let me start with my symptoms:
for a while, my phone wouldnt start, it would just show the first splash screen and then it would go dark with white lines on the sides and above or it would be reversed showing black around the edges and the splash screen would still be there.
but then after a long time of not using it and f**kin around with it i got it to the actual home screen but it says "System UIDs are Inconsistent, you need to wipe your data Partition or your device will be unstable" with a button down below saying "im feeling lucky"
i have rom manager premium (forecloses alot) but when it does work, i cannot flash a clockwork recovery because it says an error occured while attempting to run Priveledged Commands
tried Factory reset and cleared all data on the phone, but it restarts only to bring me back to the homescreen (not the first time setup like it should)
i tried rooting my Phone by trying to downgrade back to froyo to turn S-off, so i can root and get back to Gingerbread i did it manually and with automated tools, but nothing works, i even made an account with HTC dev and ran thier RUU tool............
in the phone's Power+Volume Down menu, it says this:

strangely also, when i choose one of the colored menu options above, they dont do anything, instead the HTC splash shows and goes right back to the SYSTEM UID message i mentioned above
and has three androids on the bottom atop some skateboards
the goal is that I am ultimately trying to get my vanilla HTC back unrooted and fixed completely so i can choose to reroot it later on... can anyone help me?

Have you tried doing an ruu thru hboot http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip? If so and it didnt work i would go to the htcdev site and unlock the bootloader. Once unlocked you can fastboot flash cwm recovery, and then superuser, and you will be rooted. Then enter recovery, wipe everything, and try to flash a rom and see if it will boot normally without issues.

I was trying out a custom rom when my phone suddenly goes into boot loops. I can get to HBOOT but it bootloops when I choose recovery, factory reset, or clear storage. I get the splash image then it reboots after a few seconds.
My phone:
Incredible AMOLED
S-OFF
Hboot v .92
Baseband 7.28
What I did so far in HBOOT only with no success:
-formated my sd to fat32 and
-flash the PB31IMG.zip of radio 7.28 ( I was on 9.01 )
-flash the PB31IMG.zip of 2.2 RUU (got back the HTC splash since I had the Chicago Bears splash on it)
-flash the PB31IMG.zip of Clockwork Mod 2.5.05
-connected the USB and rerun the Unrevoked (see if I can reroot) but it won't connect to the phone. Just wait for device.
I want to S-ON so I can send it back but I can't get past Hboot to get to recovery mode. Is their another way to return S-ON by just flashing PB31IMG? I'm really screwed now and its Thanksgiving.

That's Qualcomm Diagnostics mode, because you pressed vol up while booting the phone with a USB cable attached. That will only happen when you have S-OFF.
To get out of diag mode, unplug the usb cable, take the battery out, wait a few seconds and then boot as normal.
With respect to the OP..the only way to get S-ON is using the S-ON patch by unrevoked. If your HBOOT is verion .92 then you didn't flash an RUU (maybe the latest RUU has a newer hboot? didn't think so). You should flash an older RUU, like the 2.1 one.

Regardless if you're booting into HBOOT make sure you're holding volume down and not up.
HBOOT is version .92 now for stock? I didnt know that.
I Bought a evo flashed to boost upon trying to flash back you sprint using the RUU from my PC the phone restarted (on it's own) during the process and the RUU exited. Now my evo wont get passed the white evo screen without vibrating 5 times and going blank. The PC shows android usb devices and htc bootloader in device manager but doesnt show in device or removable storage. i have tried pulling the battery, waiting hour before putting battery back in, cleared storage and I out of idea
any help would be appreciated

If you can boot into the bootloader, try flashing a PC36IMG.zip of the RUU through the bootloader. I don't have one handy, but I'll see if I can find you one.
I'm not sure how flashing to/from Sprint works. Are you trying to unroot? If you are, then you need to flash the unrevoked s-on zip in recovery before running the RUU.
Not good. I had this issue and spent days trying to fix it. Luckily it switched to S-ON so I was able to get it replaced at the sprint store for $35.
if you can use bootloader or recovery i would try flashing the latest sprint radios
Try this if you're unrooting back to stock:

thanks plainjane Im just trying to get my phone in a usable condition w/ sprint at this point whether or not it's rooted or not. but i have downloaded:

Can you get into the bootloader by vol down + power buttons until you see the skating androids? I'm assuming so since the info you posted is from the bootloader.
If so, put the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your SD and boot into the bootloader. Make sure that it's named correctly & not PC36IMG.zip.zip. By default, you should only see PC36IMG in Windows because extensions are hidden. You'll still be s-off if unrevoked or unrevoked forever was ever used, but you'll have a bootable phone.
i tried the link which provided the 2 PC36IMG zip and followed those directions, but when I flashed the unrevoke s-on zip is aborted b/c it couldn't verify. so now instead of 5 vibrates and blank screen with green flashing light its just rebooting the white htc evo. but something did work b/c now my hboot screen shows

What exactly did it say when you tried to flash the s-on zip? I'm assuming you no longer have a recovery?
If not, here's a PC36IMG of Amon Ra 2.3, try flashing it through the bootloader like you did before. If you can get it to flash, choose no when it asks you to reboot then try to boot into recovery. From there you can try flashing the stock rooted rom. In theory this shouldn't work since if the first PC36IMG took you're not rooted, despite being s-off.
Are you following some kind of guide to flash back to Sprint? Are there any steps following running the RUU that you can do?
Recovery here: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
It couldn't verify the system type in the intial flash but i just used the new recovery and it flashed the unrevoked successfully now my evo shows s-on and its updating to the ruu pc36img now.
the link you sent me too earlier has instructions with it and I'm following those to do the ruu.
thank you very much you have been very helpful
i will post after the update is done to let you know the results
the RUU update has completed and it has rebooted to the white evo screen and has stay for the past 3 or 4 mins
so I pulled the battery and turn it back on and still went through the reboot loop of the white evo screen. Im reinstalled the ruu update as i type right now. and as of now my hboot shows:

finished updating and now when it reboot it just sits in the white htc evo screen
How long do you let it sit at the white screen? Sometimes it can take 15-20 minutes.
oh i only let it sit for 7 minutes or so do i need to reflash and update or just let it sit the next time ?
also when you pulled the battery it would boot to eithewr the 4g screen or sprint screen before it continuiously reboot or reboot to white screen
I honestly don't know the best way to go.
I would try reflashing it and see where it goes from there. If that doesn't work, maybe go into Amon RA and wipe CACHE, DALVIK-CACHE, DATA, BOOT AND SYSTEM. Then try the RUU again.

how would i go about getting to amon ra to wipe said files?
now my evo will start and get all the way to the home screen and then restart i mean its better then nothing but i still dont have anything useable at the moment but thanks to all that have help. i have tried to rerun the ruu through bootloader but still not getting a bootable phone. Would it be possible to root the phone whilst connected in bootloader since im not able to connect through htc sync
Also i no longer have root access
Have you flashed the pc36img of amon ra yet? Then selected the recovery option in the Bootloader, then wiping or flashing? You could also flash the latest sprint radio, prl and pri just to be on the safe side.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
i used to be able to flash amon ra not when i use it as pc36img zip it loads then checks the pc36img then back to hboot screen.
as of now my evo you get all the way to the home screen where you must unlock it then will reboot
its almost as if it doesn't know how to get any further

What state is your phone in now, s-on, or s-off, its current state, and where you need to go; kinda lost reading through the thread.
Hey Guys,
I already searched in the whole forum and tried a lot of different tutorials and stuff but i just can't bring my desire back to life... :crying:
I got it today from a friend and tried to update it and after that it was stuck at the white htc screen and wouldn't boot.
However I wasn't able to get into the recovery mode because the phone would jump back to the white htc screen and freeze (sometimes it would vibrate 7 times)
I then tried to recover it with a ruu but i got an 152 error and now i have the black htc screen with the four /!\ in the edges. I tried different ruus, including some from vodafone (because i wasnt sure if my phone is branded or not) but with the vodafone ruus i get a 131 error (so i guess my phone is not branded). i also tried the 2.3 gingerbread image.
When i try to recover it with the gingerbread image it stops at about 55% at system rewriting (or sth. like that)
When i plug it out after this i get the following stats:

I also get the Error 140 from time to time...
I think i might have to downgrade the hboot, but i don't know how, cause i am s-on and can't get any further than the black htc screen (=fastboot)
i also have the adb toolkit, and i tried to force boot it by the command fastboot oem boot... but it froze at the white htc screen and vibrated 7 times
And i dont have a goldcard...
Can anybody help me with this? if you need more information just ask!
this happened to me...try s-off your device with revolutionary...and then get back to stock hboot from alpharev...and then try gingerbread image to install....
good luck...
Thank you for your reply

You have a radio brick. Few phones are recovered from this state. The only thing you can do is endlessly flash a RUU hoping that sometime it will succeed.
Try the 2.3 RUU in my sig, or the .exe version of it, or some wwe ruu-s.
//Edit: Post 999
Thanks abaaaabbbb63 for your answer, but i think i might found the first part of the solution
I just stumbled across the "fridge/freezer" method and it worked . Simply put your desire into the fridge until its really cold and the ruu will finish the update. (I think its because the radio gets really hot during updating. For example, the more times you try to update it in a row, the hotter it gets and the sooner the ruu stops)
However, now I'm stuck in an Boot circle. Phone vibrates, green htc logo for a few sec, then black screen and the phone boots again.
But i can get into the boot loader with power and volume-.
Hboot is 1.02.0001
i can go into fastboot, but when i try to get into the recovery mode, the phone is stuck in the boot cycle again.
Anyone some suggestions on how to continue this? I think i need to turn s-off to downgrade the hboot if im right but how?
Update: When i try to do fastboot oem boot via adb, the phone vibrates 7 times in is back in the boot cycle
Update 2: Correct me if I'm wrong but I think i have to set up a custom recovery mode like clockwork via pb99.img, right? However dont have time now, will try it tomorrow...
Befoire you tell me this problem is already listed on the forum, I'd like to tell you I've read through them all and from what I can tell my problem is a little different;
I've had my HOX for about 6 months, I love it and never had a problem with it before (except for the overheat issue).
However, yesterday morning I woke up checked my phone and everything was fine, an hour later however the processor acted like it hung and then rebooted itself. When it booted back up I was greeted with the HOX boot menu:

I have tried all the options and they all seem to loop back into the boot menu, when it first started I was able to power up and get to the bootmenu, however a day later it is giving me nothing unless I plug it into my pc. I have read alot of people accounting this problem to screwing up while trying to install a custom rom, something which has never been done to my phone. The only app I installed recently before the error was touch from the play store, however my contract phone bill is currently late (was cut off on friday, phone locked itself on the saturday), could it be that my carrier (vodafone UK) may have locked my phone for non-payment? Did the app cause my phone to crash? Or is this just random bad luck?
Any advice or help on this subject would be awesome
Seems like random bad luck...
Select hboot and do a factory reset. If that does not work, return the device for warranty repair.

Just tried that, reboots and then loops back into the bootmenu, when selecting hboot I get an error though:
SD Checking...

(another line here but it moves back to the hboot menu before i can read it)
The error is because you probably had it on the charger. That's normal, we all have that.
But like TT said.....return it for warranty. A full locked bootloader must give you 100% warranty !
yeah i would send it back as well.. shame but hey at least they will replace it for you or repair it

Hi i think im having a similar problem, HOX running cyanogenmod 10.1 beta 7, i was playing with my phone last night and went a bit mad uninstalling apps (CM Updater was one :silly, i set the cpu to performance (which i hadnt really done before, not sure if has any effect) but i noticed after i tried setting it back to on demand none of the frequencies would lower i just ignored this turned my screen off and then it wouldnt turn back on so i turned it off by holding the power button and put it on charge and fell asleep and completely forgot about it until i woke up about 15 minutes ago, FANTASTIC.
It was on charge but the charge indicator was just flashing Then when i tried turning it on it only got to the cyanogenmod bootscreen. So i rebooted into bootloader where it tells me the battery is too low to flash anything, even though its been on charge all night? I then proceeded to do a factory wipe and restore my backup which succeeded but now i get as far the "htc one x with beats audio" boot screen.
I have heard that it could be from using the wrong charger which could be as i wasnt using the stock charger but as soon as i changed to that it charges(????) with a solid red indicator. Still stuck on the boot screen. I fear for the worst unless anyone can shed any light :crying::crying::crying:
Did you also flashed the boot.img from the backup and performed a full wipe before restoring ??? Otherwise it will never boot.
You cant flash anything......try this !?
Enter the recovery if you can and wipe the batt stats, then put the phone in the bootloader and execute this script from inside the fastboot folder.
http://db.tt/aLqeTpPO
Or when you have a custom recovery where you can charge inside....leave it in the recovery and try charging from there.

Ok cheers! The boot.img in the backup folder yes? Not the rom one? Also I left my phone on charge for a bit after i powered down from the bootloader and now theres no low battery warning so i guess that must be a good sign?!
Yep and if you restore the backup then yes you must flash the boot.img from that backup. And yes its in the backup folder
Don't forget to do this right after flashing the boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
It prevents from having problems booting into the recovery
yessssssssss!!!!!! thank you so much you are an actual hero!!!!!! second problem ive had and both times youve helped me fix it!!! next time i wont get high before i start messing with system files and stuff lmao
Haha good thing its sorted.....again :
CASE CLOSED !
For the past few weeks I had been running ViperOne rom. I liked it very much and it was for the most part stable, but I decided to try out UnsenseOne-KitKat. I tried installing the zip file using TWRP, just as I had done with ViperOne but when I tried rebooting, my phone only went to the bootloader and wouldn't even try booting to system.
I had a problem similar to this before when I was trying to unlock and root my One, so I thought I was fix it the same way I did then. I downloaded the vzw m7 RUU from here and installed it using fastboot. The RUU installs just fine and everything in the command prompt says that it was successful. But when I try to boot my phone now, it hangs on the white htc splash screen.
It also hangs on the white htc splash screen when I try to enter recovery. I'm at a loss, and I am now thinking I may have gained a new paperweight today. Has this ever happened to anyone? Or does anyone know how to fix this?
If it helps, this is what I see on my bootloader:
relocked
m7_wlv pvt ship s-off rh
cid-vzw__001
hboot-1.44.0000
radio-1.12.41.1112_2
opendsp-v33.120.274.0913
emmc-boot
UPDATE: Okay, so I tried installing instead the 2.10.605.1 RUU (I had been using the 1.10 version before) and now instead of hanging at the white htc splash screen, it shows the slpash screen for a few seconds and then goes back to the bootloader saying "Active cmdline overflow! (1073 Bytes)" This is new... any ideas?
UPDATE2: I googled the Active cmdline overflow problem and saw that for some it worked to downgrade hboot to 1.44. I got the hboot zip from here. And now no more Active cmdline problem! YAY! Only now my phone is once again hanging on the white htc slpash screen.
UPDATE3: Haven't done anything else since the last update, but I did just notice that when I try to boot into recovery, I get a black screen with a picture of an phone with a red triangle on it. I get a similar screen when I try to boot into "Factory Reset" but instead of a red triangle there are two green arrows making a circle. Also when my phone is plugged in my phone now once again shows the charging animation (phone turned off). This was not the case before.

That sceeen is the stock recovery. Flash this in ruu mode. http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/RECOVERIES/twrp/Twrp_2.6.3.4_RUU_Mode.zip. That should get you twrp recovery. From there do a factory reset and then flash a rom, and see if it boots. If it does use firewater to unlock the bootloader again.

So I did what you suggested, and the .zip file flashed just fine, no errors, but I'm still stuck at the "Entering Recovery . . ." screen.

Nevermind, I downgraded to hboot 1.44 and I was able to enter recovery. Thanks!
