Really? At the risk of sounding like a jerk.... How did you even find your way into the Q&A section without seeing tons of posts about "When will we get the ICS update?"
Just to let you know, once the OTA ICS update is released you will not be able to download it since you are not on the Verizon network. What you will need to do is S-OFF (or at least HTC Dev Unlock) your phone so that you can flash a custom rom. The best part about this is that you don't even have to wait for a custom rom to be released thanks to our awesome devs! You have tons of options for ICS, if you want stock Nitsuj17 just posted a leaked version of the update earlier today and he also has another sense ICS rom out, CondemnedSoul soul has a few nice options (AOKP and CM9 or if you want JellyBean he has the new version of AOKP as well,) Aerovan has an awesome CM9 and a CM10 rom, TazzPatriot has a sense ICS rom out too. There are others as well, those are just the ones that spring to mind.

Thanks

There is no real "stock" ICS ROM yet as it hasn't been released. The closest ROMs to stock ICS at the moment are:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846304
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745483
The first link is the closest as it is from a test leak.

thanks

Just stay stock. If you are that much of a rookie to this, it just might make things worse at this point in time. Most don't have GSM working 100% from what I understand (GSM users can correct me on that).
But, if you haven't even rooted yet, you are still a bit away from being able to flash one of those bad boys. I say give it another week at least to see what these devs can do with the leaked rom.
It will probably be easier for you. If not, and you think you are ready to take the plunge, than good luck and enjoy!

[Q] ICS Update

does anyone know if their is going to be an IceCreamSandwich update for the dinc2 non rooted just a regular ol update. also do you know when if so.
I don't mean to be rude, but I actually can't understand what you wrote. :/
is their going to be and ics (ice cream sandwich) update for the droid incredible 2 without having to root and flash device.
Yes there will be an update from Verizon/Htc to Ics/Sense 3.6 (I assume it will be 3.6) sometime in the future. No root required. When, hopefully before the new year.
This ^^
Thanks for clarifying.
alright thanks but until then what would you recommend for the most stable ics rom?
AOKP build 32 with my Cam/Camcorder patch (within the last couple pages in general), aero's v9 kernel (rootzwiki cm9 unofficial thread), AGPS patch (somewhere in our dev section) and don't forget to flash the 3/17 gapps!
alright well im good with this stuff but not that good, i guess i would still be considered a noob :/

[Q] ARHD - newbie alert....

My HOX is my first android phone, having come from the darkside :good:
Learnt an awful lot reading on here so far.. managed to Root n boot it & now stuck with ROMs
Thinking from reading that the ARHD is the way to go to begin with, but a couple of questions should I flash the latest available or is it worth waiting for one based on an official release rather than the current leaked HTC?
Secondly I'm still not sure on the kernels business & whether I should just leave that well alone for now?
Thanks in advance for any help :cyclops:

I suggest you try the newest, it has plenty of fixes: heating is gone, launcher is 60fps.
Kernels are just matter of preference, stock kernel is the most stable and newer one. Gaming is a lot of better with custom kernel like Franco or faux if you use interactive governor.
I'm using the leaked base ARHD with stock kernel and having no problems at all!

I'll say the newest Arhd is all fine. It fixes some heat issues found on previous base(1.29.x). The latest one is better optimized(think it's 7.1, the arhd version(base 2.x)) and stock kernel will be fine. If you game a lot, which I'm sure you'll probably do some time, whether it be now or later. Leave the kernel for now, you'll probably know when or whether you want a different kernel.

All done, and pretty painless except it hung on the HTC screen after ticking the reboot option at the end, but a power on and off sorted just fine so now a member of the ARHD club :-D
One more question, should I delete the backups made via titanium BEFORE the rom change and do a fresh one now I've restored my apps via it please?

What's best for nitro p930?

Hi guys, got nitro hd a few weeks later. Till now never rooted and it's still in gb 2.3.5. Now wanted to try something and thought of upgrade or flashing a roms.
So what I need is, should i go for official ICS or cm rom. And as I'm a noob would like a detailed tutorial on flashing/rooting.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here's my suggestion of how to progress into the custom ROMs world...
1. Read about rooting your Nitro. Look in our Dev Forum for guides on doing it.
2. Root while you're still on 2.3.5 (to circumvent any of the stated issues with rooting Official ICS), also install CWM (ClockworkMod) on it as it will allow you to easily install ROMs.
3. Then try the CM9 ROM nightlies. It's fast, stable and smooth.
4. After you've gotten comfortable with that and have gone through a few nightlies...Then you can feel free to venture forth into the other custom ROMs (MAKE SURE you're familiar with making proper backups in case you want to revert back to previous builds/ROMs), or even the CM10 Preview builds.
Good luck!

Sorry to Hijack .But isnt it like a Pain to Root the Official ICS update ,wouldnt it be easier to root on 2.3.5 and install CWM and then flash ? Im not second guessing you ,I just got my Nitro HD today but been reading that the process to root ICS is kind of long and tricky.

You could be right. I rooted mine back on 2.3.5 so I haven't gone through any of the hassles as have been stated with rooting from official ICS. I shall adjust my original post.
Doble check.
OP double check your baseband version cuase if its 2.3.5 V10j ,it has been stated that its nearly impossible yet doable after many tries.
To be honest, I don't know more details about the android world. Can someone plz link the basics of android like cwm, adb & so I can have some basic knowledge about it.
Actually, I feared I would brick it.
And thanks guys for the replies.

If you wanna try the official ICS, get cwm from ROM manager. Then download honos flash able official ICS. Try it out, if you like it, keep it, if you don't, switch to something like cm9 or cm10 or hono's full throttle or honos aokp, the choices are endless, all you need to do is search .

Try the official ics before custom ics, it's WAY faster than official gingerbread, it's stable and once debloated it's pretty perfect as it is to me.
Then if you want to taste something else, try the cm9/10 but I would let them as a second passage to ics/jb.
For the official rom you can either flashing with lg tool (using the before - after rooting method brianlily posted here) or go with cwm as stated by rani9990, it should be the same.. the substantial difference is that if you don't put the cwm recovery before ics, then you'll need to go through partial unbrick process to revert back to gingerbread, because on ics the cwm won't be possible to install.

Is there any particular reason to root ? Unless you hate the Sense UI or want to install some mod, the new 4.0.4 update is pretty smooth and good with battery life (battery is better than most other AOSP JB ROMs with custom kernels out there).

I was asking OP, because he/she is hesitating. Perhaps the problem OP is having can be resolved without rooting.
@fredfb : Rooting CAN hurt, because rooting requires you to unlock the bootloader, (and if you haven't already read or heard) that can void your warranty !!
P.S: I'm already running a custom ROM, have tried couple of AOSP JB ROMs, but battery life and lack of a decent camera forced me to come back to Sense, now I'm on Viper X, I like the quick settings and the ability to customize various other things, but I can certainly live without them. And I assume many others can too.. So why risk loosing warranty if there is no benefit ??
I always have this urge to get the newest of things. But maybe there are not that many new features. Is battery life that bad in custom roms? I get almost two days of battery life with moderate use.

My friend wants me to root his gs2 he just got.. I rooted my kids mothers gs3 for sprint few months back.. So i kno samsung phones are pretty easy to root but i wanted to kno whats the newest root and unlock method to use? im sure he on the newest base.. I want to unlock the bootloader flash recovery and root.. Thanks guys:good:
Well I welcome you're friend to the T989 community. This phone will be referred to as the T989 or Hercules, this is important to know when flashing a new ROM, etc.
This link will help you to initially root the phone. All instructions are listed in the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311194
As per flashing other ROMs, I would suggest you to install CWM or TWRP. The reason you should update is because the recovery in the rooting thread is quite old.
Link for CWM: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager (scroll down to Samsung Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile)
Link for TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768742

Well this phone is proposed to get an update but no one knows when.
For the best Samsung jellybean experience I would suggest you to use Jedi Jelly. It is sort of like the official Jelly Bean update but its ported from the Skyrocket (both phones are cross-compatible with most ROMs). Currently it has no kernels because it was leaked on the Skyrocket.
As per the AOSP experience, we have a wide range of flavors. The 4.2.x ROMs are pretty stable with only minor bugs which get fixed almost every week. Both are CM10.1, AOKP and P.A.C man ROM. We also have 4.1.x ROMs in CM10 which come in CM10, AOKP, PA, P.A.C Man, Slimbean, Avatar, and some more.
Most of these ROMs are very stable, and if you're looking for the nice one, which is my personal favorite, I'd go for Slim-Star: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109841
