I had 2.3.3 oficial update. I used revolutionary to s-off (with the oficial update i had 1.02.0001 hboot and after s-off i had 6.93.0002 hboot). After s-off i ran the shipped RUU and i am still s-off and 6.93.0002 hboot.
Is there a way to get back to 0.93.0001?
1) alpharev.nl is a website read each line of it
2) u have to read xda every day to understand all, then u can do things like root, s-off, custom roms...otherwise is better u enjoy ur stock phone as is

'' First rename the Bravo downgrader.zip to PB99IMG run it in HBOOT MODE, not recovry mode, aply the update, than you hboot will chance to '' ... 9999 '' , after that i had a RUU ZIPFILE, rename that also to PB99IMG run in HBOOT mode and you're done, yoo i learn this as wel!,
''
So did this bring your phone back to S-ON after you ran the RUU?
Aha it did work thanks

But how do I flash the downgrader??. If I double click on the downgrader it asks me what I want to use to burn the file?.
I am trying to get my wifes desire to have a custom rom as it keeps saying she is low on memory. I have used revolutionary to change from hboot 1.02 to 6.93 with s off but now do not have a clue what to do. I have been trying to read up on what to do all day but everything speaks as though I should know exactly what to do from the off!.
Give me my HD2 any day!!! lol
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Scotty.

Download the img, rename it to PB99IMG.img and place it on the root of your sdcard. Then boot into hboot (while the phone is off, press volume down + power button), click vol up button to apply update and again to reboot. Now its flashed. Then you can continue with the RUU.

Why do you want to do that?
There is a downgrader.img on the alpharev website which if you fastboot flash it to replace the existing hboot, will then allow you to use a RUU. Choose a RUU that has the hboot you want and run it. Of course this will unroot your phone. What is your actual aim here?
Downgrade from HBOOT 6.93.0002 to 0.93.0001
Guys, if you ORIGINALLY had 0.93.00001 and ran the Revolutionary S-OFF program, it WILL update your HBOOT to 6.93.0002. This is a GOOD thing, you'll still be S-OFF'd but you'll be running the Gingerbread HBOOT version. It's always better to have the newer version of the HBOOT than the older version. As long as you're S-OFF'd, it really doesn't matter which HBOOT version you have, I just recommend the newer version. Thanks!

For your information, GB Hboot is 1.02.0001 not 6.93.0002. 6.93.0002 is revolutionary hboot and if htc sees that highly likely they will not place it under warranty.

Hi everyone I needed to dowgrade because I wanted to use Alex-V's new 1.7.5 HD rom wich requires custom hboot but apparently the revolutionary one is newer hence the need of dowgrade but it was all a bit confusing for me aswell (no ofence and big thanks to all of you that are trying very hard to make it as simple as possible for us) so at the end just before I give up I put the downgrade img from AlphaRev's site in android flasher and it was all done in 1.6sec
I hope that helps

Try revolutionary ! It will S-Off your phone and install the revolutionary recovery. From then on you can flash other hboots or recovery's
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
revolutionary is not working with hboot 1.03 (1.02 and lower)
I think the only way is downgrade(if possible, don't know the way) and get root/s-off on lower hboot

There is your problem. HTC official method doesn't give you the same freedom unofficial methods do. As far as I know there is no turn back yet, so bad luck for you, inform yourself better next time. htcdev gives you root but leaves hboot locked.
from HTC site:
htc said:
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

You can't change your bootloader because you are S-ON and you can't get S-OFF because methods to get S-OFF are based on original bootloaders, by installing HTC's new bootloader you have locked you out of getting S-OFF. HTC does only give you access to boot, recovery and system, is not full S-OFF and that includes a locked bootloader.
yeah you basically screwed yourself by using the official method. Ironic isnt it?
via xda app
Not sure why all the peripheral discussion around here makes it sound as if he's bricked his phone.
OP, I understand you've "successfully" unlocked the bootloader and want to flash cwmr. In that case, the solution is to download a .img image of cwmr, and flash it using the fastboot program:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or use any of the GUI tools for fastboot.
For all practical purposes, unlocked bootloader ought to be enough for you.
ok problem sovled
This method i have folow with some changes.
1) Unlock phone via HTC official process (registration required)
You are now unlocked S-ON but have no root access on the existing rom, however by doing it the official way you dont need to flash the radio anyway. I used the following steps to get CM7 installed on mine.
2) Downloaded ClockworkMod Recovery 5 (GSM not CDMA)
download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img
(i have download instead dl.dropbox.com/u/4518713/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-bravo.zip this from this topic)
(sorry - forum wont let me post urls yet)
3) reboot phone into fastboot
and plug in the usb
4) In the environment you set up for the HTC unlock process enter
(this means put the *.img file you downloaded in this file: C:/Android (with adb, fastboot)
open cmd, type:
"cd c:\Android"
"fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img" OR "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-bravo.img"
5)unplug the usb cable from your phone.
select bootloader press power to select
wait 20 sec
select recovery press power to select
if the flash was successful you will se the ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 OR 5.0.2.7
6) To navigate into ClockWorkMod Recovery
Use trackpad, not power to select
Yes, that's the age old method of flashing via hboot. Nothing new about it.
Android flasher can also be used to flash recovery right? And isn't it much easier?

Goooood Morning everybody
I have the following Problem: My Desire doesn't boot, so I want to flash a new Firmware (or an older, but an original ). When I use the RUU.exe it works until it says Reboot into Bootloader, because then it turns off, vibrates seven times and thats all. So I get an Error 171 after "Waiting for Bootloader". So i tried to flash it with an PB99IMG.zip but it just works until it says "Checking PB99IMG.zip". After that it goes back into the normal HBOOT menu.
I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP!!!

RUU depends on what model and where you bought it which I can't tell you because you bought it. 2.3 RUU is compatible with all versions so it should work.
And about htc sync it installs drivers depending on state of your phone (powered on, bootloader, fastboot) it has all of them and it will install them when you connect the phone in these states. The ones you don't have are bootloader drivers and they are critical for RUU to complete. Just install htc sync and run 2.3 upgrade, when the phone reboots PC will install proper drivers for bootloader. You have an instalation guide inside 2.3 upgrade pack.

I extracted the first RUU I listed (Gingerbread) and have installed the Fastboot Drivers and HTCSync.
: ...and android sdk of course...
You don't need both drivers maybe they're making problems.

yes that's what i did, i extracted the rom.zip from the first gingebread RUU i posted.
The driver aren't in conflict because i tried with both single drivers and with both at the same time.
Then just try again and again with RUU.
But since you have an old hboot (that should be overrun by RUU) try with goldcard and WWE RUU, you may have luck. I don't know what else to say to you .

Now I talked to one mate that had some problems like your, he put his phone in freezer for some time and after that RUU done it's job.
Hi, I recently (yesterday) bought an HTC Desire. My last phone was stolen, so I needed a nice android phone ASAP. The phone I bought was used, and it was dirt cheap, however, as advertised, the volume rocker doesn't work at all, but it does feel well placed, and the part itself (the exterior) isn't broken, and clicks nicely. I was wondering either:
1) Is this an easy replacement?. I can open the phone and do the fix, but if it's not too obvious, I can't tell which part of the electronic board needs to be changed.
2) Is there any way to flash a custom rom without having to boot into recovery (vol-down+power).
And as of a last option, I guess I could flash the 2.3 RUU from HTC. but I've read there are several drawbacks (SMS mainly. All the bloatware not included I think it's a benefit, not a harm). would anyone recommend me upgrading to that one?
Bonus: If I do flash the 2.3 from HTC, I read it has a modified version of Sense 1.0. But, does anyone know if it comes with the 2.1 sense notification bar?. (the one with quick settings, which is a feature I can't spend a day without using).
Thanks in advance.
-Jesús.

Also flash the root package to get root.

Thanks for the help!, I'm already running a custom ROM . I did get a bootloop trying, and I was almost crying on the inside, haha, I could adb a command just between a boot and the other.. and got around it. But I didn't know about the back+power for fastboot, and I even searched for that particular thing. Good to know!.
thanks!
How?
I had that issue some time ago as well.
Sadly, it did not work for me to get out of the bootloop with adb commands, so I would be interested in how exactly you did it.
I had to send my phone back on warranty (now I do not have any anymore^^)

now I'm froyo(2.2) user. I'm very very want rooting... So, I'm wondering if there is anyway to root my desire without usb cable.
any help would be appreciated.

You can only temp root I believe
Have a look at bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to top of Q&A, step [11]
It might work, never tried it. You won't have full unlcocked bootloader (S-OFF) though, which is much more useful overall.
Best to get you USB port fixed.
I tried soldering a New micro USB which failed so you can instead buy the main board which has the micro USB with it, but if ur not into fixing it yourself just give to a phone shop.

Thank you.
I see "step [11]", so I tried it.
After TEMPROOT NOW, I download superuser. But... Binary update is failed.
In addition, I Download ROM Manger, and select "flash recovery". then installed. But... When I reboot into recovery mode, no flashing Clockwork recovery. Unchanged from HTC Recovery...
I think it's s-on...
What's the problem? I want to hear your ideas.

Maybe it is possible to flash your phone by making a goldcard and by flashing a recovery using a PB99IMG.zip from your bootloader. You could also upgrade your firmware with this way.
But I have a question. How do you charge that phone?!!Do you have some external Charging Dock Cradle?

U dont need s-off for recovery PB99IMG but yes u need unlocked bootloader for it. If u were to flash lets say radio.img PB99IMG method then u do need s-off.

I use the phone charger. I charge the battery by plugging the charger directly.. and I have an extra battery.
So.... You say that you can root using the golden card?

It is possible you be able to flash a custom recovery using a goldcard (I am not sure about that). But as the jmcclue says you probably have to be at least htc_dev unlocked to be able to flash a PB99IMG.zip from your bootloader.
With a goldcard you would be able to flash something without signature verification even with S-ON.You could also downgrade if you would like too.
If you can't find anything an idea is if you could S-OFF your phone. Then you could flash anything. You could temproot and you try an S-OFF way (with gfree for example). You may have to use a custom kernel to be able to use it (I am not sure about that). But as I can see you have a froyo firmware. So may gfree works for you even without custom kernel.

I found something that may be really helpful for you.
Check this out (go to "ROOT WITHOUT USB CONNECTION")
I don't know if it can flash a recovery when you are S-ON.(If you achieve this you should be able only to flash a recovery and after that to root your device with a flashable zip.It will not S-OFF your device)
You can also check this guide out how to S-OFF without adb:
[GUIDE] Permanent Root with Visionary/gfree (No ADB Required)
** If you want to flash an ENG (engineering) bootloader you can download one from here.Do not use the hboot-eng.img or hboot-eng.img you can find inside those tools. Those tools has eng hboots for Desire Z **
Thank you.

thank you. Once, i already tried "ROOT without USB connection". but.. I failed. because... I think it is due to S-ON.(Now S-ON state.)
But... I'll try the second method. Thanks for the tip.

Oh.. It is a way for the G2 and Desire Z.
Umm.. So what should I do in order to fit the Desire(Bravo)?
Hboot-emg.img and Hboot-emg-z.img found in the zip file.(I think the hboot file for G2 and Desire Z.)
So... you mean to replace it with Bravo HBOOT Desire?(ex. bravo_alphaspl.img(Bravo stock),...atc.)
I do not know what to do;;

I don't really suggest you to use flash_hboot or flash_hboot_z scripts because I am not sure what is the hboot partition for HTC desire (bravo). Those scripts are using mmcblk0p18 partition to install the eng hboot by using dd command.(Anyway it is not necessary to install an eng hboot.)
The only thing you need after the S-OFF procedure (with gfree) is to flash a PB99IMG.zip with a custom recovery from your bootloader in order you be able to flash a Superuser or SuperSU zip to root your Rom.
Also you shouldn't even try to install the Hboot-eng.img or Hboot-eng_z.img you will find inside this zip becauce they are definitly for desire z.
If you want to install an eng hboot for bravo you could download one (from alpharev for example) and until you have succeeded S-OFF with the above procedure you can flash it by using a PB99IMG.zip from your bootloader.(You can see the process in alpharev's website.)
If you like to use an eng hboot I think bravo_alphaspl.img (Bravo stock) would be a nice choice. But in my opinion I would prefer the (Bravo N1Table) because you will have more cache memory and a bigger data partition. If you use a lite Rom it should work nice.
Well.;;

When u s off u can flash a recovery using the PB99IMG.ZIP method so then you will have a recovery to flash supersu which makes your phone rooted and then u need a custom rom.
