When someone sends me a text, my phone speaks and says who the message is from. How do I turn this off?

Did you enable driving mode? Go to S-voice and say "driving mode off" then send yourself a text to see if it worked.

or if you're talking about it vibrating when you get a text that setting is in the messaging application under settings>notification settings

try settings>cyanogenmod settings>sound and turn off vibrate during calls
if that doesn't work I would do a wipe and flash again
Well now whenever I receive a phone call I have to press 1 to answer it.. I think it may have been when I was fooling around with google voice.

It's annoying for people you don't want to screen. I believe you can set it as an option in your Google voice settings. You can turn it on/off for everyone or just particular groups. Look under 'Call Settings'. I've attempted to turn it off for 2 groups, but I don't think I've got it sorted all the way out yet, so this may not work.
You can turn it off but you have to do it from a pc as far as I can tell.

Ya must be done on your home computer under Google voice settings.

From your PC, login to your google voice account, then to disable it go to the "Voice settings", click on the "Calls" tab, and then where it says "Call Screening" choose "Off"...

Theres a multicolor widget on TW4 that has 3 buttons on one of the screens. They relate to Text to speach while driving, sounds like one of them is on. Hope this helps
It's the driving mode, should be the car icon. Make sure it's off.

If you open Voice Talk, you can uncheck Driving Mode, that will turn off the voice for new notifications.
Lol this happened to me to when I first got this phone.

Even if car mode is off, and "driving mode" is still on in Voice Talk, you will still hear the Siri-esque voice. You have to disable "Driving Mode" from within "Voice Talk" to get her to shut up.
BTW, you can change what she greets you with when you say "Hi Galaxy" in the program settings. Mine says, "What the hell do you want now, John"
It's the rom that your using. The voice is Linda I think.

That's one thing I thought it sounded like. I stripped some of the Linda sounds from my Vibrant and brought them over to my GS2. I missed them.
I can't stand that voice and all of the texts and plug in sounds. Talk about wanting attention... Lol

Truth. She makes everyone trip out when I get a call/email/text.
Hi guys how can I make my phone to turn on briefly when a text message comes in? My wife's galaxy s3 does it but my S2 just stays with its screen off. If it helps I am running the ICS sprint official update...
Thanks
Mario
Are you talking about a sleep mode?

No. I want my phone to wake up instead of going to sleep actually when I receive a text message.I was looking into sms pop-up and iPhone notifications. I just don't want to have to turn the phone on myself every time I get a text message
You would need a third party messenger app like handcent or Go SMS. I personally use handcent since my og Evo days. Pretty satisfied.

check out an app called "no led" found here...https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.led.notify&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5sZWQubm90aWZ5Il0.
edit: my bad, try go sms... it has a pop up feature
I'm on rooted new ota. Ever since the update my text messages are showing in call log. When I select the view by option and change it to all calls it works for a while and then reverts back to showing text messages as well. I've searched but haven't found any solution. Is the a mod or other answer. Also, how do you kill the action where the screen turns on when receiving a text?
Have you try using go SMS? There is an option for the screen turning on and it won't appear in you call log I think

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm really looking for a mod rather than using a 3rd party app.
