Re-install the drivers. If that doesn't work, make sure REBOOT your pc after installing them.
There is a good possiblity that you have the drivers installed but the pop-up simply isn't showing up which says "view files, sync blah and blah, etc."
Go to my computer and look at your media devices. If you see the SPH device, it means your PC has recognized your device and the proper drivers are installed. Simply double click on the SPH icon and your internal and external SD cards should pop up.

anyway
uninstall the drivers completely.
reboot the pc
go to samsung and download the drivers again
once they are downloaded disconnect your pc from the internet
installed the drivers again
you should be good to go now.

USB detection when connected to computer not working!(*POSSIBLY FIXED*)

- I think I found a fix and it was quite easy to be honest. All I did was reinstall HTC SYNC and my computer is recognizing my phone now. Only thing is, i'm pretty sure if you want to use adb you had to uninstall this.
- Another solution is to update the RADIO on your phone to the newest version. (CREDIT GOES TO HAZAKINS FOR FINDING THIS)
I successfully rooted 2.2 today with the new guide. The first rom I flashed was RevE and noticed that when I plugged in my usb, to my computer, the notification bar would show up with the option of mounting or charging and then disappear after a second. Not only that, the phone didn't charge at all while connected and the notification bar was clear and didn't tell me whether I was charging only, ect even though it usually does.
The only way I am able to access my SD card is strictly through recovery now by mounting the usb. Other than that, there is no other way for me to access my SD card. Let me be clear that YES I have tried more than one USB port and usb cable but still there has been no luck. Let me also add that it was working fine before rooting.
Also, I just flashed to CM R2 successfully and the same issue still exists. I'm not really sure what else to do.
One interesting thing, if this means anything, that I found, was that I saw the My HTC drivers in device manager only when I accessed my SD card through recovery, it never appeared when I tried to connect my phone to my computer outside of recovery.
So, I'm not really sure what else to do. I have rebooted both my phone and my computer and I am really leaning towards the fact that it may have to do with the My HTC drivers. The thing is though, add or remove programs doesn't show My HTC when my phone is connected to the homescreen. But, I did manage to uninstall it while in recovery mode and as soon as I went back to the homescreen the driver installed so fast that I couldn't stop it from installing.
So, I have no idea what to do
I just confirmed that I am not the only one with this issue in IRC. We both narrowed it down to the driver being the issue. I'm not sure how exactly I can delete it though because it only shows up for an instant and then disappears. It isn't even in add or remove programs.
When you connect your phone, try toggling the USB Debugging off and then back on. I had similar problem (not exactly the same) and this is what worked for me.

I actually had this exact same problem... all the way up until I tried a different usb port... so I guess I got lucky.
But the one port was working fine up until I put the new ROM on it. Then it stopped working. Then I had to use a different port. I was able to do that... But now after phone reboot and PC reboot, 1st usb port works fine.
I hope it starts working for you.
I did same thing having same problem, I even downloaded another rom with rom manager and installed it, still same problem. When I plug in my USB cord it will pop up for a second on the phone to ask my charge or drive the goes away before i can do anything.

OK Here is the fix, buy a mini sdcard reader copy the pc36img file to your sdcard using this reader, install back in phone boot into recovery and let it update, then startover root process, this worked for me, I haven't update to 2.2 yet, but I got usb back

I did that, twice, and the same issue is occurring.
Also having the same problem after the 2.2 down grade.
Same problem
I can't mount my SDcard either. I followed the new video tutorial to get root on phones that came with 2.2. I think something went wrong when i got that out of memory write error. I have tried two different computers and all their usb spots. I have not been able to mount sd card yet. It does charge however. Any ideas as what to do?? Oddly enough i was able to get Amon-ra recovery flashed so doesn't that mean i have full root??
Seems like a good amount of people are having this issue. If someone comes across a fix please share!!!
Try uninstalling My HTC and HTC Installer Drivers (I forgot the exact name) and then reinstalling HTC SYNC.
Got mine to work
on some other forum someone tried flashing the radios to the newest version and fixed the problem. I tried this as well and came back here to let you guys know that it worked for me also.

This should reinstall the driver for your EVO.

[Q] What Is CDC Abstract Control Module?

I am trying to re-root my Epic after flashing to stock so I could take it into Sprint for repair. I plug it into my netbook running Windows 7 64bit and everything seems to install fine except this thing called "CDC Abstract Control Module ACM". It seems to find the drivers fine and even gets to the place where it says "Installing Driver Software", but then it hangs forever. I tried just running the CWM One click root, but it says "Phone not connected".
Anyone know what this CDC is and how to make it install? I have tried a few times doing system restore back to before I installed the Samsung drivers, then started over from scratch. But, nothing seems to work.

mine hung on that too... wish I still had an old copy of the drivers, I swear they changed. Either that, or one other thing is that when I did the same as you about a month ago, I hadnt installed the Android SDK yet... come to think of it, idunno why, I THINK we still need it, but maybe not. Whenever I get issues with drivers installing, I uninstall them, reboot PC, reinstall, reboot PC, plug in epic, let it install drivers till it hangs, then quickly pull out then re-insert the USB in the phone and it sometimes will trip it up and complete the install. Also, now that I think of it, I was having issues installing drivers with the epic running a GB leak, as soon as I Odined to EC05 (using a different PC) they seemed to install fine. Hmmm... just reread your post, coffee THEN post, thats a good tip, anyways, maybe try the different ports on the PC, etc... I think the drivers are the biggest ***** of the whole process... everything else works pretty easily.
Weird I had the same problem I just unplugged my phone restarted my computer and phone and when I plugged it in I had not problems....try restarting both...also what method are u using to root??? And are u on EC05???

Galaxy S3 Will Not Connect To Windows Computer

I am trying to connect my galaxy s3 to my windows computer and it will not install the drivers. Has anyone experienced this yet. I am rooted and running cm9 nightly. I also have a custom kernel installed. This was working when i rooted a couple of weeks ago. When I plug my phone into the usb it searches for drivers and display an error message that say it was unsuccessful at installing drivers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling kies? I got a pop up on my phone when i plugged it in last time and it said it couldnt find the software but yet i was able to connect to kies and go into phone through windows.

I experienced a similar issue, it may have to do with the fact that I didn't wipe cache partition and wiped dalvik cache when installing zip from sd card etc... I don't know what caused it, but nothing I could do (including re-installing drivers a couple of times from KIES and tying it on a different laptop etc.) would fix it until I did a wipe data/factory reset by mistake! (instead of wiping catche partition) ;<( and that seemed to do the job!
Perhaps you may want to try doing a "wipe catche partition" and "Wipe Dalvik Cache" from CWM before tying to go ahead a do a "wipe data/factory reset"?

have the same problem
I did have that 'hardware ID missing' error suddenly after i was connecting my phone to my laptop just fine. my desktop has no problem. i did a few things that seemed to have fixed it or steps for a solution. I downloaded the TMO Samsung drivers. if you already have it installed, try uninstalling it. If that doesn't work, toggle USB debugging in between connecting and disconnecting from the computer. Other times, toggling USB debugging wouldn't work, so i toggled in between MTP and PTP. i play with a few times til it work. hope that helps. i can't post the link the the drivers yet, but get it from samsung's website.
i'm on gsm r6 and trinity kernel
Since I've gotten the phone I've had to keis air everything. Hardware I'd missing error on every PC/laptop I owned.
Up until yesterday. Plugged it in and keis opened. Connection troubleshooting joppy. It redownloaded and installed drivers. Like if always has...but this time it actually worked and so does my mtp now.
I wonder if its ROM related. Before I was using stock with the problem. The aokp unofficial r6 with the problem.
But now I'm running the official aokp jellybean release and it works.

From my experiences it only ever occurs when Kies is running, even in the background, while usb debugging is enabled. If kies isnt running then its all good.
I ran into this using CM9; seems to me that Samsung is using MTP protocol's now instead of USB. I just use Driod Explorer with debugging and I can move files without any issues.
If you are wanting to just transfer files to/from computer try SwiFTP. I love this little program.

From talking to Samsung Advanced Technical Help, I learned that, although it is never mentioned on any site or any literature, if you have
Samsung Studio 3 and/or Samsung New Studio and the USB drivers, uninstall ALL. I use Revo Uninstaller. Then reinstall the USB drivers from Samsung site. Make sure WiFi and Bluetooth are turned off,on the phone, and connect the phone. Should work.

PC data transfer issues

I have upgraded to an S3 from having a Vibrant for years. I rooted and flashed several OS's to my Vibrant in those years without an issue ever. I have been trying to get files transferred to my S3 from my computer for 2 weeks now. The computer has the drivers installed correctly. It is recognized by name when I plug it in (it comes up as SGH-T999, Kies will recognize it too). whenever i try to transfer ANYTHING it stops in the middle of the transfer. just sits there with no further progress to be achieved. This is insanely frustrating. I am unable to root this thing because of the inability to actually transfer.
Things I have tried:
Uninstalling/reinstalling Kies multiple times
Uninstalling all USB device drivers multiple times
Reinstalling drivers through Kies and through Samsung's website multiple times
Factory reset on the phone multiple times (****ing aggravating btw)
Using my old Vibrant cable
Changing between MTP and camera mode... several times
Yelling at it
I have been trying to research how to fix this garbage for weeks now. there is no concrete way to remedy this problem that i have found. every thread about this is littered with the usual "uninstall your driver and reinstall it" nonsense that is the most generic response to anything tech related ever.
What I can tell you is that my phone is definitely getting recognized by anything that can do so. Odin, Kies, My computer, etc etc... it appears that the issue lies in the actual data transfer. As I mentioned, transfers initiate but will lock up mid-process and just hang there infinitely. Same goes with Odin when I try to get it to flash into CWM recovery.
Please, help. any time spent trying to fix this issue is greatly appreciated.
Are you uding the usb cable thst came with the phone?
Have you tried different cables? Or on another computer?
Im guessing your not rooted then?
Try installing the drivers ONLY. get them here:

Uninstall previous versions of everything first.
What version odin are you using? Use 3.07 from above post if you're not already.
Also try this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
If you are rooted try SwiFTP or another wireless transfer app.

Since you've tried everything else might as well follow this guide and install the drivers through the toolkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28175575
I'd also run windows update and check if there's a new bios/drivers for your mobo and usb controller.
If you plug another "foreign" usb device does it install fine?
May not have any bearing whatsoever here but do you have usb debugging checked? And I think I mentioned it in the other post but try a different computer if possible.
You said that this happens when using odin too? As in you start the flash with Odin but it doesn't complete? Or it wont even start? Does it give you any message?
When plugged in in download mode, does Odin show your COM port in the upper left?
Plug in the phone and open device manager. Does it show any errors or anything?

I recommend an app called airdroid. I had issues transferring stuff to and from my Mac and haven't had any problems since I started using the program. Besides it's wireless so I don't have to worry about the wires being a problem

everything else works fine from my 6 USB ports (2 USB 3.0 ports as well). The tool kit solution still needs Odin to root. The problem is not detecting the device. it is the transferring of data. Data transfers begin but that's about it. Odin gets to "firmware update start" and then "boot.img" and just hangs there forever. no change. nothing else.
Is there a wireless way to do this? I have purchased Rom Manager but since i can't achieve root it is just useless now. The phone is brand new from the Tmobile store. Not once has it been dropped (to put into perspective how careful i am with my devices, I managed to drop my Vibrant once in ~3 years, which caused no damage, what a great phone that was). I have not been able to read about this same issue anywhere else either...generally its an issue with the PC not recognizing the device but when someone gets it to link up correctly, it works. this is the opposite.
thank you for your ideas so far.

Odin shows the "0:COM" like it should, which means it is able to read that the device is there, it just is unable to do anything after "boot.img", everything that is needed for this to work via the toolkit method is checked (USB debug and unknown sources).
I just got the s3 and had transfer issues too. Turns out my s2 drivers wasn't perfect for it even though it recognizes the device. I used the s3 drivers instead and that helped things a bit with accessing my phone's storage. So i ended up formatting my internal storage and that seems to do the trick for me.
If that doesn't work and odin still gets stuck then try different usb ports also try different wires

Did you do that through terminal? doesn't the single partition mean that it would wipe everything?
Make sure the drivers you are using are the same ones that are in my comment (version).
What are you trying to flash through Odin? If the permissions of the files inside the tar file are not correct, the transfer will hang, and do nothing but give a timeout message after a couple minutes. I learned this the hard way.
In summary:
Use a different USB cable.
Download drivers, Odin, and CWM from my signature. After uninstalling the old drivers manually through devman (be sure to delete them during uninstall), reinstall them from the package you downloaded. Then use Odin to flash CWM. All three of these packages are tested and known to be 100% working. Please don't ignore this step. If I can't verify the validity of your installation sources, I can't rule this out for troubleshooting purposes.
If this doesn't work, it is most likely your computer. Are there any BIOS firmware updates that improve USB compatibility, or USB controller driver updates? The USB 3.0 isn't natively supported on =< Win7, so those are third party drivers. But I will assume you are connected to a USB 2.0 port.

Try in safe mode? This sounds really frustrating. I gave up when this happened with my mac. I think someone said it already but I always recommend Airdroid. It's just simpler.

I didn't do it through terminal. I just connect it to the computer. Right click phone's internal storage and clicked format. It was a very quick format.

so let me get this straight... you plugged the phone in, right clicked on it in a browser window, clicked on format, selected yes to the "hey, this is going to erase everything on the device" warning pop up, and you were able to transfer files no problem after that? no adverse side effects came from this? it sounds like it would brick the phone...

Yep that's what i did. That's only the storage partition. There's a system partition that isn't viewable on window explorer

I had these frustrations as well. I finally move where I was connecting the cables. First instinct was the easiest access on my computer. It always failed. I finally decided to try my back usb and it worked it also picked up as a mass storage as well.

Yeah I'm starting to think you might need to use a different computer. Odin detects so it's not drivers.
From my experience with the hangs when i was on the s2. Many also reported this but what helped was different usb ports, wires, or an entirely different computer.

[Q] MTP Driver Install Fail

Hi all,
Got my new S III on Jan. 1. Love it. Gave me an opportunity to use my old Cappy to experiment with. Flashed a couple of ROMS already and really love it. OK..so here's the problem. The only thing I have done with the S III is root it using the QCOM Toolkit. When I downloaded the drivers and plugged in phone it said that if a device number was showing that all drivers had installed. Don't really know if the MTP driver loaded at that time or not...but the device number was there and I proceeded to root the phone. Now when I try to connect to PC I get the dreaded MTP driver failed error message. Did a TON of research on this and tried EVERYTHING...still no joy. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and even tried using my XP Pro machine...still no joy. Would love to flash a ROM on the new S III but no way to copy to SD card without PC connection.
Phone is A T&T SGH-1747 4.04 Version.
OK to reduce the number of "have you tried's" I have: tried various cables, uninstall reinstall Kies..Kies driver repair, uninstalled/reinstalled all Samsung drivers. Tried the MTP/PTP toggle idea. Plugged in with USB debugging ON and OFF. Sooooo tired of getting the MTP USB Device Driver failed message!!!
Any new ideas out there?

Thanks Moe. Yeah I was afraid of that. Just got all my apps restored. Oh well. Well worth it if it works. Thanks again!
Factory reset is the only option that worked for me, and I tried everything you listed above. Also, based on prior posts, I plugged it into my computer before I signed into my google accounts.

Right SJ...I had heard that also. I really hope it works because if I do a factory reset and lose all my apps and data and it doesn't work...I am gonna lose it! LOL!
