Help going back to stock ff18 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I used the odin OC to update to the leaked FH13 and am having all sorts of problems that I've seen others are having. what is the best way to go back to FF18 stock or rooted if I have to. Can I use another odin OC or do I need to do something else?

can I get a link since all I've seen is the rooted version?
Also, can this be done with the newer FH13? If so could I use it to back to a previous version like GB?

Several different options with the questions you're asking. Without knowing your end goal, it's a guessing game.
And I guess i should say - back up any data, files etc prior to making changes unless you don't care about losing what's on your phone. Sync your contacts, save your messages, etc, etc, etc.
You can use the rooted ff18 (reset data) and then use the autoroot package to unroot if you want to be on ICS and don't care about trace files or folders being left.
If you want to go back completely stock, no root, and clean up your storage - Use the EK02, Rest Data, One Click. Don't apply the OTA update to EL29 just yet, do a factory reset and option to format USB, restart and let the OTA process take you all the way to FF18.
Yes, either way, with one clicks, it is safe to do from FH13. Do NOT perform a factory reset until you're back on GB.

Hey,
Similar issue to OP but I'll be specific. I had FF18, not rooted, and used ODIN (for the first time I might add) to upgrade to FH13. Now I'm having issues and just want to revert to FF18. How can I accomplish this? I might add, I didn't get FF18 OTA, I went to qbking's instructions to update it manually. Easiest way to get back?
Thanks.

If you are just looking to go back quickly, and don't care if you have root or not, just use the FF18 Reset Data One Click from Sfhub. (Some say using the No Data within ICS to ICS isn't an issue, but I always reset data to avoid any issues that may arise..)
If you want to go back completely stock, no root, I'd recommend the post above yours starting back at EK02. Just the easiest in my mind, although others have different steps. Less user actions needed that way, just longer in the automatic process...

If you go back to EK02, how long does it take to get the ota's? also will you get each update, or just the FF18?
Is this any different than the FF18 OC then unrooting?

Takes me probably an hour for total reset. If I want the phone to be pure stock. I don't try to rush. Bad things happen then. And yes, its an incremental update process. Some people stop and don't chose the ff18 update and use the notification killer. (if you don't have a great connection, then this wouldn't be the ideal way.)
I would say that the one click would be the same regardless of current build. (I don't use cm builds) Its suggested to go into recovery and wipe all by some prior.
I usually pause on el29 and do a factory reset. That's just the way I do it.

flash stock/remove odin count

couldnt find a thread for this question although ive seen it before so sorry for re-post?
my phones been turning off randomly and i dont know why. im running fd05w/root and thats it. i do have a battery saver but i dont think thats the issue.
i wanna take it into sprint but want to make sure iam completely "clean" with my firmware etc..
soo how how/what is latest version of stock for e4gt? and how to get rid of the odin count..mines at like 3 or 4
EL29 is the latest stock. There is the triangle away app that works on ICS. USB Jig on an old bootloader is the normal way.
But random rebooting can happen with the leaks especially roms installed without full wiping. Had one the other day but it was regular on some of the roms i didn't install the way i should have.
If you had a USB jig the easiest way to do it is use sfhubs ODIN one click go back to EK02. Use the USB jig and then OTA update to EL29 which will leave you on a stock unrooted EL29. Factory reset for good measure. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409634
Might be the long way of doing it but it would be very proper.
You can oneclick odin to a stock rooted EL29 and i believe use the autorooter to unroot but id play with EL29 before returning your phone. If there is nothing wrong with your phone you run the risk of getting a refurb thats worse than what you have. They're all refurbs.

I wouldn't deal with it if its bad. Id flash EL29 rooted from one click and make sure my phone was fine for a day or so and then probably flash back to FD05 see how it is. The worst reboot problems I ever had was when i upgraded from Calks 1.3 to 1.3a using ICS CWM like i shouldnt have been. A clean reflash fixed it for me but other people said they had issues. I have only noticed one reboot on FD05 so far i was in the middle of doing something. But other situations it was every hour or once a day.
If you need something to backup contacts, messages and call logs superbackup works great.

The ONLY way you should go back from ICS to GB is through ODIN. So EL29 One Click and then howver you wish to get CWM but sfhubs auto rooter will do it for you. If you prefer to go back to calk's 3.0 you can then flash it from cwm and be back where you were.
But if you flashed from Calk's 3.0 to FD05 without erasing data just so you know thats a potential problem for alot of things. Old settings aren't great. Always format all if flashing an ics rom or use the data erasing odin's if going that way.
back to gb
I have ics blend xplod mini currently flashed,so the only safe way to go back to a el 29 gb is to directly Odin back to it?
Using calk format all then flashing a gb rom is setting myself up to fail?

Off the top of my head i cant remember if its garunteed fail but pretty sure it is.
Youve already been warned by steady to NOT flash any rom with ICS recovery repacks. Despite many of us having success others have ended up with permanent bricks. Im not at home to look for you but best i remember ics to gb is odin safe cwm fail.
Yes the safest way is to Odin one click touch back to EL29. then wipe all cashes. Don't cwm back to el29. It might work. But it might brick.
Search triangle away apk. It reset my flash count and removed yellow triangle at start up.

There is a known issue with several of the FC and FD sites leaks in relation to 4G. Nobody has quite figured out the reason for it but 4G is the cause. Try running without 4G or on an older version of Android to see if the resets are software related our hardware. Maybe save yourself the trip and extra work.
Goods luck either way!

Downgrading to Stock GB After ICS Upgrade

All,
I am very sorry if this has been posted before. I could not find an answer.
I upgraded to ICS FF18 (Odin One-Click) method and do not like it. I would like to downgrade back to Sprint's stock GB ROM to and wait the official ICS OTA.
Can someone provide me with a link to safely downgrade back?
Thank you
Just Odin back. Look for GB EL29 Odin One-Click. Shouldnt be hard to find
Note: This is in the wrong forum by the way. Should be in Questions & Answers

My idea is this: downgrade back to GB, and NOT accept the OTA, i get poor battery life on ICS, and i LOVED the GB battery,
My question is more along: What are you suggestions?
Just read posts for a few weeks, you'll start to grasp all the concepts.
Also:
Understand how to approach your dilemma. If the root of your problem lies in ICS battery life, then I would suggest googling that issue, or installing a custom ROM based off if FF18.
And the OTA will be exactly. the same as what you're starting with!

Your best bet is what others have stated. Use sfhubs EL29 one click odin (no data version if you want to keep your data). Look for it in the development section... he has easy to follow instructions on how to use it.
Alternatively I've included a link to the EL29 Odin OC on the first post of the Official ICS OTA thread.
May be easier than searching...

my fault... your right, its probably better to do the full wipe version if going from ICS -> GB
I always tend to do the full wipe on the one click odin's just so I don't run into problems down the road. I mainly use titanium back up to restore some of my apps anyway.
Titanium is your problem probably... why not reinstall through Google?

What I've done is Odin one click back to EL29 rooted, mobile odin gunslinger kernel 1.4.1, either restore a nandroid backup of calkulin EL29 2.8.1 (my preference) or install it via recovery. Then reboot back into recovery and apply sfhub's ff18 ota disable zip. Sorry for no links but it's all found in development section (if the links are still alive).
I don't blame you for going back. Ff18 felt very sluggish.

I am now on ff18. I am completely dissapointed. The few gems that I am fond of, are lost in this mess of an update.
If this is what I came home with when I purchased this phone, 2 things would have happened.
1) I would have returned the phone for a refund.
2) It would have ended my Android experience. Or any desire to experiment more.
For me, ICS is less usable than Windows Vista rtm.

Why would you end your Android experience? If you are rooted than find a rom that best suits your needs and enjoy.Seriously leave Android for what a apple product where any hope of "doing it yourself"is gone.A windows phone maybe where they are tanking.

I am speaking as a general consumer in my quote. Seriously, why would you spend that kind of money and take home something that poorly excuted and thought out. Generally speaking, consumers are big on first impressions, if it is bad, chances are very high they are not sticking around in hopes it gets better.
Fyi, you can jailbreak an iphone. I am not a big fan of wp 7. And I am going to flash another rom, because I can. However that does not change my statement, the facts, or human nature

Upgrade to Odin's FF18

Pardon my ignorance but I'm still on stock rooted GB from sfhub original cwm flash. I have yet to take the plunge to ics because I don't want to flash to el26 to go to ics and all of this to prevent bricking my phone.* I thought I read once the official kernal is released this bug will not exist and this will not be necessary. I was just waiting for the official release to upgrade. It appears now that has / will be released today.
I have never used odin before but this looks like I don't have to worry about bricking my phone with it correct? I see that sfhub has a one click odin of FF18 with root. If I just want to upgrade I can just use the no data? If I want to start clean I guess I should factory reset then flash full data.?
My phone drives me insane with the phantom SMS bug that I still have.* Sometimes I have to reboot to find that I'm missing txt messages amd then the battery level just plunges. I also have a hard time getting a GPS lock. I'm hoping this update helps.

That is correct you can use the one-click to update and it's known to be safe. just don't unplug the cable until the phone reboots. also have you thought about upgrading your modem? there are flashable zips. I'm running the FF18 modem and its working better than the stock EL29 modem. I wanted to wait for the upgrade, but i went ahead and flashed an ICS rom yesterday.
Now that the source is released does this mean the emmc bug is to be removed and it will be safer to flash more ics / asop roms?

It appears that way. I know reading yesterday that they are working on it. With the source code they can fix/modify the eMMC issue.

You can ODIN FF18 over anything on the phone. The No Data package will be just like the OTA except for root. But if you can stand to back some stuff up you will have a lot less trouble with a full wipe. OTA users themselves experience a minimum of a hassle and a maximum of hair pulling and doing no data will be the same. Easiest problem is needing to clear data for swype to get that to work but random reboots can be another issue if taking the OTA or doing a No Data odin from there to here.

Download and run the SPH-D710.FF18_CL663858_ROOTED_NODATA-oc-sfx.exe
it will give you root back without changing anything else.
Download sfhub's FF18 + root now that it is confirmed to match OTA, put phone in download mode and flash from PC. Voila! OTA and root.

If you start with a stock EL29 phone (non rooted), whats the best approach to take resulting in the smoothest best experience ? Is their a difference ?
1) EL29 -> OTA Update Zip -> Sfhub No Data + Root FF18
2) EL29 -> Sfhub No Data + Root FF18
3) EL29 -> OTA Update Zip -> Sfhub Reset Data + Root FF18
4) EL29 -> Sfhub Reset Data + Root FF18

#1 and #2 would potentially cause issues if there was something lingering in /data. Depends how long you have had the phone, what apps you have installed, etc.
#1 and #3 are redundant as well, so you're down to #2 and #4.
If you want the "cleanest" installation #4 is the way to go. May require to reinstall apps and some data but at least you're on a clean slate.
really all you have to do is one click shub no data is that so hard

LOL, The No Data would be like the OTA, Both will cause some issues requiring data on some apps needing to be cleared. Like Swype. But no it isn't hard.
The FULL FF18 can be applied no matter what firmware you are on and nulls the need to do any wiping. Just backup your contacts, mms, call logs and if you have titanium backup backup the rest of your stuff too. Just apply.
It isn't hard, just trying to understand the complete picture and see what the realistic differences are..
Out of curiosity, how do you guys backup your contacts? I've always had the issue, where Google sync brings back lots of stuff and then a backup contact restore results in duplicates??

You can use AGATs FF18 kernel but I would double check with the rom dev as far as the updater binary being safe. I can only comment on flashing CM9 updates and wiping which are safe on safe kernels.

Rooted with Zedomax + Caulkins Rom. Constantly rebooting.

Reboots usually about 10+ times a day. During calls etc. Any way to remedy this?
Note: it doesn't restart from the very beginning it freezes, goes black then boots up the lock screen all media connects are restarted etc.
From the limited amount of research I've done the zedomax method for rooted is no longer used? (Currently I get the yellow exclamation point at reboot).
What do I need to do (in lame mans terms) to get my phone back to normal?
TIA!
Easiest way is to one click Odin. I'm not sure which your on. I'm assuming GB. So you can one click Odin to stock el29+ root. Or if you want one click Odin to FF18 or FH13 to upgrade to ICS. And if your on ICS you can use triangle away to get rid of yellow triangle on the splash screen.

Using ZedoMax kernel is your problem from the get go. Even Zedomax would have a good laugh at that. Its an OLD OLD kernel.
EG30 and EK02 can be rooted via usb with the zerg exploit and sfhubs auto root made that easy. Easiest way with EL29 or the newer ICS firmwares as well is just to flash a prerooted one click. But you can always odin a kernel with custom recovery and flash super user.

Yeah, Zedomax is quite a flashback. I'm actually slightly impressed OP was even able to find the kernel in the first place...

There's been quite a few new epic users to the forums lately as their evo phones were replaced with this one for a replacement thru sprint. Quite a few old threads on rooting, kernels and themes have been resurrected in the last 30 days or so as a result.

Yes I'm on GB EL29. Would this be the correct method detailed in this video?

Other relevent info is I am using a Mac and can't open .exe files. Is there a work around? . . . and do I need to unroot before doing this one click odin or will this just replace my old root while preserving my info?
Thanks.

Use Heimdall to flash tars then. Grab the one for FH13 if you want the latest official ICS or EL29 if you want the last GB out. Sfhubs one click threads have a second post with the tars as for FH13 dunno how Garwynn and rwilco have their stuff arranged.

I would like ICS. I haven't done any rooting/ flashing in a long time. Is there anyway you'd be able to explain so that an idiot like me could understand please?
(I looked at sfhubs page and got really confused)
You can check out QBking's videos on YouTube he has quite a few tutorials for the e4gt

Thanks, I've seen his videos. I linked to it in my previous post however he doesn't have detailed instructions for Mac users.

You have CWM recovery right?
If so copy Calks rom onto your phone, if you don't still have it there.
Download the EL29 zip file to your phone from http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com...y Kernels/GB/Rogue Recovery/Stock Repacks/ZIP.
Instll that zip from recovery and reboot back into recovery.
Install Calks Rom again.
You should be fixed now.
If you prefer to go with FH13 (ICS):
Download the AGAT_v0.5.4.zip file to your phone from http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com...y Kernels/ICS/Agats Source Built Recovery/ZIP
Copy this file to your phone http://d-h.st/Txi
Install the FH13 Rom from recovery.
Instll the AGAT_v0.5.4.zip while still in recovery.
You should be fixed on FH13 now.
If you want the Modem you can download the FH13 modem zip from here and flash it from recovery. http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/ModemSite/?dir=MODEMS/ICS/ZIP

Thanks for being my hero. Everything works (so far). And after some trial and error even the wireless tether works. Now if I could just get my iPad to link to my wifi I'd be golden...
Thanks again!

No problem. I am partial to the Sprint hotspot hack myself. In the dev section by rejulus22.

Bump.
Different issue:
1. I keep getting a FI27 Software Update reminder. I am able to clear it out of my notifications but 5-10 mins it's back again. It will interrupt whatever it is I am doing at the moment.
2. Is there a separate current radio I can download? My gps can never find my current location, rendering the turn by turn feature useless since I can't use it.
Any thoughts?
TIA

The link given earlier to download the modems contains the FI27 modem. You could flash that and it may get rid of the update reminder.
