has anyone else experienced problems when turning off the mobile data and the phone not reconnecting properly.
i disconnect mobile data during the day to extend my battery. When I do this, sometimes it reconnects properly, and other times i am not able to receive calls/make calls or send/receive text messages. The phone still shows in 4g and has full bars, but im not able to figure out its not reconnected until i try to make a call, which it doesnt allow me to do.
This is my second sgs3 now since my first did the exact same thing, and i thought it was just a faulty phone. anyone else experience this?
help please.
I had similar issues and I have called at&t 2 times. They asked me to turn my phone off for 5 minutes after which they re inserted my phone id in lte mapping... And they told me to call back if any similar issues arise

Hi all,
I recently discovered that my phone is not maintaining the network connection once I end a call. Whenever I end a call I can visibly watch the bars deplete. I set a numeric indicator for signal strength and I watch it go from -85 while on a call to -113. The bars at this point are completely gone and any calls made to my device go straight to voicemail.
One quirk is that I am able to reconnect, and maintain the connection with the network simply by triggering and subsequently disabling airplane mode. This of course only works until the next call has been completed, wherein the signal strength dies again.
I should mention I am running cm9 which was flashed using cmw. I've heard about the same thing happening with stock nexus devices, but was curious if anyone else has had similar experiences?
Thanks for any and all insights,
Well now this is a little strange, but I've found a way to stop the signal from being lost. All I have to do is restrict my device to 2g networks. This would normally be unacceptable, but I don't actually have a data plan as I'm a wifi only guy.
My imei was wiped when I flashed cwm using Odin, so I wonder if this may have something to do with the issue. Maybe others with borked imeis experience something similar...
I'd still like to see what others may think on the matter despite the work around.

Ive had my note 2 now for about a month now and the phone itself has been great. During the first week I experienced horrible signal but that has all stopped recently. I now get 4g everywhere I go around my home and work.
But.. one problem persists. Missing missed call notifications and delayed voice mails. This has been going on since I got the phone and I though it was only a wifi calling bug until today.
Multiple people have called me and left a voice mail which I will only receive once I use my phone. Ie: text/make a call. No missed call notification shows up but I will receive texts and voicemails once I actively use my phone.
I have done tests with wifi calling where my phone would be charging for a few hours and a call would go straight to voicemail. Also pinging my phone yields a 1k+ms ping response and then normal 50ms which leads me to beleive the phone goes into some sort of sleep state and has to be actively on the network to receive any call or text. I thought it was just wifi calling but now its happening without being connected to wifi.
Does anyone have any information on this type of problem?

I had the issues you described with wifi calling. It was so unreliable that I stopped using it. On the regular cell connection I no longer miss calls.
I wish using regular cell was reliable as the coverage is great in my area. But after yesterday's problem I can't trust it anymore.
I'm back to using wifi calling and im using an app called wake lock to keep the wifi connected, as the normal no sleep when wifi setting doesn't work in the settings.
It has been 12 hours and the wifi calling icon hasn't disappeared. I've received emails and texts as well. Hopefully this can be a permanent at home solution. I wonder what causes the cell network to just drop and stay unconnected while the phones on lock though.

Are you using ant task killers or battery saving apps? They can turn off your data and so many other processes, they do more harm than good.

I have no battery saving apps, all i use is the stock task manager for ending tasks.
UPDATE:
WiFi calling with wake lock seemed to work most of the day. I received many texts and calls from at least 5 different people over the coarse of the day. But then... I go in my garage and lose wifi signal and the phone doesn't connect to a tower and i miss someone trying to call me. Same deal.. no missed call notification and they said it just goes straight to VM without ringing. I write it off as not a big deal as long as the rest of my house wifi calling allows me to miss nothing.
I sleep for a few hours and i wake up and hit my lock screen. The screen flashes on and it shows the WiFi calling symbol.. then lags and flashes to it being gone. I then use my house phone to call it and of course.. no ringing.. straight to VM. I have also received no emails/texts during this time.
I open the battery usage and during the last 15 hours or so there are small increments of signal loss. The whole bar is yellow which isnt great but should still work. But there are small slivers missing completely, and they are identical to the WiFi usage as well. Both show the same 0 signal at the same time.
I'm at my wits end with this problem.. i have tried just about everything from factory reset, SIM reset, using WiFi calling on both my router bands, using settings to keep WiFi on when phones charging. The problem persists on 4g and WIFI. Currently I'm set to GSM only to test this issue using EDGE.
The odd thing is my brother has the same phone and although he reported a few missed calls via wifi calling, nothing as serious as my issue of several blocks of time with 0 signal at all.
I noticed the new update rolling out changes the baseband.. would this do anything to fix any issues with connectivity? Ive read numerous people with this issue using various phones/carriers and the only fix seemed to be getting a new phone number. I hope this isn't the case.
I think you might need a microcell
I'm not sure if that would really help. Like I said I have above average coverage at my house. I never had a problem with my vibrant and the other 2 lines dont have problems. This morning I flashed jedi x7 and I now have a 3g and a H+ icon. I notice that im 95% on 3g and it sporadically switches to H+ randomly for only a few seconds. Also as about 6 hours have past, my network signal in battery usage is a solid bar with no signal loss. Time will tell if that stays true.
One other thing of note, if I perform a speed test when it's on 3g.. I ping 1k+ but pull around 15mbit. When H+ is up before I start the test I ping under 100 and pull 15mbit. Perhaps the constant switching is causing me to disconnect from the tower for brief moments.

Occasionally, my outbound calls will end up completely garbled. When it happens, it happens on every call from that point forward until i reboot, then it's fine. I've tried toggling airplane mode as a quick fix, but that didn't work. It happens when i'm at home and calling via my MicroCell AND on the road when making calls via the towers.
It seems to happen after checking my voicemail. I switched from AT&T's visual voicemail to YouMail and it still happens once in awhile.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for debugging?
Thanks
Any issues I have had like that with S3 have been a direct result of being connected to the MCell. Normally I just power cycle the MCell and it clears up the issue. I do have not had it happen to me when connected go a cell tower.
I thought it was an mcell issue, but I've switched to google voice for voicemail and have not had any problems since.

Both my wife and I have pixel 3's, I have the XL and she has the regular. Both were preordered and delivered at the same time, and we are both on AT&T. Since the beginning we have experienced random issues such as the phone dropping mobile data completely even though the signal shows LTE , and having to cycle airplane mode off and then on again to get data back. The other issue is that we both experienced call issues where our end would drop and we could not hear the other party, but they could hear us fine.
I think I may have traced these issues to WiFi causing the problems. When the data drops, I notice that my wifi is on and occurs when I am not connected to wifi (such as an unidentified network) and on LTE, or when I leave a connected WiFi area (like my house) and keep wifi on. We would have to cycle airplane mode to fix this.
For the calls, I had a call drop yesterday and when I looked at the notification bar it showed connected to wifi. I immediately turned off wifi and the call came right back. I thought this was an AT&T wifi calling issue, so I turned off wifi calling. Today, I was at the post office and had to make a call. Soon after connecting, the call dropped. I checked wifi and it showed unidentified network (not connected), so I turned off wifi. The call immediately came back.
So now, wifi is completely useless to my wife and I. Assuming I don't experience any more dropped data or calls, I cant use wifi to ensure good call quality and constant data.
Anyone else experience this? Could this be an RMA issue? Seems weird that it is happening to both phones. Is there a setting we should turn off that could be causing this?
i have a similar problem where if i am on wifi, when i get off wifi my lte or h+ will show bars but have a small x in the bars. i have to cycle airplane mode to get data back after i switch wifi off. i may just make a tasker task to do this.
i had a call from an s9 yesterday where i could hear them but they couldnt hear me. i think i was on wifi. we tried 2-3 times but he couldnt hear me. when i switched to my google voice phone number and called him, he was able to hear me fine.
there is another thread around here about similar issues. i might try to get a new sim card since this one is almost 9 years old.

I may have started that original thread a while ago, but since it was more focused on the data drop thing I created a new thread to help narrow the conversation towards the wifi issue. I went to ATT when I first had the data drop issue and got a brand new sim so it is definitely not that.
