I've been experiencing something strange: Everytime I boot, my W always asks what launcher to use, *even* though I checked the "use as default" check box.
What could be the problem?

Where do you put the launcher? Is it in internal or SD card? If it's in SD card this sort of thing could happen, i have encounter this problem before. But if you put it in the internal memory this sort of thing wouldn't happen. I'm using GO Launcher EX and i'm putting it in internal and there aren't problem like this
Or you can try to convert the launcher you're using into system apps and just remove / disable stock launcher also works for me. I have try this and it works too. Hope it helps

Nemus Launcher was the first launcher that experienced this problem, but since that happened, all the other launchers experience the same problem.
(I have Nemus, Lightning, Holo, and Zeam; the last is the built-in launcher of Bionic Cow 2. No stock launcher.)

Looks like you got too much launcher installed.
Uninstalled those you don't need. It might be because your default launcher force closed the moment it loads. And the system take precaution to release the default status and ask for user input to select default launcher.
Try to convert it into system apps maybe?

But afterwards I chose a different launcher, and it doesn't force close, yet after boot it lost its default status, too.

About 1 out of every 3 times I reboot my Galaxy Nexus I end up with corrupted fonts. Rebooting again usually solves the problem, but it's starting to get annoying. Does anyone else have this problem, or have any idea what's causing it?
I am currently using the Gummi Custom Rom with Franco's Kernel, but this problem was happening on the stock rom, and other roms and kernels that I have tried.
Are you using the stock Launcher, or some mod?

It's Nova Launcher installed as a system app. I didn't think of the launcher because the fonts are still corrupted inside applications, it's not just limited to the launcher. It's not a true "mod", just a normal launcher application, the stock launcher is still present.

cool, thanks.
I've had the same problem several times. I have Nova installed but haven't been using it.
I'm using solely the stock launcher, and usually the corrupted fonts don't delve into the apps, just the launcher itself.
It's really annoying because the phone reboots itself randomly, then I have to reboot it again due to the corrupted font. Not that this happens everyday but one a week is often enough to annoy.
The problems seems to have stopped several versions of nova launcher ago. I guess the problem was fixed, intentionally or not.
Was using [ROM]DARKSIDE-Dewizzed-V2.5.2 [1/27/2012] and i got rid of the stock launcher in favor of GO Launcher and I deleted the stock SMS/MMS for GO SMS.
everything worked fine.....nice and smooth.
But I tried [ROM] Juggernaut v4.1 [Vultures Edition][Team Kang][12.27.2011] and did the same thing.....It runs slow and not smooth anymore...
oh yeah...I used root Explorer to delete the stock apps...
Have any of you done this type of thing???
You don't need to delete anything for future reference. Just hit the use as default.
I never deleted key stock apps like launcher, browser, contact, messaging, etc
Because I had a bad experience with my Old G1 that my 3rd party launcher (launcher pro, go launcher) keep fore closing and couldn't use my phone. In the end i had to flash another rom and lost all my data

Oh ok...thanks for the input.
A safer option is to freeze them thru titanium backup. They arent using up any battery in the backround and you can defrost them if you ever need them.

AOKP B36 w/Faux Kernel
Pure Calendar Widget (Redraw)
Beautiful Widgets(Redraw)
Clock (Redraw)
Effects Nova Launcher, Apex Launcher, Stock Launcher
Everytime I install an app from the market, my widgets redraw, without fail. I don't know if I've always had this, or If I just started noticing it.... but its everytime.... Am I alone here?
I need to fix this, as its really bugging me.
$10 to the first person who gets rid of my redraws on AOKP when installing an app from Google Play Store.
Anybody?
Use the V6 supercharger script and bulletproof your launcher.

Added $10 Bounty.
Have you tried adding this to the build.prop:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
Sent from my Maguro
I don't think its a memory issue, I think Google has programmed it to restart after installing an app so that the launcher shows each new app. It doesn't reset the widgets when you uninstall, but you can only uninstall one at a time instead of installing, lets say, 3 apps at once. But I might be wrong of course.

If that's the case does it still redraw it if you have the auto-add Widgets unchecked?

In and of themselves, build.prop edits are worthless in forcing the launcher to stay in memory in ICS. For precious versions of Android that worked, but it's ineffective from 4.0 up.
The OP simply needs to just follow the instructions on the V6 supercharger thread if he wants to eliminate the redraws. It's quite a simple and effective solution, actually. I've yet to have a single redraw after supercharging and bulletproofing about two months ago.

Don't forget to modify your services.jar. Uploading it to the 00M priority changer is without doubt the easiest way of making the necessary changes.

Its a launcher refresh. Maybe refreshing Widgets on app install etc.
Well idk I filled the launcher with nothing but Widgets all over the place and I couldn't recreate it. No build prop edit or anything fancy Just aokp b36 and faux 018b2. I was just throwing stuff out at him seeing if something worked

I thought it's something that everyone could recreate... Just install something from the market and exit to the homescreen...
I already knew about supercharger, but I heard it's near useless on the Galaxy nexus due to its high end specs....
I almost agree with a post above that it might be by design from Google.
Already tried unchecking auto add widgets...

Tried a bunch of times and no redraw... I'm using trebuchet as my launcher btw
Sent from my Maguro
I tried lot's of CM10 or 10.1 roms which I have a same problem, when I open Drawer, sometimes it will crash and go back to home screen, it looks like the trebuchet crashed and if I get into drawer again, it spend a long time with a loading cycle.
Have you guys met a same problem?
I have never had that problem, have you tried clearing data on trebuchet and see if it gets reproduced (you will lose all widgets and shortcuts on homescreen)?
Seems like launcher is being killed in low RAM condition

8.Backup -Titanium will do that for you instead [MUST]

12.File Manager - Replace it with Total Commander, Root Explorer, etc. [MUST]
13.Movie Studio
14.Sound Recorder - Better don't uninstall it, might be useful sometimes
15.Clock - Replace it with another clock widget [MUST]
16.Gallery - Replace it with QuickPic or another application [MUST]
17.Weather - Replace it with another widget [NOT A MUST]
18.Me Widget
19.Huawei Home - NOT RECOMMENDED but you can replace it with another Home Launcher [MUST]
20.FM Radio
21.Power Manager - NOT RECOMMENDED
22.App Installer - You'll have Total Commander or Root Explorer to do that for you [install apps] [MUST]
23.Street View
24.Calculator
25.Permission Manager - NOT RECOMMENDED

28.Help Center - NOT RECOMMENDED
MUST = It means that you MUST replace the removed system app with another app if you want that function to work properly. For example if you delete Gallery you will not be able to view photos unless you install another app to perform that function for you, so that's a MUST.
NOT A MUST = It means that a system app can be removed without installing another one to replace it, for example you can remove Polaris Office without installing Office Suite, let's say, but you can install another app if you want to open files that need that kind of app to perform that function, the same you can do with Calculator, there is no need for that app, only if you want it there,so that's NOT A MUST

With Clean Master, you can uninstall system apps, and it tells you if the app's important or not. Just an idea

It's always a good idea to keep at least two Home Launchers, just in case, the stock one and some other one you like best. That doesn't mean that you cannot uninstall the stock one completely, you can do it if you want, I just said that don;t uninstall the stock one unless you have another one. If it bothers you, uninstall it. No harm done. But be sure to have another Launcher.

Wait for the official release. It will be better.
Why can't Power manager be removed? If stock android has it's own methods, and you can use a app like greenify, for a coarser battery management (the system should still run the soc cores in the right management, per Governor setting). Is power manager somehow too integrated in the system, hardware? Or has no one tried?
