broke my nexus need a replacement - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys have had some bad luck with my galaxy nexus, I dropped it on the weekend and it is now destroyed. Luckily my insurance company will cover it. The only problem is they are not selling it in Aust anymore. Can anyone recommend a good replacement at a similar price

Well if you still want a Nexus you can ask them to give you your money back and then look for it yourself - I'd do that if my GNex broke. Some near-priced phones (at least in my country) are the Sony Xperia S, the HTC Sensation XE or XL, some Samsung tablet, I think it was the P1000, the Samsung Galaxy R and the HTC Evo 3D hope i helped

Sorry to say that...
but i think there is no replacement for the Galaxy Nexus
and at this price... mhm... what about the Samsung Galaxy S II for example?
It's not really bad

Yeah unfortunately they won't give me money back only replace it. I loved that phone and flashing ROMS daily. How does the S3 compare

Buy one here: http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-nexus/

Please don't tell him the 3d is an option. He doesn't want that pos

Normally I'd agree with your statement about SE/Sony (owned an X10), but the Xperia S is getting direct AOSP support now, so it might not be so bad after all

Yep, only if you count on that stuff that's why custom ROMs exist I wouldn't say poor build though - like I said, I'm very happy with my Arc S. Newer NXT Xperias might be poorly built but the Arc S even makes the SGS2 look like an ogre

Build and hardware / software design boils down to personal preference.
As for support... They have the VERY BEST updates. Much better than the crap Samsung and LG.
And... Guys you have insurance for your phones? Wow! I just have crappy warranty that I don't bother voiding.

Yes, if you want to be completely disappointed with Mobile gaming.
Whats "a lot of problems", post them and we can help you with solutions. Mine has 0 problems and is stock.
I would never give up the gamepad...if you MUST trade just wait for the Samsung galaxy nexus to release...it will have 4g lte and android 4.0.

I just trade my xplay to a 2nd hand HD2 and moto atrix 4G.
Hd2 is always good, i used to own one, sold and buy again now. Since it's not native android, the battery is sooooooooo poor.
Moto is fast but the icons are so ugly compare with the sony ericsson icons. And I do miss the hardware buttons.
I have never been a fan of all touch buttons.

[Q] Is it Xperia Arc worth a Free Upgrade?

So...
this is my current Situtation...
I've been under a Contract for +14 months now with my career; when i first got the contract i got an Xperia X10 Back on October 2010 but i got bored of it and around May this year i made a switch for Free with them for the SGS1 which i must say is a beautiful phone and I really love how the phone works even it's more than 16 months old since it came out.
Here in Guatemala we have not too many options in regards of High End Phones such as the SGS2 or HTC at all... But i have the option of a Free Upgrade for 1 Xperia Arc in early December.
I've got someone from here who is willing to buy my SGS1 for a really good price (around USD $500 - High End phones are kinda expensive here hehe) and i wanted to ask for your opinion if you guys think is it worth to upgrade to the Arc and sell the SGS1... I mean i have the option of selling any of them and keep the other...
Also have you heard if Eventually the Arc will get the so awaited ICS update?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!
I have to say Yes We have few developers stepping in for building ROM's

I would upgrade to arc from SGS1 any day of the week... it's a really really great bit of kit... Love the camera, love the screen.. and it's not 100% confirmed for ICS but leaks have suggested that it will.
Sony have officially stated that all of their 2011 xperia models will be getting ICS. That includes the original arc as well as the arc S.
As far as the upgrading question goes, i would say the arc is definitely worth it. There are faster/more powerful phones out there, but nothing as well designed or with as good a camera.
Wow.I wouldn't buy a new galaxy S for 250$.sell it now

I've been a long time iPhone user, since the first one, and I just bought a Galaxy s3 and can honestly say I don't miss it at all. The new one is just more of the same....
This is probably going to get locked down real fast.....but its definitely a BIG dissappointment. Some of my friends are turning into hypocrites real fast saying they'll buy it. Actually, what we really need would be Google Wallet support for our GS3's without the hack-around. But we know that wouldn't work with Apple since they're now Anti-Google. Forget where i saw it... think it was on the news earlier, but i like how they put it. Something along the lines of "There is so much competition between Apple and Google, that Apple decided to recreate the world." in regards to Apple's new maps system.

This.
Its almost impossible to get (cheap) nfc tags in Canada. I asked a Best Buy rep at the Eaton Centre store in Toronto a couple of days ago, and he had no idea what NFC was.
I was really hoping the new iphone would have it so that it would become 'mainstream', but guess we have to wait another year now. Also, doesn't help that stupid S Beam is incompatible with Android Beam (try transferring photos to any non-GS3 phone, it will fail..till we get updated to JellyBean)

i remember reading reviews almost 'ranting' about how light the galaxy s and galaxy s ii were. people were saying 'too light', 'does not feel premium because phone does not feel substantial in hand', 'iphone is perfect with high quality weight to it', 'sometimes not sure if in pocket or not'. something along those lines.
and i read this on a youtube comment but I think it could hold some truth. could Apple have not included nfc (even if it wanted to/why wouldn't they want to?), because it already finalized its aluminum design? fail.

My previous phone was a Xperia Arc S, bought in GB 2.3. Sony update it to ICS, but the first update was a failure: far less memory available, many games stop working. 3 update later, it's better, but finaly i ended to put a custom rom, better than Sony one.
This is one reason why i don't buy another Sony phone. One other reason is there is no many differents models, that it make comparison between models too complicated.
Sony bootloader are locked, you can unlocked them to put different kernel, but you loose the warranty. It's not a big problems, you can always root and put new roms.
The build quality is good, except the paint: I bought a pink one, and paint around the corner fade in few months, showing white plastic behind.
It's still a good phone, I kept it as a backup one, in case of my Note II broke or is stolen. I put the Sony phone in plane mode, and in this mode, battery goes from 100% to 10% in 30days.
I'm always using Sony PC companion for sync between my Outlook account and phone. Kies sync directly the phone, without update you Google account. PC companion update you google account only, and after that you can sync you phone or any device related to you account.
Guys thank you so much !
You all help me a lot ! Love xda.

buy the nexus 4 instead, gnex is still good but its getting old, 4.3 could be its last update
For me it's just fine. It runs quite smoothly (much better on 4.1.2 though) and it's display is good (although, they seem to vary). If you're upgrading from a budget phone or an old single core snapdragon or something you'll be happy. If you expect it to run with the latest and greatest, though, you won't be happy.

Google is pushing to make Android less resource-intensive so that it can push some low cost handsets into developing regions. This involves much more than a smaller memory footprint. Expect an ultra-low cost Nexus handset on the horizon, along with the usual higher-end Nexus models.
It plays right into the hot air balloon project.
Apples sees it coming too, with their planned iPhone lite.
I'd recommend you look elsewhere really. The gnex isn't a bad phone, its just that for a similar price you can get a better experience.
A nexus 4 would be better if bought out right. The gnex has pretty poor battery life and the camera is fuzzy
On top of that, its almost 2 years old. Google will drop this device first out of the nexus line due to the specs alone (whenever that may be).

Thanks everyone for your opinions and replies, another reason why I thought of the GNex is because of the vast ROMs available, I really like fiddling with things like this, so.

Well it goes almost all of the nexus phones and in my opinion the gnex is still a good phone if you can get it for the right price.

Agree. I got one for €175 around a month ago. And I'm totally loving it.

Hm, how's the multitasking on the Gnex? With 1gb of RAM.
And battery life as well. If you guys don't mind.

In my opinion multitasking is good. Battery life with stock battery is quite bad. But that's of course different to how you use your phone.

Battery life is one thing that I have trouble with on this phone. There are ROM and kernel combos that can improve it for sure. Usually with light to moderate use I cam get through a day, but I just carry a spare battery around usually just in case. Multitasking usually works fine, but every now and again if I have some memory intensive things going like games it can slow down the multitasking some. In my opinion if it is cheap enough this phone is great. I still feel it is one of if not the best looking phones still out. The buttonless smooth look just works. I have had mine a year and I got it instead of waiting for the GS3 so I could keep unlimited data and I have not regretted it at all.

Battery life is great for me after using custom ROM and kernel. Franco. Its a good phone if you can get a deal for it, otherwise n4 is much improved,

Multitasking is fine. Works really well on 4.1.2.
Battery life greatly depends on GSM or CDMA. If GSM, with moderate usage it will last you the full day. I used mine lightly yesterday and I didn't bother charging it last night. Sitting at 68% left.
If it's LTE CDMA probably a good idea to get a spare battery..
