Hello,
a while ago, i removed the Google Search Bar, using a mod i had found.
Now, i need this google search bar back. I have tried to re-flash the .zip file again, and i have tried to
restore my Galaxy Nexus, with an nandriod backup. Although, none of this has worked.
When i re-flash the .zip file:
I get a error message reporting that "Launcher has stopped working," and from there i cannot do anything.
When i restore Galaxy Nexus with nandroid backup:
The phone boots up normally, although the Google Search bar is not found.
I have even tried to go to Settings>Apps but i cannot locate the Google Search Bar anywhere.
HELP is GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thank you.
Hello, since I believe you have removed the google search bar apk, have you tried to wipe and flash one of the various ROMs in the development section?
Afaik, the search bar isn't a separate system app.
Did you do a full wipe in CWM before restoring?

Sounds like you modded the launcher. You need to either re-flash your rom or take the original launcher2.apk out of the rom zip and replace the one you have in /system/app/
@ephung23:
I flashed the XENONHD - Jellybean ROM, but the google search bar still wasnt there.
@Petrovski80:
Does this mean wiping cache partition in recovery mode?
I have already tried re-flashing the rom.
The thing is, that when i restore from a nandroid backup, i HAVE the google search bar! From BEFORE the mod i had flashed.
From there, when i "wipe cache partition", and then i flash the "XENON HD" ROM, i do NOT have the search bar.
This is the problem..
@djmcnz
How would i replace the file?
The System>App does not show up when i plug in my phone to the computer.
Is this something done in recovery mode?

You need root and a root explorer like ES Explorer (free on the Play Store) to see and write to /system/

Noob here. No longer a virgin after this post. Ok, I have been reading for weeks and have most of the basic understanding down on phone setup and flashing using ROM Manager/CWM but still having issues I can't find answers to so here goes.
Samsung Captivate running 2.2 flashed from ODIN one click. Backed up apps and data using TI backup. I have installed ROM Manager, picked the Dragon ROM to flash and here are my problems.
1. ROM Manager 4.2.0.2 - Pick Flash CWM Recovery- 2.5.1.2, pick captivate, "successfully downloaded CWM Recovery" (did not say "installed" CW Recovery). Where did it download to and how do I install? Its not in My Files. Some of the recovery options are missing when in Sys recovery <3e>and don't look like the options listed in posts.
A. Tried to backup current ROM with RManager - It gave me a stamped file name, said "backed up" within a few seconds but when I click "manage and restore backups" I just get a black screen. Can't find the backed up ROM nor the files listed on one of the posts??? I read it takes several minutes and the copied files scroll. This did not happen.
B. Install ROM from SD card - Everyone has said make sure the ROM is installed in the "root", but exactly which file are we talking about??. No one ever says which file exactly. I use Droid Explorer and there is a file named SD Card, then SD. Which file is the ROM to be installed in? No file called "root". I used SD file and renamed it update.zip. I click "install ROM from SD" then pick SD and the update.zip file, click all three options (B/U ROM, wipe data N cache, dalvik cache then ok. Phone reboots, click reinstall packages, ERROR: E:failed to verify whole file signature - E: signature verification failed, installation aborted.
2. I have read to reinstall 2.1 via ODIN before flashing new ROM's. Trying to flash "Dragon ROM RC7" "Full Flash" which is 2.2.1. Can I not just flash this over 2.2?
I know there is more. I was up till 2 last night and tried to get all issues posted here. Like I said, pretty new to the ROM thing but not a dummy and can follow instructions. Have read a ton but there is sooo much out there. If anyone can help me through this I would be very greatful. Hitting the frustration point real quick now.
Found this: ROM Mgr 4.2.0.2 "Samsung users: You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first." This could be one issue. Which kernal? Have not tried to flash any kernals yet. Still reading.
Same issue
I'm having the exact same issue. Tried install and uninstall, no go.
Which part did you have a problem with. I have resolved the CWM issue and the errors I was getting in recovery.
you should youtube a tutorial on how to do this... it will take 10 minutes to explain how to do it all and it would be easier than going back and forth through forum messages. google can be your friend also if you just use it. if you eff it up too bad you can always put your phone back into dl mode and odin it back to stock.
True, Google can be you're best friend but at the same time, I was able to find a detailed fix right on the forum. After another hour or so of searches. Just installed my second ROM yesterday and running great. Chose the Dragon ROM for the Captivate. It's Great!! and I happen to be a fan of Dragons!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
And for phone specific questions post them in the phones forum, though not in developers forum
i found that rom manager does not work for certain phones, period. i use odin and flash cwm 2.5.1 to my phone while in download mode. then i can use the 3 button combo to get into cwm,oh yeah and dont forget to back up your rom version once in cwm! i then wipe cache (user data) and delvic cache and batt stats. then i go into a folder i created on "root" (which i made on the sd card) i store my roms/kernels themes ect...in this folder i pick which rom to install "please do your homework" make sure u know which rom ect, is right for your phone, or u will have a nice shinny paperweight!!!
ok so, now your in your folder with the rom of choice, flash install from .zip let it install.......takes awhile just be patient. thats about all i can say. took me awhile but its well worth it, i have a way better understanding about everything now. hope it helps, i own the mesmerise and found rom manager is useless for this type of application so ditch it!
Tried installing a mod thru metamorph to put a background for the softkeys. Instead it DELETED the status bar and the soft keys. Now all that shows on the screen is the normal homescreen extended all the way past where the softkeys would be. Please tell me there's a fix for this.
*EDIT* I've wiped and installed a new rom. Still no dice.
COME ON ANYBODY!!!!!???????
Had the same problem after installing another ROM.
Restoring my backup solved the problem for me.

Sorry to bump this thread up!
But now i've got the same problem..
I'm running Jellybean 4.2.1 stock but recently rooted using the Gnex Toolkit (which is the eadiest thing!).
I've downloaded Rom Toolbox Pro via the Play Store and was checking out the possibilities of the app.
I saw the option to change the dpi from 320 to 240 at first, wich always looked nice on screenshots and such.
Then i was looking at the Theme Manager where i can change the status bar from stock to transparent and installed it in app.
After rebooting, suddenly my Status bar and my softkeys are gone...
After using the device without the back and home buttons, i did some research on it and found out my device needs to be deodexed before wanting to do it safe?!
I got no backups made, as stupid as i am, and tried installing all sorts of themes for the status bar..
The most obvious option to me is to wipe dalvik cache since that was said all over the internet.
I could really use some help on this, since i dont want to backup my pictures and music because im scared that when i do a wipe, all my data is lost -.-
I might sound stupid, but if there isnt any other option, i might install a different rom.

Since you're using the stock, you might want to try install the system.IMG you've downloaded via fastboot, wipe cache and dalvik via CWM (Assuming you have CWM installed), the same thing happen to me while installing mods, flashing system.img on top fixed it for me. The other solution is to flash another ROM, you might want to backup your apps via TB in case of both fails
EDIT: This is assuming than you've flashed to stock 4.2.1 via fastboot/toolkit, the easiest method to fix this by far is installing a ROM .zip in CWM, but if you want to stay stock for some reason you may want to try following EF Rant's return to stock guide and flashing everything BUT the userdata.img, instead you would have to boot CWM and then wiping cache/dalvik, or if it still doesn't boot, factory reset. It won't touch your picture and music, but back it up regardless to be safe.
Nav bar + status bar is related to SystemUI.apk, most likely the mod did not install properly, reflash the ROM zip.
Thanks guys for the quick repy!
Isn't there any way to reinstall the systemui.apk? I've tried clicking on it so it installs the apk but didnt work.
@reysonance: im gonna try the Factory Reset option. ill post an update as soon as i did the reset.
The only reason for me to root the device was so i could use the USB OTG option so i can place music on my carradio's usb using a file manager.
I dont know if i have clockwork mod on it, ill check it out tonight.
Thanks again!

Thank god the factory reset option worked for me! A huge thanks for this, reysonance!!!
Now i need to reinstall all my apps .. sigh .. but anyhow i can use my device again as it normally did
Thank you, This thread my be closed as far as my concern
Hello,
I am just starting with all romes and stuff.
I hope i am posting in the right place.
I got my ATT Samsung galaxy s3 a few days ago:
1. I have downloaded CWM6.0.1.2 on it with oding pulled the battery and went to recovery.
2. then installed CM10 stable (cm-10.0.0-d2att).
3.then installed gapps-ics-20120317-signed.
4. today i found this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965290&highlight=gapp and installed the Gapps from here according to the post (http://d-h.st/sPL , which is New ZIP by garner (JB-4.2-Gapps-signed.zip) (11/11/2012).
Now I have a problem:
After those steps. when ever I press the home button I receive a message "complete action using" options are LAUNCHER or TREBUCHET and then "always or just once"
If I choose TREBUCHET I receive my phone and my setting as usual.
If I choose LAUNCHER I receive a new phone as if I installed it again with the JB-4.2-Gapps-signed.zip
a few questions:
1. does anybody know what to do and how to resolve this?
2. which Gapp works with CM10?
3.I repeated from above, steps 2 and 4 hoping install ROM and gapps , and the same happens again (I have wiped everything in CWM). how can I whip or delete or format the phone to default so I can repeat the process again? (I think when I wipe in CWM and install the CM10 again some data remains like photos or I had a problem where i did not have camera on my phone i resolved it by installing the gallery2.apk from CM10 zip - that added me camera icon and gallery icon in the phone which i did not have before and now after every re installation of the ROM they are still there) so how can I start the process from beginning so all will be wiped ?
Thank you hope you can help me....

if u install CM10 alias Android 4.1.* than u don't can install that Gapps pack, it is for CM10.1 alias Android 4.2.1.
if u are safe in Android and what normal should be in ur Android /system partition, u can delete all apps from AROMA Filemanager.
but the safest way is u start from begin. go into cwm and do a factory reset. this erase all data. after that use the latest Gapps from goo.im for Android 4.1.*
Can you point me to gapp that is for CM10?
and also where can i find CM10.1 and his Gapps?

I think i can kinda help you
1.
Trebuchet and launcher are just different launchers for your phone, they provide you with different user interfaces. If trebuchet is the one that has all your settings then you can select that and select 'always' so it will autmatically do that when you press the home button. If you want to change it later you can always go to settings>applications>whatever launcher you are using>clear app defaults
2.
I'm not sure, maybe check back on the original cm10 thread and see what that says regarding GAPPS but I think you can also flash this package. Also, i believe CM10 is a jelly bean based rom so you have to flash the jellybean GAPPS package not the ics one
3.
Go to settings>storage>format sd card to wipe your external sd card
Then go to settings then backup and reset and uncheck 'Automatic Restore' and 'Backup my data' This will prevent your previous apps from re-installing. Then press Factory data reset to clear all data. After that go to CWM and wipe cache, dalvik cache, and factory data reset to completely wipe everything on your phone. After that power off and go into download mode and reflash your stock firmware.
Hope all this helps
Additional advice: try flashing a stock based custom rom, those tend to be less buggy than original roms

it's not a problem, if Android had more than one launcher installed u had to choose which launcher u want to use.
Hey everybody, im planning on going to AOKP soon and i wanted to confirm with you that im doing everything right.
My phone's current status is:
- Samsung Galaxy SIII (AT&T) running nova launcher prime
- Stock Android Version: 4.04 stock with most of the bloatware uninstalled
- Build number: IMM76D.I747UCLG1
-i am rooted and use SuperSu (Superuser is there too but its not the primary)
-should i/how do i back up my imei? I heard people have had theirs getting corrupted.
1.Download AOKP task 650 rom from here http://forum.xdadevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684
2. Download Gapps from same link above
2.5 Download Underwear Kernel from same link above (then drop it all in root of phone)
3.Do a Nandroid backup (I think i already did this in the rom manager app. Do i have to do it again by going into recovery mode? Or is it just two ways of doing the same thing?)
4.Boot into CWM recovery
5.Wipe data/factory reset,
6.wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache,
7.go to mounts & storage and format system.
8.Flash ROM
9. Flash Underwear Kernel
10.Flash Gapps
11.Reboot
12. Do i have to root again? Or am i rooted already? if not do i root according to this link? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042775
Anyway, if i do everything listed above, will i be okay?
Thanks for the help!

This is the best help I could find for backing up the IMEI, but I've NEVER had an issue with it and I flash ROMs all of the time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
1.First off, it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684 and yes. That is correct.
2. Correct
2.5 You don't need to, it is already packed inside the ROM.
3. I always do a Nandroid within Recovery. I didn't know you could do it anywhere else.
4.Yes
5.Yes
6. Yes
7.Yes
8.Yes
9. No, Kernel is already flashed from inside the ROM package.
10.Yes
11.Yes
12. No
Here are my steps. First I am rooted on 4.0.4. Then I download goomanager from the android market. Open goo and hit the menu button and install open recovery script. This will install twrp recovery. Then I reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset and clear cache. Next I make a full back up in twrp. After that I reboot the phone and back up the imei with nv backup and peoples army method. I did both because im paranoid. Copy your files to your storage. Next I go back into twrp and wipe again, flash the latest work from task. The underwear kernal is included. Last flash gapps. Reboot and feel pimp!

before you get started, in Rom Manager, update your recovery to the latest version if you have not already done so. back up your IMEI then proceed. cheers
Thanks for your help. Final Question: I noticed that Tibu has a option to turn all of my backed up apps into a update.zip. Can i just do that and use it to restore my apps in the recovery menu once im done? Or do i have to do it the long way through the Tibu app?
Or should i do it another way?

you can use the paid tibu to batch backup your apps in a flashable zip, yes.
do NOT include system apps/data in this backup. you will only have problems if you do.
I don't recommend that. Last time I tried that, it corrupted the app data, so I had to restore the normal way with TiBu. It might be better now, but just the issues I have ran into.
Okay, everything worked great! I only have three problems. First one is my notification bar at the top of my phone is clear. Not 20% tranceparency but 100%. Is there a way to get the black bar back? Also, How do screenshots work? And is there a way for enable landscape mode on the home screens?

i dont know about your notification bar. maybe someone running tasks 4.2.2 can weigh in.
to take a screenshot, hold vol down + power buttons together
unless task has landscape mode built into the ROM control settings, you'll have to use a launcher like Nova to enable that

Notification bar might need a reboot to take effect once you set it to 100%. Also, try setting it to 0% and back to 100%.
Nova is the main launcher with Task's AOKP, go through the settings if you want your homescreen in landscape. Also, you can just use the auto-rotate feature (in the pulldown menu).

To get the black bar back at all times go into settings->ROM Control-> General UI->Transparency settings. Uncheck "Match lockscreen alpha" and turn them both to 100%. This will give you a black status bar and will stay consistent.
With the screenshots, voldown/power button. Sometimes you have to hold them for like 1.5 seconds to get it to work.
Ok I've been reading and reading these threads and have found a lot of great info. Right now my phone is useless so I guess I'm asking for a little more specific info for my current situtation. I used mskip's toolkit to root my phone then followed wwjoshdew's video on how to use goomanager to flash CyanogenMod 10.1.2. Everything seemed to be going fine when I got the spinning blue circle screen then came the "Unfortunately, setup wizard has stopped" and "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped". Over and over and over. I can get to download mode and recovery mode but not sure what my next coarse of action should be. This is on an AT&T galaxy s3 originally running 4.1.1. Thanks in advance to any and all help....
I wouldn't use goo manager to flash anything!! U should have flashed straight from recovery, be it cwm or twrp. Did u perform a nandroid backup before u flashed cyan? If so, I would wipe, factory data reset, and install your backup.
Have you tried reflashing Google Apps?
Reboot to recovery, clear cache/dalvik, reflash GApps, clear cache/dalvik again to be sure all is tidy.
Also be sure you have the correct version of GApps; that has messed me up at least once.
Other than that you can always retry the whole process i.e. CM and Apps
Thanks for the replies. I'll try and figure that stuff out. Only reason I've gotten this far was because I was following the toolkit prompts and did the steps in the video as he did them. This is the first time I've tried anything except updating to JB so...
Well, I can't say I've made any progress. I googled correct gapps for cm 10.1.2 and downloaded it but it's like a big collection of stuff that odin won't put in the PDA file spot. I'm not even sure if its the right one. I'm so lost right now. I see all these cwm and twrp recovery files in the toolkit files but not sure if they would help me or not. I know this is fixable since I can still get into recovery and download mode. At this point I would even just go back to stock at least that way I could get rooted again through the toolkit. I'm guess I'm such a noob that I need step by step. I feel like my right arm is missing not having a phone...
Ok I have 2 different versions of gapps that claim to be the right one. I would love to try flashing them to try them out but odin doesn't see them. What am I doing wrong?
Which recovery do u have installed on your phone?
For one dont use odin to flash any custom roms, first download the latest cyanogen mod and gapps, if you need the latest gapps you can get them here. Next you are going to want to boot to recovery and do a factory reset/full wipe then wipe cache/dalvik cache, next go to the top and select load zip from sd card, install cyanogen mod and gapps and reboot the phone.
Ok something different happened this time when I went into recovery. TWRP v2.3.3.1 showed up. I wiped the cache/Dalvik and did the factory reset from there. I have cm-10.1.2-d2att and gapps-jb-20130301-signed ready to copy somewhere. I opened the internal card and saw 8 or so icons that said local disk. so I created a new folder and put the cm and gapps files in there. Does that sound right?
Well that seems to have worked. Rebooted and went through all the google stuff. I'll test everything and see how it works
Glad u got it working!! I usually download Roms straight from my phone, over WiFi of course, and place on the root of the SD card, not in a folder, and flash from there...
