ADB won't start? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble having Android Debugging start on my phone.
I enabled Debugging in the Development section, but there's no notification in the tray.
Yes the cables plugged in. I just finished flashing a rooted FF18 image using Odin, so the drivers I installed while rooting my GNexus work.
While installing CWM, it doesn't recognize any device plugged in.
I think it's a device error, but there's not much I can do since I'm on FF18.
If someone can link me a Odin-able .Tar, i'd be much obliged.
Or if there's a secret trick that's not available on any of the 4 android phone i've owned before for putting it in ADB mode.

Disable usb debugging and connect the phone to the computer, can you use usb storage or mtp option to transfer files?

Yeah
I don't get USB storage though...
I don't have an SD card in my phone, and there's no way to unmount USB storage. So is internal storage unmountable?

Yeah,

Very odd. Have you tried a different cable?
Also have you rebooted the phone since enabling debug mode? I have had to do that before to get it to recognize.

Cable works fine, It's my charging cable I use on a nightly basis. I also just rooted my phone with it. It's a high quality HTC
And I have rebooted. No dice
I'm going to re-install the drivers.

I would still try another cable to make sure. I have seen and read the same thing before about the cable charging and stuff but a new cable fixed communication issues.

Shoulda known, S.M.A.R.T kept reading my 2nd Misc disk as having a couple bad sectors.

Access Storage from computer?

I plugged my epic 4g touch into my computer via usb cable and i dont see any drives in "my computer" that i can access the data... is this normal without a SD card???

nevermind i just realized in device manager it has a ! and I had to have it search for drivers again. for some reason the drivers failed to install the first time
You should see something, because there is built in storage. When I plug mine in it shows 2 because I have a sd card and the regular internal.
I only get 'MTP-Connected'; no drive letters.

That's how it's supposed to work, the internal storage doesn't mount as a disk like an SD card, you browse it like a device. Just navigate to your devices. This would look familiar to anyone who has a galaxy tab, it's the same way.

No you don't. Read above post.
Dont you have to click the notification and click on Connect USB to Computer, then hit the big button that say CONNECT? this is how im doing it.
at first the Drive letters would pop up but I could not see anything in the folders when I tried to open the drives, but on my phone after I do the USB to PC connect it then gives me access to the files.
If you want to see it as a usb drive, yes you do. If you're just using it as MTP, then no you don't.

When I plug into my ps3, in order to be able to see files I have to go under wireless and network then into usb utilities. There isn't an option that automatically shows up in the pull down menu. Will that change once I insert an sd card?

Drivers
You have 2 options
You can download the drivers referenced here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307478
I had to enable USB Debugging to get it to work correctly with Windows 7.
But after that you can access both the SD card and the internal memory on the phone through Windows Explorer
Or you can use the Kies software and do it wirelessly. Details here:

I have no problems using a 32 bit PC - but with 64 bit Window's professional, it is as if the phone were only connected to power. Companion link synch program overcomes this problem -- apparently it installs its own drivers and after doing a usb synch to outlook, I am able to use windows to transfer files between the galaxy S 2 (t989) and windows. However I have not found any drivers that permit the Samsung to connect to the Windows 7 using usb cable w/o using companion link first.
I had the same problem and samsung tech support had me pull the battery for 30 seconds. That did the trick, but it has happened once since.

Broken Screen

Hi I just got my replacement GS2 after breaking the screen on my last one. I was wondering if there was a way to pull the pictures from the old one and move it to the new phone with using the screen? It turns on but I can't use the screen at all.

Yes, you can use the USB cable and connect to your PC, and pull them off of your phone on to your computer
Then unplug the old one, plug in your new one, and transfer to your SD card.

It should be fairly easy for you then.. you just have to "push" the files within the /sdcard folder to your PC
If you need guidance you can Google, or wait until I get home and I will research for you and post a tutorial.

I do it manually. Pop my micro sd card into the usb slot on my macbook and use finder to copy files over. I'm using neutron music player so it handles my mp3 and m4a/alac lossless files with no problem.
There's a couple apps that try to automate this but my collection doesn't change a lot so I found this approach easier.

I use TuneSync. It will allow wired or wireless syncing of music from iTunes to your android device. Fairly simple to set up.
Here is the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5oaWdod2luZHNvZnR3YXJlLnR1bmVzeW5jIl0.
Easy phone tunes is the best one I used so far. I haven't upgraded to mountain lion so not sure if it compatible. However the only annoying thing is that you can only sync everything or 1 playlist. But it's super fast so I guess that makes up for the lack of functions.

Yeah I tried that. I even tried the sdcard.org site but for some reason my sd card wasn't recognized! I have a mac so I just used disc utility. The funny thing is, I formatted the card, dragged my ring tones to the card and tested. They showed up, so I dragged the rest of it over. My stuff disappeared and wasn't seen in the gallery, but was in root explorer.
Is there a folder or file or something that determines the formatting? I have a lost.dir folder that comes up and I have no idea why.
