Befoire you tell me this problem is already listed on the forum, I'd like to tell you I've read through them all and from what I can tell my problem is a little different;
I've had my HOX for about 6 months, I love it and never had a problem with it before (except for the overheat issue).
However, yesterday morning I woke up checked my phone and everything was fine, an hour later however the processor acted like it hung and then rebooted itself. When it booted back up I was greeted with the HOX boot menu:
*** LOCKED ****

I have tried all the options and they all seem to loop back into the boot menu, when it first started I was able to power up and get to the bootmenu, however a day later it is giving me nothing unless I plug it into my pc. I have read alot of people accounting this problem to screwing up while trying to install a custom rom, something which has never been done to my phone. The only app I installed recently before the error was touch from the play store, however my contract phone bill is currently late (was cut off on friday, phone locked itself on the saturday), could it be that my carrier (vodafone UK) may have locked my phone for non-payment? Did the app cause my phone to crash? Or is this just random bad luck?
Any advice or help on this subject would be awesome
Seems like random bad luck...
Select hboot and do a factory reset. If that does not work, return the device for warranty repair.

Just tried that, reboots and then loops back into the bootmenu, when selecting hboot I get an error though:
SD Checking...

Loading PG46IMG.zip image...
Failed to open usb master mode
(another line here but it moves back to the hboot menu before i can read it)
The error is because you probably had it on the charger. That's normal, we all have that.
But like TT said.....return it for warranty. A full locked bootloader must give you 100% warranty !
yeah i would send it back as well.. shame but hey at least they will replace it for you or repair it

Hi i think im having a similar problem, HOX running cyanogenmod 10.1 beta 7, i was playing with my phone last night and went a bit mad uninstalling apps (CM Updater was one :silly, i set the cpu to performance (which i hadnt really done before, not sure if has any effect) but i noticed after i tried setting it back to on demand none of the frequencies would lower i just ignored this turned my screen off and then it wouldnt turn back on so i turned it off by holding the power button and put it on charge and fell asleep and completely forgot about it until i woke up about 15 minutes ago, FANTASTIC.
It was on charge but the charge indicator was just flashing Then when i tried turning it on it only got to the cyanogenmod bootscreen. So i rebooted into bootloader where it tells me the battery is too low to flash anything, even though its been on charge all night? I then proceeded to do a factory wipe and restore my backup which succeeded but now i get as far the "htc one x with beats audio" boot screen.
I have heard that it could be from using the wrong charger which could be as i wasnt using the stock charger but as soon as i changed to that it charges(????) with a solid red indicator. Still stuck on the boot screen. I fear for the worst unless anyone can shed any light :crying::crying::crying:
Did you also flashed the boot.img from the backup and performed a full wipe before restoring ??? Otherwise it will never boot.
You cant flash anything......try this !?
Enter the recovery if you can and wipe the batt stats, then put the phone in the bootloader and execute this script from inside the fastboot folder.
http://db.tt/aLqeTpPO
Or when you have a custom recovery where you can charge inside....leave it in the recovery and try charging from there.

Ok cheers! The boot.img in the backup folder yes? Not the rom one? Also I left my phone on charge for a bit after i powered down from the bootloader and now theres no low battery warning so i guess that must be a good sign?!
Yep and if you restore the backup then yes you must flash the boot.img from that backup. And yes its in the backup folder
Don't forget to do this right after flashing the boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
It prevents from having problems booting into the recovery
yessssssssss!!!!!! thank you so much you are an actual hero!!!!!! second problem ive had and both times youve helped me fix it!!! next time i wont get high before i start messing with system files and stuff lmao

After self rebooting while trying out vlc beta et freezing:
My DZ refuses to (symptom is I end stuck on green HTC logo on white screen for each of these possibilities):
* boot to OS
* boot to recovery (through bootloader) (So no adb possible)
* factory reset from bootloader
It will however:
* boot to bootloader (Vol-+Power) and go to fastboot
* accept flashing via fastboot (Ive flashed various recoveries and finally even reflashed stock RUU hoping it could help)
I've notice that when I tuen it on normally, I vibrates then I get HTC logo than after a few seconds it vibrates once and stays on HTC logo
For the record this has allready happend once in the past... and I eventually got it to reboot by leaving the DZ batteryless for a hole weak (I tried 24h, 48h and eventually a weak) before putting the battery back in and seeing it let me boot it to recovery... My reasonning behind this wait was that there might be accumulated static somewhere and that leaving it out batteryless would drain all juice out and the static with it (based on computer motherbaord issues allready encountered)... Since then I have been on Virtuous Unity, Affinity, Quatro and lately Andromadus Audacity Beta1-4 and lastly mimicry whithout any problems.
So right now It is again sitting out battery less for several days as 24h has not sufficed...
As I wait (I'm suffering o an old iPhone 2g...) I have been going through all the forums looking for information... And have found tons of issues concerning the emmc and its "fryability". However everytime people talk about fried emmcs they seeem to be booting to recovery without an issue...
If the phone never boots, I'm guessing there are 3 possible explanations:
* emmc
* motherboard
* cpu
Now I've found that all can be repurchased (yeah warranty gone for me as I'm S-Off and unless I can boot one last time permroot and revert gfree I will stay S-Off) at http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-desire-z/
But the real question is: Is there a way to determine if emmc is fried (I'm booting to bootlader which seems to be on emmc from my understanding)
Finally I've allways assumed that it is useless to leave the phone at HTC logo more than 30 seconds... is this a mistake ?
Thanks in advance for any help/answers
P.S. Does the battery charge when in bootloader or fastboot ? If not I might not be able to reccharge it once it is drained...

first see what chip you have, you can use adb commands within your bootloader
have you been able to get fastboot to work at all?
Thanks for all the links, I had allready read those threads and those are what generated my questions.
Yes fastboot seems to work (flashing ends with OK every time)
I have tried to adb to the phone when in bootloader but that is a no go (From my research I thought the phone had to be either booted normally or in recovery to be able to adb to it and since I can do none of those two...)
When I reflashed stock 1.34 ROM from fastboot it overwrote the bootloader and replaced the engineering one with the stock one (I can see that when in bootlader)... So am I correct in assuming that the emmc is not fried and that all flashboot flashes are therefor working ?
to my understanding some blocks in the emmc get corrupt and others don't, just being able to rewrite hboot or recovery doesn't mean everything is fine it may just mean this block is ok. where you able to write a new recovery and boot into it?

Flashing a recovery seems OK (i.e. according to command line it worked) but booting to it does not work...
I've tried cwm and 4ext (used to be on 4Ext).
I'll wait out my week with the battery pulled out and see what happens when I put it back in... But if it does boot I'm S-Oning it and send it in for warranty because this behavior isn't normal...

Well no luck...
I've reflashed it with HTC 1.34.405*RUU.exe --> Seemd to go fine but didn't reboot after
I've reflashed using the corresponding PC10IMP.zip on /sdcard and booting into bootloader:
where I got
BOOTLOADER ok
BOOT ok
RECOVERY ok
SYSTEM ok
etc...
Everything said OK... but still won't boot to OS or to recovery stays on green HTC logo on white background.
I've noticed 2 things:
* that on booting it vibrates once then a few seconds (~5) it vibrates once again while on HTC green on white logo and just stays there after...
* that when it is off and I plug the usb, the led does not turn on... (indicator of mobo problem ?)
Well tonight I tried reviving the phone again... 10 days without touching the phone...
Lets' back up here... 10 days ago I flashed a modified Stock PC10IMG of 1.34.405.5 RUU - modified because I repalced bootloader with DZ engineering one and recovery with 4ext-touch-recovery-1.0.0.3-RC3. But the phone would not:
* boot to recovery
* fastboot boot 4ext-touch-recovery-1.0.0.5-RC3.img
* fastboot boot boottosd.img
So back to tonight... I tried
fastboot boot 4ext-touch-recovery-1.0.0.5-RC3.img
and it booted to recovery right away (less than 10 seconds... in the past I have left it for more than 10 minutes without succes...) and complained that cache partition needed wiping... (This is odd to me I thought the PC10IMG flashing would do that...)
So anyways I did just that and then went for the emmc version and got:
#cat /sys/class/block/mmcblk0/device/name
SEM04G
So normally the good emmcs...
Then I rebooted to recovery from Nand flash (not fastboot) worked and finaly rebooted to stock 1.34.405.5 (i.e. rooted for now)
So now I'm just wondering WHAT HAPPENED ?
I did nothing in between 2 series of similar boot tests... except wait 10 days.
I'm leaning more and more towards static electricity problems...
So now I'm wondering... Get back to S-on ? but I'ts working so servicing will not be accepted... Or going back to Andromadus mimicry (I have a backup I can apply )
Well going for andromadus as I allready bought a phone with broken lcd for parts !
If anyone has commands he would like me to run I'm more than willing to do it...
My HTC One x all o sudden turned off and now keeps restarting till the HTC logo appears and then keeps on restarting. Did you unlock it? If no, take it back for replacement. Otherwise, more info needed. Your rom, kernel, recovery, hboot version

Any suggestions here will most likely include unlocking, installing a custom recovery and rooting, all of which will be used against you in your warranty claim. Just take it back....
EDIT: you can try factory resetting first, but you say you cannot use vol keys. The only other thing you can do is to find your matching ruu and run that from your pc.

3 things:
1. When I connect my phone to computer, it again starts restarting like when i connect it to charger. question: Can I install RUU in such condition? I mean does the on/ off state of phone matters?
2. Will installing RUU void my warranty?
3. How can I find the right RUU for my phone?
Many thanks!
Ruus are official htc releases so warranty will be fine. Applying it in that situation will probably not work and come to think of it can make things worse.

I have the exact same problem with my HTC One X. When I power up, it will try to boot, launch into the HTC splash screen, then go black and reboot again, ad infinitum. If I keep the lower-volume button down, it will launch into the boot selector screen, then go black, and reboot again, etc. As if the power button were stuck.
My guess is: something's really wrong with the ROM at a very basic level, or it actually *is* a short circuit in the power button or something like that. I'm going to bang it against a wall for a while and then take it apart to see what's what.
Thing is, I know exactly what happened to my phone: I made it go for a swim. And smart kid that I am I never insure my electronics. So I've probably irreparably borked a perfectly fine machine and screwed myself for a nice €450.
Edit: Should of course have powered down the phone as soon as I noticed it was wet, then put it in a bag of rice, and kept it there fore a couple of days. Probably too late now, but I'll give it a try anyway.

If you can get into fastboot see if you can run the command:
fastboot erase cache
Have you recently flashed a rom by any chance?
If you have did you ensure you opened the .zip file and extracted the boot.img file and flashed that seperately? Again with fastboot...
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Is always a good procedure to follow.
If you have recently just flashed a different kernel other than that recommended/or came with the ROM, did you make sure you repacked it to provide you with a compatible boot.img?
If you did and you followed the steps above to flash the boot.img its also good practice to wipe cache and dalvik cache again in recovery prior to flashing the modules that came with it.
I'm having the same issue with my phone. Seems like the power button is stuck, it keeps restarting itself until the battery drains out. As soon as I plug it to charge, the reboot process starts over and over again. I really want to open it up and check the power connectors, but I wonder if there's a better advice before I do that.

HTC one x turns off when i switch to HDR camera mode
Hello guys my HOX has a problem that when ever i switch on to HDR it shuts down and keeps restarting.. another problem is that it shows different battery status than the original .. 5 min ago it showed 23% than it switched off and showed 60% and i guess this auto turning off is some how related to this battery issue it never gave me a low battery sign.. i dont understand whether its a software issue or hardware.. i was running stock 4.1.1 now i flashed renovated rom but the problem persists .. plz i will appreciate help from you guys .. my specs are as follows
build version 3.14.401.31
baseband version 5.1204.162.29
kernel version 3.1.10 at renovated rom
hboot 1.36
I thought you should have hboot 1.39 with that ROM?
Looks like something is funky, I would flash the RUU (htcruu.com), but that will wipe your phone.

Hi, I have similar problem recently. So, What I tried is: press the power button when the One X reboots (before allowing it to enter to splash screen) - Just once. And instead of repeating with restart it just goes to htc One logo and turns on fine. May be the problem which you noticing could be some other flavor of it. But, give a try.
What a bump... 5 month old topic... I'm sure he fixed this problem by now...

Hey guys i have the same problem with my HTC ONE S.
The other day in class i switched on the Bluetooth and every since it keeps restarting.
I finally figured out out to get it to the bootloader (at this stage it doesn't restart) and i can move around by pressing the up/down volume buttons.
How can i possibly fix this problem? Factory reset is not an option as i have a ton of photographs and apps installed and dont want to lose them.

I have the same problem with my HTC ONE X. It starts, enter to the lock screen and reboot, and like this over and over. If i keep the cellphone turn off for and hour or two it go backs normal and a i can use it for a while and the start rebooting again. I think maybe is a heat problem cause if a leave him all night with the screen turn off it doesn't reboot. Anyone could solve this problem?????
I tried with different stock roms (4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.2.2) and with different custom roms (paranoid android, android revolution) and the problem persists. all is left to try is changing the kernel but i don't think this will fix the problem.
Try the factory reset through bootloader...that often helps of flash again a firmware...it also wipes and that helps also often... But at thirst if you flash a kernel be sure to flash always the kernel from the Rom..
..otherwise those issues will appear

Download THIS RUU 3.14.401.31 and run it fallow the instruction. Report back
EDIT: Now I see you are ENDEAVORU XE not PVT this is problem try mannualy update the firmware and run sfter this this rRUU where I give you if didunt help go back to ICS surch for RUU 2.17.401.2 in google
First off, S-off phone
So, I've been running the GPE rom posted by Joel for a while now with no issues... Today a friend wanted to see the phone, so I pulled it out of my pocket; hit power; nadda...
So I held power down for a while; got teh HTC screen; then nadda.
So we then attempted to get into recovery, power + vol down then selected recovery... Nadda, just a black screen.
I then redownloaded TWRP and fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img, it tries to push it then it'll throw an error saying: "remote: image update error"
I looked around and found a thread with full directions with an RUU.. So I tried doing that, hwoever after clearing the cache via fastboot, when I try to do fastboot oem rebootRUU nothing happens.... sometimes teh screen goes blank, sometimes not.
Anything else I can try? I'm really wondering if it isn't defective hardware... .only had it 2 weeks too...

i was going to say the same thing. not sure how but i sometimes pull the phone out of my pocket with the screen on... so who knows which programs could have been tapped and running if it's bumping around in your pocket.
This is one of the reasons Verizon requires locked bootloaders now on all their phones. If the phone isn't even turning on, your first step should never be to try flashing a custom recovery or RUU (?!). If the phone has no charge and dies in the process, you could potentially brick it for good.
Sorry if that came across harsh, but... honestly, try charging your phone overnight first.

Guess I should have put more details in the first post... when I got it into TWRP the first time it showed an 88% charge. I attempted to restore a backup and inside the recovery it would say it failed reading the memory and then it couldn't browse anything.
If I attempted to simply factory reset inside the recovery it would just lock up. If I tried to flash a rom via zip, it would lock up...
After a few times of rebooting it into the recovery I couldn't even click anything inside it without locking up.
it was at that point I tried to flash a different recovery and started getting the errors...
Anyways, more I researched it simply was a bad phone with defective hardware.
all good...
Hi,
I'm having a lot of issues with my HTC One X (endeavoru).
It started a few days ago while i was still using stock rom and had made no changes, all of a sudden my phone died and wouldn't start, it would just freeze on the HTC Quietly brilliant screen. After dozens of restarts sometimes it would actually start but just die randomly again.
I decided that i would try to install a new ROM and see if i could get it working again.
I unlocked the bootloader and flashed recovery with CWM 5.8.4.0 and then i proceeded to install ViperX 4.0.7 using the steps in their thread which worked well for a few hours but then the phone died a couple of times after i unlocked the screen and sometimes i would get a lot error messages about processes stopping and then it would die again, it was often gapps that stopped working.
I re-installed ViperX with the steps in their thread and the phone again worked for a couple of hours until the same thing happened again.
I proceeded to format cache, data, system and sdcard, fastboot erase cache, flashed the boot.img and then erased cache again.
Went into CWM and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats then i transfered then rom.zip and installed it from CWM.
The phone worked for almost 24hrs before it died after unlocking the screen again.
I have done chkdsk from my PC with mount USB storage in CWM and it does not find any errors.
Does anyone have any tips for what more i can do? It seems the phone works for a couple of hours after i wipe everything and flash the rom and install it again.
This is how my bootloader looks

Thanks for the reply!
The battery is almost 2 years old.
Hmm... It might be a possibility but i know i've had plenty of battery (shown at least) some of the times when it has died/restarted after i unlock the screen and just to be clear it dies / restarts after i drag the lock in the bottom to unlock the screen, i'm not using any password and it's not when i press the power button to light up the screen because that seems to always work.
Take out the SIMcard and try it without for a while. Could be a faulty SIM !

Thanks!
I will run it without SIM tonight, will report back tomorrow or when it fails
Thanks for all of the replies and tips, unfortunately it died completely before i had a chance to run it without SIM and it would not start or go to bootloader, just a black screen.
No warranty on it and the glass was cracked, i failed while trying to open it up to replace the glass and disconnect and re-connect the battery and now it's physically broken.
This thread can be closed, i think i will pick up the Xperia Z2 when it comes out in about a month.
Oki, shame tho.....well we all did our best. Good luck on a new device !
Hello all
Apologies in advance for the quality of this question, it's by no means particularly technical. I have searched quite extensively but I can't seem to find the answer ... at least, the answer I want! I have a suspicion it's the end of the line for this phone but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
It's my Dad's M9, UK/Vodafone spec. It's never been modified, rooted, customised. He messaged me a couple of days ago to say he had a report of "com.android.settings" stopping and he was unable to access the phone settings. After some quick searching the phone was rebooted, followed by a factory reset (boot into recovery, as settings didn't work). The phone now fails to boot, stopping at the HTC logo forever. I have tried all the button combinations I can find, volume up + power to simulate a battery pull (this reboots the phone, but it goes right back to the same point and freezez), volume down and power, into recovery, cache format and factory reset, this then goes through the motions of "Android Starting .... optimizing 218 of 218) and then stays there forever, requiring another battery pull.
My last thoughts were to flash a stock ROM in the hope of returning it to factory settings that way, but every one I have tried fails. The latest failure was 12_ZIP_FAIL or something similar, which I read is to do with it being S-ON ? What I'm gathering from all this is, I can't flash it because it's not unlocked, I can't unlock it because it won't boot, I can't boot it because it needs a flash... I'm now at the mercy of the XDA community. Is there any way back or is this phone for the trash? Details here :

Hi there
I did vol + - and power, I get :
*** Software status: Official ***
*** LOCKED ***
*** S-ON ***
I can then reboot, reboot to bootloader, boot to download mode or boot to recovery mode. Or power down.
Error 12 has nothing to do with the phone being S-ON. Please read the ReadMe thread, carefully. You don't need to be unlocked for flashing RUUs. The thread contains explanations for the most common RUU errors, the correct RUU for the phone and flashing instructions.
Due to the bootloader still showing "Official" and not "Modified" with a "Security Warning" I don't think that this phone suffers from a dead nand. Therefore, it should be recoverable.
