flash stock/remove odin count - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

couldnt find a thread for this question although ive seen it before so sorry for re-post?
my phones been turning off randomly and i dont know why. im running fd05w/root and thats it. i do have a battery saver but i dont think thats the issue.
i wanna take it into sprint but want to make sure iam completely "clean" with my firmware etc..
soo how how/what is latest version of stock for e4gt? and how to get rid of the odin count..mines at like 3 or 4

EL29 is the latest stock. There is the triangle away app that works on ICS. USB Jig on an old bootloader is the normal way.
But random rebooting can happen with the leaks especially roms installed without full wiping. Had one the other day but it was regular on some of the roms i didn't install the way i should have.
If you had a USB jig the easiest way to do it is use sfhubs ODIN one click go back to EK02. Use the USB jig and then OTA update to EL29 which will leave you on a stock unrooted EL29. Factory reset for good measure. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409634
Might be the long way of doing it but it would be very proper.
You can oneclick odin to a stock rooted EL29 and i believe use the autorooter to unroot but id play with EL29 before returning your phone. If there is nothing wrong with your phone you run the risk of getting a refurb thats worse than what you have. They're all refurbs.

I wouldn't deal with it if its bad. Id flash EL29 rooted from one click and make sure my phone was fine for a day or so and then probably flash back to FD05 see how it is. The worst reboot problems I ever had was when i upgraded from Calks 1.3 to 1.3a using ICS CWM like i shouldnt have been. A clean reflash fixed it for me but other people said they had issues. I have only noticed one reboot on FD05 so far i was in the middle of doing something. But other situations it was every hour or once a day.
If you need something to backup contacts, messages and call logs superbackup works great.

The ONLY way you should go back from ICS to GB is through ODIN. So EL29 One Click and then howver you wish to get CWM but sfhubs auto rooter will do it for you. If you prefer to go back to calk's 3.0 you can then flash it from cwm and be back where you were.
But if you flashed from Calk's 3.0 to FD05 without erasing data just so you know thats a potential problem for alot of things. Old settings aren't great. Always format all if flashing an ics rom or use the data erasing odin's if going that way.

back to gb
I have ics blend xplod mini currently flashed,so the only safe way to go back to a el 29 gb is to directly Odin back to it?
Using calk format all then flashing a gb rom is setting myself up to fail?

Off the top of my head i cant remember if its garunteed fail but pretty sure it is.
Youve already been warned by steady to NOT flash any rom with ICS recovery repacks. Despite many of us having success others have ended up with permanent bricks. Im not at home to look for you but best i remember ics to gb is odin safe cwm fail.

Yes the safest way is to Odin one click touch back to EL29. then wipe all cashes. Don't cwm back to el29. It might work. But it might brick.

Search triangle away apk. It reset my flash count and removed yellow triangle at start up.

There is a known issue with several of the FC and FD sites leaks in relation to 4G. Nobody has quite figured out the reason for it but 4G is the cause. Try running without 4G or on an older version of Android to see if the resets are software related our hardware. Maybe save yourself the trip and extra work.
Goods luck either way!

Soooooo ICS....safe yet?

Well I've had my replacement phone for a few days now. Been reading and keeping a close eye on all the ICS threads. These are a couple of methods I've seen posted more and more frequently to safely flash ICS.
1)Make a backup
2)Full wipe
3)Flash FB whatever
4)Flash FB whatever modem
Now to get back
5)Go into odin download mode
6)Odin El29 tar
7)Boot CWM
8)CWM restore
This next method I'm not to fond of do to Rom Manager being used.
1 thru 4 same steps.
5)Install Rom Manager
6)Flash CWM for AT&TSGS2
7)CWM restore
So what I'm here to find out is has ANY of you that have used one of these methods had any issues. Primarily getting back from ICS.
Really itching to flash some new ICS awesomeness but trying to play it safe also. Not looking to dish out another 100 dollar deductible.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
ive been using ICS since my replacement... i just refuse to flash CWM.
I use Steady Hawkins versions and havent had a problem. Once he releases a fb21 compatible kernel/recovery ill flash.
Be safe and good luck...
LOL oh no Caspersfi!!! You didn't learn your lesson the first time.

Yeah me too, gonna wait for a repacked kernel and CWM for the FB21... Then im all in!
My first attempt at failed badly! But with some praying and Odin, I recovered and flashed a working fb17 over. But I have yet to get a wifi tether to work. That is the only thing that keeps me from using it as my daily.

I haven't bothered with any of the FB stuff; I hate the stock look, and TW in general..
But, I have been on all the CM9 versions so far, and, I gotta say, that aside from occasional LOS, which is easily cured with a program called fresh network, and a so so gps, it pretty much works flawlessly for me...
And, it REALLY looks nice and different!

Here is a video on how to switch for TW to the native ICS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6yZk_szFU7c)
and if you use the de-odex'd rom you can flash this ICS theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506945)
I've been on ICS for a few days now and just went to FB21 today running TNZ's Blend ICS and it runs great. I was a little hesitant to switch too but just remember to nandroid backup, and fully wipe in cwm and your good. Use odin to flash kernels and get back cwm, then use cwm to flash modems, then update profile and prl when done. If you don't like it then just odin back to gb (don't use cwm) and flash a kernel again, then flash whatever rom in cwm that you want.

personally, I've jumped between ICS and stock el29 rooted several times using the second method... I think you should be fine as long as you don't flash touch recovery.

Agreed, I won't let hitman touch my phone until it's fixed.
Ive been using these mostly everything works even sprint tv.. Only thing im missing is wifi tether but usb works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516176
I've flashed around 30 times between FB15, FB17, FB21 and back to EL29 in various combinations while testing the ODIN One-Click packages in my signature and the CWM repacks in the Auto Root thread.
Didn't have any problems, so I think the early flashing issues are avoided as long as fake flashing CWM Touch using update.zip or ROM manager and then subsequently using it to restore or wipe is avoided.
Thanks sfhub, that's good enough for me.
Time to start downloading and flashing some ICS goodness.

You might want to try to Odin back to a stock EL29 - sfhub is the MAN for this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 you can choose to save data or do a complete wipe; probably best to just wipe the whole thing. Then put on CWM+Rogue's recovery [it is NOT the touch recovery - YOU DON'T WANT THAT!] instructions for that are also in sfhub's post - read throroughly. Then apply Phantom Hackers Blazer ROM afterwards. Been running Blazer for a while now and found it to be the best ROM for me. Good luck.

If you do not have a yellow triangle during the start of booting on your hone then you do not have an Odin count that goes over 0. After for what it does it tells your cell provider if you have flashed a custom anything pretty much.
U have to flash the SBL for the EG30 or EG31 roms. The newer bootloaders stopped the jig from working.

Upgrade to Odin's FF18

Pardon my ignorance but I'm still on stock rooted GB from sfhub original cwm flash. I have yet to take the plunge to ics because I don't want to flash to el26 to go to ics and all of this to prevent bricking my phone.* I thought I read once the official kernal is released this bug will not exist and this will not be necessary. I was just waiting for the official release to upgrade. It appears now that has / will be released today.
I have never used odin before but this looks like I don't have to worry about bricking my phone with it correct? I see that sfhub has a one click odin of FF18 with root. If I just want to upgrade I can just use the no data? If I want to start clean I guess I should factory reset then flash full data.?
My phone drives me insane with the phantom SMS bug that I still have.* Sometimes I have to reboot to find that I'm missing txt messages amd then the battery level just plunges. I also have a hard time getting a GPS lock. I'm hoping this update helps.

That is correct you can use the one-click to update and it's known to be safe. just don't unplug the cable until the phone reboots. also have you thought about upgrading your modem? there are flashable zips. I'm running the FF18 modem and its working better than the stock EL29 modem. I wanted to wait for the upgrade, but i went ahead and flashed an ICS rom yesterday.
Now that the source is released does this mean the emmc bug is to be removed and it will be safer to flash more ics / asop roms?

It appears that way. I know reading yesterday that they are working on it. With the source code they can fix/modify the eMMC issue.

Looks like they fixed it. but it can only be used for TW based roms

You can ODIN FF18 over anything on the phone. The No Data package will be just like the OTA except for root. But if you can stand to back some stuff up you will have a lot less trouble with a full wipe. OTA users themselves experience a minimum of a hassle and a maximum of hair pulling and doing no data will be the same. Easiest problem is needing to clear data for swype to get that to work but random reboots can be another issue if taking the OTA or doing a No Data odin from there to here.

Several different options with the questions you're asking. Without knowing your end goal, it's a guessing game.
And I guess i should say - back up any data, files etc prior to making changes unless you don't care about losing what's on your phone. Sync your contacts, save your messages, etc, etc, etc.
You can use the rooted ff18 (reset data) and then use the autoroot package to unroot if you want to be on ICS and don't care about trace files or folders being left.
If you want to go back completely stock, no root, and clean up your storage - Use the EK02, Rest Data, One Click. Don't apply the OTA update to EL29 just yet, do a factory reset and option to format USB, restart and let the OTA process take you all the way to FF18.
Yes, either way, with one clicks, it is safe to do from FH13. Do NOT perform a factory reset until you're back on GB.

Hey,
Similar issue to OP but I'll be specific. I had FF18, not rooted, and used ODIN (for the first time I might add) to upgrade to FH13. Now I'm having issues and just want to revert to FF18. How can I accomplish this? I might add, I didn't get FF18 OTA, I went to qbking's instructions to update it manually. Easiest way to get back?
Thanks.

If you are just looking to go back quickly, and don't care if you have root or not, just use the FF18 Reset Data One Click from Sfhub. (Some say using the No Data within ICS to ICS isn't an issue, but I always reset data to avoid any issues that may arise..)
If you want to go back completely stock, no root, I'd recommend the post above yours starting back at EK02. Just the easiest in my mind, although others have different steps. Less user actions needed that way, just longer in the automatic process...

Takes me probably an hour for total reset. If I want the phone to be pure stock. I don't try to rush. Bad things happen then. And yes, its an incremental update process. Some people stop and don't chose the ff18 update and use the notification killer. (if you don't have a great connection, then this wouldn't be the ideal way.)
I would say that the one click would be the same regardless of current build. (I don't use cm builds) Its suggested to go into recovery and wipe all by some prior.
I usually pause on el29 and do a factory reset. That's just the way I do it.

How to delete everything/return to factory stock unrooted?

I'm having some issues with my phone rebooting or powering off frequently, especially when I plug it into a charger. I don't think I have the power button issue. I suspect it is the battery (although the battery was replaced Oct 2012 at the sprint store) and have another on the way. I want to exhaust every possible option in testing, so I want to take my phone to off the shelf stock. I currently am running rooted sprint JB, and I am looking for a way to remove all user files on internal storage as well as the tweaks (have comadose installed and had kobridge before) just to make sure it is not from a bad flash. I know how to go back to stock unrooted GB27 with Nodata via ODIN, however I want to make sure ALL tweaks and user files are removed too. Ideas?

The only thing I can say is if you have a CWM recovery installed boot into it and wipe all storage areas with that, then use the ODIN one-click RESTORE version (not NODATA as RESTORE will wipe all user data from the phone). That's about the best I can do for you. I just did it the other day to my phone and it wiped literally everything from the device, including the custom boot-screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191954
A slip of the tongue, I meant restore, not nodata. I can mobileodin el29 directboot. What should I do in CWM to ensure all internal storage, system data, and tweaks is completely wiped? I usually use JB format all x2 but that doesn't delete pictures etc, so I am assuming it's leaving possible conflicts from flashing roms
OK, I flashed el29 directboot to CWM, formatted EVERYTHING I had an option to in CWM, did a restore to stock unrooted but it still knew my wifi password when the phone powered on which makes me think not all the data had been reset...
Try stock recovery do a "factory reset"after that it should ask you for wifi password.

I usually use JB format all x2 but that doesn't delete pictures etc, so I am assuming it's leaving possible conflicts from flashing roms

If you are rooted, use Mobile Odin Lite to flash a stock EL29 KERNEL (.tar). - I would highly suggest this particular way as it's how I do it and I've never had any issues doing it with Mobile Odin Lite. Mobile Odin Lite
If you're going to use CWM to flash the stock EL29 KERNEL, use the .zip version.
You could also always try the One-Click EL29 KERNEL, but I've never used a One-Click before so I can't help you on that process but I'd imagine it's the same as flashing the ROM with a One-Click.

After that just do a factory reset through the stock recovery. You should be all set after that.

I used mobile odin lite to flash EL29 directboot kernel. This allows the use of CWM after flashing the kernel. Once in CWM I formatted everything I could in CWM and formatted cache and dalvik. From there, I used a one click desktop ODIN to flash stock sprint unrooted. IAfter all this, I am still having issues with constant restarts. I replaced the battery and am still having the problem. I am unsure if this is software or I have a power button issue. Does anyone have any tips I can try?

Well, then I'd probably say it's a power button issue, but I've also heard of moisture in the charger port (not necessarily liquid damage, could just be moisture in the air) might cause random bootloops as well. Could be a number of things, but you've stamped out your issue from being software related (as far as I can see). Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
Depending on what stock ROM you want there's a one click you run through odin that's wipes the internal memory as well

Oh man... This is bad. You don't have to do all that confusing stuff!
Here is the link for the stock FL24 build for E4GT D710:
http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=116
Download that file, run it, put phone into recovery, plug phone into computer and press start once "COM" shows up on the one-click...the usual. When I use this, once the phone boots up I always just go into settings-->privacy-->restore phone and check format USB (that is if you want everything deleted off your SD card). I back everything up to my 64GB removable sd card before I do this.
Hope I helped!

Just curious, but any particular reason why flashing to stock ICS may be better than stock JB in this case?
Thanks.

It's not. I don't think he realizes that JB has gone official.

I go back to ICS because, at least in my area, 4.1.2 JB has not gone OTA which, imo, you can't go wrong with it. It's stable and it's just what I do. I'll eventually switch to a stock JB build for a one-click restore, just not yet. I'm not living under a shell I know JB has gone official.

JB is not an area specific thing... You can only officially get it over the wire from Samsung's site or by using kies. They will not do it over the air. So no matter where you are in the world, JB is official for all three variants of the E4GT.
ICS is the worst thing to hit the E4GT and is not stable. You obviously do live under a shell if you think it is. IMO, CM10.1 is more stable.
So, let's try not to make poor excuses with completely wrong information when posting next time.

Hahaha woah there dood...let's not get offensive, no need to be so harsh! If I've learned anything from Miley Cirus it's that
1) never let your weed-eater cut your hair and...
2)Everybody makes mistakes :good: :good:
Jesus man, sorry I haven't devoted my life to learning everything there is to know about cell phones just so I can take people down and attack them on online forums. Although, if that's all you can do to boost your self-esteem, then go for it. make me feel stupid! I am living under a shell. I make poor excuses. I am an idiot. I know nothing about anything. I should probably rethink my life.
Thank you, Mr. "Graydiggy" for this eye-opening experience
Rough night for me. My bad. All I am saying is that you should take more time to read. A little bit of bad advice could render someone's phone unusable. Even though your advice was decent, you could have possibly left someone in the dark when it comes to a much better version to use.
Like you said, mistakes are made, but some mistakes can cost hundreds of dollars. Its better to know what you are talking about and if you aren't sure, search for the answer.

Yeah I gotchu maynee..no worries, I was just kinda posting what I do and I still don't really think running a ics one-click versus a 4.1.2 one-click is a hundred(s) dollar midtake. For some reason though I hadn't even thought about downloading a 4.1.2 one-click. probably a lot easier and hassle free?
Its not that it is a costly mistake, but it can be quite troublesome. I was saying that one should know every detail of something before posting. I have seen many a brick happen do to someone saying to do one thing that was completely wrong. So even if it has no potential of bricking you, take into account that it could just be wrong.
GB27 Is the best in terms of stock ROMs. People that say otherwise either don't know what they are talking about or it's horrible user error and misinformation.
