ROM Idea/Proposal/Thing

Alright so im no developer, so this is why im offering this idea up.
Personally, im starting to hate Android...Im having some serious webOS envy. I know I know, just switch, or blah blah blah. I love the whole gesture based UI. So I was wondering..on the Inc the capacitive touch layer of the screen extends down to right around the bottom of the home-menu-back-search keys. (You can see by downloading some multi-touch tester and dragging your finger down there, it will read that your Y-Position is something like 820 or something.) So right above the trackpad in the middle of the soft keys is a blank spot. Would it be possible for you to change that so there is some sort of invisible soft button, that when you swipe up or tap it launches a user specific app? I would probably put some sort of app-switcher there, or well I dont actually know. But if this is possible, it would be really freaking awesome imho. Thoughts?

have you tried using adw or launcherpro...they have gesture ui, and you can change them also...ie, cm6. sense doesn't that I know of.

Cm6 has lockscreen gestures. Haven't looked into them myself but may be a place to look...

I know those launchers have gestures but what I mean is a new soft key in the middle if the menu and back key

I remember on stock 2.1 this invisible button did something in certain apps, I can't remember what it was though.

i see what youre saying and i think itd be pretty sweet. just to have another soft button to launch messaging or something. i'd love this in a rom

Why not remap the trackpad?
I understand maybe a invisible button could be cool, but its useless. So is the track pad, but the trackpad can be remapped

Well what if u made it to where swypeing left or right or down or up on the optical joystick opened apps of your choice while on the homescreen... or is that what were already talking about?

Well the track pad is not use less. I use it on a normal basis. Maybe for you having an invisible button would be use less but for me it would not. To each their own.

No that's not what I was thinking of, rather the area above the track pad. That's a good half inch Of wasted space.

It's the version thats in the market.

No I mean where is the setting located? I accidentally hit enter, and it sends.
I'm running the latest version, but it won't show any way to disable that feature.

Yep. I'm also not using a stock keyboard either. I'm switching between Thumbkeyboard 4, Swype, and some other keyboard mods. So maybe that might be the reason, maybe not. I know on swype there is no enter key. There is the emoticon list as a replacement lol

Ah. I can't seem to give up the stock HTC keyboard. It's so clean and well put together. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to watch my typing better lol

Yeah, i thought the same thing too, then I tried swype, and i fell in love, and since then it's been back and forth between like 4 keyboards, trying different things lol

Home button

My home button seems not to work at all times. The only time it works is when i reboot my e4gt but after a while home button doesnt work. I have to keep pressing the back button in order to move around. Need help this is driving me crazy.

you could try formatting /system and reinstalling the rom to see if that helps.
or your button may be defective.

most non stock launchers have a setting for stay in ram.
i could be wrong because i'm using the modified touchwiz 4.5
but i believe the stock touchwiz that comes on the phone does this by default.

App drawer

Does anyone else miss pulling the app drawer instead of just a button?

kinda, ya. go launcher allows you to long press on any dock button, and change its gesture. you can then make the gesture ''swipe up" and make the action "open app drawer". much less complicated than it sounds lol

Meh, no point.. I don't like a lot of go teams apps, I just feel they try to be too much of everything...

calks rom actually came with it bundled it. i like what theyve done. its faster than launcher pro, with more customizing than adw. i used to use handcent, but since i have started enjoying go launcher, havent looked back from go sms, its great! everything else, meh. oh and i like the transparent calendar app, to be used in conjunction with go launcher

Is There A Way To Change Which Camera App Opens From The Lock Screen?

title pretty much says it all but to clarify, you slide your finger to the left on the phone and it goes straight to the camera, is there a way to pick a different app for that?

if you've got another camera app installed, when you slide to the left it should ask you what app to use (stock or whatever other ones(s) you have installed.)
Pick the one you want and tick the 'Use as default' box and it will use the selected app from then on everytime you slide left

i clicked clear defaults on the stock camera app and then tried what you said but it didnt give me that pop up

Seems like it's hard coded to the stock camera asp. Would like to know a way to fix that also.

Are you guys using custom roms or anything?
I am stock, but I do have Widgetlocker installed so that I can customise my lock screen, perhaps that is what is letting me select a default Cam app from the lock screen.
Just a thought

alright ill get it but wouldnt there be a way to edit something in the system to do it too?

All the custom ROMs ive used allowed me to choose which app opened by default when I had another camera app installed. No need for a different lockscreen. YMMV

I tried widgetlocker. It felt hacky....me no likey.
