my GS3 was working flawlessly for more than a month, and i use it as GPS everyday, to and from work. I use waze.
anyway i dont know what went wrong, today when i was driving, it started disconnecting every couple of minutes, in waze, in google maps...
i have GPS monitor app installed which shows in notification bar how satellites its connected to, so i could see it going to zero and back to 13-15 which is usually the case...
i have not installed any new app which should affect GPS, the only thing i installed and then uninstalled was "Apartment guide" app.
is anybody else having this issue? what can i do apart from reflash OS? by the way i am on wanamlite ROM.
thank you.
Never had this problem before. I would use faster gps app to resolve your problem. It sounds like the app is crashing because of incompatibility

kitkit201, thanks for your reply, but i am having this issue even with google maps, i dont think its incompatibility...and the app itself is not crashing, but only GPS disconnects...and then reconnects...

If you do a search, there are many threads attempting to fix the GPS lock issue. Samsung seems to always have problems with the GPS on their phones.
What works for me the best is first getting a lock by running the "GPS Status" app, then running Google Maps or whatever program.

+1 on this.
I drove to my cousin's house last night and the GPS was giving me fits. Once I got there, I searched up a fix and came across the "GPS Status" program. I installed it, ran it, and then google navigation worked perfectly afterwards.
I haven't seen any new updates on this in a while so am I the only one still having problems with the GPS not working?

Mine is acting up as well... Google maps seems to be working, but I tried using the speedtest.net app, and it failed to acquire location... hmmm....

The GPS issue has been "fixed". Most people's A-GPS got updated and they're getting locks again.

I have, speedtest.net isn't working.... but maps seems to lock on.... not quite sure what's going on.... maybe it's the speedtest app??? idk...
edit: just tried speedtest.net on my i..... err.... "other" phone.... and speedtest.net isn't finding a location server either.... so it's not my nexus.... maybe the GPS is working after all...
The "fix" does nothing for me and I've tried GPS test GPS status and faster fix. Have reset the a GPS setting and still nothing. The GPS icon doesn't flash or fill in it just stays empty until after about 30 seconds then tells me unable to get a location

Google fixed A-GPS data that they were serving phones. People are now reporting that they're able to get locks again. Mine's been a bit shaky still, but I do lock eventually.
Try another rom. I was using cm10 alpha and was starting to blame my gnex. But then I tried jelly bean stock, liquid ics, and some other rom. And GPS started to work like a champ. Instant GPS lock. And while I was on edge too! Try another rom.

i cant get NAVIGATION app to lock at all -- on the OTA deodexed JB rom from the forums -- did full data wipe re-install still cant get a lock
Try liquid ics. I'm using he GSM nexus with T-mobile. This would help determine if its a software issue or hardware. Yesterday I put liquid ics and stock jb.to the test by driving around my city and they both locked on and responded very fast.

What are the GPS issues everyone has had? I'm on GSM and has always had a great GPS performance for as long as I can remember...

Last week, some bad A-GPS data got pushed out to Nexus devices, and people were unable to get a GPS lock for several days.
I had no issues when everyone was reporting GPS issues but today my GNex took at least 3-4 minutes to lock onto GPS. I'm not confident it isn't ROM issue, I'd have to run some other tests to isolate it, but there is definitely something weird going on with GNex's GPS.
Is anyone else seeing this? It tops my list of wakelocks and I don't use latitude .

Shut off GPS when your not using it, which is most of the time for me. Most apps ,like weather, can use the network for location based services. Unless your navigation, there's almost no need for GPS.

Will turning off GPS prevent the "NetworkLocationLocator" wakelock?
I would always find that maps had started it self and used battery.
Now I have used Rom Toolbox to stop it from auto starting and it is behaving it self.
Not to hijack the thread, but whenever someone attaches a thumbnail to a thread, all I see is "Attached Thumbnails" and there is image. Anyone know why?
Update
I use PhoneWeaver (totally underrated app!) and for poops and giggles, I added the GPS toggle in all of the profiles except car mode. Before I have always just left the GPS on and figured if nothing needed it, it wouldn't be used.
Now that the GPS is disabled, the maps process never pops in and battery life is once again back to normal.

I just recently got the S III and updated to 4.1.1. Some strange reason whenever I open up maps app 85% of the time my GPS activates, but some of the time it will not come on. So I restart my phone and open up the maps and my GPS works right away. Has anyone seen this? Seems software related since it works most of the time without needing the reboot. Thanks for any help.

Like 30% of my battery for the third day in a row is Maps, yet I haven't opened maps once. I restart everyday and it happens again. I assume it has to be the gps, but i dont know of any app that is using it, either.
Touchdown uses about the same amount of battery, so I'm wondering if it has some gps feature running I don't know about? How do I figure out what the problem is?

try this, go to your app manager, locate your map(gps) etc.. and wipe cache.
If you turn off your location access i think it might help.
Using anything like Google now ?
