okay.. i looked through the manual when I got the phone and. it says theirs an led to the left of the speakers.. and I'm like no? lol its obviously to the right.. well I called someone on accident tonight and was looking at my phone and a little light lit up to the left of the speaker..anyone know what it's for? lol i is it only calls or what..
seems pretty useless =/ ide rather have a multi colored LED like the evo or evryother phone instead of two red leds lol

I believe those are the camera & light sensors.

Yeah dude those are totally you FFC (front facing camera) and the proximity sensor
Woah wtf CONFIRMED. Seriously just checked and although its very dim, there IS a light on the left corner of the speaker. Its a dark red. I called bull until I tested it. Here's how to see it:
Make a call in the darkest area possible ( the light is very dim) and look directly over the S in SAMSUNG. Interesting!
Edit: ok not an led you're right its the proximity sensor glowing red. If you cover it with your finger, the screen shuts off during a call

the sensors right next to it if look at it in a very well lite environment like outside on a sunny day. the light that glows red is to the right of the sensor

The one that you can see is actually the proximity. The other is the ambient light sensor for the auto brightness. Get over it.

Actually that's not totally correct. The hole directly to the right of the front-facing camera is a photodiode. When a call is in progress it acts as the proximity sensor, and all other times it is the ambient light sensor. To the right of that is an infrared LED - these cast a dim red glow that you can barely see in dim conditions, but if you were to look at it through the lens of a camcorder or digital camera (which are sensitive to infrared light), you will see that it lights up brightly - indicating a large amount of infrared. Skin is very reflective when it comes to infrared. When the infrared light coming out of the LED bounces off your skin and back to the photodiode, the system knows that the phone is against your head and turns the screen off.
Yeah somewhere in the back of my head i knew they likely worked in tandem. Obviously the proximity sensor needs a reciever to pickup the reflected wavelengths. Good info.
there is a weird (faint) red light when I'm in a call, anyone know what this is??
(when I take a picture of it using my sensation camera it looks very bright but in real life it is faint like you wouldnt notice it until you look closer)
its there whether screen is on or off, and and if i put my hand over it it just stays lit
is it infrared or something to detect when my ear is near the screen??
My understanding is that is the sensor that tell the phone if your head is next to it or not.
As above, its the proximity sensor for turning the screen off when your face is near the phone.
There are loads of threads on Crackberry about it as their sensor flashes quite noticeably.

I'm trying to decypher your message here...when you say dark are you talking sleep mode or just a black screen. If you can see anything through the screen while it is in the sleep mode i would be back to exchange it tomorrow. A black picture while the screen is on is a different story all together. This is just how the AMOLED screens work, atleast currently, it is still a farily new technology and has its bugs. In this case it is light 'leaking' through black colors (or non color depending how technical you want to get). Since with AMOLED there is no backlight the individual pixels actually produce light when they are told to show a color. My guess is they either haven't figured out how to get the pixels to turn off when black, or this causes the black pixels to make the images look like crap and there has to be some light coming through to balance the images. There was a pretty neat video on the portal not too long ago about the differences in screen technologies HERE which i found very educational.
As far as the bluetooth issue, im afraid i can't help much...don't use it personally.
So yesterday I got a replacement one from Verizon and as soon as I opened it I checked the camera and the camera was fine so I was glad about that. But unfortunately I accidentally updated and my phone suddenly had the issue. Again today I tried to use the camera and the camera was fine so I plugged it in to charge and put a case on it when I picked it up it felt a bit warm and I checked the camera and the issue began to creep up again. So to test it I unplugged my phone let it cool down infront of a fan and it was perfect again. Anyone else try this or am I over thinking this.

Every HTC One has the purple hue issue. Whether people want to admit it or not. The low light setting was set too low. Find a white wall or counter top , in a dark room, take a picture point blank, one inch away, two inches away, three inches away, they all have a purple hue. It's not until you back it up a ways so that light passes through that you see the purple hue disappear.
The first picture was when the phone was nice and cool. Second I took after watching a couple of YouTube videos while on the charger while the phone got warm on the same spot. I just think it's weird how that works. Is it possible that the sensors are being messed with by heat?

From the looks of the shadows and the lighting, the first picture, the whites on your bed are bright, the aluminum from your phone tells me you either have a light on or sun passing through a window. if you take a picture in a dark area, like the second picture where the whites in the bed are dark and the reflection from the aluminum on the phone indicate that a light is turned off or the sun has settled down, and your going to see the purple hue.
I think it's a software bug Verizon will fix. (they can't replace all our phones with new ones, or we'd get the shaft and get refurbed unit casuing an uproar)
anyway we will find small thing that help fix it but all phones eract differently and this camera software is prime example.

I do not have a purple hue on black or white. I had a little bit of purple tint when I took a picture of fire, but the camera was so good it captured the fire and the surrounding area as well.
Hey guys, come on over and join the purple tint party here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
Also, If you could answer a few questions about your phone (you'll find the info on the last few pages of the thread) that would be great. We are trying to find some kind of pattern to this issue.
I have the purple hue issue as well. I think there may be something to the whole "caused by heat" argument. If I power off my One and leave it sitting for say 10 mins and do a cold boot there's no purple/red/blue hue. Once I use the phone for 10 minutes or so it pops back in. I actually had it remedied for over a week and a half after doing a factory reset and cache wipe. Then all of a sudden it came back. THAT makes it seem like a software issue. So idk. Seems both are viable arguments based on my personal experience. I hope it's software bc it's annoying as all hell.
I wanted to add that changing the ISO to 100 that some people have had success with doesn't do anything for me except change it from solid purple to a light purple haze. A little better but still very noticeable. HTC addressed the issue and said it was going to be fixed with the 4.3 update so I'm curious if the Sprint users actually have seen the issue resolved or not.
UPDATE: I added a thread on the Sprint HTC board asking if the issue has been resolved or not. So we'll see what they say

Funny you say that because I was just heading over to their forum to post the same question
Okay seriously... In the thread link the other user posted about the camera issues 85% of HTC One users on XDA have the issue. 85%!!!! Pathetic.

Oh and the 4.3 update did NOT fix the issue according to 2 Sprint users in the thread I posted on their forum. Said it was a little better but still there. Awesome.

+ 1. No kidding. Maybe once we get source someone here on XDA can pull some magic and help.
I hate when non-Apple products fail in quality assurance! I'm running nightlies of CM and I get the purple tint.
Yeah like apple products are soc perfect lol. Thanks for the laugh.

My wife and I both got the HTC one on the same day. Mine has the purple hue in low light and hers does not. To test this I would open the camera and lay it down on my couch so the camera gets nothing but black. Mine will slowly turn almost completely purple and my wifes will remain completely black. She also does not have the tint in low light conditions. I also think heat may play a role. One of the first things I did when I got my phone was run multiple 3dmark tests to see how hot it gets and also test the performance of the graphics chip. I had taken pictures before this and noticed no hue until after my phone heated up really hot. Since then it has had the issue. I think the OP is on to something as I was thinking the heat damaged the camera myself. I also think HTC probably knows this and just wants us to think its a software thing that can be fixed. Even if you adjust the low light settings the hue can still be seen, just not as bad. I bet the update to fix this will probably be something that disables that portion of the hardware so we all just think its been fixed.
It not heat and was you and your wife's settings the exact same? I can get rid of the haze if I lower the iso setting and if I use HDR or night it goes away.

It doesn't show on computer screen...On my phone screen, look likes lights bleed from the left corner. I can see it when it is totally dark in my room.
Edit:
I took these pictures with my DSLR camera and it show the "green" area. It's the white area on my sceen when i view it in the dark.
Yes, unfortunately it's to be expected from AMOLED technology, at least for now. I've swapped several phones in the past and they all were either worse or slightly better than the first. Extremely few say they have perfect screens, and even then they probably haven't taken steps to make it more visible (if the pixels are completely turned off it will indeed be completely black) or they just don't have an eye for it. My own Note 3 also has this issue. Google "mura effect" for more answers.

I remember my Galaxy S4 was like that in a pitch dark room it also had faint vertical lines down it on a grey background #808080
I guess I will try to ignore it. Thanks for the reply.
