1. What type of HSPA+ does it support? 14.4, 21, or 42 mbps?
2. Does the GNex work on T-Mobile's monthly 4G plans? That's the no contract plans, basically month to month.
3. Is it basically a pop a SIM in and it should all work?
4. When I flash ROMs, I use this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1339, correct?
5. Will the ROMs have any affect on the phone's connection or anything to mess it up from T-Mobile? I only ask because the phone is not tailor made for T Mobile so maybe a ROM could throw it off.
Thank you, guys.

1- 21
2- yes, I have monthly 4g and G-Nex.
3- yes the phone is unlocked Pentaband. If you have a valid Sim card, it should work.
4- I honestly didn't look at the forum you linked to, but sure. You go to the Android development section and find roms there.
5- off course a ROM could affect your functionality. Read the thread before you flash. Not all roms run 100%. Most will have known bugs listed in the description of the thread. If you have an issue you don't like, flash a new ROM.

1. It supports up to HSPA +21 (in Casselberry, FL I average 7Mbps speeds in a "very good coverage" area according to their map).
2. From what I understand, it does. Look in the Galaxy Nexus General thread for better information on that.
3. Yup!
4. Galaxy Nexus GSM thread (not Sprint or Verizon).
5. ROM won't effect anything to do with T-Mobile.
On a side note, you will not access 4G on T-Mobile. Its not a T-Mobile phone and it won't support 4G. Depending on your area, though, you should have more then adequate speeds

Thanks buddy.
Btw I have like two more questions.
1. How much do you pay on monthly 4G? I want to get the $60 but I want to make sure it's $60 and not $60 plus a load of taxes.
2. About the ROM affecting functionality, that is a given. What I was talking about, is flashing different radios and ROMs going to affect my connection with T Mobile? Like if I flash a new radio, will my data or text or talk go out? I know that there's always bugs but that's the stuff I'm really worried about.

I live in Miami, my friend gets amazing 4G. He has a SGS2 and is on T Mobile. But the SGS2 is dual channel HSPA+ 21, basically it's '42 mbps' but not really. I think that HSPA+ 21 is still '4G' but T Mobile marketing.

GSM is a standard. There's a reason why there's only 1 GSM forum. Your ROM has absolutely no bearing on your carrier or connection.

This is 100% false. Not sure who's telling you this. Your speeds are completely and utterly the exact same as a 21mbps HSPA+ device that is T-Mobile branded.

As I said above, no, it has no effect on anything. If it's a GSM ROM it will never break anything unless the ROM is inherently packaged or changed incorrectly.

Yes that's where you buy Activation Kits for T-Mo Prepaid. Please go read the Prepaid thread in my sig and do some research instead of creating new threads. Ask questions in there pertaining to prepaid.
There is a TON of misinformation out there, as evidenced by this thread (sorry but some people just have no idea what they're talking about). You'll get much better info in the prepaid thread than the General or Q&A sections.

GNex speeds will be noticeably lower than a T-Mobile branded SGSII. Comparing 21mbps vs. 42mbps in a 42mbps-enabled zone will make it clear. You should find yourself getting speeds of about 10mbps at the highest.
I'm going to sell my iPhone 4S and buy a GNex. Then I go to the store and get the T Mobile Monthly 4G plan, the $60 one. The only question I have is the activation method and paying it monthly.
How do I go about doing those things? How do I activate and how do I pay it monthly since a bill won't be arriving?
Sorry if I'm being annoying, I just need to know. I've been on contract since I first got a phone so I don't what pre-paid is like.

You can buy a t mobile Sim and activation kit from t mobile. You could save some $ and find one online for cheaper though. myself, I went to the t mobile store and they just gave me one for free.
You can activate it online when you pay for the plan you want.
You can also set up an automatic pay plan via the my.t-mobile website.

Hey guys, i was just wondering if a Tmobile branded SGN2 can be "turned into" a ATT Note 2? i have an ATT 4G sim card in the TMo phone, but im not getting LTE or GPS. Love the phone, but i cant stand being on 3G speeds with no GPS.
for those wondering, my cousin sold me his TMO SGN2 because it was too big for him and he got an S3.
Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance!!!!!!!!!!!
im guessing you would have it have it unlocked to work on another GSM carrier like any other phone.
it is possible as so far everyone is saying that technically the hardware are the same but no one seem to have yet to test or come up with a way to enable the lte portion of the phone. I think it won't be something that is possible now until tmo rolls out lte and possibly then they will unlock the lte radio on the phone. Then maybe one of smart guys at xda can then help. As for now, the answer is probably no.
The biggest question is LTE. The LTE chip is in the Tmo phone but deactivated. As far as I know, no one has figured out yet how to activate it.
You may have to settle for HSPA speeds for now.
I tried an att gs3 on t mobile and it stuck me on edge. The two networks only use one of the same frequencies for 3.5g. And of course, t mobile has no lte... so don't expect to get any decent speeds. My solution to the problem? I bought a t mobile gs3
Shouldnt flashing an att modem/radio solve that issue? With all the att network settings and flashed att modem, it should theoretically "unlock" the LTE because its built into the phone? Just trying to fully understand whats keeping it from doing so.
Thanks again for the quick responses and insight.

Why not just get an att model? Less headaches. Sell the t mobile note and buy an att model
---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:49 PM ----------
Why not just get an att model? Less headaches. Sell the t mobile note and buy an att model. I doubt flashing any att software would make lte work. Again, t mobile and att only share one (1) frequency for data. And t mobile does not have lte. They may share similar hardware but as I learned they are very different. Just get the unlock codes and try it
in theory yes, however, it seemed to be more than just the modem. It is possible that there are some other things that locked the features and without enabling the LTE funtionality, it will not work. Also just because they use the same hardware does not guarantee that every components are there. I am not hardware engineer but I think even if they use the same chip, it still needs other parts like amplifier, etc.
don't forget flashing the radio can potentially brick the phone, so always be careful when doing so
As Verizon is charging $700 compared to the 800+ at&t is charging for an off contract note 4 I was wondering if its possible to use the off contract verizon Note 4 on AT&T. How would one use a CDMA device on a GSM network??
It was my understanding that all Verizon phones now had a SIM slot for LTE Compatibility? I assumed if the Sim slot was unlocked you'd be able to put an AT&T sim card in and configure carrier settings and get access but wanted to confirm?

Most modern Verizon phones have GSM radios in it, and it's unlocked.
The problem with using Verizon's Note 4 on AT&T is LTE. They don't have the same radio, so you'd be stuck on AT&T's 3G.
This was the conversation I had with an AT&T rep today. She was convinced I could just buy the Note 4 from VZW at $699 and bring it over to AT&T... she didn't mention, nor did she seem to be aware that LTE would not work.
Yes well, it all depends on the ATT LTE Band that's in use in your area. I have a VZW S5 that's on ATT prepaid pulling LTE all day. Band 7 I believe.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
VZW phones generally have radios with some overlapping LTE band coverage with both ATT and TMO. AWS Band 4 I believe is used by all 3 carriers but not in all areas of the US.
Unfortunately VZW mainly uses Band 13 and ATT band 17 although supposedly Samsung devices have this enabled in the Hidden Menus but I have never gotten band 17 on ATT.
My 2 cents
Verizon's website says their model supports bands 4 and 13. The AT&T website says their model supports bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 20, and 29. From what I remember, AT&T's primary LTE bands are 4 and 17 so if Verizon is being completely truthful and it doesn't support any other bands other than 4 and 13, your LTE coverage may be spotty or even completely non existent.
Verizon Note 4 is out now...
Anyone have a report yet?
I can confirm verizon note 4 is working on at&t & tmobile.
I just got my verizon note 4 today and i put my tmobile sim in it and i had to do apn settings and it worked fine the only problem is lte is not working it worked on hspa and my speeds were 6mb down and 2.5 mb up. Which is good for me.
But if u want to use lte u have to enable band 4 which is locked on verizon model. To enanble it u neef to root ur phone with chainfire root (it's the only method to root right now) but it will trip knox sensor and void ur warranty .
And same applies for at&t. No lte but 6mb on hsps looks good to me.

U just need to enter the right apn settings. I'm getting mms just fine on straight talk. My problem is that our phones support air view with pen and finger, and yet they buried the setting so deep we need root to access it and make it stick. I used nova launcher to access the setting but it turns back off once the phone is put to sleep. Stupid! Just let us decide If we want it or not!!!

So the Note 4 requires root to enable the service menus in order to enable the various bands available on the phone. Verizon has chosen to restrict this access. You need to modify the build.prop and the efs\carrier\hiddenMenu file. So until a root procedure is available the retail version is stuck with HSPA+, which isn't too bad I guess.
Working on my s5 I have made the changes but I am still figuring out how to exactly turn on the disabled bands. I am also hoping these modifications will apply to the Note 4 once root is available.

I have read some posts here and there about it, from what i could find out it does work with tmobile, ive seen some people had problems with lte, but i also seen others had no issues at all with it. Yes.
I have a Sprint Edge+ and am currently on T-Mobile.
The only unlock i've found that works is idoneapps. (requires root and tripping knox)
They want money though.
After getting unlocked with their help, I had to flash a stock Sprint ROM to get LTE working.
I'm getting about 60Mbps up and 30Mbps down on T-Mobile with my Sprint Edge+
Good luck.

Does anyone know which of these two has the most or strongest coverage areas with 4G / 4G LTE in the USA? I'm asking because I'm currently using AT&T and their services cover just about every area I have been to. The 4G is awesome. But StraightTalk gives you 5 GB of high-speed data for just $45.00 /mo. while AT&T only offers 2 GB. Is StraightTalk's services as good as or better than AT&T's?
Straight talk uses 3 different networks for byop. Sprint,at&t, and T-Mobile networks. If youre using an at&t modeled phone on straight talk youre still using at&t network. If you brought a tmobile phone to them it would use t mobiles network. And same thing for sprint phones. But why not go to cricket? Im using my unlocked d851 on cricket which is also at&ts network. But i get 10gb LTE for 60 a month. Im definitely happy with it. I havent gone over my high speed limit yet. Ive been with cricket for 5 months now

I see. It's good to know that 10 GB is good for a whole month. Did you know that StraightTalk also offers 10 GB / mo. for $55.00 /mo.? BTW, I decided to go with StraightTalk AT&T's services! I love AT&T!
No i didnt know that. Well maybe ill switch to them next month. I had a sprint phone i used with them a couple years ago. Do they still have a processing fee on bill payments? Because cricket is 60 dollars even. Ill def go for 55/ month straight talk. I just hope they dont give me a sim that uses t mobile network. Att is so much better in chicago area than tmo

Thanks for the info. Ill be saving 60 dollars a year beginning next month. The reason i asked if youve activated, im wondering does straight talk use a att.net based apn or if they use an aiowireless.net apn like cricket does. No big deal either way i guess. I can testify the aio apn works just fine but i just imagine an apn with "att" in the address to be faster lol.. This is based on nothing

No. I have not begun my service yet. I just ordered a StraightTalk-AT&T Micro-SIM Card Kit off of eBay. It's coming form North Carolina. I live in South Carolina so I'm hoping to have it by Saturday. I'm switching when I get it. I've already used up my 2 GB of High-Speed Data from AT&T GoPhone. 2 GB is no where near enough data for me. I can't wait to switch!
