Anyway to keep the screen off when I get a SMS? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

are you using the stock app? i know handcent has an option for that not sure about the stock app.

I personally use GoSMS (has plenty of options, keeping the screen off is one of them) and Light Flow (to control the LED, its an awesome app).

There are about 10 threads addressing the issue and there are no "fixes" for this.

[Q] Enabling repeated alerts for notifications?

I want my phone to vibrate or make a noise every couple of minutes if I have a new notification. I'm not always able to hear / feel it the first time and the only vibration setting I can seem to find is only two quick pulses.
I also noticed that the green status light doesn't flash if I get a text message, where if I have an email to my gmail account it does. Is there any way to change this?
I feel like I have to check my phone all the time without these.
Have a look at Tasker. I use it to watch for certain notifications and then play a sound or do something else to get my attention, without me having to look at the phone all the time. Telling it to wait for x time before the next action is also possible (and a whole lot more).

probably it will works
That's frustrating... Since tasker is about $7 I have to buy an app to provide functionality that my previous basic cheap phone had. I also found that there used to be a nice free app called 'MissedCall' that you could do it with, however it's no longer on the market. GRRR

There's a 'missed call deluxe' for $1
Or there's Missed Reminder which is free.
I think that's exactly what I'm looking for! Sweet thanks!
My recommendation is Light Flow - There is a free version in Market, perfect customization possible: set different LED Colors for Calls, SMS, Mail, Low Battery etc, set different repeating sounds, vibrations...

[Q] App like NoLED that works on SGS2?

Hi All,
Been trying to find something that will work like NoLED for the SGS2. I have issues with NoLED in that in combination with Handcent sms and the popup notification, it gets its self in all sorts of messes (loops etc).
I've seen there is a BLN mod for SGS1 which allows the buttons to act as notification lights (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813389) however there's nothing that I can find that works for SGS2.
Anyone found a solution?
BLN is supposed to be very close to being released for our SGS2.
i'm using NoLed since the first day i bought the phone and there's no issue.
+1 for this thread
Coming from a Desire, Im really missing my LED notifications... So any alternative is highly appreciated.
Can't use NoLED because I'm using WidgetLocker and therefore I disabled the stock lockscreen (which I truly HATE!)

Compability issues appears if you run widgetlocker, handcent etc. Noled also disables the functions of the sliders that appear on stock lockscreen. You know the one you get an SMS and a slider appears that takes you direct to the message. Function is broken with noled

I'm running Go SMS, WidgetLocker and NoLED and haven't come across any issues yet...
Can apps like this cause a burn in? And wont the continuous screen-on weaken the colors over time?

Answer, yes it could cause burn in, I don't think colours will be damaged though.
The biggest issue here will be battery drain. Using an app like this users processor power and screen power at a time the phone would normally be sleeping.

Function is broken? Not for me, works with the messages slider without any problems. Also, since I started using Handcent I have had no problem with noled either, noled works everytime I get a message, email etc. Strange how it works no problem for some but others have nothing but problems. :-(
use application BubbleBuzz from Android market
I got a problem with Noled in that if I use "other icons" for calls (Phone), the phone flashes and show who is ringing but immediately after that, the screen off the display in split second and only shows the green phone icon moving randomly(which signifies a missed call) even though the call is still ringing
Not sure if its explained clearly enough though.
Did I set it wrong?
I can't use anything with noled, not widgetlocker not the sliders from stock lockscreen etc :/ thats weird

I have both Wigetlocker and NoLed and they work fine together. At one time on my SGS i9000m they had a conflict but i spoke with the dev of NoLed and was informed that a fix was coming and i have the latest NoLed on my SGS II and have no issues...

It has a big (amo)LED screen... and two LED's under the capacitive switches...
But that's been said before...
I want BLN for SGSII
Me too no issues at all ..thanks to madmac .
NoLed works perfect with Widgetlocker, just check settings in both programs to make sure nothing is blocking unintentionally
Has anyone seen any update for this? I've tried reinstalling it and still have issues. I need something like NoLED badly

Thanks for that - phone is upstairs on charge (as usual with its battery life hah, and I'm that lazy to go fetch it) - but I'll check when I go to bed later. Feel stupid for not trying this!
Ive found that turning off the screen still dosnt work for me but the app does actually work when i miss a call or text.

Thanks! new to android phones, works perfectly
It certainly works well.
But I find it to not work at times. Once I enabled the "force run in foreground" then I couldn't turn my phone screen on and had to take the battery out. So I think I'm fine with having it worked almost 80% of the time
It's a great app, quick and easy to setup.
But it does stop working sometimes, I've had it once or twice.
Does anyone else have problems with Lightflow? The notifications work well but then after I've checked the email or whatever, I turn the screen back off and the light carries on flashing, even though I don't have any more notifications
It depends on the notification, but if it's a Gmail notification and I open Gmail it goes away.

The app uses a few methods of clearing notifications.
At the moment 2.7.2 has a bug if you choose "screen" as the clear notification style. It's fixed in the dev build, but not in the market yet.
The others are manual (where you have to manually clear a lightflow notification in your notification bar) and finally "app". (some apps such as gmail have extra methods)
"App" monitors for entering the app (or pressing the "clear all" button in older builds of android) and clears when you've entered the app.
I'm guessing that if you swipe away a notification from the notification bar that the led might still keep going as with Gingerbread there wasn't a method to clear single notifications directly from the notification bar. I'm hoping this has changed in ICS. I know the accessibility service has had things added to it, but nothing jumped out at me that would add in the relevant hooks.
Remember when upgrading the app from one version to another (there's been a few updates over the last few days) that I'd recomment powering off and back on the phone.
Looking forward to running lightflow on a GN myself as I've just picked one up today.
This gives me chance to see if there are any cool features I can add into lightflow for ICS and specifically the GN.
Now, just to get my "real" job out of the way for the day so I can start playing with the GN!
does using lightflow affect the battery alot?
Apparently it drains alot
Lightflow gave me Sleep of Death, so I uninstalled it. All ok now.
Trackball alert pro is pretty cool too, one of my favorite apps on the n1, it's now compatible with ics , but currently only works on the modaco rom.

For those with Enterprise email/Exchange if you ever used Touchdown - might be good to go back.
Their light notifications work fine with Galaxy Nexus - set different notification colors for email, calendars and tasks
PS The Touchdown Tablet HD (Honeycomb) version actually works better though you need to pinch zoom out the email list to get the font smaller

Are you sure it's lightflow. If it is I'd be keen to work out what's causing it.
If anyone who had this issue is using lightflow, could they switch on file logging and then at least if it does happen you can mail to log to me and I'll take a look, but I've heard of others getting the sleep of death that have never installed the app.
I've been using light flow since I got my nexus last week, never had any issues. Great app!

Light Flow issue fixed on 4.1.1

Hey guys. Im having a problem with Light Flow. Im sure a lot of you use it? Although i couldnt find many threads on it. I even searched Google for this issue. So hopefully you guys can help.
Anyways im using Light Flow 3.0.2
And it works great but a lot of the time ill get a notificiation (screen will be off) the LED will flash its appropreate color. Ill check the notification (Lets say Gmail) read the email, delete the email, respond to the email w/e and turn the screen off again.
Then the LED will still be flashing for that notification even though i checked it and erased it.
The only way i have found to fix this other then reboot ofcourse is to go into Light Flow > Notifications. I notice when i do this LightFlow gets granted Superuser then i exit turn screen off and all is good.
Any ideas?

Did you make sure you don't have any other app notifications that have the same color?
Are you using any task killers or killing the app with the hold of back button?

for me
when removed the app it disabled the vibration for new sms, gmail ..etc
tried everything without success (disabled settings & re-enable it, rebooting, ...etc), so I didn't bother to install it again after a factory reset (stock ICS by the way)
if anyone had the same problem and knew how to correct it let me know.
delete me please
There is a lightflow widget that clears all lightflow notifications when tapped.
I am just using that while waiting for a fix (which couldn't come soon enough).

So i found out a little more.
So for me before 4.1.1 SMS was my biggest issue that notification would never go away unless i manually cleared it with the app or the widget.
I noticed that is was working on 4.1.1 after i went to accessibility and turned it off and then on again for Lightflow. after i did this i noticed that the notification for SMS was clearing on its own. So i thought it was all good.
UNTIL
I reset/tuned off the phone and received another txt. The notification would not clear on its own. So i was messing around with it and went back to accessibility and turned it off and on again and now the SMS notification clears itself until the next reset of the phone.
Hope it works for you guys. I dont mind toggling a setting until an update comes out.
lightflow issues not fixed on 4.1.1 derp :silly:
Gtalk and Gmail both clear correctly. Gonna see how it is with SMS and Missed Call when I get one of those.
uh. what's up with the title of this thread?
How about on 4.1? Is it playing nice on there? A ToroPlus GNex here...I will buy it if yes
I just downloaded the lite to try it. I feel like its hit or miss. Too much customization and easy to get lost. For example, right now, I have two different notifications going off for like SMS and email. Because within the SMS and email app themselves I've defined a notification sound and then within light flow settings you can define a sound. So I get x2. I think the trick may be to go into the app settings themselves and set them to silent. Then use light flow and set the sounds up. That seems to be the KEY. However, there is a learning curve it seems to this APP. Once you set it up, your good...but dam it takes awhile.
Colors are working good though, but the dismissal of notification via "opening the app" dont work worth crap. You have to set it to "on screen" dismissal
Plus I found myself disabling and re-nabling the app from withing settings --> Accessibility often.

No, I was fine on 4.0.4 but when i went to 4.1 it stopped working, I'm now on 4.1.1 and it's still not working.
It is a fantastic app though, I'm sure the developer will update the app eventually to work with 4.1.1.

[Q] Notification light...blinks ONCE?!

Um...is the notification light supposed to blink only once? Cuz mine does and I find that pretty stupid since I'm not going to be staring at my phone 24/7. Basically defeats the purpose of having a notification light. I see an online review where the power button is supposed to light up (and again mine doesn't) as notification. Is that true? The manual doesn't say specifically... If so, I'll need to get mine fixed. Thanks.
At&t's version the power button lights up. Sprint's version- its the notification light by the top speaker, and it blinks green once every 30 seconds.
Definitely a flaw with this phone. Hopefully eventually we'll be able to fix that with a custom ROM
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Oic ....I didn't test it longer before to see that it blinks every 30s. But yeah that's a huge flaw and I can't believe I haven't read that in reviews. I actually called LG tech to inquire and the rep didn't really know what she was talking about because she 1) said all smartphones work like that (I corrected her on the AT&T version; she obviously did not know her own products) and 2) lamented that she has to turn on her phone also for notifications too (frankly I don't care). Her reponses were a bit amusing lol. I asked if there is a fix coming soon and she said "nope". And in the beginning, I asked if the notification supposed to blink only once and she said yes (no..it's every 30s).
I'm going to be rooting my phone (for the first time!) and hopefully there'll be a custom ROM that'll solve this.
There's a few apps in the play store that are supposed to be able to modify it. I only tinkered with two and had no luck. But you could look there and if one works report back here.

On the bright side, at least you guys (most likely) can get all sorts of fancy colors on your LED once it is sorted out.
From what I hear the AT&T model is stuck with red in B.F.E.
