Have you tried updating superuser binary from the superuser app after flashing?

brave enough skr_xd!!
Flashed this too! Works!
For root i used voodoo app to restore it.
I updated su binary, to 3.1.1 i think.. first time failed, and retried and worked!
Also root apps worked too (eg TiBu for restoring my apps..)

Yeah, I had this too. Just root it manually from adb in the recovery. That worked fine for me.

Well you can fastboot flash the kernel, or since you're in recovery just reflash the rom before rebooting.

This is TWRP 2.2.1.3 repackaged with the kernel from the OTA. This is ONLY for people on the jb OTA that have a "hanging" recovery.
Note that backup and restore of /boot (rom kernels) won't work. So after a restore you'll need to reflash the rom. But hey.. hopefully you won't be bricked
Of course, the standard disclaimer applies that you flash at your own risk.

That's normal.... Now hold power until it powers off, then power on, you should see a blue bar flash by then it'll reboot again, then try to get into recovery.

I did. There's no blue bar. And fastboot -i 0x0b05 reboot doesn't do anything.

Works!

Thank you sir! Just did it. It worked! Booted in recovery and made a back up on my sd card to test.

If you were rooted before the update (I believe) the su files were left intact. You just need to reinstall superuser. I recommend getting SuperSU from the market. It will update the su files when you first launch it. If you still don't get root it has options to clean up and reinstall su.
With root back you can use the adb method; which is what I did. And it worked perfectly.

I would wait.
Since boot partition is not supported yet, you need to manually flash kernel.
So twrp didnt work on jb because of new kernel, 3.1 instead of 2.6?
So when twrp for jb, supports restore of boot partition(kernel), and someone restores to a ics rom, will the recovery work? Or will need to restore recovery too?

Yup I shoulda waited. Tried to flash the new CM 4.1.1 nightly and wouldn't boot. Then tried to restore backup of official JB and won't boot either. So stuck on Asus boot screen now. Weird, yesterday tried to restore to Hydro from official JB and wouldn't boot, so I then restored my official JB back up and it worked but not anymore. Is thus an official brick?

It puts stock recovery just incase you loaded an invalid recovery img or something not compatible, therefore when u attempt to access recovery it wouldn't load. Mainly put this up because I was going in circles trying to with stuff posted on the irc. For example, I flashed insecure, and it just froze at the htc loading screen.

Yup, just the original recovery program that came with the phone. In case you want it for any reason, or want to put the phone back to stock stock everything stock... or in case you need a recovery which is confirmed working.

I havent tried it but.. You would have to revert to stock, using the other guide. Then flash this to remove the clockworkmod recovery.
That should be all stock, if im not mistaken.

Odd. My phone did not come with a recovery. I got it the Oct 3rd from RadioShack, so maybe that's why. When I tried to enter recovery from fastboot, it would give me a screen with a warning triangle and needed a battery pull. That's why I was wondering what in the world the stock recovery was.

NO, your phone most certainly had a stock recovery, you just didn't press the Volume Up and Power button at the same time when your phone got to the "warning triangle". If you'd done that you would have gotten to the recovery menu.

Going by that error, I'm gonna assume your still s-on. You might want to start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842495
Read the whole thing, but at least have the answers to the 2nd post before posting up you question.
Also, nothing against paul or any maker of the apps that do stuff like this, but really all this rooting/rom flashing stuff needs to be done the manual way. Apps mess up sometimes and could put you in a bad spot. At least if you did it manually you would know what you did wrong, and hopefully catch it before you reboot.
You might also want to post in the visionary thread as maybe these guys know of a fix for whatever the app is doing.

flash this in stock recovery?

I downloaded a flashable zip of dsp manager, can I rename to update.zip and flash through stock recovery?
currently I am running (sprint) stock jelly bean rom JRO03U FH05 rooted (only rooted to flash dsp through cwm) and Ive been noticing data drops for long periods and want to unroot incase I need to go to the store but I want to keep dsp manager and any unroot method I see will wipe it out.
edit: ive found that when I have a lengthy data drop toggling wifi on and off re-establishes the 3g connection. Anyone think they know what my problem is?

Stock recovery cannot flash, you need a custom one for that.
As for your data drops: have you tried verifying your APN settings? Tried a different radio?

ive tried different roms, odining to stock, different radios, and different kernels. are the apns just like your "mobile network type",ip address, MEID, etc? thanks for the response.
Edit: So what you say about the recovery means I cant have dsp manager without being rooted? Or can I flash cwm or twrp by just changing the recovery files and flashing a recovery img without root?
Couldn't you just turn on USB debugging, connect to your PC, "fastboot boot (somecustomrecovery).IMG", and use it to flash the dspmanager.zip?
BTW, to unroot, all you have to do is delete "su" and "supersu.apk" (or "superuser.apk" if you're using that).

Yes you can, if a flashable zip of DSP manager exists (I'm not sure). Just boot or flash a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP indeed), and use it to flash the DSP manager zip.

just one thing: you didnt need to flash cwm, just boot it:
Code:

this way you keep whatever recovery is installed, allows you to try out stuff, without really flashing them.

I can't boot into recovery with any app due to the fact it requires su permission and I have no binaries according to su. I cant get into recovery either using 3 finger method the Samsung logo appears with the blue words on the top left, but it doesn't do anything after that. ROM manager shows my recovery as twrp so I'm in a pickle....lol
And no on turning on root in settings.
Then you need to find a computer to flash recovery again via odin, otherwise flash a rooted rom via odin.

There isn't an option under settings --> developer options for root? At one time, they had didn't options for apps, adb, or both. You would need the both box checked for it to boot into recovery via an app. I haven't used it in a while, so I'm not even sure if they still do it this way.
And it is strange that you can't boot in recovery. Instead of the power off, then hold volume up, home button, and power....have you just tried to reboot the phone and when the screen goes blank hold the volume up and home? I've had luck getting into recovery by that.
Plus, if you are running CM, there should be a reboot option for recovery when you power off. Reboot --> recovery.
Last idea, have you tried to download goo manager from the market? That works well with TWRP.

Cm does have the reboot options, but it had to be turned on. Developer options doesnt show up under settings, but I remember there was a way to turn it on. I went under "About phone or Device" clicked on everything like 10 times and I forgot which 1 it was, but I unlocked developer options. Turned on reboot menu. Rebooted phone into recovery and although it took a while I got into recovery. Flashed a new rom and I'm back in action.

[GUIDE] The easiest way to install CWM in ICS (no unbricking needed)

NOW YOU CAN INSTALL CWM DIRECTLY FROM ICS
INSTALL AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER WITHOUT UNBRICKING
A few months ago I found this thread on XDA :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42657066
This thread provided a way to install CWM from Jellybean V30C for the SU640 without unbricking the phone first. Now not exactly the same, the phones are close enough that it peaked my interest. Digging into it I discovered that the partition mmcblk0p7 contains the bootloader, and it was as simple as pushing the unlocked bootloader from Gingerbread to the correct partition, therefore bypassing the entire need to unbrick the phone first and thus allowing the install of CWM.
So I got brave enough and installed the P936 v10i Gingerbread ROM and used the command in ADB shell to extract the bootloader:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/bootloader.img. After this I restored my phone completely to stock. Rooted using the root at the above link, then ran my batch file and I had CWM no Security Error!!
The steps are simple:
Start with stock ICS (any version, carrier or phone version p93x). v20c, v20d, v20e, or v20f.
1. ROOT PHONE with the root from the above link or any method that works for you.
2. Run my batch file.
3. Install a custom ROM.
Before anyone asks me I used v 6.0.1.5 TOUCH for CWM. There are actually several reasons why. For me v 6.0.4.5 was incompatible with any ROM with kernel version 3.4. Also if I would initiate a backup from the Rom Manager app, CWM couldn't locate the backup directory.
ENJOY
:victory:
First this only is recommended for LG's Nitro HD models P930, P935 & P936. I do not recommend installing on the SU640 or LU6200.
Thnks!
Worked like a charm! (the second time lol)
I've been waiting for an easy workaround like this, you're great!
Awesome work.
Where did you get CWM 6.0.1.4? Is it the recovery.img located in the zip in the OP? I have two P930s and both have 6.0.4.5 installed. On one, I can get into recovery without a problem, the other one can't.
Thanks

Yes it will work since it replaces the locked boot loader with an unlocked one.

May have something to do where it is stored on your C drive. Try copying the folder to the root directory on your C drive and running the batch file with administrator permissions.

I never managed to get into recovery with the phone off. If I long press volume down with power button I get the message if I want to permanently erase everything (factory reset) and if I long press volume up with power I get into download mode.
(using lg nitro hd, cm 10.2.1, unbricked and rooted using hereric's guide, and I have latest cwm installed)

That is exactly the message that you want. Press power button twice and you will be in CWM. It says factory reset because that is what will happen if you didn't have a custom recovery installed, no worries though.

I do not remember which technique I used to root my phone, but it is rooted and currently running sphinx. Can I just flash the bootloader on my phone as is ? or do I need to revert to stock first ?

Yes you can flash directly, since it only flashes the boot loader and recovery it will not touch your ROM.

[STOCK BASED KERNEL]10.4.B.0.569[UB][DUAL BOOT RECOVERY ](Philz+TWRP)

Aimed primarily at those who have unlocked bootloader and want to root .569 firmware. Can also be used as a daily driver.
Stock kernel with only recovery added using @osm0sis's Android image kitchen. (Big thanks to him )
Instructions:
Make sure your bootloader is unlocked. (Backup TA partition on directly rootable firmware beforehand if unlocking for the first time.)
Ensure you have @Chainfire's latest SuperSU.zip from here SuperSU-v1.89.zip on your internal or external SD card.
Flash the boot.img from HERE with flashtool or command line.
Reboot, and press volume up when blue LED comes on to enter Philz CWM Advanced Edition recovery,
Or volume down to enter TWRP
Flash SuperSU-.zip from where ever you stored it.
Reboot - Done:good:

@shoey63
Is it working on your device ? Is it also C6502 or other
I see what you did in the new kernel , you changed the recovery-ramdisk .
I tried that too with others from CM 10.2 and CM11.0 kernels but no luck.
The phone boots.....vibrates & purple LED appears......i press vol-up several times....phones boots into the homescreen.
Everything works fine but the CWM window never appears.
Thats why i'm asking you again where did you get the kernel source ? I cannot find it on sony developer world

Stiil not working on mine.
I dont know how Supergen2 managed to get it working i would like to know.
I flashed stock ftf before flashing the kernel so there were no mods interfering with the kernel.
Can anyone help ?
Did you try to boot into recovery via adb?
adb reboot recovery
So you can test if it is a general problem with recovery or with pressing keys in.the boot process.
When I had a recovery on my phone (I currently don't have one, and it had not been this recovery kernel by shoey) I was only able to boot into it via adb or the app X-Parts.
Xperia ZL, 4.2.2 Stock (.67), rooted
