[Fulfilled!]Flashable CyanogenMod10 boot animation for CM10 roms (new style) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/21/download-the-gorgeous-cyanogenmod-10-boot-animation/
I downloaded and manually "installed" the above boot animation but it resulted in a black screen, even after boot up my screen remained black. Did a battery pull and restored my nandroid so I'm back in business but as much as I like the ParanoidAndroid boot animation, I think the new CM10 one is better. Could anyone be bothered to make a flash able zip of said animation for me/us? I'd appreciate it.

It didn't work for you because the file you downloaded contains bootanimations for multiple resolutions. You just have to pull out the one for vertical 720p to manually install.
EDIT: Also, it seems they used compression instead of store-only for that bootanimation. Rezipping it without compression makes it work.
Downloads:
1) ClockWorkMod recovery / TWRP flashable version: CWM-CM10_v720p_bootanimation.zip
2) Manual install version (to /data/local/bootanimation.zip): CM10_v720p_bootanimation.zip
(edit2: anyone have a better naming convention for flashable zips now that CWM isn't the only recovery in town? (I use TWRP))

I did exactly that, extracted only the vertical 720 zip and installed it manually, no go. But thanks for the flash able zip, I'll report back in a few.

Looks like they only messed that single vertical 720p animation up with compression, as all the rest are uncompressed. Also, the 720, 768, an 800 versions are exactly the same:

Ah, ok. Well I flashed the zip you made and it works like a charm, thanks again. This ParanoidAndroid ROM is pretty nice, its got a few kinks that still need to be worked out but this boot animation makes it that much better. Appreciate your work man, thanks coming.

I'm not sure.
I know that it won't work on stock TouchWiz even after you copy /system/bin/bootanimation over /system/bin/samsungani, because it won't break out of an infinite loop (so the .zip's desc.txt has to be modified to only loop a fixed number of times). If the custom stock roms replace the standard bootanimation binary with one that works... then it should work fine.

hey man..i tried flashing the zip in 1. BUt TWRP says FAILED in red. would u know why.
I did exactly what the OP did and I am having the same issue like him. BLank screen on every boot. The system is ON though.
Would u know why?
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: NEVER MIND...i did it. ALso, just a question. What is this 'only Store' and 'no compression' thing got to do with the bootanimation. I did the same thing and got into the same issue as the OP. Luckily found your files.
THanks a ton @zmore

[HELP] Boot Animation problems.

I have made my own boot animation with two parts. The first part plays like it should but after that first play it just stops and does not continue to the second part (the second part is a loop see below).
-When I made them into a .zip archive I DID choose Store method.
This is my desc.txt:
480 800 15
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
-P.S. I have already made sure that there were no Thumbs or DS files in any of these folders.
-P.S.S I have downloaded other boot animations and they work and have the same file structure.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

How large is the zip? cuz i tried to make one, and it was around 20 mb, apparently that is too big, according to someone i asked
Also make sure they are all the same file type/color depth, i've had problems where mine wouldn't play because I had mixed color depths where some files were rgb and others were indexed color.
Try to change 15 to 10 in the script to see if that helps. By changing the number of frames played per second, you can trim some frames out making the boot smaller. Before you trim try to change the script only.

Make sure when you go from the part0 to part1, the files stay in order. For example if your last picture in part0 is boot00050, the first file in part1 should be boot00051.
Thanks to everyone that wanted to help me! But I wound up just completely redoing it and it now runs fine. Still don't know what I did. Oh well got it now. Mods please close.

Stock Kernel For Jelly Bean That Provides Boot Animation

Anyone know of a kernel I can use with my AT&T S3 - UCDLK3/Jelly Bean. I am looking for one that doesn't have modifications to WiFi/Bluetooth, and pretty much only allows for Boot Animations. I am using the latest Stock/Rooted ROM.

Unless you really just want a new kernel, the stock ATT kernel will allow custom boot animations with a few minor edits... this works for JB or ICS. Make backup copies of files just in case, or Nandroid but this is simple change, really.
in /system/bin, do the following:
1. delete samsungani
2. rename bootanimation to samsungani (the file, not a zip file)
You will need to edit the boot animation zip you want to use. Open with archiver of choice and navigate to the desc.txt file.
Change the 0 after the p in the second line to a 1. Here's an example in bold:
720 1280 30
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
change to:
720 1280 30
p 1 0 part0
p 1 0 part1
Save, and place in /system/media. Reboot. Profit.
Oh yeah, make sure perms are set (644) or it won't work.

Worked thanks Now need to change the startup audio.
Well I thought it worked, but I don't get the Animation I was expecting, but just a multi colored "X" which I think is the default Nexus boot animation?
Found the PowerOn.ogg file in /system/media/audio/ui folder. Renamed that to PowerOn.old and copied a wav file to same folder as PowerOn.ogg, works. Just can't get the bootanimation.zip file to load. Just the glowing "X" loads as the animation.
EDIT:
Using the above method just prevents the AT&T logo boot animation from running, and it defaults to /data/local/bootanimation.zip. I tried renaming that file, and copying the custom bootanimation.zip to /data/local, but that seemed to mess up my phone. It would boot, but the screen was blank, and then parts would become visible. Had to restore from a backup to get phone working again.
EDIT AGAIN:
Looks like one particular Boot Animation ZIP file is the culprit. I tried another and placed it in /data/local and it worked.
This mess up my phone all i get it is black screen even after i wait good 10 min. I had to restore nandroid backup..

Just saw this...black screen after boot is usually a perms issue. Double check all file perms before rebooting.

Bootanimation doesn't work

Hi,
i just tried me on the bootanimation. This is my desc.txt file
Code:
480 800 30p 1 0 part0p 0 0 part1
I have two folders named (part0 and part1) with files in there named:
boot_htc_win xxx.png
and xxx are the numbers from 001 to 090 and in the other folder 01 to 12.
I hope you can help me. I tryed this Bootanimation with an custom ROM where i enabled the bootanimation in the data/local folder. And after that doesn't worked i also replaced the bootanimation zip in the system/media/resource folder. Than there is only a black screen without andy animation.
When u zipped the files, did u change the compression to "store"?
first not but at the last Version i changed it to store and i also choosed zip
==EDIT==
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m3i90ttk57p7kl1/7IodA7vOdA
maybe this helps
I downloaded it and i know where u went wrong.
Ur desc.txt is fine.
Folder "part0" is fine.
Now the "part1" folder is wrong.
In part0 u have .png files 1 - 12
In part1 ur .png files r 1 - 90 they should be 13 - 102.
Soo
part0 files 1 - 12
part1 files 13 - 102
Dont forget aswell when u zip the file to set compression to store.
Thank you so much The first part now works wonderfull but the 2nd part doesn't apear. Any ideas?
I put it on my phone and seems to work fine.. whats the second part supposed to do? Looking at the png files, the bootanimation to me seems fine
2nd part should be the loading circle. Maybe the phone is simply to fast booting so the 2nd part isn't shown I'll test it on an other rom what takes longer to boot

hey can you help me with my bootanimation problem?
itried everything
on my phone no bootanimation works
i tried every bootanimation from XDA forum(xperia sola)
earlier every bootanimation worked
now none does
i tried reflashing a new formware
still the same problem
I encountered the same thing. Earlier I tried about 3 boot animations, which all worked. The 4th one didn't work, and afterwards, the previous 3 didn't work either!!! Now I can't get any of them to work.... I think my files are all file. I'm using the Boot Anim program with the 400 boot animations. Through abd didn't work, by using the ROM didn't work, through the recovery gives me an error (for all 4, even those that worked), and directly pasting into /system/media didn't work either... What's the problem here???
Running AOKP jb milestone 2 here.
Permissions
At least on my lg g flex 2 it only worked with the permissions at exactly rw- r-- r--
I also had the problems before and nothing worked, I setted permissions to higher and tried around, but it only worked with rw- r-- r--.
Also I heard there shold be no Thumbs.db files.
The other things should be testable on a preview program.

Boot animation not working

I have made a simple boot animation, but I can't get it to play the "part1" stuff. My desc.txt looks like this:
Code:
720 1280 24
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
And there are 164 frames in the "part0" folder, which I want to play once, followed by looping the 24 frames in the "part1" folder until boot. That's a total of 188 frames, and I have them numbered all the way from 000-187 (000.png, 001.png, etc...). I have tried both continuous numbering, and starting over at 000 with the "part1" animation, but every time, I get the first 164 to play, and then black until boot. Am I doing something wrong here, or am I just missing something? I could split it up into more parts if that needs to be done, but I don't see why it should matter.
EDIT: Is it a problem if there isn't an empty line at the end of desc.txt?
The numbering in folder 1 should continue from folder 0. So if the last image in folder 0 is 112 then the first image in the next folder should be 113. Also make sure you add the images with no compression.
Send me a link when your done, I've been looking to use a new boot animation or if you just want my help I can fix it for you.

Lg boot screen?

Anyone know if the Lg part of the boot animation can be disabled? I a newb, but I think it may be affecting my custom boot animation making it cut off too early. I'm on the skydragon rom. Also I set permissions to r-w-r-r on both bootanimation.zip as well as poweron.ogg. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

If you are talking about the screen that says powered by android at the bottom (splash screen), it's separate from the boot animation. I don't recommend disabling it. You can change your bootanimation settings in your desc.txt file. If you have multiple folders, part0, part1,.... etc.... change the p of the folder line to c and that should make your boot animation complete before going to your default screen. Here's an example of how to modify your desc.txt. The change is in BOLD:
Text to right between (....) describes each "setting" in desc.txt and are not part of the desc.txt file.
Original
1080 1920 30 (1080x1920 resolution at 30fps)
p 2 10 part0 (play,# of times to repeat, amount of frame pause, folder part)
p 3 0 part1 (play,# of times to repeat, amount of frame pause, folder part)
Changed
1080 1920 30 (1080x1920 resolution at 30fps)
p 2 10 part0 (play,# of times to repeat, amount of frame pause, folder part)
c 3 0 part1 (complete, # of times to repeat, amount of frame pause, folder part)
Hope this helps.
Thanks for info I'll try it out when I get a chance, or in the mood rather to switch it back out. I'm currently using one from one of the themes for cm12, but right now I'm on blisspop.

Is your bootanimation part of a theme you are developing? Or is it only a boot animation.zip file? If just a file, you can try and place it in /data/local/tmp and see if it supersedes the stock one. I have been having an issue getting a custom bootanimation to work on rooted stock D851, both KK and LP. If I place in /system/media or /data/local/tmp and either rename the original BA or move it to another location, when I reboot phone, it shows LG screen until boot complete. Seems to be on going issue. Wouldn't think it would affect CM based ROMs with theme engine. You may want to work it into a theme a see what happens.

Try placing it in /data/local/tmp and reboot. Sometimes that'll work. As for theme development, there are excellent resources here on XDA. Search theming, cm12 themeing, or similar. Also check github.com/cyngn for the latest CM12.x theme templetes and requirements.
Good luck.

As long as you can extract a zip and repack it, you can change the desc.text file or any of your frames in the boot animation. Just make sure there is no compression selected when you rezip. Make sure you select "Store" for your level of compression (which is zero compression). For some reason, rthe G3 doesn't want to accept an alternate boot animation. I've tried /system/media and /data/local/tmp for storage with no luck. Usually get the splash screen until boot or sometimes a blank screen after splash screen until boot. I am probably going to try CyanogenMod or another ROM that has the CM theme engine and use my personal theme as a test to see if that works.

Well it working fine stock rooted. Except for not playing all the way through. I had to extract it with es to edit it. That said I had no idea what to select when I reziped it. That's probably where I screwed up.

Stock KK or LP? I tried both with no success in either folder. As far as it completing boot before animation completes, do you have more than 1 "part" folder? If so, make sure all "part" folders (part0, part1, part2.....) run only 1 time. Your last "part" folder should repeat, but not infinitely (do not set to 0 for loop number). If your animation is excessively long, try increasing frame rate to play faster.
Would you please walk me through the process you went through to install your animation? Also, what are your settings in "desc.txt" file? As well as the size of each image in your "part" folders? Are your images .png or .jpg? I'm wondering if maybe my image resolution is not high enough for this screen....

Are your images .png or .jpg? I'm wondering if maybe my image resolution is not high enough for this screen....

I'm not to sure about what file type haven't looked as I didn't make it myself. I haven't edited the desc file yet. Also I'm stock kk. I used es file explorer with root explorer turned on copied the bootanimation to system/media, and the poweron.ogg file to system/media/sounds/ui. Set permissions to r-w-rr, and rebooted. Also if you need to find the files types you can find the boot animation I'm using here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/themes-apps/bootanimation-android-5-0-l-boot-t2814467
It's watch dogs by kachow I do believe.
