Hey guys. Does anybody have problems with data dropping? I have good service all bars but it just goes real slow then it goes back to regular speeds by itself. I tried different radios and roms but it does the sane. Could it be the phone?

That's definatly throttling. Call tmobile and they'll tell you.
Sent from my SGH-T989
I called t mobile they did something. But I asked the guy if I was being throttled. He replied possibly but can not gurauntee that to you. However I do have unlimited data! Unless that is seperate from throttling? He did something cause now it is much better

still sounds like throttling to me
specially the part that it got better, after talking to CSR and the guy adjusted something for you

Ya it works perfectly. But does throttling have something to do with unlimited data? Because I am paying for unlimited data then why throttle me?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
The problem is that tmobile will throttle you when you exceed 2 gb on the unlimited plan. They did this to try and curb those that were downloading movies and music over their network. If you have a grandfathered plan, it's at 5 gb. I know its misleading and wrong, but they will hopefully kill this next month as they promised. If your data usage does go over the 2 gb limit though, they will reduce your speed. They call their plan unlimited because you can still use data, just much slower...

Unlimited is not unlimited high speed. You have a limit of high speed.

Yeah, limited unlimited.
same in Canada
it's unlimited data, it's all you can eat buffet
but the highspeed is limited to whatever you purchased with your plan, once it's over, you only get mostly text and websites without media contents, don't expect to see any streaming video after that
Won't have to worry about this for long. Getting the nationwide unlimited 4g plan on Sept. 5

Hello there, I finally started using my data agressively and I'm curious what my plan actually means. I was able to get grandfathered into an "unlimited " plan, but I've heard things about 5 gb caps and whatnot. So I figured a forum full of flashaholics and hardcore data users would be able to tell me more. Is there a cap with an unlimited plan? And if so, what happens when I go over it? I appreciate any answers

I think when they say 5gb cap, that means they start slowing down your data speeds not stop your data or charge you more. If they did that'd be violation of contract I would think.

yes why would it not be able to?
If you are looking to save money but still want 4g speeds, check out the t mobile value plans..
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Packages/ValuePackages.aspx
my contract is up in december and i will most likely go with the 500 min, unlimited text, unlimited data (2gb 4g included) for only 49.99$
right now i have a classic plan with them, unlimited minutes text and data with 2gb of 4g included and i pay 78$. checked my bill the last three months and i never go over 500 minutes... so yea
HOWS THE 3G SPEED after u pass the 2gb
Yes, works fine. I'm on the 5gb 4g data, unlimited texts and 100 minutes for $30 a month and don't have any complaints. I haven't gone past the 5GB yet so don't know how the throttled speeds will be.

But a month after purchasing my galaxy s 3 and signing a 2 year contract for the unlimited plan, t-mobile decides to make the 30 dollar 5G data unlimited text 100 minute plan to UNLIMITED data. And for me to switch it would cost approx 600 dollars -.-
Has anyone else seen this?

the $30 plan is not true(when are they ever) unlimited it caps you at 5GB 3g/4g and throttles you to EDGE once you get to 5GB. i've had this plan since the day it was introduced sometime fall of last year. its an ok plan if you dont rely on it as your only internet source or dont need minutes. i use skype and have wifi at home so it works for me. but i do reach the cap more often than not.

I'm a bit confused by the OP, why would it cost $600 to break your contract and switch to the prepaid plan?
(I understand that you're no longer interest in switching since you found that the plan is capped but I'm still curious about this point)

on verizon ATM and wanting to get back on att - looking to see if the loop hole still working on att since i have unlimited data on verizon atm. i was told i need an iphone 2g and need to activate the via itunes and pick unlimited data /200 txt and then call nd upgrade unlimited data to the 4g unlimited data - can anyone point me in the correct direction or let me know if it STILL works? thanks
From what I have read that no longer works.
I got all the way to finding an old 2g several months ago. Reading at that time the loophole had been closed. If it has reopened I may look into an un activated sim and give it a try.

When do they begin to throttle your data speeds? AT&T is 5GB (thank god today started a new billing cycle)..
I read on Slashdot that att doesn't track port 53 (dns) traffic.. To cheat you could in theory just get a tiered plan and do all Web traffic through a port 53 proxy....

Recently I have been getting an extremely unreliable 4g connection and my 3g connection isn't much better. I called Sprint several times but they offered me no resolution except to "feel free to roam until we fix the towers in your area". So I turned off 4g and set my phone to automatically allow roaming. This month I had to download nearly 80 GB of images off of a cloud service because my subscription was about to expire. Right now my only internet connection is through my phone, so I tethered it to my PC in order to download the files.
It turns out I was roaming the entire time and I have roamed around 97.4 GB in my most recent billing cycle. Do you think they are going to terminate my contract? Or do you think I will get off with a warning?

I was actually getting unusually fast 3g speeds. I think I was roaming on Verizon's network and there is a tower very close to me.
If you were in Europe your carrier would charge you a mere $237,000 dollars for that!

I say this because extreme roaming data usage will grab attention and they will sort through IP's, just letting you know that as it just happened to my cousin. He hit 78G in data roaming and they found out he was using his phone for PC gaming while on vacation. And yep he is paying for it right now.
How is that even possible? I've been told if over half of your usage is roaming you will be disconnected. Even though Sprint claims roaming is unlimited.

it's in terms and conditions of the contact. They hold the right for excessive roaming.
And if they determine that you're tethering without paying, they'll claim fraud.
Not that I care, just the lil lady works for sprint and sees it frequently.

I thought they weren't allowed to annoy you about using tethering apps without paying for it?
Wasn't there a court case on this a while ago?
that case was for blocking apps. doesn't mean you don't still have to adhere to TOS and pay for tethering.

Doubt it. The Sprint website says you have unlimited roaming 3g so the amount roaming should be irrelevant. Don't admit to tethering.

You don't get what I am saying... If you do not pay for tethering, and your use this much data, they could charge you for the data used.
I don't see how you think it is okay to use that amount of data tethering to another device when you do not pay for tethering on your account.

Oh no they'll cancel you contract when you don't pay that big bill. But yes you will have to pay for services rendered which is tethering and data used beyond the 5gigs given for tethering.
But like I said earlier carriers are not stupid and they will come after you and they know places lime this and could link your statement here as proof bit they really won't need that once they drop the IP bomb that will tell them what devices where used via your phone. Trust me they can tell but no system.is bullet proof so they cannot block it as some apps pull info via desktop browsers calls and a blanket block would kill those. So they just tag all the over the top users, especially when roaming is envolved.
