Mac OS: Android file transfer not working - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm having an issue with the file transfer. I can see both internal memory and SD, but when i tried to drag and drop from Finder it is giving me an error, saying my screen is locked (even when it isn't) and asking me to reconnect. anyone else have this problem?
This was extremely annoying because I would try to transfer say an album and then it would get like 2 songs on there but not the rest saying my screen is locked please disconnect etc....i tried that but did not work.
please help as the only machines i have our macs.
thanks,

I don't understand. i am dragging the files from finder to the android app into a specific folder...

I get the same error. Try double-clicking the folder you want to drag your files into (in Android File Manager) and drag your files from Finder into that rather than trying to drag files into a folder with the root directory showing.

How do you guys even get it to see your phone?
On my computer, it just sits there and freezes if I have the phone plugged in when I start the app. if it isnt plugged in, it tells me to plug the phone in and freezes. When i switched the phone to PTP, it doesnt detect it, though it does pop up in iphoto. Any suggestions? I have been shuttling files with a micro-sd card lol!

Best way is to use Kies Air with the mac... transfer them wirelessly.

How do I do that? It is mp3's.
I heard of double twist with air Sync and easy phone tunes but haven't tried either of them.
Has anyone?

Android File Transfer has not been operational between Android and MAC os --at all-- since the Jelly Bean release.

[Q](SOLVED) Personal Audio files

Hi All,
I've taken a look around and can't seem to find anything relating to this so I'm gona ask.
I've just got my DHD and love it but I have never used Android before so it's taking some getting used to. ( I'll get there I'm sure )
My question is I have an MP3 file I'd like to use for my notifications ( comes from my HTC Touch HD ) but for the life of me I can't seem to put it in the media folder that the DHD uses. I can find it using the ES file search thing but it won't let me copy in to it?
Do I need to get admin rights? Rooting or whatever its called?
Sorry if it's a daft question. but its annoying the bejesus outa me.
Thanks in advance
JD
I think you have got to place the mp3 in a folder on the root of your sdcard called "notifications".
Hope that works!
Hi CD993,
Thanks for the reply but..
I can't find any folders on the sdcard other than the ones i've made from having it in my Touch HD.
I can however find the Notifications folder in audio on the phones memory. This has all the MP3's that the phone uses. But still I can't paste to it. Just says copy failed.
I'm just wondering if I need to "jailbreak it" or root....something something to be able to add to the root folders.
put your phone in settings, connect to pc,select disc drive now your computer willl see your sdcard as a drive look at your my computer and either go into my mobile at the bottom or go into the sdcard on my computer it comes up as Idrive as copy your mp3 file into your mobile here disconnect your mobile and search for it in your mp3 files through your media music app.you may have to reboot your mobile once disconnected from the computer so the file gets noticed.
if this is not what your looking for then sorry but I dunno.
Hi Magpie,
Thanks but no.
I already have the MP3 on the sdcard but I can't seem to copy it to the system/media/audio/notifications. This is where the phone reads the sounds that it plays when you receive email/txt etc.
Maybe I should just flash a new ROM although this appears harder than it is with the touch HD on winmo lol
Thanks for the reply anyways
JD
Edit:
I've since managed to Root the phone "give me root admin rights" but still am unable to copy files to the phones root folders.
Im sure you just put the mp3's in a folder on your sdcard called notifications e.g. sdcard/notifications/ringtone.mp3

Hi CD993,
Maybe there is a problem with my sdcard? I don't have such a folder on it. I have a music folder data folders google folders I've looked through them all and can't find a notifications folder on the sdcard?
Should the DHD be using the sdcard as its main source for audio etc?
SdCard/Sounds/Notifications
SdCard/Sounds/Alarms
SdCard/Sounds/Ringtones
SdCard/Sounds/UI
Make the folders as you need them. Then you will be able to find them in the Sounds tab in the menu.

If you have root access you should be able to write them to the main memory using a program like Root Explorer. You can find system sounds in /System/Media/Audio.

Flashing Android ROMs is so much easier than WM. It's getting the root that is the *****. It took me ages to work out how to install the ADB drivers when I first got my Desire.
Flashing ROM's just replaces two folders, so if you are updating from one AOSP ROM to another, maybe even Sense I don't know I don't use it, generally speaking you don't need to wipe the phone and you keep all of your apps.

Hi Kal,
Yes as far as I'm aware I have root perms. i used VISIOnary? and followed a thread on here When I open cmd promt or whatever its called on linux and type su it gives me the # which apparantly means i have rooted it?
Yet I was unable to copy to that folder on the phones main memory.
That ADB driver I'm afraid i've not even looked into it yet all I know is my win 7 failed to install it when I plugged the phone in for the first time.
I've gotten as far as using titanium back up for apps etc. Just need to do some more research I guess I'm new to android
anyway thanks for all your help people. i'm sure i'll have more questions in the appropriate threads as time goes by. Thanks all

Personal Audio Files for Yahoo! Mail
Everything you all have said works, if I put something in mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications I am able to then see the files under the Sounds Setting.
My issue is needing Yahoo Mail to see the notification. For that I need to copy the files to /system/media/audio/notification and for that I am not able to change the permissions. I have tried ES File Explorer and I am not even able to move up from sdcard. I have also tried total commander and I get "Error writing to target file! /system/media/audio/notifications/yahoo.mp3
Can someone please help. I really like the Yahoo! application.
Setting Yahoo Notification
Root explorer will allow you to change the directory from Read Only to Read Write. It can be purchased from Play (Market) or acquired by other means as I did.
Copy the file to /system/media/audio/notification using root explorer.
Reboot.
Tada...

[Q] USB connection issue/Files and Folders Invisible

Hi everyone, I'm having a real problem when connecting my LTE GNexus to the computer. I wanted to copy the TitaniumBackup folder to my desktop then replace it with the one I copied over from my old Droid Incredible, but when I look at the TitaniumBackup folder on the internal storage of my Nexus, it shows as empty, containing zero files. This is impossible, as I've done a backup already and even checked with ES File Explorer that all of the backup files ARE in fact present within the folder. However, the folder appears as empty on my PC and when I copy it, only copies an empty folder.
Furthermore, I then deleted the ENTIRE TitaniumBackup folder via ES, and the computer then showed the folder was gone (so it it's not like it's not reacting to changes made). I then redid the backup, which recreated and populated a new TitaniumBackup folder, but when I plugged it back in to my PC, the new folder didn't even SHOW UP. So now I have an entire folder that for some reason is completely invisible to the PC.
I don't know if this an issue caused by the Nexus or ICS specifically, the MTP protocol it uses to connect (instead of USB mass storage), or maybe even Titanium Backup. All other folders appear to be visible and the files inside are present (to my knowledge). What in the world is going on?!
PS: Please don't just give me a workaround for the current situation like "just upload it to Dropbox". I need to know how to fix this bigger issue for future use. Though if someone could recommend to me a way to upload whole folders to the cloud somewhere (Dropbox, Gmail, anything that allows me to pull it down via a PC) that would obviously be appreciated, as every app seems to only want to upload individual files, even the new DB. THANK YOU!
Hi,
I just had the same issue with the TitaniumBackup folder not showing up in windows explorer after the first backup.
Restart of the phone helped!
Cheers
Simon
its MTP, this has been bugging me too, but for now i got a workaround (i know...)
get SDrescan, its free. it will force your phones media storage to rescan your files. once you do, you'll see your files appear in the explorer. rebooting your phone also triggers this
Thanks everyone! Man, MTP sucks...

SDRescan did not work for me. Sits there forever saying "preparing" (I did let it sit for 30 min).
So, is there any solution for that?
Missing many files/folders on MTP.
This is really ****ting me up the [email protected] wall. I've trie everything, even sdrescan does **** all. Why does this issue exist and why the **** has't it been fixed
Using wifi, I've worked around it by using some of the features in AirDroid (sets up a web server on your GNex and you can login via a web interface on your PC). File Expert can also talk to windows shares on the same wifi network, I've used this to move around some large files as well.
I'm also having this issue, I've already tried fix permissions in recovery, did a symlink (not sure if I did it correct though) and now I'm trying sdrescan.
I'm thinking of going back to cyanogenmod backing up my entire sdcard to pc flash jelly bean and put back every file...
Cause pictures I've taken with Jelly bean are showing up in the gallery and via usb, so i'm guessing copying everything back to it will do the trick.
Most annoying thing is I can flash a new rom whenever and where ever I want and be able to fix my issues, but this sdcard thing is way out of my league...
I find a solution here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28606823&postcount=21
Hope it fixed the problem, I had exactly the same one
Easy workaround : in the app X-plore file manager, long-press on your TitaniumBackup folder, choose "Create Zip", then Ok (doesnt matter where you put the zip, you will cancel/delete it soon)
Voilà! My files appeared instantly in Windows as soon as X-Plore started creating the zip file. So, cancel that dialog, and enjoy your titanium backup files.

Restart phone as previously stated. Worked for me too. :good:
Reboot didn't worked for me.
I tried through ES File Explorer to copy the Titanium folder in my computer via LAN.When it started copying files, then the folder magically showed its content. Then transferred via MTP as it's a lot faster than 802.11g.
Hope someone finds it helpful.

Can't see files

I can access my Clockwork Mod files via my Gnex, but they are not accessible when trying to copy to my PC. I see the device, I can see the CWM folder, but no backup folder exists. I can see everything else on the device. Tried coping the files to the root with no success. I have been able to access this files in the past.
Ideas?
I haven't had a problem specifically with CWM files, but changing the folder options on my PC (inside the Galaxy Nexus folders) to "show hidden files" usually did the trick...

Small chance, but look in your "clockworkmod" folder and its subfolders and see if there are a file called ".nomedia" which would cause the folder contents to be hidden when connected to the PC in MTP mode.
You can also use the app AirDroid to transfer files through WiFi.

I'm pretty sure that's a solution to the opposite problem. Hence, the files are showing up on the computer and phone file manager, but not in the apps. The .nomedia file tells the apps not to scan the specific folder they're sitting in. For example, yesterday my friends Galaxy Mini wasn't showing any pics in the gallery app or music in the music app, even though they clearly existed on the phone (via file manager and when hooked up to the PC). Deleted the .nomedia file and <insert sound effect here (I.E."BAM!"> all was good.

Try Local Sync, it easy and fast.
Thanks
Thanks. Local Sync doesn't seem to be much quicker. Can't find the option to sync one folder only, so it is syncing my entire CWM folder.
Question still stands why the heck I can't see those files via my PC.

Have tried reboots o both PC and phone. Also tried a different PC. Very strange that i can see everything else.
I could try to restore from a previous CWM backup and see if I am able to copy.
Any luck using adb?

Can't see files from computer

So I downloaded the latest Nav Images for my car while I was on the road today and I was planning on burning them to update my system. The only problem is when I connected my Verizon Galaxy Nexus to my Windows machine I can't find the files I downloaded. I can see them on the phone in Astro, but when I look using Windows Explorer I go to the same folders and there isn't anything there! It shows as empty. Any suggestions? I could upload each one individually to Drive and back down to my PC but that seems like it would take FOREVER!
Fix permissions may help

you can use Trickster Mod's media scanner
I probably should have mentioned I'm not rooted. I pulled the files on my work phone. They are .rar files if that makes a difference.
Id tether the comp to the phone and download them that way instead of uploading them.
I am connected to the computer. I can see every file in my phone EXCEPT the .rar files I am looking for. Its so weird.

No I meant tether your comp to the phone for internets, then download them on the comp. Instead of having to upload them first and then download them.

Problems renaming files & folders from Windows

Hello everyone. I plug my phone to my Windows 8 running computer, and whenever I try to rename a folder or a file, explorer seems to be stop working, then I plug off my phone eventually and explorer.exe restarts. I'm sick of this problem, isn't there anything we can do about this?

Might be a driver issue(?) Try installing kies :/
Oh, sorry to mention that. I already installed kies, and I'm sure that this is not a driver issue. In addition, I'm using Android Revolution HD 19 with Perseus. Switching kernels doesn't affect.
I have this problem too. If you want to rename from pc just enter the memory card on its own otherwise rename folder/file from phone.
