[Q] Can i still send for repair? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i wanna send my arc to change the housing as it been found and kind of damage... but the software is running on stock unlock bootloader with doom kernel... should i flash back to the stock kernel and lock the bootloader before senting it to?

Would say yes, but it depends on how they unlocked the bootloader as this can void warranty ......
Also how much damage has been done its it really necessary to send for repair.
Is it possible to phone Sony service centre and explain what has happened and seek there advice on next options.

I sent mine back in the UK with a custom kernel and rom also with bootloader unlocked. It came back with the cracks fixed and an official software installed.

[Q] Can anyone spare me moment to get me up to date re: ROM development?

Hi. I've been off the Arc ROM development scene for quite a few months but I'm back now and have been trying to read threads to get some idea of where we are up to now.
When I left, the boot-loader had been successfully unlocked and the phone rooted, Woohoo! Then we discovered that the SEUS threw its toys out of the pram if it met an unlocked handset, Bummer!
I see the situation re: SEUS and unlocked phones hasn't changed but I also see that someone has worked out a way to re-lock the bootloader.
Can we have a re-locked phone that is also rooted now? I would like to be able to use the SEUS updater but I want to keep my apps that require root access.
So if anyone can let me know what the current state of affairs is I'd be very grateful and have less headaches from reading miles and miles of posts!
Phil :-D
The namaste guide should help.

I know that you don't have to have an unlocked bootloader just to have root but what I would like to know is if I could unlock it to run some custom kernels for overclocking and then relock it for S E. updates ?
You can relock it and use SEUS.
But FlashTool will do it too without relocking it.

[Q] Bootloader Re-locked. Warranty?

Hello there,
since 4.0.4 wasn't coming to my phone, I've flashed the stock image from google on my GNexus. I was wondering if, having unlocked and re-locked the bootloader, my warranty is void, or if it is back on.
Thanks in advance
Doesn't rooting already void ur warranty?
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
As long as you put stock from and relock bootloader, no one can tell you've done anything to your phone or voided your warranty.
Just like an iPhone jailbreaking voids your warranty until you restore it back to official firmware.
Galaxy Nexus GSM
You can always return to stock and lock the bootloader. No one will be able to tell you've done anything to the phone at that point.
I send my SGN in for repair after reflashing the stock image and relocking the bootloader. And there were no complaints that my warranty is void. So I asume there is no flash counter like on the SGS2.
Alright! Great to hear
Thanks a lot for all the replies =)
Oh, that's great to hear!
I have a similar question...If you were to be lazy and not relock the bootloader, would the people at a local VZW really know? I mean, in the past, I have seen people take rooted and Rom'd HTC phones to sprint and easily gotten replacements.

They probably wouldn't know... but how the hell lazy are you? Connect the phone to a PC and type "fastboot oem lock" into the command window. There's absolutely no reason not to lock the bootloader before sending it back in.

if they have 1/2 a brain, yes they can tell the bootloader is unlocked... since there's a picture of a unlocked lock.
As I wrote before I send my phone in for repair and relocked it before. Today I got my phone back and when I turned it on it was unlocked. I think they don't care about unlocked bootloaders as long as the issue is not caused by onlocking the bootloader.
They should be able to tell whether ur bootloader is locked. It changes one of the codes. For my w8 it changes Rxxxxxx (locked) to rxxxxxx( unlocked) so as long as they check ur warranty is as good as dead

we can relock the bootloader.. after being relocked, it's locked, like it came from the factory.. "i never did anything to the phone, custom stuff, what are you talking about?"

unlocking and relocking the bootloader is extremely easy guys....
I had an issue with my stock recovery ....so I had to unlock by bootloader ..then flash the stock recovery image ...and then relock my bootloader.... all this took under 10 mins...
and yes once you relock..its relocked...

Why bother even relocking it, if you need to unlock it again you'll have to wipe your internal storage.

Info abou warranty

Hi i will be new to HOX , im curious in witch case i loose warranty.
Rooting void warranty?
Unlocking bootloader?
Sent from my LT26i
rooting will not void warrenty because if you remove it, they cannot tell it has been done.
unlocking bootloader (CAN) void certain parts of your warrenty because they can tell that it has been done
So ulocking BL and instaling kernels, roms without overclock and other cpu stuff should not void warranty if reverted back and relocked?

Yes, it will. You lose your warranty when you unlock the bootloader. When you revert back it will say Relocked instead of locked in Hboot.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
In most cases you will lose warranty for unlocking the boot loader. But a number of people have managed to claim warranty on unlocked phones. It all depends on your local service center.
Thank you guys, looking forward to buy HOX and learn hboot, and all other HTC specific stuff.
Hope to talk with you i near future.

If you unroot and relock your BL, they won't know you unlocked it.
The fact, that you requested the unlock code doesn't prove anything
In order to completely factory relock you device, you should first back up your TA partition before unlocking!
--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
That's right, you just get your unlock code, that doesn't automatically unlock your device. I recently got my phone back from repair, although I unlocked (and relocked) my bl I got a replacement phone, I didn't loose warranty.
Also, if you unlock, sony says you MIGHT loose warranty. I'm quite sure that they'll replace your device in case of hardware defect.
Xperia ZL, 4.3 Stock (.101), rooted
Problem solved thanks

Unlocked Bootloader and Warranty

Hello everyone,
Anyone here who has an unlocked bootloader managed to send the phone to warranty without any problems? I really want to install cm13 but I'm worried if something happens in the future I won't be able to fix my phone.
Thanks in advance
Hello, too.
If you want to unlock, use the unofficial way. As the official one voids warranty. However, if you want to claim your warranty, return everything to stock.
I managed to claim my warranty (unlocked using unofficial way) due to screen glitches before but the Asus service center said that my warranty was void due to contact with liquids.
