This is a hack that that allows you to swap internal storage with your external SD card so you can increase your app data storage.
All credits go to original i9300 App2ExtSD Hack by mattiadj. I simply hacked it to work with U.S. versions and also I've added code so it will disable this feature when you don't have a microSD card inserted (app storage will default to internal when no microSD card is inserted).
E.g. If you have 16GB internal storage on Galaxy S3, you can install this witih a 64GB microSD card and swap the storage and get 64GB on your app storage instead of 16GB.
Before you can use this, you will need:
1) Rooted Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535/SPH-L710/SGH-T999/SCH-I747) or also Canadian versions too (i747m, etc...etc...)
2) A ROM/kernel with init.d support!
3) I've only tested this with TouchWiz-based ROMs, so it should work on stock ROMs and any TouchWiz-based ROMs, not sure on CM9 or CM10.
4) You must use the FAT32 or EXTFAT zip file below, depending on what format your microSD Card is in! (e.g. if you have a FAT32 microSD card, use FAT32)
To get this working, simply flash the zip files in your CWM Recovery:
Download and Details:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-t...-external-microsd-for-u-s-canadian-galaxy-s3/
If you do not have init.d support, you can also enable on any rooted phone by using Script Manager, here's a quick tutorial:
I recommend you to FORMAT your microSD card once to get camera working flawless before using this hack!
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).
Has anyone tested this yet or am I the first? I installed this twice on a stock rooted rom and wiped my cache and davik but on each reboot, I had noticed it completly wipes my phone clean. Is it suppose to wipe your phone?

^^ This lol.
And what's the advantage to this besides more space if you have a bigger card? Are SD cards any faster than the memory Samsung put in?

You on TW or AOSP?
I don't have a good enough SD card to really warrant using this, but if it works it may influence my decision in investing the money on a new one.

Worked like a charm for me. Even switched the apps I had installed to the SD Card (now device memory) which I wasn't expecting.
I'm on Blazer rom. All I did was install the zip and wipe dalvik cache (I'm not sure why I did that, only because mvaughn mentioned it and I know it won't wipe anything/was prepared for a wipe).
mvaughn, are you running a rooted tw rom with init.d support? And did you possibly wipe your data by accident?
Anyway, time to buy a 64gb card lol.
EDIT: Can also confirm deleting the file as stated and restarting your phone will switch the two back as well as move your apps back to the right spot. This is very neat.
Nopper didn't wipe anything, I'm running the stock rooted rom, let me check but I was sure the Stock had init.d support here is the link to the odex stock I installed

I'm fairly certain that is just the stock rom with root in it. Init.d is probably NOT supported. Try and grab a rom with Init.d support. Blazer Rom and FreeGS3 can be very close to stock and add a lot of cool features.
There was a script to add Init.d and I cant find the link lol time to search I thought I added this script to the stock.

Maybe not....I tested this out so if you have all the requirements it should work fine. Maybe the wipe was a result of not having the Init.d.

You might have to copy all of your contents from internal to sdcard to get it back. OR use Titanium Backup app to backup or restore.
You can always take the sdcard out and reboot, that will boot you normally then plug in sdcard once booted. (That's normal boot without the sd hack)

S-offed and rooted when I first got it. Removed all the bloatware, and got some needed space back. Tried to install custom ROMS that I found off of xda. When flashed the Rom with unofficial cwm recovery, the phone booted back up, but with no signal. When trying to connect through WiFi, under the quick settings option said "Error". Cannot use WiFi or get a signal. Was wondering if it had anything to do with the bootloader not being unlocked. Went to htcdev.com to unlock bootloader, downloaded the Rom update utility for the virgin mobile wildfire s, the ruu told me my Rom image needed updated. After starting the update, phone reboited with the silver HTC on the screen, then shut off and restarted only to be told by my computer that there was a "device id" error. Anyone know why no signal with custom flashed ROMS? Thanks.

Have you been flashing GSM roms? If so i believe this have been caused because of that. Roms that you should flash on your phone should be CDMA only.
I'm not sure. I mean I'm pretty sure they're CDMA roms cause I searched "htc wildfire s virgin mobile cdma custom roms" on Google and found like 5 or 6 roms. I've been trying to get some sense 3.5 roms for it but I've been having problems with no service.
If you go to the Wildfire S Android Development section, there are several active threads for Marvelc phones.
Try:
-[Rom] [Kernel] [Soff] [Many More] Team MarvelUSc which has a ton of stock ROMS and custom ROMs.
-[WFSDEV][AROMA] .sense, a customizable Sense 3.5 ROM for the Wildfire S & Salsa which is a Sense 3.5 ROM with some Marvelc support (some users have reported issues).
-[WIP] [ROM] [AOSPKERNEL] SSCM7 for CDMA Wildfire S which works with bugs with MMS and the camera.
One of those should work for you. These are just some examples of popular threads. There are many, many more ROMs out there.
Thank you. Sorry for being lazy and not looking through all the threads, there are just so many out there and I don't always know exactly where to look. That's why I just made my own topic so I could get some user/dev advice quicker. Also, does Astro File Manager let you change folder permissions such as read/write? I.e. I'm trying to delete the virgin mobile boot animation and it wouldn't let me.
ASTRO does not permit you to change root directories as it does have root privileges.
It is best to use Root Explorer or Root Browser, or something similar.
I use Root Browser and never have any issues and it's free. You can easily change permissions, copy & paste files and folders, etc. I have never personally tried Root Explorer.
Thank you for l the replies. Thought I wouldn't hear anything back for awhile. Gonna download root browser and try that out. Got the playstation one boot logo with sound and wanna try it out but gotta get rid of the vm one first cause its really obnoxious. If anyone has cdma roms or come across any will you post them in this topic so I can try them out?

Is it a sense 3.5 rom and if so could you provide the link for me so I can test it? I have a 32gb SD card with 28gb free. How much should I partition it?
I partition 512mb and about 60 swap run dalvik off sdcard using app2sd. Works great. Really smooth 2.1 rom.
P.S. kernel oc's to 806 mhz

I'm new with the app2sd and data2sd and I'm eerie about messing with it until I read more or get more feedback on it. I did read about increasing my internal storage to 150mb with data2sd and partitioning my SD card but I'm kind of scared to do it cause I'm afraid something will go wrong.

The internal storage is 150mb all the time unless u use a partition. It's very simple to do, just make sure u copy all your music, pix, etc to a computer before making the partition as this will format your card.

Its very easy. If you don't have anything worth saving on your sd card (or if you do, back it all up on the computer), go to recovery choose advanced then partition sd card. Then it will ask you the size. Choose whatever you want. I chose 1GB just to be on the safe side in case i decide to go app crazy. Then everything else is automatic.
If you want to go further and free up more of your /data partition use the apps2sd app and move dalvik-cache to SD.
What apps2sd program do I use and where can I get it?
If u r using jmz's rom it has the apps2sd GUI app preinstalled. U can use it to move dalvik cache to SD, zipalign on boot, etc, but once u make the partition and install the ROM, your apps will automatically move to your SD partition. No need to do it manually.

Make sure u have cwm 5.0.2.6 if u have a different one u could run
Into problems, also check your hboot. I'm on 1.06 and recommend the same. Also make sure u r clearing dalvik cache, formatting boot, data, system, cache, and SD ext before installing ROM. I would also create a new partition of 512, so it will be a completely clean install. If u have done everything right u will have no problems, if something wrong has happened, most likely it was an error u made and can be fixed.

I partitioned my SD card for 4gb with a 256mb swap (which I don't quite know what that means) I have a 32gb class 10 SD card and I don't even use a 1/3 of the space so I figured I'd partition using the biggest option available. I flashed jmz's rom and everything went okay. I currently have 102mb of internal free by using the link2sd method and I ended up flashing back to the stock vm Tom cause I didn't like how jmz's only had around 56mb free. Is there any way to get more than 56 or is that cause all of the stuff on the rom?

Nandroid backup, clear cache and wipe everything and then just flash using CWM.
No Acerring on this one, i'd have to mess with the build.prop. it's a couple lines at the bottom that don't work with the acer ring.
Currently I'm running the ICS leak, should I back to stock HC first?
Will it work if I running CWM-ed HC? (because getting CWM on ICS looks much harder)..

A lot of the custom roms from the a500 don't support install-recovery.sh
And for R/W just create an .sh file with the adb R/W script and just run it as root through the terminal

Why not Odin flash the stock-rooted rom and then you can flash cwm/twrp custom roms or just stay stock rooted.
Either way it will fix your mounting issue for sure.
Big mistake if you're going to flash cm10, you are just asking for problems unless you like experimentation.

I guess it has to do witht the SD card. I used a 1gb and it works fine. But i still need to figure out how to make the 64gb card work.
Not sure that the 64GB cards work on AOSP. Pretty sure you need TouchWiz ROM for that.

The 64GB are in EXFAT format and I don't believe CWM can identify the card in that format. You will need to format the card to FAT32 on your pc and then the recovery should read your card.

That's only one of many reasons why I always try to advise people to stay away from AOKP/AOSP/CM roms.
All of them have inferior cameras and none have wifi calling.
Those roms were meant for developers or for those who like to do a lot of experimentation.
I just got a 64gb sdcard yesterday and it works perfectly, I had a 16gb card which worked perfectly too.
The rom I am using now is jovy's Stockorama v1 which is not exactly stock, it is deoxidized and debloated
and has many mods and lot's of improvements when compared to stock rom.

All sdcards come pre-formatted with FAT32 as default because they perform better and
faster than other formats when used in cell phones and other small devices.
The only advantage of formatting sdcards with other than the default format is when you are
dealing with files larger than 4GB in size. Most people will never have to deal with files of that
size unless they want to use their phones to record video for more than 8 hours continuously.
There are many 3rd party windows 7 utilities which have other format options like MiniTool partition wizard it's a free
(for home use) partition manager that can format a partition as EXT2/3/4 from windows - http://www.partitionwizard.com

and that's where many of those roms have a problem recognizing and formatting the 64gb sdcard.

Have you made any backups? backups by default are stored internally and each one takes around 3gb... check your cwm folder on your internal storage with a file manager... honestly Ive never had to do anything extreme to free up space.. all ive done is browse the internal and find what exactly is taking up space.
Debloat and remove any system apps you dont use or wont need. and while minimal you can also delete ringtones, alarms and notifications youll never use.
you can also use foldermount to move game and app data n such to the external sd card.
as far as the bootanimation its easy enough to replace by moving the bootanimation zips over manually with a file manager, set permissions, and reboot. no flashing necessary.

The CWM backup folder is pretty well hidden unless you know where to look for it... system root-> /data/media/clockworkmod. That is more than likely what's eating your space; in fact, I would be almost positive that is where your space has gone. Either way, factory resets are safe, just realize that you lose ALL your apps + data. Anything saved on your EXTERNAL sd card are safe and won't be deleted though.

do i need a rom?
or just go into cwm and do that?
btw is that what he means when he says "format emmc and wipe it clean"??
i heard doing this will brick your phone, so what r the safest steps on doing this?

You just need clockwork. You'll see the choices in the menus.
It is not what he meant by telling you to erase your emmc. He was teasing you cause doing a wipe is pretty basic.

is this the kernel i want to flash after the custom rom or stock rom?
|KERNEL||STOCK|| Boot.img & Modules M919 UVUAMDB & UVUAMDL || Updated 5|08
or is there more then one?
ive flashed custom roms before i just never flashed a kernel with them.
MY phone again is a ROOTED Stocked SG4 SGH-M919 MDL T-Mobile with touch CWM.
BTW i cant install anything else on my phone is it ok to put the apps on external sd card without using TiBu?
Also would i need a kernel to flash the Death Star Rom?
i tried flashing the Wicked Rom but it stuck on the samsung s4 logo so i replace it at t-mobile with another which i have now
Here's Sprint latest 30a update full rom with firmware, modem.
I built this after restoring to factory stock and taking all the updates to 30a. I then used LGUP to dump the partitions.
I debloated most bloat except Sprint VVM and Caller ID. I couldn't figure out how remove Caller ID.
Includes Magisk, Disable Dm Verity ForceEncrypt, and LG rctd disabler.
Flashing instructions: (Use at your own risk)
1) Backup 1st
2) Check MD5: 903c85217bf369950ef84209f6aee013
3) WARNING, FULL WIPE ONLY!! CANNOT DIRTY FLASH OVER 27A.
***Wipe data, system, and internal data, then twrp flash.
4) Reboot and enjoy.

If your on a US998 rom you'll probably need to do full wipe to flash this. Did you have data working on a US998 rom?

Yes. My last stock backup has full working everything. Rooted us99820e and with a ls998 modem, either restored or from a zip. I have no problem wiping or even formatting. I'd rather take extra steps and have it right. Thanks a lot for the response and the dev work!
Edit: added model#
@otroguero make sure your phone is already activated on Sprint. If not you need to flash 26A. That's the only ROM I know where you can activate your Sprint subscription.
After that you can just dirty flash to 30A.
Flashing works except microSD card. It keeps on saying that it is corrupted. Formatting on phone does not work. I even formatted my card twice on my computer. I have tested two other cards. This is definitely a problem with this ROM.

The AnxiousV30 mods enable that but it breaks LG Backup to MicroSD Card.

You need to do step 3, full wipe. Use LG Backup to sdcard for backup, them restore after flashing.

A full wipe should have nothing to do with the ext SD card?

For some reason 27a didn't play well with 30a. Full wipe is fix.
