I dont think so since we have not been able to root the device without using htc dev and soff has not been achieved.
You can buy unlock codes pretty cheap, though.

I have searched the forum and read some threads before posting and found the only way of unlocking is to buy an unlock code which is not available for Austria A1 operator. If there is a thread on unlocking Desire without buying unlock code please post the link.

The same way you unlocked it to start with, in fastboot type "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" without the commas

Anyone knows *how* they do it? Flashing *what* - *how*? JTAG?
I've searched a few times, but I can only seem to find references to "HTC Repair shop official way", threads like THIS one and answers like yours ("forget it", "gtfo", or similar)... No real information on how THEY do it.

You only have 1 option for root/S-OFF on the VZW M9.
Sending device out to someone with a Java Card or an XTC Clip2.
This thread here shows all the people and where they are located.
It's free but a donation is appreciated as the Java Card and XTC Clip2 aren't cheap.

Buy an xtc2clip your self. They are fairly cheap, and then you could provide the service to others in your area, and make the money back.

With a Verizon variant M9 the only way is Java card or XTC2clip.
You can install a developer edition ROM.
sorry for off topic. There are no custom ROM for htc desire 826, which is a similar device to 816. Can someone create custom ROM for 826.

tell you what, arrange for me to have one with active cell service, and there's a fair chance of getting that together.
if i remember correctly the 826 is 64 bit but otherwise similar to the 816. i wanted one but wasn't willing to shell out the extra $100 for the step up.
