My E4GT flashed to Boost stopped working on 3G. I am able to call and receive voice calls without any problems, and the 3G icon is still present (which means the donor's passwords are correct !!). I flashed my phone to Boost in January and it worked perfectly until today (8/17/17), around 2 PM. I updated the PRL and Profile, but nothing changed. I rebooted several times and still nothing.
The funny thing is the 3G stopped working on my father's E4GT at approximately the same time today (also flashed to Boost).
Things the phones have in common:
- the Boost flash was done by me, from Sanyo Incognito phones. Both phones are on Boost Shrinkage plan, now at $45 per month (my father's phone was flashed a couple of weeks after mine, so it can't be some road-block from Boost for the Shrinkage subscribers).
- both phones have the 3G icon displayed, but only the green arrow lights up (the uploading indicator) ... the orange arrow does not light up, so the phones never receive any download data.
Things the phones do NOT have in common:
- my father's E4GT was updated to ICS a couple of weeks ago, using the Over The Air update (3G worked perfectly in ICS, no problems there). My phone is still running Gingerbread EL29.
To add more mystery to the issue ... Back in February, I also flashed my sister's E4GT to Virgin Mobile (Virgin uses the Sprint Network, just like Boost) and her phone works perfectly. The only difference between my sister's flashing procedure and my father's and my phone is that, my sister's phone has the original CAVE AKEY from the donor phone which was Virgin's LG Optimus V ( Sanyo Incognito doesn't want to let you read the AKEY ). So why is it that E4GT works on Virgin Mobile but doesn't work on Boost Mobile, while both networks use Sprint ?
The way I see it:
A) either Boost Mobile stopped the 3G on ALL the Sanyo Incognito phones, so the E4GT phones using the Incognito as donor stopped working ...
B) Or Sprint updated their towers to require the CAVE AKEY in order for 3G to work (unlikely because the Error 16 that comes up the first time after flashing, when making a call, is because the AKEY does not match Sprint's records, so the operator updates it in order for voice calls to work ... in other words, the AKEY is only used for voice, not for 3G)
C) ..... I'm open to suggestions ....
Does anyone else on Boost have similar problems ?
Boost could just be having data issues right now. It happens.

I fixed the problem. Here's what I did, just in case someone else's phone experiences the same symptoms.
-from the dialer, type ##3282# ...
-click EDIT and type your MSL code
-select EVDO from the menu
-I waited about 3 seconds while the signal bars and the 3G icons disappeared ... then I waited another couple of seconds for the icons to re-appear
-then I pressed the back button until I was back in the Home screen
NOTE: I didn't change any settings during this procedure, the 3G restored itself just by entering and exiting this menu
It looks like the radio resets during this procedure and everything restores back to normal. It's interesting that updating the Profile and the PRL did not help, even though the radio resets itself after performing said updates.

Precursor: I recently purchased an EVO 4G online and had it shipped up here to Canada and after some phone calls/fiddling I managed to get it onto the Telus network. I can make and receive calls and send/receive sms with no difficulties. Data seems to be working (I get the 3g icon with up and down arrows and can surf the net), and mms seem to be sending.
Which brings me to the issues at hand:
1) My 3G speeds are super weak (between 100kbit and 140kbit down and 100-600kbit up). If I stand in the same place and use my Touch Pro 2 (they both show the same number of bars) I get 800-900kbit/sec.
2) My EVO 4g -ALWAYS- says "Digital Roaming". I've updated the PRL with the latest Telus one (off the internet) as well as the one off my Touch Pro 2 but see no difference. I don't incur any roaming charges, but the phone always thinks it's roaming.
3) Last but not least, I'll often get a pop-up that says Data Call Failure Error Code 67. Sometimes I'll go for hours without seeing it, and sometimes it'll pop up every 5 minutes.
Any input/insight is welcome!

P.S. If you want tips on how to get your EVO onto Telus, drop me a PM.
I will love to have feedback, as I get the "data fail" error often while roaming...
Update: It seems that when I force my phone to use only EVDO, the Data Call Failure Error Code 67 goes away. Perhaps related?
Just following up on my own thread: It seems the Error 67 is because my 1x data login details are incorrect (a side effect of the sprint radio).
Still wondering on the other questions, anyone?
Xan, how did you get HTC Evo to work on Telus? I'm almost at the point of returning this one that I got from Texas. I have tried for 24hours to no avail.
Please help!!

I just had the same issue. Luckily I downloaded an app off the market called 2g 3g switchand it resolve several issues I had including yours. There are three options one of them is the cdma NAM switch in which you could select NAM 1, another option is to leave in automatic, and third if you have any 2g and 3g switching issues you can select hybrid. Note after switching wait probably 5 minutes and sometimes try again, also you may have to reset.
my phone has been rooted for 1 year now and so far have had no problems what so ever, but just recently i flashed synergy rom and all hell broke loose. my phones 4g works fine and so does wifi but my 3G would not start, it would turn on for about 1 second then go straight to 1x.
things i have tried......
update my profile and prl...nothing
##data##, menu, restore....nothing
pulled the battery like about 155752 times....nothing
nandroid restore to a time where it was working...thing
flashed like 6 different roms and still nothing works.
flashed new radios and still a no go..
i tried to do the whole metro pcs flash but then changed my mind not to go to metro as its network is crapy. i went to qpst and cdma and reverted everything back to how it was, so i dont see why it would mess up my 3G
i have no idea what else to do, any help will be greatly appreciated.
If it is 1x, that shows the true data strength. You may have excellent connection, but poor data in that area, or the server is just temporarily overloaded. It'll correct itself. Previously, sense roms would always show 3G even if it was a 1x connection, but most developers put in that fix to show the true strength, like in aosp.
Thanks for the reply. the thing is that my wife has an evo as well and shes right next to me and gets perfect 3g data connections, and i was getting error 67 upon trying to update prl and profile. as soon as i did the reset on the ##data## it went away, and now it wont even connect to 1x at all...man its so frustrating, ive searched and search but nothing.
same thing has happened to me, tried chatting 3 times, and called tech support once, so far no data.
try this...i did not work for me at all but it might work for you...good luck buddy you'll need it lol...this crap is frustrating as hell.

ive had similar problems... just flashed a rom,, 3g working but hotspot isnt.... i need help too
Sense ROM's show 3G to identify a data connection, while the bars are actually displaying the voice connection. I believe aosp ROM's strickly display the data speed since voice reception is generally good. This may just be a placebo affect and you think you have poor 3G. I would suggest running a speed test on both ROM's (your current one and the one you found "good" data speeds on) to ensure that it's not the ROM itself.

I've got the same exact issue, but I've been on Synergy for a while now. As of last night though, no 3g... My France's unrooted EVO works just fine, and I've been in a few different areas, so I know it's not the tower. I've done the same things the OP has done and still nothing... Is it possible for the Rom to fry out the 3g??

Ok ive got mines working. However its still a little sketchy but atleast 3g doesnt go away. After going tjrough the steps in my last post, I did ##786# and resetted everything. Then reflashed my rom and walah!
This worked for me.
Step 1: Open dial pad , ##3282# enter
Step 2: Select "Edit Mode", then input your MSL number
Step 3: Select "Data Profile", then press menu button
Step 4: Select "Restore", then press ok. Should reboot on it's own. If not reboot.
You said you did something similar but figured it wouldn't hurt.
I did that, but didnt work for me. However every phone is different and every little bit helps.

can some one tell me if this can fix my slow internet.
I get the 3g icon but my internet is slow and has been
since i put it on boost.I have tried everthing i know but
can not seem to fix it. and if i do this will it mess up my srink\plan
this is what i found in one of the thread and want to try this.
he HA/AAA's appear to be generated based on the ESN/MEID and MDN combination. When running across this issue, here are the steps I take to resolve it:
1. Turn off both the donor and flashed phones.
2. Go online to your Boost account and go through the Update handset process using a third Boost Mobile MEID (I have one you can use for the switch...PM me
3. After a few minutes, go back in and do another Update handset, this time using the MEID that came off the donor. Be sure to leave your donor phone off!!!
That's it! This has always worked for me. Sometimes it takes awhile for the phone to provision. You may get an error message that says that the number isn't in service...just hang in there!!
Welcome to sprint's wonderful dial-up 3g speeds. Nothing you can do except switch to Verizon and get REAL 3g speeds.
Heres the run down
..I had my phone remotely flashed to boost
Being that im currently in a area with not the best coverage
I was testing every tweak to enhance my 100-185 kbps
so i came across a provision reset tweak
That screwed things up erasing some stuff
To the point where the phone had to be activated
Luckily going to the sprint zone app and activating restored everything
Or so i thought.. Now network has problem staying connected, 3G sign appears and leaves randomly, and when it is connected the d/l indicator sometimes doesnt appear. Speeds are as low as 8 kbps
Speeds before was no lower than 116 with 1 bar
I also get error 67 when trying to update prl
Any help would be appreciated
if your phone was remotely flashed and you don't have the passwords from your account, you might be out of luck.
I would suggest to contact the person that remotely flashed it for you...
Do you have the donor phone, the one that was used for transferring the service ? Because if you have it in your possession, you will be able to manually transfer the information one more time.
Sprint is blocking activations on phones flashed to Boost
After flashing hundreds of phones to Boost (Evo's, Galaxy S2/S3) I woke up at 5:00 A.M. 11/4/12 to discover that the Boost website was under maintenance.
After they were up and running I went to activate a newly flashed phone on my test account only to find that my normal activation method (through the Sprint Zone after cancelling the hands-free activation) no longer worked. The message was that I needed to take my phone to a Sprint store to activate it.
So I just figured I missed some minute detail flashing the phone or I had a bad donor phone. I flashed this Galaxy S2 again using a different donor phone and received the same results.
I then proceeded to try and re-activate several Evo's and Galaxy's that I had recently flashed and activated on the same test account a few day's earlier with the same results.
I am no newcomer to flashing. Has anyone heard of Sprint taking any counter-measures to prevent flashed phones from activating on the Boost network?
I have tried manually entering the phone number and MSID. I can get the phones to work but no internet.Keep in mind that these phones were all activated a few day's ago with no problem.
Any help would be appreciated as I have 5 or 6 Ebay customers who will be calling me today for help with their activation and I will not be able to activate their phones.
(TL;DR at the bottom)
This morning, I swapped to my old Evo 4g (rooted as well) because I was going to be doing community service all day and didn't want anything to happen to my Epic 4g.
First thing I noticed was that there was no 3g on my Evo. I shrugged this off because 4g was working, and I only needed data for a short period of time.
After switching back to my rooted Epic, I followed the instructions, and it reset after putting in a stream of numbers and symbols.
When booting, I saw a custom boot animation, but everything else looked pretty stock. None of my apps, stock TW launcher, etc.
I shut off the phone, booted into recovery, wiped, and did a nandroid restore from yesterday's backup. Then I updated profile and PRL. I was able to make calls and send text messages, but no 3g (symbol said 3g with grey arrows though).
I also tried flashing a new ROM, but that didn't give me back 3g (symbol was still there).
I haven't been able to try 4g on the Epic yet because I haven't been able to get back to the side of town where the 4g towers reach.
Finally, I called Sprint to see if they could help me out.
They ran me through updating my Profile and PRL, turning WiFi on/off, turning 3g on/off, and even manually setting some of the network configurations (using MSL's, changing MSID, etc.)
After a good hour on the phone, I still have no 3g. D:
They told me that they put in a "Network Support Ticket" and some technicians will work on this for the next 36 hours.
TL;DR: Swapped from Epic --> Evo --> Epic in a 24 hour period, and there is no 3g. Tried updating Profile/PRL, flashing a new ROM, a nandroid restore, and calling Sprint, but still no 3g (even though the symbol is still showing)
Can you guys please help me shed some light on this?
Thanks!
(In case it matters, I'm running the Stock+ ROM from the Mortify Thread)
I really am not sure but you should try calling Sprint, pulling out the battery and ask for an RTN reset. I used this off an Evo thread when I had connection issues with my Epic after going full retard and doing an EFS clear with Odin. The RTN reset on the phone didn't work for me so I think it is different and the tech told me they have resets for voice, SMS, and data but I forget which this is for. If nothing else ask them to do a voice, SMS, and data reset on your line.
Sent from My Phone with An App.
I was just about to call them, but had an idea.
I unrooted and 3g came back!
Shortly after, I re-rooted, and am happily using 3g
Thank you!
If anyone else has this problem, I used this to unroot, and this to re-root.
XDA community, you're the greatest
Glad to hear you got it working. Odin works wonders!
