Rooted and CWM my epic 4gt, now how do I flash to straight talk and activate?

My ep4gt is rooted and CWM, but where do I find the rom for straight talk? I assume I need a rom to make this work on the ST unlimited plan.
Once flashed, how do I activate on ST?
Sorry searched couldn't find this answered.

You can't. Straight Talk uses T-Mobile's network which is GSM/AWS, and requires a sim card. This phone is CDMA only.

Straight Talk is CDMA (through Verizon) And no it hasn't been/ cannot be done as far as I know.

ST uses ATT, Verizon, and t mobile afaik.
There are mulitiple services on ebay offering to flash your cdma phone over to ST on the verizon network.

I PM'ed him,no reply yet as to if there is a way to do this without paying to have this done.

Id save over a 100 a month if I could switch my lines to straight talk. Im kind of interested in this also, but its something ill want to do myself and not through ebay.

For Android phones, Straight Talk uses Sprint. They signed a contract back some months ago. They are not ties to a specific provider and will use what makes sense for them, so it could change over time.

Well these phones when flashed use the verizon network. There are lots of youtube videos where they call some number and it tells you the provider.
So i'm seeing that this is a paid for service only (to have phone flashed to ST)

Interesting. 2 people I know with ST, and both phones have SIM cards. Granted, both are clamshells, but good to know.

I bought two ST phones last year, the Samsung qwerty slider, and the one that looks like a blackberry. They were both cdma and ran off the Verizon network. They had bars where my sprint phone did not. I guess different regions use different carriers to piggy back on. There is no T-Mobile coverage in a 10 mile radius where I live.

I'm sure Straight Talk is willing to use whatever makes the most sense for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch stuff around over time.

Maybe this process goes around that? But I have confirmed that these phones do work on the vrz network.

I switched mine to Alltel $45/month unlimited talk text and web but it roams does anybody else who flashed their epic touch always have a roaming indicator? Also my sprint 4g still works

how did you flash yours?

I have my ET4G running on prepaid Platinumtel. You can take any Sprint (Android is easiest) phone and "hack" it to run on any Sprint MNVO network easy (with some diligent research on the web) such as Platinumtel, Virgin etc. I can't say how here, only that it can be done

Update:
You have to start the port process 24 hours before the idiot starts the flash process. It's not really a flash though.
It uses the verizon towers, no question. You can change around your prl's to determine which towers you wish to use.

This is probably for the best because my new job has 0 sprint coverage (deep inside a building) and i've been roaming on verizon for the last 2 months while at work. Anyway, I do love my epic 4g touch and while there are other phones that are now "superior" I'd prefer to keep it if possible.
So my quesiton is:
What other providers can I use with an E4GT, and how much work does it take to switch? (Flashing, odin, etc). And also, what would I lose in terms of 4g/3g/MMS, etc I'd prefer prepaid services like boost or cricket but of course, I don't know if they have coverage where I work but having all options on the table would be helpful!

I think it can be flashed to metro pcs, boost mobile, and virgin mobile. There's a couple threads around here giving you exact instructions in how to do so so check those out. I believe you'll lose 4g except with metro and everyhing else should be good.

Virgin Mobile is launching their 4G WiMax service at the end of the month. Something to look into.

Page Plus (VZW) is really your only option as the rest of the MVNO's listed here are Sprint. So same/no service.

Best off selling it and getting a new phone honestly.

I thought it varied by region for the reselling companies?

You can flash it to anything cdma. You would need a donor phone though. you would most likely only lose wimax.

Ok time to give it to you raw..... (No Homo!) This is what you need to do my friend, go to google type in prepaid services and your zip code. See what pops up for your area then make some phone calls to them and ask them about their service in your area. Secondly you can then go to all of their respective sites and check out the deals. You may find like mentioned that selling the phone and purchasing lets say a T-mobile branded Galaxy 2 and using Simple Mobile may work better for you.
I understand trying to ask your fellow members but honestly what we are going to tell you I am sure you already know. Lastly, check with others in your area and see if one of the other big 3 work extremely well in your area that you desire the coverage and then check out their prepaid services

AT&T - H2O
Verizon - Page Plus
Sell your phone for $250 purchase another Galaxy 2 for around $300 or work a trade out with someone.... Time to do some homework my friend... Get close with Google...

So it seems the only cdma carriers that use/resell verizon are pageplus and of course, verizion. Can an epic 4g touch be flashed to either of those?

I currently have my epic 4g touch flashed to straight talk 45 unlimited on Verizon coverage way better than sprint faster data far as 3g goes around 1.5mb a sec and signal is awesome

Awesome! How hard was it to flash it to straight talk? Any links would be helpful! I've never done a flash to another carrier so i'm not sure how hard it is exactly. So so far to get verizon coverage I can use:
Verizon resellers that work on an epic 4g touch (flashed):
Page Plus
Verizon Prepaid
Straight Talk
Sprint resellers
Boost Mobile
Cricket
US cellular?
MetroPCS
Virgin Mobile
If any of that is wrong let me know.

I flashed mine to Page Plus. Followed this guide, talk text and data work, but I am still working on removing the hidden Sprint APN settings to get MMS working.
It might seem a little intimidating, but it was pretty easy.

If you dont have a donor phone thats ok, but dont expect to get full 3G speeds without it. If you use the vzw password, you get 1x data. At least I am not getting raped on the monthly fee, so I can save up for the S3 and will probably move to straight talk.

question is, if he had to roam at work because Sprint obviously did not have tower close enough, then wouldn't Boost be a waste of time because you can't roam with boost, or virgin mobile for that matter, meaning he would just not have service where he works.

Thanks for that link, its awesome. I will likely go the page plus route though after googling the new phones im on the fence now, lol. The Galaxy note may be coming to t-mo as is the SIII. I don't want to spend $700 on a new phone, but if I can get $275 for my E4GT i'd be willing to pay maybe $500 and just eat the difference. I have until about June 20 to make my decision. At this point it'll either be new phone or page plus / straight talk flashed E4GT. I am pretty sure sprint doesn't set my ESN to bad on my epic just because they are booting me. If they do I'll be pretty irate.

if 4g is available in your area you can purchase a modem for it (clear wire, time Warner,net zero,etc) and use its MAC addy on your et4g as to still have 4g, I'll edit my post when I'm on my laptop to link to the thread with instructions to do that....

Have the same issue, you may want to try and port to Google Voice, terminate your Sprint account this will automatically happen once a port takes hold of the account number. Let the account terminate; start a new line of service from one of the big three or back to yellow shortly after.If you love the E4GT, go back to yellow the next cycle with a new bis/indiv. account and port your number back. Not happy or locked into the contract just prl flash back to the reason you most likely got terminated and then go over to big red when the SIII is released. Done and done... you'll keep the same phone if on yellow with little loss, and no ETF...

Can you explain what you are saying more for me? im getting kicked off due to a roaming issue on the 18th (tomorrow) and this is my business number so i need to keep it, however the 2nd line is fine on yellow which doesnt make any sence since its a business share plan so they told me that i can keep the 2nd line but will need to go to another carrier with the primary, dont care for limits on data so verizon seems like my only option but are you saying to take the number back to yellow after switching to another? cause they told me i could try after the new carriers 2 year contract but cant gaurentee ,,,but i thinkk that might have been a wink wink in the conversation from the yellow lady. i wouldnt mind switching to ver. prepay with my E4gt just to keep things smooth for now so if anything can you point me to a thread to do this (preferably wo a donor but i do have an old verizon prepay, its the one that flips both regular and landscape style, so would this one work as a donor, it has been activated before tho....thanks

I had a few questions since I am tried of sprint and want to get a n7100 on soalvei (tmobile network):
1) how would I know my area is refarmed? ( I live in north miami, fl )
2) is there a site or thread of a large sample of speed tests I can look up for my area on the network compatible with the n7100? The reason i ask is that I am afraid that I won't get reliable high speed (anything over 5Mbit down consistently is my goal).
3) I am on the fence about solavei and was wondering if tmobile has any options to purchase that do not throttle your speeds? I plan to use 20-30gb a month
4) Is there a trusted site that I can purchase an unlocked gsm n7100 that is compatible with the high speed tmobile network? I don't want to spend more than $600 if possible.
5) should I invest in the n7105 (has lte radio) since tmobile merged with metropcs and is rolling out LTE? (or should I wait for the note 3?)
I am completely out of the loop on tmobile news and would appreciate any help on making the switch over.

I have been using Solavei since early September and I love it. Like you I came from Sprint (12 years!) and grew to hate them. I haven't really tried selling it much, was mostly interested in the price and plan. However just out of the occasional conversation I've already signed up 6 people which puts me at $40 a month, making my effective bill $9 a month. That's a bargain in my book!
There is a site with a map that is showing where the refarmed areas are www.airportal.de
As for throttling, I consider myself a very heavy user and rarely break 3GB's of data, I can't imagine using 20 to 30 and even any possible unthrottled plans you might find yourself having your account cancelled for that much data.
Unless you can confirm you are in a refarmed area I'd stick with the T-Mo branded Note 2.

When I check my IMEI on solavei, it says "sorry! your phone isn't compatible with Solavei Mobile Service" I just unlocked it, does it take some time?

Their IMEI checker doesn't check whether a phone is unlocked or not, it's just checking the number against a small database of known compatible phones. I have the TMO GN2 and it works fine with some caveats. Like everyone else with the TMO note2 I couldn't use the wifi hotspot without rooting and the APN settings for Solavei and the GN2 are slightly different than other Android phones and it took some experimentation on my part to get them correct so that MMS worked.
Beyond that if the phone has GSM and is unlocked it will work subject to potential speed issues for non TMO phones (except Blackberry).

Hmm, how am I suppose to get a SIM? Would I have to use a dummy phone to register with solavei?

I just grabbed the IMEI for a phone I knew would work and had the right sized SIM. The IMEI used to confirm the phone is not at all tied to the account and is only used to size the SIM and match to their database. Once you receive your SIM you can just activate and go.
For that matter I have bulk packs of Solavei SIM's and could just send you one and register you if you don't already have a sponsor, or find someone local who has SIM's in stock.

I did the same thing, my sponsor let me use his IMEI just to get the sim, and then once we liked the service, my wife used his sim for her own note 2.
As for question number 3, they do have a plan that doesn't have any cap, but I believe it's $89 per month.

Awesome, I am glad you like it. I was hoping to use my phone to download .nzb movies while on the go and use it as my main internet line via tethering. That is where I came up with the 20-30 gb figure.
Would solavei throttle me or block my account if I use that much data?

Solavei gives you 4gb 4g speed than throttle you to 2g

Doesn't sprint throttle as well? In this part of TN sprint coverage is plain garbage. Then again, I don't think I have ever lived in a good sprint coverage area.
T-Mobile seems to have the only truly unlimited plan that isn't throttled. I just don't think it's worth $89 a month. But I also pay only $34 per month for a 10 mb fiber line to the house. Ymmv.

Nope, sprint doesn't throttle at all, although it's hard to find a place with LTE or WiMAX which means, you'll be stuck on their 3G at best.

[Q] Unlimited Everything - Which Version

First, I want it all, duh. Talk, Text and data - all unlimited and not the new definition of unlimited.
So which carrier will give it all and for the lowest price? Not sacrificing service too much.
What would help is your actual bill after taxes, fees, etc.
Secondly, which version of the Note II (Verizon, Sprint, etc) is most adaptable to changing carriers? Obviously the GSM ones are the easiest to switch, but there are threads of hacks to change a CDMA phone to GSM. Most are works in Progress. Which version would be the easiest to convert?

Well, your kinda asking two different things. As for adaptability, i7100/7105 probably. As far as best plans, Sprint I think, why else would anyone stay with them?

If you can afford to buy this phone for full price Sprint is launching there no contract plans on the 25th. 70 $ for unlimited everything with no contract, LTE included. T-Mobile is also has something similar for unlimited everything but no LTE and in am not sure of price.

Tmobile also has unlimited data(which has great coverage btw and it's close to 4glte speeds) but it throttles you down to 2g if you pass your
High speed internet limit(unless you get their true unlimited data, which is pretty expensive).

There are only dedicated phones that will work with Sprint Go no contract deal launching later this month. You can not just grab any Sprint phone and throw in on a Sprint Go plan.

Virgin Mobile - $55 +? Sprint MVNO - CDMA

*Ting - Sprint MVNO CDMA Oddball, but I may break even with their generally low prices. I am not sure of my data usage.
Also, since I am buying the Note II outright, which version for your prefered provider from the list above?

Go over 300mb of data in a day or 5GB in a month and risk losing your phone number forever with StraightTalk . They are supposed to warn you before they cut you. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't! If potentially losing your phone number permanently is not a big deal for you go with Straight talk.

I have 3 phones 2 with data i pay about 180$ 1500 minutes unlimited data and texting. Sprint service will be better then verizon by the end of this year at the earliest first quarter of 2014. LTE will be beyond better then verizon. just give it time i have sprint and i love it. :laugh:

look, it depends a lot on how you use your phone. Sprint is my only option since I use over 30GB a data a month on it. If you're into switching carriers all the time, maybe GSM is a better option for you. GSM is used just about everywhere. As you know, Sprint and Verizon are the only CDMA in the US (or at least major carriers); they may be some others that may be using Sprint or Verizon's network such as Credo.
As for the phone, they're all the same. On only minor differences between the international and US versions.
No carrier is going to be perfect. Find that one that fits your needs, wants and both in the future (to your best guess) and go with it. One thing is true about Sprint, it's unlimited and they don't throttle. I would replace my home internet with it, but unless you're using data like that, they'll not going to hassle if you pay your bill.

O.K. guys, I made a decision and have a question.
I am going with Ting. I will just have to watch my data usage and if it gets bad enough, I can go back to Sprint.
Now, do Sprint ROMs work with Ting phones? Anything I should be made aware of?

It appears that you're talking about taking your Sprint Note II and intend to use it on a different carrier? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that's indeed what you're doing, prepare for an entirely different undertaking & decision making process.
There are many here (including myself) that do this, and one thing holds true...if you're using a CDMA phone, the best you're going to get is 3G...that being said, I see hundreds of posts throughout these forums where most people that do it are only getting 1x data speeds. I've been very successful in getting 3g no matter what handset/carrier I flash to, but if you do some reading you'll see it's not something beginners, or even moderately skilled people do consistently so bear that in mind.
If that's your intention, then you have a much longer road ahead of you than just picking a carrier...I can definitely help with *most* of your questions on that topic, but depending on a few details, there are things that are just not discussed or condoned here in these forums.

I bought the Note II from Ting, so it will already be set up. Also Ting/Sprint you can (supposedly) transfer easily back and forth between the two carriers. Other carriers may be too big of a problem for me. Also Ting supplies 4g via Sprint.

Moving to an area with no T-Mobile coverage...

In the next couple of months, I'll be moving to a part of the U.S. with no good T-Mobile coverage. It's a bit out in the boonies... I've been out there, and I can talk and text, but the data coverage is almost non-existent. So my question is what can I do with this GSM GS3? AT&T coverage is also non-existent. My options seem to be Verizon, Sprint, and something called Plateau (which Wiki says Verizon has purchased).
Am I basically screwed? Am I going to have to get myself a CDMA variant? Will this GSM work on Verizon's network but at reduced speeds? Blah... Thanks for any insights.

You could call support and see if they have any information about any possible network expansion in that area. If they have no plans, or no information, I would suggest looking into switching carriers and selling your S3. Thats what I would do anyway.
Just depends on how necessary mobile data is to you.

See if you can swap phones with someone... Before you leave. Put up a post on Craigslist if you have one in your area offering to swap devices... People that are under contract and want to switch to T-Mobile would jump all over it and you'd get a free phone essentially on a carrier that works (I would recommend Verizon if you're in the boonies, Sprint's PCS coverage is going to be spotty no doubt and their data speeds are horrible everywhere) and you could end up with a shorter contract than being a new customer. All it takes is a transfer of liability.
Unfortunately, the GSM version has no support for CDMA so you have to get a new phone either way.

Try signal booster from Tmo it's free, call tech support not regular nono rep.

Verizon is most likely the best choice, as has been stated. Welcome to paying 50% more for the same plan. That's the only reason I don't use them. They are better where I live. Reception and data is 4G here. But not paying $40 more a month for it.

Depending on your usage you could look into Verizon MVNOs like PagePlus. Their plans work well for a lot of people.
