as his regular phone, lol!
Biggest I would go is....maybe 5", but honestly feel 4.8" is the sweet spot for guys with decent sized hands. Girls 4.3" should suffice.
I honestly believe the phablets will be a thing of the past in less than a couple years, maybe even sooner.

Not note 2 for me. Phone looks great but I think is too much for me, I thought this phone was too big at first. The only thing it help was that I had a galaxy nexus and evo lte, I don't think 5 inches will be comfortable to use but who knows, I never thought I was going to get bigger then 4.3 (back on 2010 with original evo) and here we are now ha ha
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
4.8 is def a sweet spot, but at times it can be a chore reaching your thumb towards the top of the screen while using it one handed. Most people use bluetooth ear devices anyway so phonewise its not a huge concern with size

It is super hard to get aosp ROMs going on exynos based devices...Samsung doesn't like to release there source and drivers for there soc and when they do it is to late and outdated. Omap and Qualcomm are great at releasing s#it
I have a feeling there will be a lot of tw based ROMs for the N2. Maybe one or two hacked up aosp ROMs

S3 or nexus 4?

I have the s3 and its a great phone but not that impressed. I don't use any of the voice features or anything and since the jb update I have had battery and other issues. A friend wants to trade for his nexus 4 and I am wondering if anyone has thoughts. Other then no expansion on memory or changing battery what do you think? I have watched many videos but I trust xda members more then comparison videos.
Oh I know lte also but I dont use lte much anyway.

People in my area seam to think the note 2 is a bar of gold. They have them priced close to and even above what you can buy them new no contract price. While they are pricing the s3 around 250. Plus I had the note 1 and hated the size. I am an update junky which is why I am thinking about it.

The Nexus 4 is not all hype its got same CPU as the Note II which is the fastest processor available in a phone right now. If the Note II wasn't so thick and bulky i would get it but I prefer the S3 because of additional storage and removable battery 16gb just isn't enough for me but if it is for you get the Nexus 4 you wont be disappointed with either.

I have an S3 and my GF has an LG Optimus G. I wanted to see her get a Nexus 4 but we gave up. That said I'm impressed with the Optimus G, based on feel and hardware I would pick the LG phone, but I am very pleased with my S3. The performance and battery life of the LG is amazing, also black is a good color for a phone.
Lovin' my rooted S3 running stock 4.2.1 but if you're not into rooting N4 is a great choice especially the price of it. Can't really go wrong with either imo. It all comes down to preference

Actually, the Nexus 4 and the Optimus G have the same processor. S4 Pro. The Note II uses Samsung's own quad core processor (same as the S3 International)
Its like comparing apples to oranges. The Optimus G has no dev support, so that's a no go for me. Also heard the camera is brutal in low light. Yet the phone has some amazing specs for a decent price.
The Nexus 4 has amazing specs, and for the price nothing beats it. I can live with no expandable memory as long as I got 16GB. Hilariously, people are selling them for $500 to $600 because they are hard to get. I'll just wait till its back in stock.
And the golden Note II. I'll get one some day. But not for $650 to $800. Imagine telling my wife we can't afford the mortgage this month cause I bought a phone Lol. Almost as stupid as people paying over $800 for a iPhone 5. Ludicrous.

Correct, that's my mistake I thought the Note II featured the same S4 Pro found in the Optimus G and Nexus 4. The international Note II and apparently the US versions as well have the slightly upgraded Exynos 4212 @ 1.6ghz compared to the original 1.4ghz 4212 found in the International S3. To be fair though the S4 Pro might be a tad bit faster and more secure, not sure if you heard about the Exynos kernel exploit but the S4 Pro seems a bit of a better option at this point.

if you go on the Nexus 4 forum, you'll see a lot of complain about the battery.
And according to this test : http://mobileraptor.blogspot.ca/2012/12/google-nexus-4-battery-life-tests.html
if you only use your nexus to make call, you'll be fine. However, for everything else, the battery drains a lot faster than the GS3 :

Not really. Although it may look the same it has about the same or best features as the one. This phone is great and for those that have a note 2 it may not be that much of an update but for s3 owners it's a decent upgrade. But with lots of the software updates from s4 coming to s3 this phone is more of a phone for those trying Sammy for the first time. In the end this phone is a sure competition to the htc one.

I personally don't see the upgrade for S3 owners but definitely see it for S2 owners. I was hoping for more wow factor since the S series and Note series are typically pretty close to each other save a few small differences.

This. S3 users will be pretty silly to get this upgrade unless money is no object for them. I do like a few this though. The white version for example is not just white it looks like it has a textured face. And the Window for the flip cover. The biggest update would be the AC wifi. I wish the Note 2 had that.
Also anyone catch that it has an IR LED? That's sweet if it does.

I'm really disappointed that they didn't focus on improving design and build quality. I love my Note 2 but will definitely hold out if the Note 3 is just a spec'd up update. It's awesome that the battery is removable and a SD card can be used, but I really believe they could used more premium parts in place of the chrome strip and plastic cover. If struggling HTC is capable of creating a gorgeously designed phone, then Samsung -with all it's resources and money - can definitely design a well-crafted, premium device.
But I am looking forward to the Note 3 and the new features the device will include. I just hope the device doesn't get any bigger (if it does, i hope it's not significantly noticeable) and includes more premium parts. Can you imagine the Note with an aluminum, removable battery cover and a premium chrome belt?
The plastic adds less weight and makes the screen less prone to breaking. I have dropped my phone numerous of times and never had to replace my screen. More weigh equals more weight which equals more mass and force when you drop your phone.
I believe Samsung's goal is to make their phone light and durable. If I had a choice of either protecting my screen or my phone cover I rather had a phone with some nicks than a cracked screen.

The Smart Scroll feature is pretty cool. I also like that it can tell if you are watching a video and if you look away from the screen it will auto pause. It comes with 4.2.2 so hopefully it can be easily ported to our Note II

Exynos chip is more optimized . Having it in the s2 you should know. Use the US variant of the s3 vs the international, it is just smoother with the exynos. So that's why its a deal breaker. Not going to settle for less. I really don't care for LTE.
