Just a quick question. I am on the stock rooted EL29 rom. I used ODIN to do so. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to unroot without a computer. Mine crashed and I don't really have use of one. Any info would be appreciated.
one of the only ways I know is to have first used the auto root method. since you flashed an already rooted I would say mobile odin from the market would be the way to go and flash a stock tar. not rooted.
Hi,
I usually can find an answer going through the forums but now I'm in doubt so I'll just ask the question.
I'm on Rogers network. I rooted my phone using mskip amazing toolkit from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665. Everything has been going well but now I noticed that I'm not able to get LTE. I thought the problem was on Rogers side so I called the them but after 45 minutes on the phone with the tech I realized that my flashed ROM is probably the problem. (I still wonder why the tech didnt asked me if I had rooted the phone since everything he was asking me to do on the phone wasn't working....). I checked my APN and it's fine. I also used the app phone info and tried to force LTE without any luck. I read that if we flash an ATT rom that LTE might not work. Based on the menu options in mobile network (and my conversation with Rogers tech), I think I need to flash a rooted Rogers ROM. So I want to flash the Rogers stock root rom from mrRobinson (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426) using CWM but I'm not sure if the file is made to be used with CMW but instead only ODIN. And I think I will loose CWM if I flash the file through ODIN since it contains a recovery file.
So,
1- Can I flash the Rogers stock root file from mrRobinson using CWM?
2- If I flash the Rogers stock root from mrRobinson through ODIN will it change my CWM recovery to stock recovery?
Thank you!
Yes, those images must be flashed through ODIN. TAR files need ODIN, ZIP files can use CWM.

I believe so, but just follow his steps to reinstall CWM recovery, it does take very long.
I am kinda new to flashing and I need to flash my phone back to stock rom w/out unrooting it.. i am having it flashed to Verizon Prepaid and need stock rom on it but i don't want to unroot it. Any help would be extremely greatfull.
I'm currently running team sonic freegs3 r6 on my tmo gs3. I want to flash r7. Can I just go ahead and do a factory reset/wipe cache and flash r7? Or do I need to update to the stock UVDLJA first? If update to stock is required, is updating thru tmo's OTA ok?
if you are moving from ICS to JB and you are rooted and have been updating manually it would be a good idea to use odin and Flash a JB rom to do it easily i would recommend using the ROOT66 rooted stock Rom then install the recovery you wish to use then flash to the rom you wish.
Now you can just flash the new Rom but it can create unseen problems and leave bloat behind. So in general its a good idea when moving from ICS to JB to flash first.
If you use kies you will lose root (IDK if it will work but look up something called root keeper i think it only works with odin but IDK) so you decide what you want to do (ANYTHING YOU DO ITS UP TO YOU TO DO IT RIGHT)
I think the easiest way is to use ODIN and Root 66 (That's What i Did Anyway)
search root 66 to find all the other info you need goof luck
Thanks Beatnik. I was hoping a simple wipe and flash would suffice. I'll explore your suggestions.
I rooted my dad's phone a while back ago so he can use tethering in case of emergencies etc. He recently got a smart watch and I wanted to updated it so that he can use it. But it has not been touched since that day. I essentially want rooted stock rom, I'm unaware of where to find that the closest I can find is StockMod kitkat. Which seems to not work on ATT phones? I just want to make sure that I don't brick his only phone on christmas. So is there something I should be aware of?
His model is SGH-i747
Baseband
i747UCDLK3
Build number
jro03
So how do I go about upgrading it? Can I just flash TWRP and flash any rom using TWRP?
I found this, so I should install new TWRP, then flash a specified kernel then flash rom? would this be safe route?
Some of the latest ROMs require a 4.4.2 bootloader and modem.
The simplest and safest way to get the latest bootloader may be to flash back to unrooted stock 4.1.1 and run OTA updates until the phone is running the latest KK ROM. You can then flash TWRP or CWM and a custom ROM.

Would this require flashing with ODIN? I just want it so that it works with root is not required anymore.
Yes, you would flash the 4.1.1 stock ATT ROM via Odin. I prefer Odin 3.07.
You cannot install OTA updates with root.
You can try flashing just the bootloader and modem but I prefer the long slow route of OTA updates.
I rather do it this way, manually so my dad can enjoy it today. I was wondering how can I update it's TWRP? it's at 2.3 but the TWRP manager keeps crashing when I update it.
I highly recommend the latest d2lte version of Philz Touch for recovery.

Ok I ****ed up, flash that kernel and did whatever and bam ****ed up. Not working... ****, I still ahve download mode and Recovery but it will not boot into the OS. I get a flash of samsung and then nothing else happends...****
I decided to flash stock DLK3 in odin. Then let the updates take it course (my dad doesn't need root) Where Can I find the file?
The stock ATT firmware is on sammobile.com.
If you want root, OTA to the latest 4.4.2, install Philz, flash supersu via recovery.
