Has anyone seen a Improvement in Radio reception with the latest Nightly build? I was on 7/31/10 build and kept dropping my signal, so i moved to the leaked Froyo Rom and now im getting awesome coverage, but i want to go back to Cyan rom.

make a nand and try it the new nightly. If it was a major issue like that im sure it got fixed by now, i've never had any reception problems so i guess no? Make sure u have the new radios and wimax flashed, they greatly improved signal reception and overall speed for me
thanks I think i'll give it another shot tonight !

New Epic Owner Here!!

Coming from an EVO 4G. And I must say, this is the thinnest, fastest, sexiest beast of a phone ive ever owned!! So glad I made this purchase, I love this phone! Has probably the easiest root method as well. Currently on the EG30 modem. Recommend a system update? I was a fan of CM7/Decks over on the EVO, though, I know cm7/cm9 isnt available for this device yet, stable anyway. Can you guys recommend some stable roms/kernels to get me started? Thanks guys!
As I always say, it's a matter of personal preference. I have been using Calkulin's E4GT without a hitch, so start there and flash away until you find a ROM you're comfortable with. Welcome to the Epic Touch. Good luck.
PS-I would check into flashing the EL13 modem as well. For me, it has shown a speed increase.

golf clap. just be glad u got here after the fail eg30 31 debacle
Welcome to the ET4G!
I'd suggest flashing either Blazer ROM or Calk's ROM. I also heard Unnamed is getting pretty popular.
welcome to the forums bro, and yes, this is one HELL of a phone
I am rocking UnNamed and couldn't be happier right now...
The stock EL13 is rock solid.

calkulin's rom is nice, it's looks pretty much stock, but is fast and improves battery life, also very smooth.
the calk rom with the red carnage theme is sick! also running rogue "desperado" kernel with the el13 modem and oc'd to 1.6 g coming in at 6000+ on the antutu benchmark. its a sick set up i love this phone.
I just got mine as well, after having my same launch day evo. I am only rooted and I am very impressed with this device. No itch to flash any rom at this time.

Thanks guys. Running Calks rom and the EL13 modem. Think ill mess around with some kernels.
An Epic post from my Epic 4G Touch
Cool to see so many people go from the legendary EVO to the Epic. I did the same thing after my EVO screen cracked about a month ago.
I also use an all-EL13 setup and it's pretty stable.

I got my epic yesterday for the same reason. I broke my evo screen about two Weeks ago and insurance sent me a refurbed evo with white specs under the screen. The screen just stopped responding to my touch. I planned on getting another evo but when I went in the store the sales rep said I could sell them my evo and get a iPhone 4 for $16 but I ended up getting the epic after changing my mind like 3 times lol.
super easy
this method is super easy...
and has an option to keep your data intact in case you have a lot of apps already

[q] if you love your samsung epic 4g touch......

Hey guys, a while back i had the epic 4g, and it was the best phone in the world to me. The motorola photon came out and all i saw was dual core! so i jumped off the samsung epic ship and boarded the motorola photon ship......BIG MISTAKE....there wasnt anything i couldnt do with the epic 4g. Between the devs, and learning how to really have some modding fun with the epic, there wasnt really much of a limit on it. Ive been arguing with sprint for 6 months to allow me to upgrade both my lines, and they finally agreed! Ive had so many problems with the motorola photon, and the dev. department can only do so much without an unlocked bootloader...anyway, Im phone shopping now, and i wanna come back to the samsung epic family. I really like the epic touch 4g. Can you please comment on your experience with the phone? Is 4g and GPS working stable on all the roms? Im so eager and excited...I want to wait for the galaxy nexus, but ive got to take advantage of this opportunity while i have the chance, and the galaxy nexus is slightly outa hands reach...I will await your thoughts.....
This phone is awesome I just came from a nexus s and I don't miss it at all! Especially with CM9 the GPS and 4G is awesome where I live!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
everything is working great for me and i also asked about the nexus and generally everyone agreed that it wont really offer much more then the e4gt. i think just a little bigger screen and more internal memory
It's ultimately that YMMV. I heard that the photons have better modems so they can get better signals compared to the epic 4g touch.
However, ROM development has really been kicking off. We have three main AOSP ROMS, CM 9, AOKP, and Codename Android, which are all about to be updated to Android 4.0.4 and able to record video again. All silky smooth. Make sure to not flash or wipe anything if you flash to ICS or you risk bricking.
As far as hardware, you should check if you have LTE where you live if you want to take advantage of it on the Galaxy Nexus.
Here's a thread asking a similar question
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568211
In all honesty, this is the longest I've ever kept a phone and I've had it since it released in September. I love this phone and the devs (and contributors) here at XDA just give me new ways to enjoy my phone and make it work for me.
I'll be eyeing the new HTC and SGS3 (if it ever comes out) but it would take a lot to make me jump ship, and truly, that is saying a lot for me.
@darkfire2024, i must admit, some of my co-workers have the epic touch 4g and when they dont have any bars of service, i usually have full bars. Not that it helps to have full bars, i might beable to make a call, but i definitely dont have any 3g coverage...I live in chicago, im sure it will be months before they release lte over here. I checked that thread. Very useful, thanks for your advice.
I'd like to say this is by the best phone I've ever used. The great thing, as you pointed out, is the active devs here, they are incredible. I recently helped a co-worker with his newest Droid4; get it at least rooted anyways, and I felt even better about my phone. Great thing is you have SO many options to choose from - especially for connectivity! Maybe the EL29 modem works best on your phone and in your neighborhood. Maybe it's the FC07 or FC24 or even one of the EK versions. The point being you can find out! I've been lucky and had progressively better speeds for both 4G and 3G with each version (except one early FC; caused batter drain and got no 4G) Good luck.
Edit: forgot to add that if you do go flashing different modems, make sure to update the PRL and Profile after/between the updates! I keep coming back to the Blazer GB ROM - literally everything works and works great. I've got a couple FC24 builds I'll probably try this weekend. But we'll see. I'm sure the final offical ICS code will drop very soon; then we'll see some great crazy development.
Excellent phone. GB ROMs are perfect. ICS are good, but they do still have some issues.

The ICS issues are known and most have work arounds, but some of us are lucky and don't experience them. I think ICS is great, but I don't have any of the issues. Look at first few posts for known issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512419

My thoughts exactly. I have used the nexus in the verizon store and I must say the e4gt runs smoother. Samsung really hit the nail on the head with this phone it is perfect! No lag at all. Watch the video comparing the two by FlossyCarter on youtube you will see what I mean when I say the epic runs better. Like others have said this is the phone that I have owned the longest because with cell phones I am always getting sick of them after a couple weeks (Iphone) this phone has so much dev support and is just so awesome I can see myself holding on to it for another year easily!
This phone is the best I've ever had the pleasure to own and I've owned a lot (see my signature)

right! plus ICS is making it super raw lol. everytime i pick this joint up to use it im still in awe like the first day I got it. Im amazed by how powerful and advanced this thing is. Im totally satisfied with it. Never had a phone this long either, and unless the note comes to sprint, I wont be ditching it anytime soon. Not even for the GNEX which IMO is a downgrade.
the best I always fight w m friend on whos better is iPhone or my epic 4g touch
Et4g + AOSP ICS > gNex ;-)

If I were you I would wait about 2 weeks man! Rumor has it the Galaxy Nexus might be released on sprint April 15. Besides that phone I would just wait for the Galaxy S3 which should be out in the next 6-8 months!
I switch phones quite a bit as well but to be honest with you this phone is the best I've ever owned, and with so much dev support you never get tired of it.
Coming from the HTC Evo 3D I can say this phone blows it out the water. Love my Epic Touch

[Q] On latest stock ROM but lusting over JellyBean, which ROM is most stable?

Just got my S3 last week. Already rooted it and LTE seems to work for me in Boston. Got that latest ROM pushed in. Now I am lusting after JellyBean. There is just so much choice out there. I just want to make sure I retain LTE and TouchWiz. Rest I am openminded about.
The only tw rom that is jellybean is the ported rom from leak of T-Mobile here is the link

[ROM][LEAK] Stock TouchWiz JellyBean (T999UVDLI7 Leak Port) - 09/15/2012 (NEW BASE)
This is tw jellybean but there r bugs in there and not stable u can search that thread and see. That would be the closet to a stable jellybean touch wiz rom. Another way is to do Aosp or cm10 and get a theme from the play store that mimicks touchwiz. For LTE u need to look at the thread I posted and see for cm10 and AOSP.
Rooted Evo dead
Rooted Evo shift dead
Rooted Galaxy s3 alive and well!

I'm actually running that leak now its not too bad in terms of stability. They worked out most of the issues with it.

If you don't want TW, Paranoid Android worked really well for me. I can't speak for it's LTE performance, as I live basically in the middle of the desert.

[q] xperia s jelly bean

So, after we finally get Jelly Bean in february, march or whatever (hate you sony), will we be getting 4.1.2 or 4.2 ??
if they update it to 4.1.2, i seriously am going to kill them. they cant be taking this much time just to update it AGAIN to a version that has been out for 5 months.
