I love the pure Google experience and I hate the touchwiz or any other skin. And when I say hate I mean like I will never buy or use it again. Anyway was running ICS and it was great but battery life a few other bugs it just never felt like it was meant to run on the phone. So I'm in Miami and maybe lte is around corner was going to sell for a nexus and would give up 4g. Now also must say I have a few sprint phones and the epic by far has always had the worst 3g 4g speeds. Only time it was OK was on el26. Have a nexus s 4g and it blows it out of the water side by side.
So the day I was going to sell and get a gal nex I tried jb ROM on the nexus s 4g and man did it make things better. Then I knew on the epic the Roms had the Los issue but man does it fly. It is perfect to me. All I do is keep on the wifi and never get Los (while connected to WiFi). I feel a perfect jb ROM is near and snappy is the word.
The sad part is phones barely have ICS and by the time job gets up to speed something else will be out. My main fear is another nexus being delayed and exclusive again. Google can't really keep screwing things up iPhone 5 will be very tempting for a lot of people.

Ahhh the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4s with a few new apps and a new name. Same size screen, still no 4g and same old glass case designed to break the first time it falls off your desk so you have to buy a new one. Shattered case? Not covered by warranty I think ill stick with android and a choice, I don't like being told what I'm supposed to like and what I'm allowed to do with something I own, oh yeah when you buy and apple product you don't own it you just paid to borrow it, they still control what you can do with it  lol. You Miami folks should be seeing LTE by January at the latest, coverage should begin spreading in the next month or so and continue thru January when the whole locale should be upgraded and ready to go live.
We are legion, for we are many.

It shouldn't have anything to do with your ROM... Your modem speeds and signal strength are related directly to which modem you're using, and the towers around you. That said, FH13 modem was a colossal improvement in terms of reliability here in Detroit (compared to all previous ics modems)

I feel like that's a big fat placebo effect. I've gone back and forth from GB to ICS to JB, trying out different modems, and they've all been consistent in garbage speeds. Even FH13 is garbage speed, but it much more consistently gives me a "decent" connection than all the other modems, regardless of what ROM I was on

The 2 best looking phones there IMO is the evolution 3d and the epic touch the evo design my cousin and her boyfriend have and they have lot of problems. But if I had to pick I would wait a little longer because the galaxy nexus is coming to sprint if you look on their main page

If it had to be a now thing.. can't go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S ll, Epic 4G Touch. However... I am in the same boat (new phone time!), but I am waiting to see what they announce this quarter and the future of LTE.
Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and San Antonio are slated to be the first to go LTE, so if you are in those areas it might behoove you to see what comes out. Right now the Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper are upcoming LTE phones.
I'm leaning toward the Epic 4G Touch as LTE means nothing to me. My area doesn't even have WiMAX (now it never will). And from what I read, the E4GT will get official ICS Q1 2012 anyway. That right there pretty much evens the playing field between the two phones.
Still interested in hearing your opinions though.
Levels the playing field?
What about the fact that Gnex is pure Google without the ugly Twiz UI? And will get regular updates thru Google ?

Is that "feature" alone enough to justify a probable $100 price premium for the Gnex vs E4GT? For me, it's not.

My only complaint is pentile display but its no biggie any more.

[Article] Sprint's network sucks (nothing that wasn't known before)
On a serious note, the speeds were about the same on 3g and wifi.
Nexus had slightly faster uploads on 3g/wifi. E4GT had slightly faster download avg on 3g. They are roughly tied for download on wifi. None of the numbers were very impressive, but that is the fault of the network rather than the phone.
Further supports my decision to stick with the E4GT for now. I need to be blown away in order to even contemplate switching.
Thanks to qbking for the video and sfhub for the recap.

Debatable.
While we will always take better download speeds, upload is used when browsing the web etc as well so having a better balance between them could give better real world usage results.

See I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, I never seem to struggle with my data connection unless I'm just in the middle of the boondocks (and in Alabama, that could be anywhere lol) and typically at that point I'm driving, not trying to browse the web. Around town and the cities where my family lives and I visit often I always get a quick connection so, again, just not enough of a difference for me. But for others it might be more than enough.
The overall specs of the Nexus just don't seem like a huge step up from the E4GT, not nearly enough for me to jump on it without waiting to see what else might be in store in the nearish future (SGSIII).

There's no doubt that, if you don't need a new phone now, waiting for the SGS3 is going to be a better decision.
But, if you have the money or whatever, going from the SGS2 to the Galaxy Nexus IS a bit of a spec bump.

If I recall correctly the GPU in the Galaxy Nexus is a bit better.
But yes, LTE and Screen are the two noticable upgrades.
LTE will be relatively significant by the end of the year and into next...
And I can only conclude that the screen upgrade is huge for a lot of people since SO many people buy phones based on the screen.
A pure Google experience with on screen buttons (with no need to root and flash) is also apart of the package.

Father's Day is coming, so is the S3 and Evo LTE. My contract expired in April and I'm eligible for an upgrade. So my wife asked me, do you want me to gift you the S3...
I am perfectly happy with the S2 and beside the NFC of S3 I'm not too thrilled. The question is: (a) get the S3 or wait for something special might pop up around Christmas time?
I would get the s3. Even just to play around with on wifi if you want to use your e4gt still. I plan to do this, as I get (ok) wimaxx but am not anywhere near any of the first roll out areas for lte. Just my suggestion. This phone is great, but I want to play with that new too lol. If you are near lte tho then it is no question. S3 imo.

It's the next "big thing" so I would get it unless you are considering the iPhone 5. You could always get it and sell it on Craigslist for like $600 and keep your S2.
I don't know, the ET4g and sprint in general have left a bad taste in my mouth with radio issues... I'm thinking my next phone will be a HTC or maybe a moto.

My strategy is, IF I get the s3 (kinda doubtful), the decision that would make the most sense, would be to WAIT until LTE is fully deployed and active in your area. If not, you will be stuck on 3g for quite a while until it happens, whenever that might be. Don't be in a rush. I know how hard that is to practice when you're a xda kind of person, but that makes the most sense to me on many areas. So many people are very frustrated with 3g performance lately, it wouldn't be logical to force yourself into that mode for god knows how long. For me, the deal breaker is the camera with the not such a big deal improvements done to it. Yes, faster camera is better but no substantial improvements with low light, better f stop, I will pass. When I had it, I loved the iPhone 4s camera, but the cons outweighed the pros IMO. Even if you have to wait up to another year for LTE, the s4 might be around then and I would hope that one would be a lot better than the 3. With my experiences with a couple of htcs, they are too temperature sensative and prone to hardware failure issues when compared to all the samsungs I've owned. I'm not a Samsung fan either, I've just had much less problems with them and they're much easier to do custom things to like rooting and roms.
Besides, you said it yourself, you're happy with what you have already. Also, pentile s3 screen, eww.
Well if you know you want that phone get it asap so your new contract starts being used asap.... Means new upgrade sooner down the road. I just got mine in October or whenever the iphone came out. Personally the s3 and the galaxy nexus are the only two phones that I would consider over the et4g. As you can tell I am alittle partial to Samsung as all my previous phones who weren't Samsung I've had problems with excluding the HTC sensation

Having played with a galaxy s3 in the mall, I'd say go with that. Read that section in the forum to see what issues there are. After going from a 4s to the e4gt, I miss the 4s camera and the better quality sounding audio output. I've had this one for nine months now and the screen burn in is getting on my nerves. Going to pen tile displays was samsung's choice for screen lasting longer and less apt to burning. I didn't notice a screen door effect on the s3 either. Even though the cameras are virtually the same, I can see how having a faster focus helps in certain situations with the s3. Its low light is noisy though like lots have mentioned.
