It worked for me this morning. Try deleting any .nomedia files on your SDCard.
I suggest using quickpic instead

Stock gallery is useless. Quickpic is the best.

install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.droida.nomedia&hl=en
find the folder where the videos are stored, make it red (if its currently white) then make white again.
reboot.
IF after a reboot, they still aren't showing, go into settings>apps>gallery and clear data. (then reboot again)
if that doesn't work, try a normal file explorer (make sure the settings within this explorer are set to view system files) and browse to the folder. look for a file called .nomedia and delete it.
then reboot again, might need to clear data for gallery app again. (and another final reboot)
sometimes straight after the reboot nothing at all will show, it can take a little while, so get on with everything else, go back to gallery in 10 mins and it should have re populated all your albums
Thank you for your help, but dont work for me.I think it's an issue of format.video from whatsapp have .MOV ending.I renamed them into .mp4 an then videos shown.

Problem: everytime i flash an AOSP based ROM, my pictures will not show up in google gallery(they show up in quickpic) and my music will not show in any music player ive tried.
Ive searched the whole file system for .nomedia files, there isnt one on the root of the storage.

Damn dude, sorry, but I stayed away from AOSP for several reasons, and the mixed up mount points drove me crazy. I dont think I ever got it workng 100%. Didnt really try maybe, I missed TW.

Thanks! At least I got some feed back. I ended up fixing it. But it took all day. I had to Odin back to stock, re root. Then format the phones SD card and the external SD card. Now she works beautifully!

Recently loaded some wallpapers into my internal storage.
Some of them don't appear-- they show up as black boxes.
I've tried going into Apps and Clearing Cache/Clearing Data for the Gallery app.
But to no avail.
Everyone uses QuickPic, and this is one reason why.
This happened to me too, it ended up corrupting my other images and videos
Just installed QuickPic, same problem.

ES shows me thumbnails of the pictures, but doesn't allow me to open them.
This is a very interesting problem.
No problems here.
What rom are you using?
Try clearing data for Media Storage then reboot.

I'm using the latest CM10 nightly.
I cleared the data then rebooted and couldn't even get my Gallery to open.
Had to Nandroid backup to get everything running again.
I've tried Lifeless v9 and v10 using TWRP and after the phone boots up and scans the media, none of my media players find music or videos. I've tried the native lg app and the apollo app included in the rom, but no cigar. If I use file manager to find the individual file it will play just fine, but the apps themselves don't recognize the media.
I'm certainly no developer but I'f flashed quite a few custom roms over quite a few devices and never run into this. Am I missing something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Doesn't a flash erase your phone because there is no sd card?
Open the gallery excluder app. Uncheck your folders...

Thanks! I had reflashed Lifeless several times after that without installing the Gallery Excluder app, so I didn't even think about it, but that was the problem.
When I open the gallery I can't see any pics until I click on the pic, it was fine I'm not sure what happened I even just did a clean install and still the same, any ideas, cheers

Maybe the pics' thumbnails got corrupted. I think they are generated and stored somewhere, but don't know where.
Try cleaning your sd-card of useless cache and stuff.

Try to unmount/mount sd card.
If there is no result try to fix partitions from 4ext recovery.
Try any third party apps like quickpic and see if it fixes for you. I never use stock gallery because quickpic is super fast and easy to use.
