Its my first android phone but I did use my friend's android phones before and when I connected them to PC I could choose the option to o use it as USB drive and I could connect it to any PC without any problems/drivers and connect it to my ps3, but with GS3 I need drivers for PC and I can't connect to my ps3 at all, so my question is: is there a way to enable USB drive like on other android phones or is there any other way to connect my SG3 to my ps3?
You can try this. I haven't used it yet but its supposed to do what you want I think.

If it works there is a donate version in play store to consider.

Oh ok. Sorry bout that. I did a quick search and it looks like some folks were working on ways to mount internal via ums.
Ill check a little better later when ihave a little more time.
In the meantime, good luck!

Have you seen this? May be able to lead you to a fix for yours...sorry I can't dive into it more right now. Will try to look at it more later, but thought it may help you in the meantime.

Maybe in theory you could use 2nd way to make internal SD as external and then use 1st way to make that external SD as USB drive but its not 100% safe and you have to do it each time you want to transfer something... I found an app to use my phone as media server so I can connect to ps3 via Wi-Fi but only to transfer files from phone to ps3 not the other way around... I just don't get it why would they make something that was simple and easy to be more complicated now, I wouldn't be surprised if they release something like iTunes and make it the only way to connect and transfer files...
I don't think that will ever happen with android. But I have seen that even on the tabs like the 10.1 it can be a pain in the butt to use as simple as other androids. But you can always connect via SSH. I know this doesn't help op but just an idea for computer file transfer.

Thats kind of where i was going with it too. Just got busy and thought it might be something that could lead to a solution. I do think this is something that will be solved eventually. Hopefully soon!
I was looking at the thread for that app I linked to earlier and I think the dev is working on it. You my want to ask there to see if its still being worked on.

I doubt that will happen too, and even if it did I guarantee lots of the devs here would be all over it!

Is it possible to format an sd card to where your computer/xbox read it is a portable device? I think I did it before or at least thought I did. However I don't have a computer atm and curious if I can format the card to fat32
Thanks

Nope.... I tried every way possible( My ways) and my 360 can never read it.

Word. Its weird though. If I remember correctly I had connected my old sd(in phone of course) . Formatted it to fat32 and my computer reccognized the phone as a flash drive. No commands to mount or anything.
My xbox is modded and if I run the update I lose my mod. As soon as 2.0 is out I won't need this.
The reason I need to try is I have to reinstall proper permission for codec. Its already there, this xbox has not been banned but they corrupt the harddrive and make you reinstall it. All I need to do it get that file off and then reinstall it. Trips me out you can't do that without a net to live.
Sorry for the rant but I know there are some gamers out there.
If anyone wants to add me on live weather to talk **** to me or have a good time my gamertag is the same as screen na?e here

First off: UMS/MSC is USB Mass Storage/Mass Storage Class
This is something I've been working on. We don't have UMS. And, I want UMS. Google/Samsung's reasoning was they didn't want to make us choose between internal storage for apps, and external storage for music.
The one flaw that comes with this is that we lose UMS. UMS requires a block device that can be unmounted from the phone and mounted to the host machine (Windows/Linux/Mac).
We can get this back relatively easy I believe without re partitioning our phones. I don't want to play with partition tables, because there isn't an easy way that I know of to restore it to stock.
To get technical: /sdcard on the Nexus is just a symlink to /data/media. We can break that symlink, modify the fstab and init.rc to mount an image file to /sdcard, then modify vold to allow us to mount that image file to windows. The downside: we'd lose what google/samsung thought was an amazing idea: not making us choose between sdcard storage and internal app storage.
I guess why I'm posting this: is anyone interested enough for me to actually do this?
What exactly is the benefit? Could you explain?

Sounds like a ext but to the sdcard instead of the data partition..

sounds interesting! the convenience of having UMS is definitely missed. as long as everything functioned "normally" I'd do it.
Yes please! Especially if u can do it so that it'll also work in clockwork, might be easier. It would make everyone's life easier, and I bet a lot of devs would end up baking it in to their roms!

If I am reading this correctly this would essentially make that folder act like it would under an external SD card meaning once I mounted it to windows I would lose all access until unmounting it from windows?
More options are always good, but honestly I've gotten used to MTP and not having to mount and remount as well as not having to worry about swapping between internal storage and sdcard. I say do it just so we have options as users, but I'm not really sure I'd use it over the current methods.

You got it. You could even use the folder as /sdcard and programs wouldn't know the difference.

This would be very very nice for Linux users as mtp can be a pain to transfer files with. And adb isn't exactly the fastest for large files.

You should work for Google. I think that's how they should've shipped the phone.
Great idea. That would make device recognition much easier in Linux. It's a real pain trying to get it to pick up GN on Debian. If you get it working maybe I can have your permission to use it in my git for my rom compilation?

Setup a dropbox account. Install it on the pc and the app on the phone. The pc will always stay synched and you can get to your files from anywhere.
There are many options to do what I think it is you want. You could set up an SSH server on your system, create a rule through your router/firewall and if you don't have a static IP use something like OpenDNS; then use a VPN client to connect (VPNRoot in Play Store works).
You could also use DropBox, Box.net, SkyDrive, Google Drive or any other 'cloud' sync service for specific files too.
Or more simply you can use something like LogMeIn or TeamViewer. Both are dead simple and if you really do need access to your system while your away (or do remote tech support) these are well worth the price(s).
Are you looking for something like Samba for android?
Not sure if you are looking for something that will allow you to do this when you aren't near your PC, or if you are looking at something so you don' have to hook up your phone to your computer.

Hi, maybe i'm not the first to ask this question, but i have several problems to manage my note 2 with my Mac. I use Airdroid for small files transfer, but if i want to transfer a rom, or any big file, it's just too slow. I tried to use Android File Transfer but it seems to not recognize anything. Is there anybody that can help me?
Thanks and sorry for some mistakes, i'm italian.
Is usb debugging on or off in developer options?
Android file transfer has been working well on my mac.

I was able to prior to rooting my phone. I'm only using my Mac as a bridge so that I can move large files onto my 1terabyte Seagate external hard drive which is connected to my Mac...
