Access Storage from computer? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I plugged my epic 4g touch into my computer via usb cable and i dont see any drives in "my computer" that i can access the data... is this normal without a SD card???
---------- Post added at 03:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:43 PM ----------
nevermind i just realized in device manager it has a ! and I had to have it search for drivers again. for some reason the drivers failed to install the first time

You should see something, because there is built in storage. When I plug mine in it shows 2 because I have a sd card and the regular internal.

I only get 'MTP-Connected'; no drive letters.

That's how it's supposed to work, the internal storage doesn't mount as a disk like an SD card, you browse it like a device. Just navigate to your devices. This would look familiar to anyone who has a galaxy tab, it's the same way.

No you don't. Read above post.

Dont you have to click the notification and click on Connect USB to Computer, then hit the big button that say CONNECT? this is how im doing it.
at first the Drive letters would pop up but I could not see anything in the folders when I tried to open the drives, but on my phone after I do the USB to PC connect it then gives me access to the files.

If you want to see it as a usb drive, yes you do. If you're just using it as MTP, then no you don't.

When I plug into my ps3, in order to be able to see files I have to go under wireless and network then into usb utilities. There isn't an option that automatically shows up in the pull down menu. Will that change once I insert an sd card?

Drivers
You have 2 options
You can download the drivers referenced here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307478
I had to enable USB Debugging to get it to work correctly with Windows 7.
But after that you can access both the SD card and the internal memory on the phone through Windows Explorer
Or you can use the Kies software and do it wirelessly. Details here:

Have you turned on USB debugging mode?
Reboot phone and pc. Mine does that sometimes. I bought a mt4g new and it did that too me. Returned it and got a new one and it did the same. Reboot my pc and it worked. I felt like a tool.

I have no problems using a 32 bit PC - but with 64 bit Window's professional, it is as if the phone were only connected to power. Companion link synch program overcomes this problem -- apparently it installs its own drivers and after doing a usb synch to outlook, I am able to use windows to transfer files between the galaxy S 2 (t989) and windows. However I have not found any drivers that permit the Samsung to connect to the Windows 7 using usb cable w/o using companion link first.
I had the same problem and samsung tech support had me pull the battery for 30 seconds. That did the trick, but it has happened once since.

Broken Screen

Hi I just got my replacement GS2 after breaking the screen on my last one. I was wondering if there was a way to pull the pictures from the old one and move it to the new phone with using the screen? It turns on but I can't use the screen at all.

Yes, you can use the USB cable and connect to your PC, and pull them off of your phone on to your computer
Then unplug the old one, plug in your new one, and transfer to your SD card.
If you have questions I can help

Use kies that might work without needing mass storage. Worth a shot

It should be fairly easy for you then.. you just have to "push" the files within the /sdcard folder to your PC
If you need guidance you can Google, or wait until I get home and I will research for you and post a tutorial.

I know this might not help much, but I would do a search if you could on your computer because I think I remember someone mentioning that you can mount it using a ADB command.
If I find it I'll let you know.

Thank you so much guys. I was able to use Droid Explorer to pull the files. Thank goodness I was rooted and had usb debugging on. Really handy program.

Computer not showing phone on AOKP?

My computer always detected my phone fine until I installed AOKP. I have USB debugging enabled, and I dont get the usual option to mount as mass storage or whatever it was. Is there an option that I seem to be overlooking?
Should be a USB mass storage app in the app drawer thats what aokp came with when i flashed it and without it it doesn't connect to PC I deleted it and then had to restore it when i was testing removable apps

Thanks for the file, after that was installed magically the stock looking one started working. It won't let me go in to my sd card, but atleast I can get into my phone.
Yea getting in external SD is a bit of a pain I just pop it in a card reader to use it I put most of the stuff I need for the rom I'm on on internal SD tho cuz it's alot faster than the external

Yea that's what I planned on. I didn't need to follow the instructions you sent, the file was labeled "install" automatically on my phone so it did everything for me haha.

[Q] file transfer

What method does everyone use to transfer files to and from their PC?
dropbox
Airdroid
I have a question that fits here;
Is there any way to make the s3'S onboard and external SD Read and appear in windows as a flash drive (ftp i think?) Instead of a "media device"?
USB transfer. My computer shows both main and external card.
But now that I have dropbox, it has been my primary means for transfer.
Lol I used to carry a thumb drive everywhere.

[Q] Funky Storage Issue

I've got a Sprint Galaxy SIII, SPH-L710 16GB, no SD Card. When I connect the device to my computer (WinXP, latest Samsung Drivers Installed) I'm able to see files I have downloaded to the storage via the device itself, as well as an .apk that I moved over from my computer, but I'm not able to see the various folders (DCIM, Foursquare, Music, Goomanager, Etc...) Is there something I'm missing here? Phone is running CM10.1 JellyBro.
**In the attached screenshot you can see the various files and folders, when I try to access the storage on my desktop, all I can see are the GAPPS.zip file, and the WhatsApp.apk
I know when I connect mine (vistax64) it pulls it up as a media device should be able to see it under my computer. If not I would look under your media player settings. Or you may wanna check to see if USB debugging is checked on your phone

Thanks. I actually tried that. USB debugging changed nothing. When I threw an SD Card in though, it suddenly was able to see SOME of my folders... I'm gonna do a clean wipe and start fresh, using the CM10.1 Official Nightly. I really need to get this remedied. I'll circle back once I have some results.
Should be studying for my MA Life Insurance license, and not buggering with my phone... oh well.
