factory reset on a rolted device. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all,
suppose that some apps has damaged my phone and I want to do a factory reset on a stock but promoted ROM.
May I damage the phone by factory reset a rooted stock ROM?
If yes how can I reset the phone?

You should reboot into recovery and select the "full wipe/factory reset" option.

Yes, tottaly... but, if I were you, i would:
Wipe data, cache and dalvik, then install a diferent rom..
You have to do some really big crap to brick your phone there... like flashing windows mobile on it hahaha

Tnx Kababayan, but last question , Is the question number 2 is OPTIONAL?

can you reset but keep data intact?

I guess what I'm asking is, with CM10 and Clockwork, is there a way to not do a dirty flash and still keep your apps and data installed or do you either have to dirty flash or wipe everything?

its either one or the other. a reset wouldnt be a reset if you didnt clear data. thats the whole point of a factory reset.

agree with that... was just wondering if there is an in between - somewhere shy of a wipe all that is better than a dirty flash but still keeps apps and app data intact?

[Q] About to sell my Unlocked S3, what's best RESET approach?

Hey guys, I just got a Note 3 and I am looking to sell my Galaxy S3. I hadn't used it much but regardless it's obvious I have to do a factory reset so it wipes all my data and also gives the guy I sell it to a fresh phone.
But I've heard resetting an S3 is not as straightforward as it should be. Now the phone is unlocked (does reset remove the unlock?). So there are two resets? Hard reset and soft ware reset? Which one do y'all recommend and how do you do it? Which reset mode will let the new user use it as if it's a new phone?
You can do a wipe from the OS and also a wipe from stock recovery.
The phone will remain unlocked.

Is the OS wipe where you go to settings and select backup and factory reset? Doesn't the OS wipe leave your saved stuff/collected info on the phone?

It shouldn't. In case it does, that's why I also suggested wiping it from recovery.
To really be safe, you could flash a stock ROM via Odin, depending on the OS that's currently installed.

I guess recovery is the Hard reset this guy is talking about here?:

If so are those directions:
Settings > Personal > Back Up and Reset > Factory Data Reset > Reset Device > Delete All.
Correct? I don't wanna flash anything. I bought the phone a week ago, still on stock 4.1.1 lol just a vanilla AT&T unlocked phone

What's better a Odin flash of the stock file or factory reset

I'm thinking of a factory reset but I'm curious to know if a stock flash is better to wipe out and clean up any possible faulty files , then re-do the phone
Thanks

I do both, factory data reset from the settings menu and then boot to download mode and Odin.
