Restore 4G Partition - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I know this is a habitual question and over looked around but I'm not finding the method for me.
I rerooted my evolution and lost my RSA key but have a wimax partition saved. The kicker is its not the regular wimax.img. The file I have shows my phone id and then wimax img. So the file name is HT0AXHL06242_wimax.img. I have tried renaming it as wimax.img and flashing it but there is an error. I know it can be flashed because I had a similar issue when I first rooted my phone and I was able to flash it through recovery but there have been several updates. Any ideas?

It needs to be flashed with the same recovery it was made with, if it was made with cwm it needs to be flashed with cwm, if u used amon_RA 2.3 u need to use it, if it was a variant of amon RA u need to use the variant u used to make the backup same recovery and version number for best results, some times backups made with an older version will fail to restore using a newer version. You may also be able to extract the files and push them with adb or make a zip that can flash the img file

Trying the older CWM with no luck and the same for amon. How would I go about extracting the files? If it helps this file was created when I used the original one click auto root method. Like I said it has been used before to restore my wimax but I don't remember how.

You can move the backup to your PC, if its just a .img and not compressed just move the .img file to a location where you won't lose it and then use adb to push it to the correct partition on the device. I'm not sure of the exact location or adb command to push it there but that should be fairly easy to find via Google. I haven't had to do the adb push to fix wimax before but I've seen instructions here on xda to do it, and its been a while since I've used adb. Another option is to use a root explorer like ES explorer to copy and paste the wimax.img file to the proper location in the /system folder if you don't have access to a PC. You may need to rename the file to wimax.img and set permissions or use recovery to fix permissions. I believe it goes in a folder named something like /system/wimax or something similar if you browse around you should find an empty folder named wimax that's where it should go

I have had exactly the same problem. Sadly, flashing the wimax.img didn't work. The RSA key seems to be crucial.
By the way, I believe that the wimax.img should be flashed to the /etc/wimax folder. Not under the /system folder.

One More Thing Before I Say F*** It
Thanks all for your comments so far. I'm going to try one last effort and then just accept defeat. I flashed the wimax update that awhile back corrupted 4g for a lot of people (after seeing the file I remebered that is what did it last time). My mac address for awhile was nothing intelligible and now it is the 001608002405. I found a forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715525 that shows a way to change that mac but there are two files I apparently need but they are no longer hosted. Any ideas where I could pick them up? I'm going to PM the initial threader as well.

Renaming nandroid backups

So I tried renaming my backups on pc, since rom manager would always mess up when trying that method. Both ways I get a "m5 sum incorrect " or something like that!
Any ideas, sometimes I have so many backups its hard to tell what's what
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ROM Manager will let you name your backups. Only thing I can think of.
how do you use rom manager to rename them i renamed them all with ES File Explorer and now all my backups get that m5 sum incorrect thing
Already tried rom manager to rename, if I try and restore I get the "sum "error

I used to have this problem. What I currently do, is as follows, using Amon_RA 2.2.1 Located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
I use the recovery nandroid backup. When I do this it creates a folder under /sdcard/nandroid/...... where ...... is the folder nandroid will create upon your first backup. From there all your future backups will go into that folder, it will be something goofy, the folder for me is Ht096Hl01177 (path looks like this: /sdcard/nandroid/HT096H101177/New Backup, rename this folder, not the HT one), within that folder will be your actual backup. Create the nandroid backup, I use ROOT EXPLORER (Paid but worth it since you can do mounted deletes), to rename the newley created backup, do not change the parent folder. Then when I want to restore to that one, I make sure I do a full wipe including Dalvick Cache. Using this process I don't hardly ever get the m5sum error. Hope that helps. I currently have 4 backups under the parent directory and I can restore them fine as long as I wipe first.
The easiest and cheapest way is by opening rom manager and scroll down to where it says backup/restore and on the backup you want to rename you hold it and then it will give you options like delete etc...chose rename and rename it example MikFroyo_1-24-2011 when you space make sure you _ for spaces and you should not get an error I segest you make a backup and use that to test it you can also rename it by clicking back up restore within rom manager and press back and rename it like showed in the example hopes this helps I have tested both with no problems what so ever

I always rename mine with no issues...so far. I just leave all the numbers then start at the end like this. 2010-11-20.07.24.51 then I add -MYN-01-HB-76. Dont know if this will work for everyone. I just didnt want to mess with the file name too much
Evo - Myn 2.2 RLS 3 - Clockwork - HBoot .76
The key thing to know about renaming nandroids is that you have to be sure to leave no spaces in the names...
You can name it CM6.Jan25 but not CM6 Jan 25
You do not need to save the given name of it, I assure you.
....this is true whether you rename with rom manager, root explorer or estrongs ..... that is all you need to be concerned with, as long as you do that you should be fine....

[Q] Renaming nandroid backups

With trying new roms, daily now it seems, is it possible to rename nandroid backups to something that makes more sense then just a date/time stamp like the name of rom/kernel?
Usually it doesn't matter as long as there's no special characters but I've tried it before and always get an md5 sum mismatch I just write down the date and the name of the rom
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
You need to use ROM Manager for this, then it will work with or without ROM Manager in CWM 5.0.2.7.
I usually put the backups in folders with meaningful names. I have to move them back to the proper location before restoring.
Never tried rom manager to do this though.

Sometimes that will work for me also... most of the time I will get an md5 sum error when I rename them though... like biggoron said the easiest way is to write them down somewhere... or as (insert name here) said you can put them in a seperate folder with the name and then move them back before restoring them....

hmmm strange error to have happen but good to know guess id better make another back up and delete the changed one
I had the md5 mismatch too. It seems you can rename as long as you don't put any spaces. I have been renaming mine CM7N##beforeCM9blahblah and it still works. If I put spaces in, then md5 mismatch

Thanks, I renamed some of them using ROM manager and the one I tried worked.
I tried twice to do it manually, no spaces and always got the md5 error. My backups are too important so I only use ROM manager as it makes sure the MD5 is correct.

Yup, this is the main reason I use rom manager, to name my backups to keep track of them easier. The nightlies for cm7 in rom manager don't hurt either..
I was actually trying to restore a backup which had an altered name and the recovery kept prompting error.
I had to rename the prefix back to BCDEARS in order for it to restore.
I think the prefix is important because it's a code to the kind of content that was actually backed up.

Can't restore?! Please help

I rooted my phone today and did a CWM backup - I then flashed CM10 and then tried to do a restore but when I try it I get the following error "Couldn't open directory, No files found"
Yet when I browse my files I can see the back up I made in the CWM folder - why won't it restore this?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

Hmm...not sure if it's related, but the only time my CWM backup didn't restore was some MD5 mismatch error. I renamed the backup to "backup.tar" (if you're using *.tar and not /blobs) after I read that worked on a thread, and wala, it worked! Unsure if that's what your issue is, though.

I just tried what you said and it still doesn't work - I did notice that my backup is a file folder not just a file - so I don't think renaming the folder to a .tar will actually do anything to it?
Is there any other way to restore from a back up I have on my phone but that CWM doesn't seem to see??
You could try moving the file with a file manager or make sure permissions are good.

Push it with Odin? Or just grab the stock rooted file from the stickies and push that with Odin.

Hmm..it's been a while since CWM--do you have any folder called blobs? If so, then my tip to rename to "backup.tar" won't work. Basically, you're right. If you don't have a *.tar backup, then I got nothing. CWM used to be *.tar only, then defaulted to /blobs, and now is defaulting back to *.tar with the option of /blobs.

No idea what's going on with this crap. I've lost every backup now for two weeks, the worst of which was my stock backup.
i may have ended up finding a solution to the problem here, if yours is similar enough to mine.

[Q] Clockworkmod backup wont delete

Hello,
I wanted to change my kernel today, back to stock, so I tried to recover a previous backup I had from clockworkmod. But when I tried to recover it said "Md5 mismatch". So I went to Youtube to figure out why this was, I followed the instructions but there is no file path for my backups. I tried all of the different file paths "/data" that was empty, "/mnt/shell/" and that was empty as well, as well as a few other file paths. I eventually gave up looking for the backup and decided to erase the backup I made. But when I tried to delete it it said "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." I tried renaming it something else but it still says the same thing. Anyone know what I can do here, I just want this file off of my phone. Any help would be much appreciated!
Extra info. When I made the backup I decided to rename it as "5-14(Before custom kernel) but when I got the prompt to change name, I tried changing it to a valid name. Now the name is stuck?
I've also included some pictures to help understand my situation.

I renamed the folder on my PC and it worked fine. But nothing changed. I looked in ES file explorer and folder name is still "download" and wont change
May be some problem with rom manager.Try renaming using "root explorer". If you want to get your stock kernal you can flash it using kernal flasher.

rename the folder that contains all backuped files (without space). put that folder in another folder named "backup". put backup folder in another folder named "clockworkmod". put clockworkmod folder in data/media using any root explorer (enable mount option in setting). try to restore
I used the root browser included in rom toolbox and that seemed to work. Thank you for your replies! I truly appreciate it

Thank you for your reply. Luckily I didn't have to go through that process, it seemed to go away after using root browser. Thanks again!

Hi,
Yesterday i made a backup using ROM manager v5.5.3.7 (free)
For some reason i made a second backup by accident, and something went wrong.(probably lack of disk space)
I now have 2 backups, i would like to delete one. (since i'm running short on disk space)
Tried too delete it but i got the "There was an error renaming your backup. Please choose a unique and valid file name for your backup." error.
I tried everything provided in this thread without any succes. (sorry for replying on this kinda old thread)
Anyone has an idea how to help me out?
Running CM11 (nightly) with stock kernel CM.
Thx for any help!
Update:
Nevermind, went into recovery and deleted the corrupted one!

[Q] Soft bricked kind of....?

So my phone was soft brick (or still is) I did LGNPST and got into TWRP. I went to my restore but none of my back ups are there. Is their any way
for me to some how put them back in my phone? Ive been all over the internet trying to find someone with the same problem but nothing i could find.
Use the file manager that's included in TWRP to find out where your backups are (assuming they're there) and if they aren't in /sdcard then move it there. I'd check in /data/media first. Also make sure that the directory is /sdcard/TWRP where it saved to. Also make sure there aren't any subsequent subfolders otherwise it won't show up.
