The title says it all here. I am ready to take the dive and root my tmobile htc wildfire s w/s-on. I have seen few methods floating around the web but it seems like rooting for the s-on devices was developed recently if I am not mistaken. Anyway I would truly appreciate some input on rooting my phone. What is the easiest method available for s-on devices to root my wildfire s with? Thank you for any helpful input concerning this matter.

Ok, ok, ok.. So many of you are instantly going to jump on the new guy because this thread has probably been posted at least a million times today. Thing is, trying to find an explanation, an easy explanation, of how to root my HTC Hero G3, without using developers lingo is nigh on impossible. Would someone have mercy and please, for the sake of the Gods and my sanity.. HELP ME ROOT ME BLOODY PHONE??? Please
What do I need to download?
Can I still use the android operatin system after gaining root access or do I have to install a custom ROM?
Many many thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

Firstly its called the HTC Hero, the G2 is the T-Mobile branding not G3, why don't you go in the Hero section then the rom development sub forum, guides at the top in the wiki in plain english...
Advice appreciated man, I kinda thought I'd get someone telling me that. Thing is, I tried all three of the rooting guides up there and none of them work. Checked the USB Debugging box.. then windows searches for ADB, then my problems begin.
Hello everybody
i have installed the offical RUU... but i am not happy with it, no new functions which can be helpful.
Throw the update, everything is stock - apps, settings, NO root.
Has anyone a method to get S-OFF back?
please keep me informed.
Thanks 4 you replies!
Your best bet is Revolutionary.
Those guys of Alpharev & Unrevoked have teamed up and are working on a tool to root your phone.
Unfortunately the new HBOOT of our Desire, isn't supported yet.
Check this page every once in a while: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Hope this helps

Hi All,
I am a noob or atleast newly registered to XDA but have resolved many issues over the years with your help so thank you very much for all your past help.
I have recently rooted my old htc desire without a blip, then dropped it and no amount of XDA help will resolve that issue, more rubbled than bricked...
I have an HTC Desire HD tied to orange that I want to root and flash Jellybean ROM (open to suggestion of a better ROM). Every step by step or guide I have found in a few hours of searching tells me to use AAHK but all links on all sites to the download result in a 'page no longer available' or redirect but not to a download page
I am nowhere close to truly understanding the technical side of rooting, I have a lot of respect for those that do, but I can follow directions. Without the actual software the directions don't lead anywhere so I'm at a frustrating stand still. Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
I see people usually list some system info so here is mine
HTC Desire HD
Android 2.3.5
Sense 3.0
Kernel 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected] #1
build number 3.12.405.1 CL199157 release-keys
If anymore info is required I will get it on here asap and thanks for any help you give me, cheers

Post #7 of the Ace Think Tank thread linked in my signature. It has instructions for rooting, including a link to AAHK.

Lol.... I needed that. Been in a bad mood for nearly a week. I managed to refrain from replying a few posts today.

sorry for the newbie question but ive little to no idea when it comes to this sort of thing.
my contract is up on my HD which is on Orange network & im now wanting to put it onto Tesco & after trying the sim inside the phone it will no longer take either sim & is saying ""SIM network locked please contact customer care"" so do i need to root the phone for this to work & will it also debrand it as i no longer want the orange crap on it anymore.
thanks. for any advice :good:
I know AAHK does SIM unlock as part of the process. Then you can flash an unbranded ROM.
thank you for the quick reply..
so if i do the AAHK i should get it to accept the Tesco card at least.? that's the main thing i'd like to unbrand it but its not really an issue as long as i can get it to work on tescos network..
i paid for it unlocking today & sent off my IMEI number but they emailed me saying it can not be unlocked..?
thanks.
Even if a phone is SIM unlocked, I believe the carrier can still lock the SIM card. So whether you can use the Tesco card is up to them.
Hey guys, I'm here as a guest in your forums.
Maybe you've seen me in the Galaxy S5 forums or more recently in the OnePlus One forums, maybe not. Either way hello. So I know enough to get by as far as ADB, sideloading, rooting, loading ROMs, firmware, etc. Anyways, I don't know much about the ZF2 but his is in a bootloop and I need the fastest, easiest way to get it from bootloop with no bootloader on it whatsoever, to stock. So who's got the goods? I've recently downloaded the toolkit from the General forum, but it requires me to have a bootloader to access any functionality. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Never mind, I found some advice on the dev forum. Take it easy guys!

Not sure where you meant to post this but the highest HTC software version the vzw has is 3.X.X. There's still no software exploit for the m9 either so even if you somehow could downgrade there's nothing to downgrade for.
Thinking you are an m8 guy?

Nope not the m8 guy. i just bought my first htc phone since my last one about 12-15 years ago. i honestly did not know what to ask. that is why i am asking here. i have been a Samsung Galaxy person so long. HTC is all new to me again. I was hoping that if i could downgrade then i would be able to root my phone so there would be less headaches. I almost feel like a total noobie here.

OK. So no software exploit. There's a Java card thread in the general section where you can locate users who might be close enough to meet up or that you can ship your phone to in order to get s-off.
