CM9 question - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Okay so i flashed CM9 and everything is going well... but the only issue i have is the back light on the soft keys... the home, notification, back, and the search. the back light of the soft keys doesnt turn on for a while when i press the power button. it probably takes 30 seconds. not really a big issue but i want to know if there's a way to fix this. Thanks in advance.

Keyboard Backlight controller (a free app in the Play Store) might be what you are looking for. It keeps the back lights either on or off for your softkeys, but i don't know about how to use it so they shut off after a certain period of time.
I used this app on my Galaxy Ace and it worked like a charm, same on my friend's HTC One V, but i have no used it on my SII X yet (just got it )
Anyway, I hope this can help you, because besides that I have no clue

my power button will not turn off the phone. 9 times out of 10 it ends up bringing up the power menu. are there any apps that you can remap the volume keys to be the power button? i'm on a rooted evo. any help would be awesome! thanks
Holding power button wont bring up the option to turn the devoce off?
Omg rly?

Ok I didn't mean shut down the phone, I meant put it to sleep...
I know there is an issue with my power button. Even when I do a battery pull and put it back in the phone restarts on its own because the power button is stuck down.

Just shooting from the hip here, but do you have the "stay awake" option clicked on? I've never used it, so I'm not sure if the power button makes the screen turn off or not.
Nope its not on "stay awake" mode. It will shut off every now and then... maybe 1 or 2 times out of 10

Probably goes in the Q&A forum for future reference.
Try a different ROM if you're rooted, and be sure to do a full wipe. Not wiping can cause some really weird problems.
If that doesn't fix it, it could be a bad power button and should be under warranty.

this wont work. i had the same exact thing happen to me. it started after sprint replaced my screen cause it was cracked. it ws okay at first then just progressively got worse and worse. yesterday i couldnt make the phone wake up or anything. the power/sleep button was just useless.
i did the stock ruu.exe and it didnt do squat. i took it to sprint today and i will be getting another phone by thursday or friday cause they said it was unrepairable.
OP: just flash it back to stock and take it to sprint.
well i found out a fix. there is an app in the market called ButtonRemapper. Its a really cool app. it allows you to remap any hardware or software buttons to do pretty much anything. you have to be rooted. i have been lookin for this even before my power button bit the dust. so now my up volume key is my power button. you can remap keys to be the camera also which is what is sorely lacking on the evo. i guess good things can come out of problems! thanks for all the responses though!

Lost virtual buttons

I've had the phone for two days now and this has happened 3 times now.
The worst one was I got a phone call but the keyboard was up and the back button wasn't there to get rid of it. So I couldn't answer the phone.
One time I couldn't exit the settings menu because the buttons disappeared.
To remedy I turn off the display, turn it back on and unlock to the camera. I think because the camera has the special hidden buttons it causes the phone to refresh the button display otherwise I couldn't find another way to do it.
Has this happened to others? I haven't seen threads about it.

I lost them once but got them back by turning the phone sideways and then back upright once the buttons reappeared.

Oh wow, yea, that would probably work too. But some apps lock to portrait (dialer).

Happened to me while I was playing a game (Reckless Gateway) and received a call at the same time. After the call, soft buttons wouldn't appear anymore, had to restart my phone
I have only lost the buttons when flashing a mod that was not compatible...in that situation I did not have the virtual buttons or the notification bar at all.
Never happened to me on stock or rom. What build/android is your phone? You can find info in settings>about phone

This has happened to me a couple times while using Google Nav. I just pulled down the notification bar and hit the settings button - that seemed to bring the buttons back. Strange issue.
Just a few kinks that need ironing out.. hopefully Google is aware of minor bugs like this already

Yep, exactly. Though I wouldn't call this minor because it made me miss a call.
Another thing I just noticed. Go into an app that has the menu virtual button (the three dots) then turn off the screen. Turn it back on and the menu button will be the only virtual button on the Lock Screen. You can press it and automatically unlock the phone. I'm using slide to unlock and the news and weather app to do this every time.
Edit: Just tried with a different lock (pattern) and the menu button will not unlock. But it is still there and you can press it. It just does nothing. Weird.

[Q] Help - HTC One X physical touch buttons stopped working

Hi folks. Today I experienced a strange behavior with my phone. The physical touch buttons at the bottom of the screen stopped working. I have tried installing other launchers but that did not solve the problems. It seems like a hardware failure. Can anyone help with ideas to solve this issue? Thanks
UPDATE: I pressed all three buttons simultaneously and they now seem to work fine. Hope this is a solid solution.
Hi
I have the same problem with my device but pressing all 3 buttons simultaneously does not work.
What is the exact process you followed when pressing the buttons? were in you in a specific screen or app when you did this? or perhaps you held the buttons for an extended period?
Thanks
Probably a general android bug, had this on my old nexus one and a reboot always sorted it

do a factory reset(back up your stuff first) then if the buttons are still not working then try to press all of them at once. that should definitely work.
thanks but nothing seems to work. The bottom bit of the screen (just above the buttons) is also not working so I've sent it back in
hopefully i get a working one soon!
i have the same problem with extras ((
bottom buttons not working, none of the three. when i try to press back or menu, sometimes nothing happens and sometimes i press above, like menu at home page. And also when i try touching them after a while the phone gets crazy, and starts to make strange things like entering some apps, switching between them, taking screen shots (normally i do not know how to do it), beeping, and going on like this without stopping. if i can press power of, it stops, otherwise it goes on himself.
My device is original , original rom without root, or something else. i just install apps from market thats all.
Please help me, now i can not use my phone
I had a similar problem, it was a hardware fault.
Couldn't use the hardware buttons anymore and the 1st centimeter above the buttonskeys was living his own life.
Friday I brought my phone back (unlocked) to a HTC service center near me and today (Monday) !! I got it back, repaired with a new LCD screen (all under warranty).
The positive side is that I have no scratches anymore in my screen, 1st thing i'm going to do is buying a screen protector.
Hi.
Same problem, physical buttons on bottom does not work.
The story:
Left my phone with my son for 3 days, came back, got phone back with buttons not working any more.
(Homer Simpson struggling Bart mode on).
Naturally, my son got no idea what happened etc.
Sent it back to HTC on warranty, they picked it up last friday, and I already got it back.
Reason for fault was water damage (got pictures attached from htc).
(Homer Simpson struggling Bart mode on).
UNREPAIRABLE as HTC states.
Problem is, buttons are ONLY thing which does not work. Everything else works fine, touchscreen, camera, etc etc.
As I went and read few forums, seems that there's some connection lost between physical buttons, and mainboard, is that correct?
Finally my question - If I will replace whole front panel (LCD + panel with buttons), would it be possible to make it work again?
Brand new complete front panels are like 40GBP on ebay...
(I will not be trying to replace buttons only, as I read, it is a bit more difficult...)
Help?
Install a ROM which has on screen buttons. You won't even notice the cap. buttons after a couple o' days especially if you switch off the lights.
And they are totally customizable - you can have up to 5 buttons if you want.
Cost: 0 (zero) GBP.
PS. Don't strangle your son LOL

Hi Guys.
Got my HOX wet when hiking, and now my three buttons are dead.
I am running Venom 3.7.7 and have found Button Savior (search on the market) is a perfect replacement for the broken back/home buttons.
Good luck to all who have the same problem.

[Q] My One X sometimes has trouble "waking up", has anyone else had this?

I have recently encountered a problem with my hox, where, if I press the power button, the screen doesn't awake. It's a little weird, because the back home app switcher buttons do light up if it is dark enough around me and, after pushing them a few times, the volume buttons respond as well.
I haven't fully tested it, but it seems like when I wait like a minute or so, maybe more, the screen does finally wake up. I have also held the power button several times to restart it while it was like this and then the screen doesn't light up until the sim unlock screen pops up.
I have yet to factory reset the phone etc., but I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem. I have looked around the internet, but was unsure what to search for.

Are u using sweep to wake?, that sometimes causes this problem
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Nope, I do not have sweep to wake.
Well, after a while of being okay, the issue is showing up again. If I press the power button it does wake the phone somehow (back, home, tasks lights light up, volume can be altered), but the screen wont come on. And when it's one of those rare moments that it does turn on the UI flies everywhere, making it literary uncontrolable, until at some point the screen just turns itself off.
I am not running any custom things, everything is stock. I tried a factory reset without erasing the SD storage. I also have just sent an email to HTC, but it being weekend and all I still have to wait a day or two.
Any other things I could try?
Never had this problem with the HOX.
Only with Xperia Arc and X10 when a heavy task ran in the background

Hi, I was wondering what did you do regarding the lockscreen problem. I'm having exactly the same problem here. I've already done a factory reset but it did not solve the issue. From time to time I'm not able to unlock the phone.
Please HELP!!!
It sometimes happens to me, recently after clearing the clock and weather apps and widgets. I don't know what it is.

[Q] Home Button not waking up phone?

I've been having this issue and its been happening to me on stock, CM10 and ktoons rom as well.
Just randomly when i want to wake my phone up using the home button, it does nothing, or the buttons for menu and back lit up but the screen is black.
Sometimes if i hold home long enough it will show the lock screen or if i use the power button its fine.
Ive just switched over to the S3 from an iPhone so im really used to pressing home to unlock the phone.
Anyone else having this issue? Ive searched around alot of people have lag issues but i haven't seen one like mine yet.

Ok i thought so, sorry for creating a topic on it. on stock it happened it to me a few times as well though.
i just wanted to make sure it wasn't faulty.
I used to be able to just hit the home button twice and it would work but lately it's just a black screen no matter how many times. Using tasks ROM. I'm getting used to using the power button
