It could be done using zipthemer by zipthemeing the theme .apk itself.. But i might have to build an individual zipthemer package for each theme chooser theme.. you can PM me the name of the theme's .apk then ill send the modified zipthemer package..

Looks awesome! Definitely subbed. Does this affect longpress time for recent apps?

Looks nice! Though, I gotta say, I've used a Galaxy S2 for over 6 months, and seeing its buttons brings back bad memories D:
I'll be sticking with stock softkeys for now, but keep up the good work!
can you do it in blue?
This would go good with Touchwiz theme chooser but can this still be applied on an already modified Nav bar that comes with touchwiz theme chooser

Is the navigation bar option present? If not then cyanogen may haven't include the navbar option yet.. you have to wait until they release it or use another rom that have the navbar option..

Samsung Galaxy S II (Skyrocket) SoftKeys
For all of us who once had a SGS2 and wants to have the same navigation keys as on that phone, or at least try it out. I always liked the menu key on it the best.
These keys are built from a high-res pic I found of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, it has Menu, Home, Search, Recent and Back.
Landscape PNG's are included.
There's no "menu" key, only "MENU_BIG", usable in AOKP.
This is now a ZipTheme/MetaMorph file. If you want to extract the files and do a systemUI.apk update instead, it can be done via this file as well.
If you plan to use my softkey-set for a themerelease, please let me know and remember to mention me in the thread.
I know this is only softkeys, but even if you find a way to make profit of these, please don't.

Big thanks to atticus182 for helping me out with an easy way to do a ZipTheme.zip.
atticus182 said:
Installation Methods (Method 1 Recommended)
Straight from your Galaxy Nexus
1. Easiest Method
*** ZipThemer *** Does not work on AOKP build 19, please try MetaMorph instead!
Download and install ZipThemer from the Market
Download a Softkey Style using the ZipThemer link in the First Post, and open up ZipThemer on your phone
If this is the first time using ZipThemer, hit the (hidden) menu key -> Hit "Update Edify" -> Hit "Browse" (pick a file that you have flashed before on your phone, like your ROM or a theme) -> Hit "Configure" -> Then hit the 'back' softkey to return to the main screen.
Click the "+Theme" button, browse to the download folder and select the .zip you have just downloaded using the ZipThemer link in the First Post, probably /sdcard/download
Click the "Build It!" button, and when it prompts if you want to make an "undo-zip", click "Always"
You will now see the output screen with the Build Log, check if everything went alright, it will show that a zip file has been created on /sdcard/
Reboot your phone to Recovery after this and flash the .zip file that is created on /sdcard/
Done! If you experience problems or want to undo the action just flash the "undo-zip" that's also located on /sdcard/
*** MetaMorph *** Does not work on ARHD, please try one of the methods below instead!
Download and install MetaMorph from the Market, open it at least once so that the folder AndroidThemes will be created on /sdcard/
Download a Softkey Style using the MetaMorph link and move this .zip file to /sdcard/AndroidThemes using your favorite file explorer
Open MetaMorph, choose "Unzip/Extract new theme" and select the .zip file you downloaded. A popup screen will appear, meaning it has been extracted. Press the "Close" button.
Hit the "Apply all!" button and wait +/- 5 seconds (nothing will happen)
Reboot your phone immediately after this and you're done! Oh, and set a new wallpaper because it may be restored to default..
2. Advanced (Hard) Method - Edit the SystemUI.apk from your phone - thanks to bangdrum! Not working for everybody!
Download and install Root Explorer from the Market and make a Nandroid backup
Download the softkeymod you like
Open Root Explorer and navigate to /system/app/, find SystemUI.apk, long press, and select extract. Go to the folder sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted and make sure you have a folder that's called SystemUI
If the folder is there navigate to where you downloaded the chosen softkeymod (usually sdcard/download) and long press it. Select extract all. Go to sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted and there should be a folder with the name of the softkeymod.
Click on this folder, and also on the next. Hit the menu key and press 'Multi Select'. Highlight all the images included in the folder and select 'Move' at the bottom. Navigate back to the SystemUI folder, go to SystemUI/res/drawable-xhdpi and 'Paste' here. A command prompt should pop up asking to replace the current images. Select 'Yes For All'
Go back to the sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted folder, long press the SystemUI folder and select 'Create ZIP'
Rename the created SystemUI.zip to SystemUi.apk and move the SystemUI.apk to your /system/app folder. Change permissions of SystemUI.apk to rw-r--r--
Reboot your Galaxy Nexus (pull battery out and reboot, this is an essential step) and your softkeys will be modded!
Using your Computer
3. Manual Method - Images using Updater Script
Download THIS Updater Script
Extract the SystemUI.apk from your current ROM from /system/app
Open the SystemUI.apk with WinRAR and navigate to /res/drawable-xhdpi
Add the images you downloaded from this thread into this folder, it will overwrite the original icons
Open the downloaded updater script and drag your SystemUI.apk into the /system/app folder, replacing the current file which is just a placeholder
Flash using recovery, done!
4. Automatic Method - Images using Softkey Modder - thanks to mlbvsnba!
Download THIS Softkey Modder
Place the downloaded softkey images into the "PUT_IMAGES_HERE" folder
Connect your phone to your computer
Make sure USB debugging is enabled (located in Settings --> Developer options)
Run/Open "Create Flashable Zip.bat"
Answer yes ("y") to both transfer prompts (or transfer the zips yourself)
Flash the modded (or original) zip through CWM (a.k.a. Rom Manager) **Do NOT wipe anything!** and enjoy!

regular zip has been replaced by ZipThemer ready file.
hmmmm...the zipthemer file didn't work for me.
this is my first ziptheme so maybe i did something wrong, but i followed the directions in the first post and it created the 2 files. everything seemed to work just fine, flashed it in recovery (using CWM touch based recovery, maybe that has something to do with it) but nothing changed.
anyone know if ninjamorph will work? i am VERY comfortable with that app. may take a little longer, but if i know it will work, i would use that every time.

Nah, I just tried it myself.. Reflashed the image of my theme, with the normal keys in them.. And then used thst file as the build as stated.. And build it with the keys in. Update and undo zips are just fine, the systemui.apk has all images, but it doesnt replace the keys for me, neither. I will investigate further.. - Are you using a theme, mate? I'm asking you because if you do, I have an easy work around for you. PM me an answer.
Woops, I checked out Ninjamorph. And yes, if you can make it work, it should be fine. Basically you just extract the 10 images from my zip, then in Ninjamorph, navigate to system/app/systemUI.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi and put the 10 images there. If you can do that, you're golden. I managed to open my systemUI.apk, but didn't know how to get to other things, once in there, lol. But if you know how to use the app, just put my 10 images into the drawable-xhdpi folder.

Original thread with all links, I picked the ones which are for our device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363239
To follow this guide you must have:
HTC Wildfire S, Rooted, Unlocked Bootloader, Clockworkmod Recovery flashed.
Cyanogenmod 7.2 (any will do, normal or latest nightly.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494480
External SD card, Any size (larger than 512mb)
Your Cyanogenmod 7.2 ZIP, where the rom is in.
1.
Download This theme. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329375
Put the .APK (that is in the .ZIP file on your sd card, and install it with a File manager (download on market, i recommend astro or ES).
Apply the theme using the default app Theme Chooser (Cyanogenmod 7 only)
Fast link: http://www.mediafire.com/?dvws5vklawykap8
2.
Go to your theme chooser after installing the APK and select the theme.
If you like it already you can stop now, but if you want a real feel to it, i recommend installing the layouts and framework animations.
3.
To install the custom layouts, go to this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316574
Follow the video in that thread, and flash the .ZIP you get from it with Clockworkmod recovery. (MAKE A BACKUP FIRST)
EDIT:(feb 19)
Here's some links to the files already flashed, but i'm not sure if they work on all cm7 versions (i use a nightly not the normal one).
Just put on your SD card and flash with clockworkmod manager, the unpatch file is also there if you need it.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60852825/ics_patch.zip
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60852825/ics_undo.zip
Download both just in case it goes wrong.
Also make a NANDROID Backup.
4.
To install the ROBOTO font of ICS, download this.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bn9er8dhm8wrh9k
And flash it with Clockworkmod Recovery.
5.
Install GO launcher ex, and then install this theme from the market.

Scroll down to ro.build.version.release and edit it to something like 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich
You can also edit ro.modversion to something like Cyanogenmod 9.10 RC2.

I can't do that because it's mostly apps. But I could make a custom cm7 ROM like the miui one where it's all pre installed.
I do have the status bar layout zip if you want it, but I don't know if it works on all versions of cyanogenmod.
I am going to sleep now, and see if I can put all the flash zips into one tomorrow

Hi,
when applying your theme on CM7.2 KANGO (latest nightly), colors/background in application Tasker are out of control (just doesn't look so good anymore) + some settings does have BLACK text on GREY background (it's not very readable). And thanks for custom layouts, it works (my wife's WildFire almost looks and behave like my Galaxy S with ICS ;-) )
thx . awesome!

I'm not sure about anything in tasker, I'll download the app now and look at the problems.
Its on the Wildfire S right, and if its not is it on a MDPI phone?

Hey again,
Isnt it black-grey because you/your wife played with the theme settings?
Try changing things there, and it should work.
On default it all works for me.
I have started creating a custom CM7 rom that will have all this pre-included, plus the crappy gallery removed and added quickpic.
Hi, no, she wasn't playing with any settings, she better doesn't even touch it Actually when applying any other theme, it's fine. Now she is on Cyanbread and it's totally ok. It's really Wildfire S. Don't know what could be the problem....

Hello, I bring to you probably the MOST good looking/sexiest/awesomest/amazing-est softkeys I have ever made or even seen.
Inspired by the Samsung Wave's Capacitive Touchkeys and touched up by me. All keys are MADE by me and designed by me.
Keys in package - Home, Back, Tasks, Big Menu, Small Menu, Search, Keyboard Back (Jelly Bean)
It is highly recommend that you use CWM recovery to flash the package. Some members have informed that there are low chances of the patch being successfully patched by other recoveries.
NEW JELLY BEAN VERSION (3) IS UP WITH THE KEYBOARD BACK/DOWN KEY AND BETTER COMPATIBILITY
You can flash version 3 on ICS, it won't harm
I RECOMMEND YOU USE THE ZIPTHEMER VERSION, USE THE FLASHABLE ZIP ONLY IF ZIPTHEMER DOESN'T WORK
PEOPLE ON ODEXED ROM, DO NOT FLASH THE .ZIP, USE ZIPTHEMER INSTEAD OR MANUALLY REPLACE THE IMAGES IN YOUR SYSTEMUI.APK
THE EASIEST WAY TO INSTALL IT THROUGH SOFTKEYZ FROM THE PLAYSTORE
You no longer need to download the keys. Just download SoftkeyZ from the playstore and find the zenyth keys in the app. Just click on thanks to appreciate my work! Donations are most welcome, need em! Thanks!
Instructions to Install - [Flashable Zip]
Put package into your internal storage.
Flash package through recovery
[ZipThemer] -
1. Download and install ZipThemer from the Market
2. Download the Softkey Set
4. Click the "+Theme" button, browse to the download folder and select the .zip you have just downloaded using the ZipThemer link in the First Post, probably /sdcard/download
5. Click the "Build It!" button, and when it prompts if you want to make an "undo-zip", click "Always"
6. You will now see the output screen with the Build Log, check if everything went alright, it will show that a zip file has been created on /sdcard/
7. Reboot your phone to Recovery after this and flash the .zip file that is created on /sdcard/
8. Done! If you experience problems or want to undo the action just flash the "undo-zip" that's also located on /sdcard/

Close Winrar, you now have updated your soft keys on your favorite rom
Copy your favorite rom to your phone
Boot into Recovery, Wipe cache-dalvik, Flash rom, Install gapps (Certain JB roms needed when flashing-update), Reboot
Enjoy your new Soft Keys!
To Install on Paranoid Android -
just some manual work needed
1. Make a backup.. you never know
2. Pull "SystemUI.apk" from "/system/app/"
3. Download flashable version of zenyth keys
4. Open "Zenyth - ICS Blue - Flashable - v3.zip" (Or w/e version)
5. Go to "vrtheme\system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-xhdpi" and extract all images from there to some folder
6. Open the folder where the image files are put
7. Open "SystemUI.apk" with some file extractor (i used winrar)
8. Navigate to "\res". you will find three "drawable"-folders ending with "xhdpi"

--> sw720dp: tablet
--> just drawable: phone
9. Put the extracted images in the corresponding folders
10. I hope you made a backup! i am not to blame for any fail

What does it do?
Changes the Glow Effect when you press the on-screen button.
Description
This mod change only the Softkey's Glow Effect. everything else is left untouched, so you won't lose any previously installed mods. Should work on rooted deodexed JellyBean ROM, including AOSP, CM10, virtually anything (for gnex of course) and should be fine with any dpi.
Always make a backup before proceeding!
TO MAKE THIS MOD MORE WIDELY COMPATIBLE WITH MORE ROMS I RECOMMEND TO USE THE ZIPTHEMER VERSION
Instruction (ZipThemer)
Requires: Flashable .zip of the ROM that you currently use (Must be on your SDCARD)
1. Download 'ZipThemer' app from play store
2. Download the ZipThemer version of my mods
3. Open the app, click on the menu button, then press 'Update Edify'
4. Click 'Browse' then navigate to the flashable .zip of the ROM that you have on the SDCARD
5. Click 'Configure' (small toast message will appear that says 'Success')
6. Go back to the main screen, click on '+Theme'
7. Navigate to my mods that you have downloaded earlier from step 2
8. Then click on the 'Build It!' button. it will then prompt if you want to make an undo file, just press ok just in case.
9. It will build the flashable .zip. when done it will show the Build Log, showing where the flashable zip located.
10. Boot to recovery and flash the rebuilted .zip
11. Profit

2. Rename the copied theme to tc-modded.apk (to simplified the installation of my mods)
3. Uninstall the theme from user apps (for those who havent installed the theme you may skip this step)
4. Reinstall the renamed theme in system/app
5. Download the Zip Themer for Theme Chooser of my mods
6. Open the app, click on the menu button, then press 'Update Edify'

10. Navigate to my mods that you have downloaded earlier from step 5
11. Then click on the 'Build It!' button. it will then prompt if you want to make an undo file, just press ok just in case.
12. It will build the flashable .zip. when done it will show the Build Log, showing where the flashable zip located.
13. Boot to recovery and flash the rebuilted .zip
14. Reboot
15. Choose the modified Theme Chooser Theme
16. Profit
Note: To restore the default Theme Chooser mods, simply reboot to recovery and flash the Undo file. The theme will go back to its default state

Click to collapse
Doesn't work? Read advanced instructions below..
1. Extract the downloaded file
2. Navigate to \vrtheme\system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-xhdpi
3. There you'll find ic_sysbar_highlight.png and ic_sysbar_highlight_land.png those are the modded softkey background, keep it open in your explorer.
4. Now extract SystemUI.apk from your phone (using adb, or copy it manually using root explorer) and put it on your desktop
5. Open the extracted SystemUI.apk using winrar and navigate to res/drawable-xhdpi
6. Replace both the stock ic_sysbar_highlight.png and ic_sysbar_highlight_land.png with the one from Step 3 (drag and drop, and press ok)
7. Push your SystemUI.apk back to your phone and reboot
Side Note
- If it keeps loading at 'Starting Apps' just wait for it
- On select ROM with costumizable navigation bar, if it had an option to change the glow color it will overrides the default one, but you cant change back to default color that comes with it
Workaround by setting Navigation Glow Color in ROM Control to #0000000 (transparent)

If it's still not working perhaps you might have to replace it manually.. open the SystemUI.apk using winrar, navigate to res/drawable-xhdpi and replace both navbar highlight .pngs with the one inside my mods..
If this doesn't work nothing will do..
Perhaps a more experienced themer could advice?

If you look inside my flashable zip It's in vrtheme/system/app/SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi
Look for ic_sysbar_highlight.png and ic_sysbar_highlight_land.png those are the navbar background effects that i change..
There you can extract the pngs and put it inside your SystemUI.apk manually..
I'm sure this is the most foolproof way of doing it..

Works beautifully on stock deodexed JB!

Really should use ZipThemer for this mod. Vr theme makes extra drawable folders in your system apps. Not cool. That's why I stopped using it for my themes.
.....memoirs of a flash addict.
I am proud to present you my collection of Softkeys for the Google LG Nexus 4
I'd be grateful if you want to press the Thanks button if you're going to use these Softkeys!
Read this before you apply these buttons!
- If your ROM doesn't have a built-in Search or Big Menu softkey, then these images won't be used on your phone, it will only show Back, Home & Recent
- You need a rooted phone otherwise none of these methods will work! Stock rooted combined with ZipThemer works for most people, MetaMorph not always so preferably use ZipThemer
- The buttons will be a little less bright on your phone due to a layer of alpha transparency over them when you're not pressing them.
- IT IS ALWAYS RECOMMENDED TO DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING THESE SOFTKEY MODS!

Installation Methods
*** AOKP ***
Go to the Dropbox page of the style of your preference
Download the images you need from the folder and save them (probably to /sdcard/download)
Fire up Settings -> Rom Control -> Navigation Bar and select the images you just downloaded
Done!
*** Paranoid Android ***
Download one of the Softkey themes that starts with MMZT_
Make a backup of your ROM in Recovery
Extract SystemUI.apk from your ROM (located in /system/app) using your favorite File Explorer App with Root access
Open SystemUI.apk and put each image from the MMZT_ file (located in /res/drawable-xhdpi) downloaded in the following folders located at /res (replace the existing images): drawable-sw600dp-xhdpi drawable-sw720dp-xhdpi drawable-sw1000dp-xhdpi and drawable-xhdpi
Paste new SystemUI.apk into /system/app using your favorite File Explorer App with Root access
*** ZipThemer (Recommended, Failsafe) ***
Here's a full guide with pictures etc! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202482
Download one of the Softkey themes that starts with MMZT_
Open ZipThemer. If this is the first time using ZipThemer then you have to select "Update Edify", "Browse", and select the .zip of the ROM you're currently using (this identifies the update script and needed files, if you're using a flashed theme on top of your ROM then please select the theme instead of the ROM) and press "Configure"
Go back to the main menu and press "+Theme", select the downloaded MMZT_ file and press "Build It!". Select "Always" on the popup prompt to make a backup in case it doesn't work or you want to undo
Boot into recovery, and flash the zip on the root of your /sdcard/ like any other flashable ROM/Theme
Wipe your Cache and Dalvik Cache just to be sure nothing weird happens on reboot
Reboot your phone after this and you're done!
If it somehow still fails just flash the "undo-zip" using steps 4-6
*** MetaMorph (Easier but riskier than ZipThemer) ***
Download and install MetaMorph from the Market
Launch MetaMorph at least once so that the folder AndroidThemes will be created on /sdcard/. (You can also create the folder manually if it doesn't)

You just copied the ones from the Galaxy Nexus Thread without links back to the Creators?

I am the creator mike, and I chose to only copy the ones that I made myself, because it's a lot of work to maintain the others and don't make mistakes in the 'copyright' part

On the stock ROM (rooted, ofc) I wouldn't be able to see the search and menu buttons? I only ask because I don't really care for skinning the nav bar, I just want my damn search button back.
nice, thanks for share.

Nope, sorry. You'll have to wait for either a stock ROM mod that enables these buttons, or consider upgrading to the CM10 nightly, or wait for an AOKP release for the Nexus 4!
Thanks!!! working via metamorph
Note:Make a backup of systemui.apk just in case you guys have any problems

were is this cm10 nightly you speak of?
Ah I was mislead by the "CM10 Nightlies on TF700, Nexus 4 / 10, and Android 4.2 Announced – XDA Developer TV" title. 'scuze me! We still have to wait a while for that then I guess.. That, and AOKP
Woohoo great news, just ordered a Nexus 4 on eBay!
It's only the 8GB version and I had to pay €420 for it, but hey it's not coming to The Netherlands before 2013 so I don't care about the price tag
I expect it to arrive next week, I'll continue working on my Softkey Collection then!
Hey! I had a soft key skin on my gnex that had the basic 3 stock ones in blue with also blue glow BUT the center home button with this icon there below, do you think it would be possible to make one just like I described? Just wondering no pressure!

Is there a way to change the order of the soft keys? I'd really like to have it as back-home-apps-search if possible.
Two quick questions:
1) Does the Metamorph method work on stock ODEX ROM?
2) If I've already flashed the 1% battery mod, can I still use the Metamorph method? Or does it replace the entire SystemUI thereby overwriting my 1% battery mod?

Only if you install AOKP (not sure if CM also supports this)

1, Probably, but not sure
2, Yes, it only inserts the files into SystemUI.apk
I tried the metamorph method on the cm 11/29 nightly but after rebooting nothing changed.
do these include the down arrow to hide keybaord? mine is still the regular style after flashing with metamorph
I'd love ones with only the three buttons, but in the pixelated text and Roboto v2 forms, if you don't mind.
