My GNex touch screen is working really slow. Is this due to the new AOKP ROM that I installed? This started happening only after I installed this new ROM. Please help
It's a software issue all around. I have it too on CM10 and had it on stock.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
But it only started happening recently, how can it be a software issue? Will it get fixed if I flash to stock or the previous ROM I was using?
It's apparently a widespread issue, maybe you didn't realize it until recently? I didn't either until a few days ago when I read the thread about it.
I think it is an overexaggerated issue..
Mine is no worse than any of my other android phones were, I have no problems with it whatsoever

to u maybe, to the people facing it it's annoying.
This help a little, not sure if it is a placebo or not. In the developer options set the following to "animation off", window animation scale, animator duration scale and transition animation scale. This turns off some of the fancy menu/window open and closing effects that make the cpu work a little less.

I've had all of that stuff off since day one and I still get this problem all of the time. Anyone try that franco app trick yet?

This is stock ROM.
Every time I flash bacon bits to overclock my phone I always noticed that my screen flickers when I turn off the phone's screen or press the button to wake up.
Sometimes it just gets stuck and it stats flickering like crazy and I can't unlock my phone because of it.
This only happens when I OC my phone. When I wipe the phone it works fine but no OC which is what I want.
Any way to fix this issue?
I don't use Bacon Bits, but I have experienced the flickering you speak of. It seems that happen when you go too far with the OC process. What happens if you were to lower your clockspeed a bit? Does it continue to happen for you?

Actually I OC my phone, but it's still set on 806MHz so even at lower clockspeed it still flickers. It's bugging the hell out of me.
EDIT:
Switched over to pershoot's kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847672 I can now overclock to 1.5 gHz with no problems anywhere. Aweseome.
I have this same problem and am bumping this thread.
I'm running stock rom with bacon bits v 0.3 - and my screen flickers when turning off so much that it won't turn off fully and opens the lock screen. I have to just try and try repeatedly to get it to work.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, I have flashed all the kernels even pershoot's and it still flickers. I'm using the original ROM that came with the phone not the original one posted on the forums. Maybe if I use the one posted on the forums that will work?
I have the stock rom as well - I first flashed baconbits kernel, but when that flickered, I flashed pershoots most recent kernel in recovery. No flickering anymore - sorry to say I don't know what's wrong. Try posting in the thread of the kernel you are currently running!

what app are you guys using to manage your OC?
if it's setCPU, set your scaling to Interactive on the main screen and in any profiles you're using.
also, if you are using any screen on/off animations, disable them (just to see, for troubleshooting purposes, if that might be the culprit)

Yeah, it's set on Interactive and so are the profiles. As for the screen on and off animation I believe that's in the CM7 RC1 ROM. I'm using the stock ROM so there's no option for that.

hehe, didn't even read what rom you were using. my bad.
kernels aside, it is very possible, as you mentioned earlier, that you guys got the chips in the stash that don't take to overclocking very well. even on a device like the G2/DZ that seems to take to higher clock speeds relatively easily, there are bound to be some that aren't as happy with the increased workload.
if I think of any other bright ideas, I'll let you know. I haven't played with baconbits a lot.

Does any one else's a100 become super laggy after a few minutes of being on.. I am running the latest flex reaper I even overclock it all the way but I get this huge lag after the first few minutes of being on.. anyone else experience this or have a fix for this?

I do not experience this issue. When you flashed the rom, did you do a clean install? Have you formatting the device?
Yup.. I format everything.. I use the touch recovery and just use every option that it provides and wipe everything.. It even does it when there is nothing installed. I usually delete almost all the useless system apps that I don't use like the google music app and all of the ones civato provides... I even change the animation settings to .5 in the developer section.. should I turn them off all together?

The animations should not have anything to do with it. Does this only occur on that rom? Have you tried other roms and experienced that issue?
not many other roms out there.. I have used stock and his.. had the same issue on both.. Also happens on my brother's a500.. it usually happens when unlocking and going into any app.. it sits there for a few seconds and then opens whatever it is i opened

This is starting to sound like a hardware issue. Before that is concluded, you could:
- Make sure the governor is not set to "conservative"
- Try a clean install of CM9
If the problem still arises, its most likely a hardware issue.
I'm using the OC kernel and have it to 1500.. I also always leave it on performance.. I figure it would kill my battery life but I don't use it much.. and i tried cm9 also.. too many issues as of right now

It doesn't seem it can be anything else but a hardware issue in that case.
NB. Overclocking to a high frequency can cause instability and bring about that issue (but since you experienced it on the stock rom, its quite likely not to be that).
the overclocking helps to speed it up a tad bit.. for the most part it just lags.. i did a clean install just now
Thought I would jump in. Stock ics would slow down and lag on me, jittery transitions poor performance in games or movies, but it took an hour not a few minutes. However testing the T20 kernel before the release kernel had that exact issue, bogging and lagging within minutes.
His release kernel doesnt do it, and flex extreme as well as my cm9 builds don't, even with T20 kernel. Consider flashing that kernel to see what happens.
Side note...what issues did you have with cm9? And what release? My build 1 has been running for 3 days no reboots stable as can be undervolted and OC when needed. Something to maybe think to try to see if it persists. T20 kernel works fine with it too.

That reminds me...setting a screen off profile with the same min/Max speed can cause issues with that, give Max a notch or two higher. And don't have it change the governor leave it the same. So like interactive screen on Myst nit be conservative screen off, doesn't work that way.

I had the same issue on stock. I noticed there are 2 weather applications installed (version 1 and version 2) immediately after I disabled the old weather application (version 1) this stopped happening. I used the ICS GUI to do the disable.
This might not be the case in custom rom, but is true for stock. Post reply and let me know if this fixed it for you also.

I felt the need to add my two cents in this....this has been happening to me for the longest with the flex reaper rom ONLY. I've used stock and ZN's rom and those did not lag after unlock...only flex reaper. I'm currently using flex reaper and still experience it from time to time but doesn't destroy my day at all...
Give the CM9 nightly ROM's a go. No Bluetooth n no HDMI audio, but everything else is fine n damn smooth. Those issues will be fixed though

I installed Flex 100 Reaper with stock and it it seemed to run smooth enough. Then I installed the OC kernal, and started to get lag. I was looking around to find the OC settings, but can't see it anywhere in settings..
Can anyone direct me to where can I adjust the governor/max/min CPU settings?
Sorry for the noob question.

Setcpu from the play store.
The overclock settings are not integrated like CM.
I've recently installed setcpu and kinda fiddled around with it too much. Is there a way to go back to default setting? Do I just uninstall and reboot?
I downloaded it at first to see if it can help with some performances in games but not really sure if it can help.
Any recommended settings for playing games? And then settings for normal/easy use of the device?
I'm currently on Telus, rooted device no CWM or other ROM or Kernels (Read setcpu actually doesn't take affect until custom kernel?)
Thanks again!
I use setcpu to under clock my phone to save battery, I also have a profile set up so it uses minimal cpu while the screen is off again to save on battery. Other than that games play amazing on here haven't had any issues. I what issues are you having?

GTA 3 seems to be sluggish and lagging a decent amount. NOVA 3 seems to lag a bit as well, especially online it lags a crap ton (I doubt it's my wireless issue as other games seems to play fine over wifi).
Would you mind sharing one of your profiles for when the screen is off/sleep mode? I read a few threads and thought that is a great idea as some people have a profile from 12am-7am where the cpu is barely running and is near deep sleep mode of some kind.
Sorry to be bothersome but what were the default values for the cpu? I'm not sure what the ondemand and cfq mean. And do I need a custom kernel for setcpu to take affect? On the playstore someone commented that you need a custom kernel
Default is on demand cfq. The profile I have setup is for whenever I turn the screen off min 594, max 702. I've tried setting it lower but I find it makes it sluggish when I wake the phone up. As far as your games lagging I wouldn't be able to help you. Just make sure that power saver is turned off cause that defaults your cpu down to 1ghz max.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
For the main, would it be okay to have max at 1512mhz and min at 384mhz? And would it be safe to have it max 1512mhz and min 1512mhz for games?
Yeah having your cpu running at maximum is fine, and during games having it cranked all the way up is fine too. Only thing to take into consideration is your battery.

Hey try a different scaling that that.
I read in a different thread that msm-dcvs was Samsungs stock scaling mode and that it was pretty good.
I tried it out and my phone lagged horribly on home screen videos and keyboard.
I since changed it and everything is running super smooth again
Just thought I'd let you know that's it's not all that's it's cracked up to be..

Thats strange, on my setcpu only goes from 384mhz to 1512mhz. How'd you manage to get 1728 O_O
Also I'm not too sure if this is because I downloaded setcpu but for example say I'm on the third page from right/left of the home screen. When I press the homescreen, it doesn't fluently transition to the center screen or is this just me overthinking. I even tried uninstalling setcpu to see if that was the problem but doesn't seem like it helped. Not sure if the transition before was like this but kinda feels weird.
EDIT: If you look at the white dots below the icons, the left/right third screen from the home screen, when the home button is pressed the dot jumps to the middle, I'm sure there was a smooth transition where the dot moved through as the screen flips, but now the page just jumps

I have a couple of questions regarding some options under "Developer Options" in the settings menu. The first questions I have is regarding GPU Rendering. Should we enable it and has anyone noticed any positive/negative effects after enabling it? The next question I have is about the option to limit background processes. I have been limiting the processes to 4 but it seems like every time I go back into this sub menu. it is always back to it's stock setting of "Standard Limit'. Does anyone know how to make it stay on 4?
Force gpu rendering in theory makes ui more responsive and fluid, but if apps are not specifically coded for that, they can look weird with black bars and abnormal colors. I noticed this in few apps and turned it off. I am not sure why ur background process number is not sticking, but honestly u will be more happy if u leave it at default coz with 2 gb ram there is enough memory to run all ur background services and some more.

Dude my background processes keep reverting back to i noticed when i went back in i know it stuck for me on complete stock but i am on free gs3 rom right now and think it might be something conflicting with the modified build.prop tweaks he may have in there. ??? Anyways that switched to limiting 4 background processes and putting window animation and transition animation to 0.5 i noticed a difference . Although i dont really think our phones need this because of the 2gb of ram now maybe the g2x did and as far as gpu rendering u will only notice a difference in some apps that are optimized for this. If not u will notice some artifacts on the screen thats usually your first hint to switch it off because it isnt playing nicely with that particular App. But yes especially in some games u should notice a slight difference. Again if it was the g2x having no hardware accelaration then having it u saw a big difference....our gs3's our such beasts that its minimal to our eyes

As apparently many of you have witnessed before, there are situations where the Galaxy Nexus becomes unresponsive to touch input.
For me, this most of the time is noticeable when trying to unlock the phone. The phone just doesn't respond to me trying to unlock the Screen Lock (Setting: Slide).
The only way to get out of the situation is pulling the battery and reboot. One thing I notice after this routine, is that the phone has lost a lot of battery juice.
I've read a lot about this problem on multiple forums (XDA of course, but also Google support etc) and none of them have been able to pinpoint the exact cause.
There are, however, a couple of applications and settings that are more likely to cause the problem, but feel free to mention your own "suspicious" apps.
* [App] Light Flow
* [App] PGM Nexus
* [Setting] Auto Brightness
Please let me know if you've ever encountered above problem, on what version of Android you are, and if you're using on or more of the above apps/settings.
Had it on CM10 stable, disabling pgm did the trick. (I use auto-brightness but no lightflow)
I had this on rascarlo 4.2.1 /w Trinity & Franco kernels.
All I had from your list was;
* [Setting] Auto Brightness
I was also reading the developer options animation set to below .5x could increase the SOD.
