[Q] Backup delete

I know how to delete old backups of clockwork, but how the hetch do you delete old backups on amon, i don't see amon on my sdcard like how clockwork is, do i have to actually go into amon and delete while in recovery or what.

Look on the root of your sd card for the nandroid folder. Open the subfolder and all your backups are there. This can also be done with any file manager program such as Astro.

yeah i just found it, was doing a search and came across that, lol, see search does work, and people don't think it does, lol.

i did learn one thing, if you actually name a backup, say "fresh 3.3" and it's the only backup you have and you have to do a nandroid, well it won't restore, for some reason they must be saved as a date or else you have to dismount the sdcard, rename the file to look like it's a date instead of a actual name, i ran into this once, was freaking out, lol.

Creating an unique update.zip

I switch roms constantly on my phone and the most annoying part of that is having to every time enter my gmail, facebook, twitter and other information that never changes... Is there anyway to make a FLASHABLE update.zip that I can just install after a rom flash? Out would even be better if I can put certain applications in there too. Like my Angry Birds, Rom Manager, and Titanium Backup. You know just the apps that no matter what rom I use I always have to reinstall. This would save me and whoever find themselves in this situation alot of time when it comes to experimenting with different Roms. Please help!

I don't know about login information but you can make an update.zip with miscellaneous apps that you don't want to re-download. It's kind of a pain (personal opinion) to make an update.zip but here are some directions:
1. Create a folder, we'll call it "update".
2. Inside "update" make two new folders called "META-INF" (without the quotes and capitalized) and "data" (also without quotes).
3. Inside "META-INF" create a folder called "com".
4. Inside "com" create a folder called "google".
5. Inside "google" create a folder called "android".
6. Close the folders you have open and re-open "update".
7. Open "data" and create a folder called "app".
8. Add the .apk files you want to flash to "data/app".
9. I've attached a few files to the post, unzip "secFiles.zip" and put "CERT.RSA", "CERT.SF", and "MANIFEST.MF" into your "update/META-INF" folder.
10. Also attached is "script.zip". Unzip this and add the "updater-script" and "update-binary" to "update/META-INF/com/google/android".
11. Now that you have the folder structuring complete you can zip it all up. When you zip it, make sure you zip "data" and "META-INF" NOT "update". You will have errors if you zip "update"!
12. If you have ClockworkMod Recovery you do not need to sign it. If not then I recommend making a nandroid backup and copying it to your computer so that your WiMax (4G) keys are backed up, then switching to ClockworkMod Recovery.
13. Make a nandroid backup anyways! Don't come calling me if you're phone messes up. I do not believe there to be anything wrong in my directions but I can't afford to fix you're phone.
14. Flash away! Hopefully it worked. I'll try to elaborate if you're confused.

Titanium Backup has a way to backup and restore the Accounts and Sync data which is what the goal is here... im thinking about finding a way to extract that and put it into a flashable zip. Im learning alot about the android structure and it might now be long until i unintentionally solve this myself

You could add Titanium Backup to your flashable zip and have it preinstalled as well as your backup wherever it belongs. (Sorry, don't use Titanium Backup)
Or another idea to try out, if you have Clockwork Recovery you can restore just the data partition. I'd be careful of doing it but if you're in the mood to experiment I think it might do what you're looking for. Note that you'll have to have a data.img nandroid backup of everything you want. If you manage to figure it out please share because I hate typing my ridiculously long passwords every time I flash a new rom.

you can make a flashable zip for titanium. from the app, press menu > more > create update.zip
this option gives you an option to create a signed zip file (you need a free app from the market called zip signer) that will install titanium as either a user or system file

It would be great to know how to create a update.zip of the titanium backups and that way, it would include +data

Quick ? since i been playing around with different roms i've also done a lot of backing up but now since im sticking to a rom how do i delete the old backups saved in recovery i mean the ones i dont want anymore?

You can delete via rom manager, manage backups and restore, select, and then delete.
Or mount your sd card on your comp, navigate to the backup folder, and delete.

Especially if you make a backup before you install the latest CM7 Nightly like I do. I just deleted about six backups last night before creating one for build 28 and then installing build 30.

Astro, root explorer or most of the file explorers can delete them. They should be in /sdcard/nandroid/(device identifier). Just delete the older dates you don't want.

The question i've always had is can you rename this files and if so, will nandroid be able to restore from whatever custom name you create? Does it look at some other identifier number or something to know which is the last back up that was created?
I think I had read a while back that you can because it's hard to loose track of which out of the many in that folder is your last back up or what is on that back up. Wasn't there an app that let you rename them and or put a description of the ROM's contents as well?

Ok so as the other poster said, there is a "Phone Identifier" numbered folder. I know I can't rename that. Then inside that are the different backups I have in folders and the files within them. So are you saying I can't rename THOSE folders too?

You can rename the individual backup folders, just not the phone identifier folder. My paths look like this. /sdcard/nandroid/HT0A****/ (then I have my cm backup folder named CM7, My fresh folder named Fresh and a couple others). The *'s are just place holders, I can't remember the exact name.
You can change any folder names after the HT0A folder. Just no spaces, - or _ work fine though.

how do I delete nandroid backups for an evo 4g?

I delete mine by using a file manager then go to the nandroid folder and delete the old nandroids also I backup ALL my nandroids on my pc then delete them

Go into nandroid folder then into the next folder H something, in that folder will be all your nands named by date. Just delete which ever ones you don't need either via some root explorer app or Pc usb.

I have just recently rooted my intl' S3. I also did a nandroid backup to the phone twice and its taking up quite a bit of space. I have tried to locate the nandroid folder from what you posted and cannot find the nandroid folder. I am using astro folder right now but maybe switching to my file app later if this does not work. thanks in advance!

The folder should be named whatever recovery you are using. If you're using ClockworkMod, it may say 'clockworkmod' or 'cwm'. If you're using TWRP recovery, it should say 'twrp'. The backup files will be in that folder.

Fln is correct, in that it'll be named whatever recovery you're using. Probably cwm, listed under clockworkmod, unless you explicitly changed to twrp. Just make sure you look on the device sdcard for the backups.

I have looked into these folders and found nothing. I have used File manager and Astro File with no luck finding this folder. I went back into the Samsung tool kit to see if it will allow me to delete those files on the phone put no luck there either. thanks again for your assistance.

thanks but I still cannot find the back up. I have used the samsung tool kit to create the nandroid back ups but now I dont know how to find it to delete. in the toolkit it does not provide an option to delete back ups from the phone unless I maybe misunderstanding the option available. i have installed rom manager and there i can create nandroid backups by going into the recovery page. I cannot flash roms because of the space limitations. I want to delete these back ups on the phone and just leave it on the computer so that i can start flashing roms thru rom manager.
I do not have an external SD card because its still in the mail. Thanks for all your help!

I just went into the CWM recovery mode and located the 2 nandroid backups I created but still could not delete any of them. All my file explorers does not have any nandroid folders and the CWM folder is still empty. Am I missing a particular setting that is not allowing me to see the backups?

What file explorer are you using? I prefer es file explorer [free], make sure you set the root settings to r/w, for giggles. It should be listed as internal sd card or sdcard01, probably the prior; I forget what its called on tw. Just verify for clockworkmod folder, and should list your device id, and the backups inside.

You are the MAN teh roxxorz, adjusted the root settings for es file explorer and was able to free up 4gb of space (nandroid BU) Thank you so much! Now I do not have to unroot, do a factory wipe just to delete excess backups!!

TWRP can't recognize backup folder name

My phone is GT-N7105 (Samsung Note 2)

TWRP can't recognize my backup folder name which I am trying to restore

I had a nandroid backup before, then I copied the backup to PC, still have it. Then I flashed lineage 13. I deleted the nandroid backup on the phone storage. Now I want to restore the backup so I copied the backup files from the PC.
Now when I go to TWRP Restore mode, no backups are found.
I already searched through the internet and found the renaming method but there's a problem:
this is my original backup:
TWRP/backups/42f7491d7b409fc7/2017-03-01--05-28-34_JZO54K.N7105XXDMB
I tried to make a new backup of my current lineage (just to see if the folder name changed based on the new folder the backup process will create), here is what the resulting folder was:
TWRP/backups/42f7491d7b409fc7/2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c
As you can see, only the innermost folder name changed. So from what I found through searching, it said to rename the old backup folder to the new backup folder's name, meaning :
I changed
2017-03-01--05-28-34_JZO54K.N7105XXDMB
to
2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c
TWRP still can't see the original backup.
So what should I rename the original backup folder for TWRP to recognize it and make it appear?
EDIT:
I already updated my TWRP but problem still exists.

Create a new backup with your current rom, then remove it and add the old one instead.

Sorry not really a developer type of guy and I regret tinkering with these stuff on my phone.
What you meant was to make a backup with current rom just to get the folder name that TWRP will recognize and then swap the old stock backup into the folder?
If I just rename the stock backup folder name to 2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c it's the same as what you said right?
and it should still run smoothly (stock rom should be restored without errors)?

It's ok, we're all helping each others here. And we all had lots of mistakes and we still do.
Anyways, yes renaming it could do the trick but you don't need to rename the backup name directly. Instead, you need to rename the folder containing the backup.
TWRP path is going to be similar to that
/TWRP/BACKUPS/4d00475b004150de/2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c

All you need to get is that folder name "4d00475b004150de" because it's auto generated by twrp, that's why I asked you to create another backup even if you just backed up your boot file to generate the folder.
Once you did the backup you can then move your old backup to that folder or rename that old similar folder to the newly created one (not the rom backup folder itself).
