I've been using CHompSMS for 2 years and it just seems slow to load now. There's a noticeable lag when opening the app up. The default JB Messaging App is fast but it doens't show the time stamp on older messages, only the date.
In CM10 you can enable full time stamps in SMS setting.
I couldn't tell you if your stock.
i'm using AOKP JB nightly builds. I'd like to try CM10 but i've been messing with too many ROMs it got tiring. I"ll look into that though.
Does CM10 allow you to hide contact pictures in the conversation list but enable them in the actual conversation?
I don't think so on the picture deal.
I'm guessing you can enable the time stamps on AOKP. Check the settings from within the messaging app.

First off, not sure if this should go in the General section...?
This is something that has bugged me from day one with the phone. Why does scrolling with the 'All Programs' menu, and SMS messages seem clunky? It just seems like it's running at a lower frame per second compared to the rest of the phone. Even touch sensitiviy is lagged too. Is this a FPS issue or is scrolling through the menus or SMS messages really taxing the CPU to where it causes it to chug?
Since its loading a lot of data, it chugs, assuming you are using the stock messaging app. Handcent and chompsms alleviate that problem.

But even if I load a message that has less then 10 messages it still hesitates.

I've played with 3 Incredibles, including mine, and they all have this problem. I'm about 99% sure it is just poor coding on HTC's part, since there are other parts of the phone with similar scrolling animations that don't lag.
That's odd. I've had mine since 4 days before launch and i can only think of one time when it has lagged. That was while downloading a ROM from rom manager listening to music, and using veiwing flash content from one of the froyo roms i do notice what u r talking about but only n the htc music and messaging apps. When using the stock android messaging and music apps from skyraider 1.8 they seem to have 0 lag. Like the guy above said probably poor coding on htc's part. I wouldn't call that lag. Just clunky scrolling. If u want to experience lag put a live wallpaper on droid 1. That is lag

So then I'm assuming the messaging program that comes with our phone isn't the stock Android one?
I was just wondering what Messaging app do you guys use? I did a fresh install of Skyraider 3.5 and am now using the stock HTC app. I like how simple it is, but I don't like the profile pictures. Since I don't link my contacts, all the pictures are just stock gray and that kind of gets annoying. I've been a longtime Handcent user though.

I was a handcent user from the get go; however, with my phone it was laggy and would not pop up right away when i open it and saw delays, etc. In a nutshell it was sluggish.
That's when I tried chompsms. The 2 are as we all know, very similar. However, I have come to like chomp as it is faster on my phone and loads my convo's which are extremely lengthy very quickly and there is no delay.
I like both, however chomp works much better on my phone.
Handcent with Swiftkey. Haven't used anything other than Handcent and the stock messaging app, and I have no interest in switching to anything else.
I used to use handcent, now I pretty much just stick with the stock. No real reason, does what I need it to do, send SMS/MMS.
I use GO Sms. I like it more than Handcent. The problem is that it needs to work with the stock messaging app(which kinda sucks.)

I use handcent because it splits threads for me so I can send my 1000 character texts without a problem and anyone ccan get them.

I use stock with sms popup for the same reason I don't use Sense roms- I don't need 2 facebook apps, 2 twitter apps, 2 sms apps, etc.
I have always liked handcent.
Chomp here. Love it. No reason to change.

I use Handcent also, it has a lot of great features... But, lately I have noticed that it hasn't been playing my MMS videos or the sounds attached them (qcp) ? I am using cm7 mod build #17 with the stock kernal, all data has been wiped all cache wiped then flashed... any thoughts ?
Handcent, works perfect on stock rom / rooted.
Super fast and love the black background and the fact that it will give super long texts when it splits up into multiples on others stock app.
I do believe that's a rom issue.

Handcent just because it's so easily customizable.
I had always felt like my Handcent pop up messages were delayed. Phone would ring, screen turn on then a second or 2 later the popup would appear.
Since installing CM7 though, it has been instant, no delay between ring and message popup. Not sure if this was fixed in Handcent or not, but either way, CM7 is amazing
used handcent for awhile but now I just use the stock miui app
Stock with SMS Popup. Handcent makes me feel like im using an iPhone. If I wanted to use an iPhone I would of bought one.

Amen! It's amazing (dare is say...Incredible?) how long my battery lasts now that I am not using 2 apps that do the same general function as 1 app. Just plain stupid.
Stock HTC Messaging for me. On AOSP roms, I use Handcent. I haven't tried Chomp or GO SMS or any of the others.
I switch between the stock htc one and Go SMS
I just installed King's Ultra FroYo Unleashed and I love it.
I still have not had this phone long, just a week. Coming from an LG Lotus it's quite a change. Haven't learned everything yet.
Anyway, was wondering about a few things I can't figure out:
1 - I'm sure like many of you, you are using Handcent SMS. I can't figure out a way to disable the SMS notifications so that I don't get two notifications for every SMS.
2 - I'm not sure if it's a bug with the current build or if it's just messed up on my phone. The loading or sync (not sure which) circular arrows that appear in the notification bar have an issue with the graphics. It switches between two different types of graphics so it looks kind of gnarly. Is there some way I can replace the graphic file to fix this?
3 - Can't figure out a way to make my own pictures display on my contacts instead of their Facebook pics. Many of my contacts are synced to Facebook, which I like, but I want to be able to set my own pictures for them if I want. When I edit the contact and select the picture, it will still only show their Facebook pic. I'd rather not turn the syncing off, I like it. Is there something I'm missing?
Overall, I'm really starting to like my new EVO because of this rom. I tried MIUI based on other recommendations, but I just didn't like it. Was too buggy also. This rom is great. Very fast, much more battery efficient, especially for me using netarchy kernel, than it was on MIUI. I think I'll be sticking with this rom.
Thanks for all help answering my questions.
You'd be better off posting this in his forum

Unfortunately I don't have user permissions yet.
Ok #1. click on stock messages app. When loaded hit menu then settings. Uncheck any boxes that have notifications.
#2. Yes that's a problem on his rom.
#3.while in contacts app go to whomever and click on them once it will open that persons info at top left is a camera click that choose gallery and get your pic.

Hi Im a haver sms user and I love gosms. Cause here its possible to get an pop up for the incoming sms and directly answer it.
How is the stock sms app integrated in ICS? Is it possible to get an popup and answer the sms as fast as in gosms? I would appreciate If somebody could explain me the sms feature of his nexus galaxy. Cause I couldnt find any information on the web. maybe Im the last guy who texts. Thx
i am afraid the stock SMS app has not changed much from gingerbread. generally just some UI updates.
MIUI's SMS app is wonderful. It has the popups you are talking about. From what I've seen, it is not too different from past Android builds.
Looks like GoSMS is your answer. I've also seen WM7 Notification Add-On, that provides the popups, available for download in the market. I tested it and it worked but I didn't like it.
I'm sure we'll have a MIUI build eventually also (whoo whoo!)
Hm quietly disappointing. I want to have everything in a consistent look. Are you talking about an sms app from miu or a completerom?

Sms popup works flawlessly. Used it for years and is perfect. Uses the standard android layout so fits in with ICS easily. Try it out, I'm 100% sure you'll love it.
Everyone I've told it to can't live without it now

I also used sms pop up. Skipped it as I switched to gosms. But the fact that gosms (more functional) is based on the android gui makes it once again interesting.

Has anyone had any success with themes with gosms? The colors just go insane when i try any theme and i've tried manually adjusting every setting with little luck. The whole app just looks like crap.
Have been getting this since updating to Jelly Bean. Haven't had this problem before. I am trying to have a conversation with the old lady. Anyone have a work around?
Before switching to verizon I had T-Mobile and always had that with me my G1 .. since this is actually a gsm ROM maybe that's where it come from

Can I ask, do you mean that if you try and send 1 text it sends 3 or so, or am I misunderstanding?
BANE
No, he means that if you send a text message, get a response and send a new text message, and sends another one you will get that warning message. It is meant as a security feature if an malacious app is trying to send multiple SMS's you will find out.
Saw a similar thread some days ago, but I don't know if they found a workaround for it or not.
Dude I am getting this to and it annoys the hell out of me I have i9250 with tmo and with ICS it didn't do this and I increased the number of texts for it to save and still does this.... I get this message after every text I was in cm went back to stock for jb and now dealing with this and there is just something about being stock I like better but I cannot deal with this
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well, it's nothing to do with the amount of messages to store. It's how many messages you send per minute (or something) that causes that message to appear.
Are you using 3rd party messaging app?
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
Nope stock messaging

Any more info on this? Only happens when you heavy text in. Short period of time. But annoying none the less

i'm having the same issue on my gnex with 4.1 jb ...any work around it ?
Just started to get this today. Super annoying!
BUMP!
How can we disable this message for this app?
Bump.
Have the same "issue" (even if it is not one). When I send two or three messages to one person in a reduced amount of time, the warning message pops.
Not something truly important but it starts to bother me..is it a control integrated in Android itself or just the messaging apk ?

Dammit you beat me to it, this fix does work if you are using most AOSP based roms, for some reason it does not work on Stock JB but so far has worked on any other custom rom ive tried. simply install open up app and accept what its telling you and you are good to go.
Wow, so good, seems to be working on ParanoidAndroid 1.9.92 with the APK. Thanks !
There are ways to remove that notification
There are some custom ROMs that have removed that notification. If you still see it, there are apps on Google Play (like SMS Limit Unlock or SMS limit tool) that can remove that limit completely. Tried both and only the first one worked on my Android 4.2.2 device, so you're welcome to give them both a try.
(And you will need root, of course...)
Set SMS message limit
Try to look under Settings --> Security --> App Security -> SMS message limit
I have it there and have set it successfully to 200.
of course - it is in settings

Great, those settings under personal/security are so well hidden I had somehow managed to set that to "none".
