stuck on green htc logo with while background - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This morning I tried to flash Blackout ICS Incredible. I am currently stuck on stuck green logo with white backgroud forever. I am using CWM touch recovery. I can not get to cwm, bootloader or Hboot menu. Only way i can reboot is to take out the battery. Once I put the battery in and let it boot, it goes back to logo screen and gets stuck. Then I took out the battery again and put it back it and press power button while pressing down vol- button, and it goes back to same logo screen and stuck. Again if i take out the battery and put it back it, and if I press the power button while pressing down the vol+ button, the phone vibrates 3 times and goes blank(dark) with battery indicator light blinking(i am not sure if that is battery light).
Any help would be appreciate. I am trying to connect to adb or fastboot, but it does not connect to the phone yet.

Pull the battery, wait five minutes.
Press and hold the volume down button, then press the power button. Don't let go. Wait.... wait, should go into recovery.
Full wipe.
Format data/factory reset.
Wipe dalvik
Format all partitions except sd card.
Restore a back up.
Then read how to get that rom working. Been posted too many times as for me to repeat it. Check the thread somewhere below yours, the title of the thread I believe is the same as the rom, answer is there.

Just saw the HBoot screen but lost it. What I did was, took out the battery, sdcard, SIM. Replace the battery but not the cover of the battery. Then I hit power and volume(plus/minus) button, the HBoot menu came up, but because the batter cover was not placed, the menu was lost when I did not hold the phone tight, meaning batter got loose. Now I am trying to get back to HBoot menu again after replace battery and cover but to no avail. I still have sdcard, SIM out of the phone. I think there is some combination of keys you've to press coming out from cold boot vs. not. will keep on trying unless someone already knows.

That is common flashing that rom. Choose full wipe in aroma installer even if you did it manually. When the flash is done, don't choose to reboot with aroma installer...DO IT MANUALLY from recovery!!...that should solve it...:good:
The same happened to me and found that solution in their thread.

I was able to get to HBoot, choose recovery, came up with CWM touch, did the wipe data/app, delvic, cache, did format /data, /* all the mentioned other than /sdcard. Then went to install from sdcard and choose that Blackout rom. went through the installer but at the end chose not to reboot from the installer as suggested. Then came back to CWM touch menu and did the reboot from there. It stuck on that logo screen again for 5 minutes. Now again took out the battery for few minutes, and want to go back to HBoot, but could not. Do I have to take out SDCARD as well, Do not think so but not sure. And why do we have to take out battery for so long, any idea, taking battery out for a minute isn't enough?

5 minutes just in case.
You missed one step. Wipe from aroma as well.

Should work without battery pull as long as you power off. But when it doesn't, battery pull.
Just volume down, the power, both pressed till it turns on.
Oh, and fastboot unchecked
Edit: if it stll doesnt work, could be a bad download.

If that doesn't work this straight booted bricked phone when nothing else would. Took 2 months of searching but I got it working within 5 minutes. It's from a thunderbolt forum but I think the commands are the same except for the img name.http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/480350-easier-way-flash-pg05img-files.htmli was stuck with hboot s-on, no recovery whatsoever, security warning, no sd card, NOTHING.

After monkeying around with this ROM for a day, it was actually problem with CWM recovery. It looks like this ROM is not compatible with this recovery. I replaced cwm with 4ext recovery and voila I was able to flash this new ROM. Thank you guys so much for helping out. This community is really great to be part of.

I had the same problem after unlocking the bootloader on HTCdev. After a lot of searching, it seems that the HTC process keeps the boot partition locked from recovery but not from fastboot.
I was able to get around this by unzipping the Rom and flashing boot.IMG using fastboot and then flashing the Rom again.

[Q] New ROM keeps re-booting

Hi,
I rooted my DHD today and tried to flash the CyanogenMod-7 for Desire HD & Inspire. It seemed to work but now keeps re-booting every couple of seconds. It won't actually stay on long enough to put another ROM on. Can anyone help? This is the first time I've done something like this and it seemed to be going so well!
Thanks!
Pull the battery for about 10 seconds. Then hold the vol- button down and power your device on. Now you should see a white screen with some text on it. Navigate to recovery and press the power button. Now it should boot into recovery.
In the recovery choose wipe data/factory reset ald let it finish. Once its finished choose wipe cache partition.
Then go to install .zip from sd and then choose zip from sd. Now search for your rom and reinstall it
Tapatalked with Tapatalk from my Desire HD using Tapatalk.
This is common. Simply wait for it to boot and power off or use the power button to select reboot. You only have to do it once.
The instructions for installing CM7 all say to install ROM then reboot after first complete start up. Shouldn't need to reinstall anything.
Having been left alone for a few hours it seems to have sorted itself out. Thanks! I just wasn't expecting it to spend quite so long re-booting.
I guess you have enabled wi-fi just after flash cm7. Seems like there is a bug or whatever, all you need is re-boot device after first boot.
And about the re-boot loop, just remove battery to turn off you device then turn it on, enter recovery and flash cm7 again WITHOUT do wipe operation. OK, In this time remember to re-boot after first boot.
I got a bit trigger happy and tried to flash Android Revolution HD 3.3. I did a full wipe from ClockworkMod Recovery and tried to install the zip, exactly like I did for the previous ROM. That kept aborting the installation so I mounted the phone and re-downloaded and copied it onto the SD card again. Same problem. I then tried to re-install cm7 and that also kept aborting.
I now have the message "Back menu button disabled" and if I use the power button to select anything it goes straight to a white triangle with an explanation and the Droid, which I think is stock recovery? I'm getting there from what I think is Clockwork though. Is this recoverable or have I managed to brick it?
I had a similar issue a few days ago - it turned out that the battery stats were screwed up so a fix for me was to boot into recovery and then wiping the battery stats.
Everything was fine after that.
How do I do that? I don't want to reboot out of Clockwork as I'm not 100% sure I actually have a ROM at the moment.
Can boot into menu. Highlight recovery. Press power button. Powers down, not completely though. Screen stays on slightly. When waiting 5 minutes and press power button boots into loop again.

Going to leave battery out for the night as read in other posts. Fixes the problem of not totally shutting down for some. Thanks.
Well leaving battery out didn't help. Continuous boot loop. Put on charger after turning off orange light came on and didn't go to green after 10 hours. Restarted when I got home and boot loop again. Had CoreDroid ROM installed. Working fine than tried to load Kalagas Mixed Theme and that is where I am now. Looping.
Even a blind squirrel will find a nut now and then. During HTC Hboot menu, noticed it was looking for PD98IMG zip. So I shut phone down. Inserted card with it on it and it restored to original firmware. PHEW. Hope this might help someone else.

[Q] Bricked Moto Defy

I have bricked my Motorola Defy.
I have tried flashing a new ROM using RSD Lite (following this guide). It says 'complete' but my phone will not turn on. Sometimes it will just show the Moto boot logo but never fully boot up. I can only open the boot menu.
The ROMs I have tried flashing can be found here (All UK 2.1 at the top of the page).
Background - I got into this mess by attempting to flash the Gingerbread UI ROM (here).
Does anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciated any suggestions.
Thank you.
Probably you have flashed a firmware which cannot be downgraded to eclair. Try to get again in the bootloader and flash a froyo build (the official french one, for instance).
Hope this helps

but supposedly it is still an éclair ROM so it shouldn't be the reason... best thing would be to flash an original 2.1 rom, I'm sure you can find one on the development section. Make sure to have a fully charged battery though - charge it on someone else's phone, for example.
It's most likely a problem with cache. Power your phone with Volume Down holded, when in recovery press Volume Up + Down, clear data/factory reset, clear cache.

Just an update...
All ROMS I have tried have installed OK through RSD Lite. The result is always 'Finished' or 'PASS'. But then when I try to turn my phone on, it never boots up.
I really appreciate the replies so far. If anyone has any further ideas, I would love to hear them.
Thank you.
UPDATE
I have just flashed the latest froyo leaked ROM as suggested around the net. Slight progress, the phone now boots to the moto boot logo but no further?
Does anyone have any ideas from here?
Thank you.
you do know that after flashing an sbf it takes a very LONG time to boot the first time! I just hope you are not giving up after a a couple minutes of M logo and pulling the battery or something it literally takes like 5 minutes.
You said you are still able to enter bootmenu? That is not possible after flashing an sbf, as it wipes the bootmenu away! Are you talking about bootloader?
Pull the battery and immediately put it back in while holding vol down. If the phone does not turn on just by inserting the battery then continue to hold vol down and press the power button for about 3 seconds, do not let go of vol down. Continue holding vol down until stock recovery appears.
Once you're in stock recovery press vol up AND vol down at the SAME TIME. Now use the volume toggle to select wipe date/factory reset, use the power button to make your selection, then wipe cache partition. Reboot
Walk away for like 5-10 minutes and check back on it.. Theres no reason it shouldn't work

Hey,
I have just got back from dropping of the phone with T-Mobile - Damm!!!!!!!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I must have talking about the bootloader. Not the menu. I will head back to the shop in the morning and collect it back off them. Hopefully as it is a Saturday they have not sent it off?
Sooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!
I will update you when I have got it back and tested the above.
Thanks again,
Chris.
LOL I know what you mean... I had instant heart failure the first time I was stuck in a bootloop!!! Thought I wasted $400
I just panicked and gave up.. damm! Loads of people have said that its almost impossible to brick a defy. Fingers crosses thats true!! Lol
First, sorry for my english.
I have a similar problem. I flashed the official french froyo.
First it runs good. But today, two days later, the defy reseted automaticaly.
Several times.
Then I did a wipe. At the end the defy reseted automaticaly and stopped at the motorola logo. I flashed again. At the end of the flash, when RSD boots the defy, it stopped at the logo again. After...it must have been 15 minutes I pulled the battery and tried to get into the bootloader for a wipe.
But I can't enter the bootloader (vol up + power). The motorola logo appears and nothing happens. The last time I waited over 30 minutes.
OK, I have my phone back from T-Mobile...here it goes!!! (fingers crossed).
EDIT
Battery is out - will re-charge with the USB cable trick..

Recovery missing from stock phone?

I have had the One for a few days now and have been having data problems. I wanted to wipe the cache partition in recovery, but I cant get to it.
The phone is 100% stock.
I pwr+vol dn to get to the bootloader, then I select recovery and hit the power button. I get the HTC splash screen, then the screen goes black for 10-20 seconds and the phone reboots. I have tried every button combo I could find while the screen is black, but no luck so far.
From what I have found online, after selecting recovery in bootloader the phone should load a screen with a red triangle, then from there pwr+ vol up takes you to recovery. Even this doesn't work.
I talk to Verizon tech support and a guy in a corporate store and they both said that the One has no recovery.? I don't believe them.
I would really like to know what I'm missing here?

try a factory reset from the bootloader after you back up everything that you can.
The HTC One was showing different odd behaviors with different recoveries on some isolated incidents before.
I have seen a few times that recoveries broke due to some random stuff happening. I have not seen the stock recovery break though. Interesting.
In the cases i have seen, a RUU did always help. Or put differently: re-flashing the recovery helped, no matter how it was done.
Sometimes its even enough if you just put the phone to fastboot mode and do a "fastboot erase cache" in cmd.
If you feel familiar with ADB and fastboot, you can obtain a stock Verizon recovery image here on XDA and flash it, using fastboot (provided you managed to unlock your phone or did the new s-off method).
Maybe first try to fastboot erase cache too.
Then, if you are S-ON and locked, you would need a Verizon RUU, which is not available as far as i know. So that would mean then service if none of the tips here help you. The service centers have the RUU's.... for them its a matter of a few minutes to fix it i guess...

When i first got my One a couple of weeks ago, i tried accessing recovery as well and got the same results. Black screen and seemed to freeze up for about a minute then it would boot into android. This was while i was 100% stock and locked. After s-off and flashing cwm i have no problems getting into recovery.

Mine came the same way, no functional stock recovery...(strange)
After S-Off and unlocking and loading a custom recovery, it hasn't had any Recovery related issues at all.
Getting into recovery on a completely stock device is tricky. I had the same issue. You select recovery from the hboot menu and wait till the screen goes black. I mean, completely off. Then hold the volup + power buttons.
Took me a few tries, but once I figured it out I was able to get in almost always.
ak074 said:
after selecting recovery from the bootloader, wait 40 seconds after the screen goes black. you should then see the red triangle and exclamation mark. you can also just hold vol up and keep tapping the power button. if you do it right, you should see yellow text at the bottom that says "Mount SDCARD failed 1 times" then 2 times, 3 times, 4 times, 5 times. this is what the phone is doing while the screen is black. pressing vol up and power a few times enables this to be shown. when that's done, you will see the triangle as you are used to seeing. hope this helps! hit the thanks button if it does :good:[/
After I did the volume up and the power button some tiny text came up on the screen (green) and went thru the routine you described and a green triangle came up and written underneath it said ANDROID RECOVERY or something like that. The text was so small I had to use a magnifying glass to read it. While in that recovery you have the option to wipe the cache partition, apply from sd card, apply from phone storage, apply from cache and wipe data / factory reset. So evidently this phone's recovery is wierd. HTC probably didn't expect anyone but developers to use it.

Is my M8 bricked?

Ok folks, normally I figure these things out but this one has me a bit concerned.
I was in ViperROM HUB and installed a font package, it needed to restart in recovery to install, so I allowed it. I turned to my computer and when I next looked at my phone the screen is off and refuses to come on. When depress the power button I get a vibration feedback but the screen won't come on. I tried VOL DOWN and POWER but nothing is happening. Im gonna let the battery run dead and see if that will resolve it.
Has anyone encountered anything like this before?

Hey!
I dont think its bricked.
Ghost helped me out with my problem, see below solution.
Try holding POWER + VOLUME UP for 20 seconds and it should restart.
However my case was different I was stuck in HTC logo screen and no way to restart.
On the M8 it is Power and Vol Up to perform a "battery pull".

Put the usb cable in then press vol up and power until it restarts. As soon as you hear the ding on your pc press and hold vol down and power, you should then boot into hboot MENU.

never seem to hear a 'ding' or any other sound but no matter how I time it - power/vol up then power/vol down still results in htc splash then just black. Phone was quite warm (not quite hot) when I went to bed last night and this morning battery was at "0". When I first plugged it in and pushed the power button it alternated from the battery charging display to the TWRP locked screen but I couldn't seem to get it to stay on the TWRP screen no matter what I did. Now that I've used power/vol up I don't seem to get the battery or TWRP. just black or when trying power/vol up I get the splash. Power/vol down gives nothing - just black
EDIT: Just tried - let battery go dead. Plug in to computer hold power/vol down. Screen goes from battery icon to blank and back to battery icon.
EDIT: Pulled and reformatted sd card in Evo 4g LTE. Retried fastboot command still just shows "waiting for device". Even tried adb reboot bootloader and reply "device not found"
Could I use adb to reflash ruu? If so would the command be adb flash (filename)
Was beginning to lose hope of ever fixing this but a HUGE shout out to Simer03 who provided the critical piece of information - namely - add a ROM zip to your sd card. Hope nobody else ever has this problem but just in case
Post #4 here
Nothing is going to work unless you can either enter the boot loader or boot into the os.
You should still be able to access hboot unless that is corrupt. At the very least you need to hear the ding on your pc so you know the pc has recognized your device is connected.
Try again with vol up and power, hold until it reboots you should then hear that ding. If not check you have the necessary usb drivers installed on your pc or try a different usb cable.

[solved]I might have messed up somewhere Stock Recovery

So I downloaded the Stock Recovery from Mr Hofs Collection of Stock Recovery thread in General Section.
I flashed stock recovery, all went well. I attach picture of command prompt to show.
After I flashed it though and went to recovery it just gave me a black screen with a little phone in the middle, in the middle of the little phone was a red triangle with an upside exclamation mark. It was stuck like that for the better part of half an hour(pressed volume down with power, held power alone for minutes on end) nothing. No writing on it nothing.
Luckly as I was busy starting this thread now it just rebooted on its own and went back into the system. Is it totally fixed now or will it give me problems when I go into recovery? Should I go into recovery again?
How do I check if stock recovery is fine now or if there are any problems? I don't want it to hang and/or brick now.
Please if I made a mistake somewhere, tell me what I did wrong for future reference, I don't think I did anything wrong with commands
You can see at bottom of command prompt to, I even tried fastboot devices / adb devices to see if it picks anything up because I get the sound the computer makes when it's connected to USB so the computer at least picked up something.
Should I sell the phone now? lol
Boot again into recovery using the method you described. Once you see the android with red triangle image press and hold the volume up key and then press the power button while keeping the up button pressed. You'll enter the stock recovery.
This is the normal way of booting into stock recovery. You are fine!

I tried going back into recovery, got to the screen with the triangle and and pressed volume up and power button like you said. Instead of then taking me into stock recovery, it just vibrates and then reboots the phone.

hmm...i am running TWRP on GPE so i am not able to test this directly. Let's try one more time, but this time follow these steps:
- go back to recovery and wait for the red triangle screen
- wait for 5 - 10 seconds (don't think this is necessary, but try it anyways)
- this time press both volume up and down keys, and while holding them down press the power button
hopefully this will work. Otherwise i can try on a friends phone in the morning and give you the right combo.

Same thing, just vibrates and then reboots
What are you hoping for? You have stock recovery installed now. You seem to have discovered why there are custom ones.

With no recovery options, is that right though? It doesn't show me anything written on the screen and when I press "up volume and power" this should take you to some options, it gives nothing, it just reboots.
Not right then? Or will it still work fine just as it is now for OTAs?
P.S I have tried all methods given by umsheikh, I downloaded quickboot to try it, I did an adb reboot recovery to see if I can go through there, did it manually, shut off, wait a bit, turn back on go to recovery press power, wait 10secs press up and power, nothing, all of them just reboots the phone. It's bugging me lol
If you say it's right though and there is no need for me to actually see the options that it gives and I'll still receive my OTAs etc then fine, I'll leave it then, but I don't think it's right, is it?
Getting into the options is fiddly, but it sounds right. Try fastboot erase cache
